We were fortunate to have been given a voucher from some colleagues so this was our first visit but not the last. Lovely and attentive staff who were wonderful. The food oh my the food was delicious and so tasty, we left feeling so full and had a wonderful evening. Thank you team Augustus

Lovely ambience. Revisited the place recently after 6 years to celebrate a friend birthday.

Really excellent food, beautifully executed and presented. Service was perfect and the timings of the courses ideal: not too long to wait, not too short. Lovely atmosphere, good amount of space between tables. We went for a birthday treat, definitely worth it and will be going again.

My partner and I have been here so many times and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. Today was absolutely amazing, I can only say , if you've not yet been , go you'll love it . Thanks to Cedric, Richard, Peter and all the team .

Another great Lunch at Augustus. I was "forced" to go and have lunch at Augustus by my good lady wife. What a "chore" and glad I was forced. Starting with an aperitif of Kir Royal which was followed by scallops. I have never experienced a better scallop than those cooked at Augustus even from 1* and 2 * Michelin restaurants. We then had the venison and duck as the main course accompanied by a bottle of Gaillac. The meal was just perfectly cooked. I was provided with a sharp knife for my venison which was a bit of an overkillas the venison was so cooked perfectly that it could have been cut with a fork!!! Likewise the duck was cooked perfectly - my good lady let me have a taste. Needless to say we were both in 7th heaven. The flavours were well balanced with the accompanying vegetables. This was followed by the rhubarb tart and steamed pudding. Both totally delicious. Cedric and Richard, thankyou you, once again you have provided a wonderful repas and a thank you to your attentive staff. Thank you. We will have to return to make sure you keep the same high standards. :) :) :) Ladies there is a saying "marry a good cook, kissing doesn't last but cooking does" hence the title of this review. :) :) :) Husbands do not worry. We had a lovely time. Atmosphere was great and the staff were very attentive. We had the sample fixed 3 course menu which was a great portion of food. All courses were AMAZING and were great value for money. We’d definitely go back.

An absolute gem of a restaurant, every dish we had was delicious. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the service was spot on. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food served.

I've eaten here 4 or 5 times now with a couple of those as Christmas meals. The food is always superb and the service is attentive but not intrusive. Happy with the prices and happily recommend it to people.

The whole experience was grand. Extremely polite staff, amazing atmosphere. Food was out of this world and they use locally sourced ingredients for all their food. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to experience fine dining at a very reasonable cost.

We love the fact that you can get amazing quality food in a relaxed "Bistro Style" setting, the service is excellent but not pretentious. The food and wine is special but at very reasonable prices - the set price menu offers particularly good value and an added bonus is that you can mix and match with the A La Carte. I love the fact that you are served a little bowl of home made roasted seeds to nibble whilst making your choices - they are delicious. Plus you always get a warm bread roll with butter. None of this "sourdough and olive oil" offered and then charged at a ridiculous cost! On this occasion we had Morteau Sausage, Pumpkin soup, John Dory, Pork Steak and I could not resist adding a Floating Island for desert. A lovely bottle of Montepuiciano complimented our meal and the Espresso coffee is excellent. Every dish is expertly crafted, however, if you find yourself undecided you will not be disappointed with the fish option - I have had some wonderful fish here - all, as expected perfectly cooked. We hope to be back before the Christmas rush.

Not been here for a while, but was not disappointed. The standard of service, and food is really excellent. The vegan risotto blew my mind! Remains the best place in Taunton by far. Love it. Thanks.

Yet again an awesome meal, excellent service and real quality food with really pleasant surroundings. Lamb is to die for as are the scallop starters and as for the cheese board, needs to seen to be believed. Please keep up the good work everyone.

An absolute gem. Delicious food at a very reasonable price for what you get. The service is great, very welcoming and attentive. Good wine list. We were passing through Taunton and couldn’t believe our luck finding this place. It’s in the Michelin guide for a reason! Would thoroughly recommend, great for any occasion.

After a couple of attempt's to book a table at Augustus we finally made our first visit last Friday. The welcome was warm and the staff are attentive but certainly not intrusive. The menu is seasonal and from what I could gather changes subject to what is freshly available from their suppliers. The Scallops were delicious and the main course of Pigeon was cooked to perfection although we could have chosen any of the starters or mains as they all appeared to be equally good. The wine list is comprehensive but caters for a cross section of budgets and advice is available to help you choose. On refection this restaurant is not playing games, it is outstanding and is the best in Taunton. It could be pretentious but it definitely is not, the proprietors appear to know their market and provide what the Town needs. If you cannot get a booking persevere it is hugely worth anyone's efforts to experience this restaurant. We will definitely be back.

Excellent Food Very French based Well Cooked and very Tasty We all 3 of us had the Steak, with Butter herb sauce,which was very tender, juicy and delicious with Fries , cress and onions and roasted peppers for £34 each. Birthday treat for Daughter and friends. My only comment is the menu is very select and options small in number, and if fish is not your thing,options are very small.

We have been to Augustus a few times but have never taken the time to review it before now. This is a reliable restaurant, that can be trusted to deliver for any special occasion such as birthdays or, as in this case, a wedding anniversary. You don’t want to take any chances with a special celebration. Over the years I have had my fair share of going to a well-reviewed restaurants midweek only to find good food but no ambiance or patchy service. Nothing of the kind here. The food is excellent to outstanding every time and even on a Tuesday night Augustus was full and buzzing. Service is friendly but professional and attentive. I started with Steak Tartare which is so good I find it difficult to choose anything else although on this occasion I was momentarily tempted by the Devilled Chicken Livers. My wife had a Cheese Souffle followed by Lemon Sole [which by request they took off the bone in the kitchen] both of which she really enjoyed while I followed the Tartare with Venison which was fantastic! On this visit we managed desserts for the first time. A really good Fig Clafoutis with delicious ice cream for me and a sort of Lemon Meringue Eaton Mess although not referred to as such on the menu. Starters and my dessert were from the main menu while the other dishes we chose from the fixed menu of the day. Augustus are quite happy for you to do this. I drank all but one glass of the carafe of Montepulciano as I wasn’t the one driving! No pictures of the food with this review as I have always found it a bit odd that someone’s first instinct is to take out their phone to photograph their food when it arrives. I would much rather just eat and enjoy the food which is after all what we were there to do! A full restaurant on a week night says a lot about not only the quality but the value you can expect from Augustus .For the consistent high standard of cooking its fixed menu is superb at £38 and the a la carte isn’t far behind. I was brought up with the idea of buy cheap buy twice so personally I would rather come here and make it special than go a couple of times to a lesser establishment! You can relax at Augustus knowing that whatever the occasion your in good hands.

Very well received, we came with my mother and we really appreciated the welcome and the cuisine, they offer vegetarian dishes!

We were late walk-ins but they managed to find us a table. The food, service and ambiance were fantastic. The Dover sole was so good we booked for the following evening. We had ceviche, lamb and turbot the next evening and all were excellent. We would definitely go out of our way to book this restaurant the next time we are anywhere near Taunton

Absolutely beautiful place. Food was amazing 5 stars doesn’t do it justice. Extremely accommodating with food intolerances too. Vibe was amazing, staff were also 10/10 can’t fault a thing. Will be back soon!

Fantastic from start to finish. Excellent food and outstanding service. We loved the courtyard setting which makes you feel you’re tucked away in peace to enjoy the moment. We’ll be back for sure.

Taken here for lunch, ate off the set lunch menu, anchovy salad starter and the pork chop with nduja sauce were both excellent. Our friends had the spaghetti dish followed by the lemon sole with curried butter sauce also both excellent.

Another excellent lunch Had 4 courses of great food and service was as good as ever. We will be returning. Just need 13 letter more to complete review 😜

Delicious lunch with excellent service. Sat in dining courtyard in lovely weather. Huge selection of French wines but we chose one of the English wines.

We have travelled for two weeks in Normandy then Penzance to the Scilly isles and no where on our travels have we eaten better food which is high praise!!

Written many reviews of this restaurant. My core message is the value. It's Outstanding!!!. As example of this is > Here in my home town of Plymouth a similarly rate restaurant charging is charging £28 for Gurnard(cheap fish) £6 asparagus & £6 potatoes sides, £6 for a basket of bread. Here for £32 I had Turbot served with 6 asparagus spears, galette potatoe & bread (Probably the most expensive fish you can buy) I doubt anywhere else offers such value in the UK

This is such a lovely restaurant. Attentive service and delicious food. Relaxed atmosphere and we enjoyed every aspect of our visit. We would highly recommend it.

We were researching for somewhere to take old friends and booked an early lunch at 12 - glad we did as by 1.30 it was heaving. We had the duck and pigeon and have to say it was one of the best meals we've ever tasted. Excellent service too. Not a beautiful setting and Taunton is not as smart is it used to be, but we'll definitely return

WOW, WOW and WOW again! What an excellent restaurant. Took some friends who are fine diners in some of the best places in London and found this more than on par. In fact the gent with us though the cheese soufflé was the best he had ever tasted, better than some of the Michelin star restaurants he visits. As always. food, service and especially the cheese board, which is exceptional, out of this world and never alters, it is a pleasure to go there as you never have a bad meal

Fabulous dinner last night with a really lovely Galician wine, THE best lemon sole either of us has had in quite some time.

Went after our wedding, Absolutely wonderful food and ambience. The only reason I knocked a star off for food was lack of choice for vegetarian/ vegan. We all would have liked to see a larger choice generally.

An absolutely divine evening! We were greated with a warm welcome at the door and promptly seated. The service was quick, and efficient but we did not at all feel rushed. The Turbot was sublime and the steak was the best had in a very long time. Desserts were heavenly and the bill was a pleasant surprise!! Definitely worth the money and will be back again soon x

We booked an early mothers day lunch attended by all the family. We were both warmly welcomed by the front of house team. We were given the choice of menus fixed price and a la cart or even a pick and mix from either. Both menus had some some great selections and needless to say we all made our various selections from both menus. We all enjoyed the starters, main course and chocolate puddings. All of which were perfect in every way, delicious to tatse and clean plates. A superb restaurant for those that know it and for those looking for something fesh I can only say you will not be disappointed. It is always best to book in advance if you want to secure a table. Give it a try if you enjoy good food. Thank you to the Augustus team for looking after us very well and to the chef and kitchen staff for a superb culinary experience to enjoy.

This is a lovely place to eat, staff and service were great.

It was our 16th Wedding Anniversary. Cedric and Richard planned and delivered our amazing wedding breakfast whilst at the Castle Hotel all those years ago. We had the penthouse for a whole 24 hours. Wow, the food by Richard was 5* and the wine selected by Cedric was perfect. The food, wine and service at Augustus was amazing. Very welcoming, the waiting staff were lovely young men. Kind, attentive and well trained. They certainly knew their stuff! Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you all xx

I eat here for lunch with my family. Had scallops, beef tartare Sirloin steak, sole & monkfish all were great. After a break we finished off with cheese, chocolate & treacle tart. The atmosphere and service are great. The Value for money is second to none. I drive 160 miles to eat here !!!

went this place for the good reviews and left astonishing, good and quality service and the food was amazing.

The food was very average, the rack of lamb was completely undercooked the fat was like jelly, also it would have been nice to have been asked for my preference of their cooking. The partridge was tough, tasteless and very bloody, I don’t mind pink but bordering on raw no thank you. The sides were completely underwhelming. The service, two of the waiters actually seemed to care but the one who wore glasses gave an air of total boredom and I felt that if we didn’t enjoy our meal there were plenty more who want to book so if we didn’t return it was no hard ship to him. Very short sighted as people will run out of patience especially as the prices are very high. Scollops to start £15 for 3 of medium size, £32 for 3 undercooked flabby lamb chops I could go on but my birthday treat was sadly completely a waste of money.

Wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. The food is excellent and staff very attentive to guests. We were given delicious fresh hot crusty rolls with butter while awaiting our meals which were cooked perfectly. The salad with the starter was delicious, coated with what must be a restaurant prepared dressing and with the main meal the vegetables on the plate were particularly vibrant which makes the meal look extremely inviting even before you have tasted anything. Without requesting, the water jug was replenished as soon as it started to empty. Once a glass was empty and we had said we’re not ordering a second drink, it was discretely removed from the table. Just the small things that make a big difference to the dining experience. Even a small pot of sweetened roasted seeds to nibble while we waited. A lovely dining experience and we plan to go again.

Fabulous as always. We love Augustus. Everything is exemplary, we can never fault the food or the service or the atmosphere. Just perfect.

A truly wonderful experience. They adapted their menu for me, which is rare these days. I miss out on a lot of occasions with family and friends because of my dietary requirements, but they couldn't have been more helpful. The food was delicious! Really delicious food, and good service. It is pricier than most places we go but worth the extra for a memorable meal. The steaks were first rate, but expensive, but they are very generously sized. If you're after one, think carefully about the need for a starter. The pattisserie for pudding was exceptional.

An excellent meal with great service. Top quality cooking with quality ingredients. Superbly presented food, including a delicious raclette bake with perfect salad accompaniment followed by a brilliant beef short rib. The cheese selection of English cheeses is remarkable and the best I have seen in any restaurant. A great night.

Booked on a whim and glad we did. We were both warmly welcomed by the front of house team. We were provided with a choice of tables. We decided to sit in the corner with the sun beaming in. :) We were given a choice of menus fixed price and a la cart. Both menus were really appetising but we both ended up a la cart. We both had scallops to start with which were perfectly cooked followed by the Veal which was succulent and melted in the mouth. This was accompanied by a nicely chilled Muscadet. The whole meal was topped off with a gorgeous Tart Tatin. Throughout the meal we were well looked after by the team. A gem of a restaurant for those that know it and for those looking for something fesh I can only say give it a try you have nothing to lose. Thank you to the Augustus team for looking after us very well and to the chef and kitchen staff for making this a culinary experience to enjoy.

Myself and my partner managed to get a short notice booking the day of Taunton carnival. Staff really accomodating, and venue beautifully tucked away in the centre of town. Food amazing quality and certainly not something you'd see on an everyday menu. Two starters, two mains and an alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink came to less than £100... mind you we both probably had the most expensive dishes on the menu so really good value! We would definitely recommend the steak tartar, not only delicious but a really good portion size too! Will definitely visit again, and hopefully when neither of us are driving so we can both sample the amazing wine and port menu

A gem of a place.. been multiple times for lunch, dinner, special occasions, dinner with friends. Always reliable. Welcoming, attentive (but not suffocating) service, some of the best food we've had anywhere, reasonably priced for what is exceptional cooking and ingredients. Best cheese board ever!

This is an excellent place to dine out. Went for my wife's surprise Birthday and they could not have been more attentative and accomodating for us. The food was excellent and the value is second to none. Cannot speak highly enough of the staff, thank you.

From the moment you book you know it’s going to be good - the booking experience is extremely welcoming. And then you arrive on the night, nothing is too much trouble, the approach is always positive, the service superb and then the food arrives !!!! The flavours are phenomenal, just out of this world, I don’t know if the want a Michelin star but it’s a restaurant that truly deserves one. Thankyou Ps and priced reasonably in todays world !

We tend to visit Taunton at least twice a year and this is the best restaurant in town. Fish is our thing so we enjoy good food cooked by Richard and looked after by Cedric, Maitre D
