What a shame that they do a lovely breakfast but charge £2.25 for a slice of toast We had two breakfasts x 2 toasts a coffee and tea for £27.75 Surely toast at least one slice should be offered with a breakfast For us pensioners (just pensioners) it's an expense we will just be having a coffee or tea in future Lovely staff and meeting point but totally out of order with the toast prices Opening at 9:30 is also late for us diabetics whom need to eat and don't want two breakfast and also after the school drop off not ideal as we were waiting about for it to open Please take these as positive comments but the service is not the same and their appears to be very short staffed in The kitchen area

This is the second occasions we have eaten here, at Ullesthorpe. First time we had a breakfast which was extremely oily, wouldn't have it again. This time 27.09.24, as we thought we'd give it another try, we all order ham, egg and chips, the eggs were covered in a disgusting tasting oil, which unfortunately was on most of the ham. Since the evening time I, and the others in my family have all sickness, upset stomach etc.. No way, worth having sickness from eating here, especially at the price of over £11 person per dinner. Never again, it's a shame as the garden centre and cafe look well presented.

Two stars is purely due to the queue times. Food and service were both great but a 30 minute queue to place our order then needing another drink part way through the meal meant standing in the queue for another 15 minutes to be served. Mind blowingly daft situation. Staff were apologetic, not their fault and they seem to be working their socks off around an incredibly inefficient food service system. If you’re going to have a counter then have more tills that staff can jump in and use like a busy pub, Costa or shop and have enough staff on to function, simple.

The 1911 is a simple coffee shop style restaurant with a good menu that changes gently throughout the day.. Breakfast First followed by lunch then a light afternoon tea. The menu is simple bit good and allows the kitchen to serve up some fantastic looking and tasting food. We went in for a sandwich at lunchtime and ended up.ordering the Vege lasagne. Full of well cooked but not mushed vegetable with a good sauce and texture. Served with a chunk of garlic bread and side salad. Each item was spot on as indeed was the added portion of triple cooked chips (really not needed but who can turn them down). Latte and teas where good and we got change from £30 for food and drinks.

The garden centre includes a wide selection of healthy plants, garden equipment and a large display of sheds, greenhouses etc. The tea shop is clearly very popular and deserves this support. The staff are all pleasant, the premises attractive and clean and the food we have ordered has always been tasty. The one small gripe I have about this garden centre is the route you have to make past the retail outlets to get to the tea shop and the exit. This was a concern when we stopped off while passing through with someone who would have struggled with this extended route. We needn’t have worried, because, on enquiring, the staff were not only able to make access available from the top, but also had wheelchairs available. Another plus was the provision of a spotless accessible W.C. All in all, a very pleasant surprise that made for a lovely family afternoon.

I recently visited The cafe at Palmers garden centre Ullesthorpe for breakfast with a friend. The website states that the vegetarian breakfast is £5.95 including toast and tea or coffee. When we ordered we were charges £8.95 each and the server denied all knowledge for the website menu. The veggie sausages were awful, poor quality and should have been listed as vegetable fingers, because that’s what they were. There are a good range of both vegetarian & vegan sausages on the market, so why they serve up such rubbish I don’t know. Awful breakfast, will not go again & will certainly not recommend.

Went with a group for Sunday breakfast, it was a frosty morning and the log burner was roaring away to warm ourselves on. What I particularly liked is that with the 6 & 9 piece breakfast you can select the individual items you want, really beneficial when you have a fussy eater with you. Although there was an unfortunate issue with the order not transferring to the kitchen this was quickly rectified and 4 hot breakfast were swiftly delivered to our table. The food was of good quality and good value for money. We will definitely return.

Took my mum who uses a mobility scooter for lunch and a browse of christmas decorations. We were able to access the cafe using the exit so it wasn't so far to the cafe. Staff were lovely, food was excellent with orders taken at the counter and then table service. Tables were well distanced and everything was spotless. A chair with arms would have meant mum could transfer off her scooter but there was room for the scooter instead. Beautiful selection of christmas decorations as well and helpful staff who knew where we could find what we'd come for. And the icing on the cake - brand new toilets with a well equipped disabled toilet. Yes there is a ramp for access but there is plenty of room. Support rails by the toilet and easy access wash basin. The privacy of going to the toilet without assistance was much appreciated - well done Palmers

I agree with the reviewer from July, standards have gone down...not to mention portion sizes. Took my mum for lunch the other day, for a measly, (it turned out), toasted sandwich each. A salad dressing on the side, blink & you would miss it, which was dry & tasteless fillings of cheese & ham. I would have liked some coleslaw, but at £1.00 for a spoon full, I thought not. When offered this, the woman behind the counter managed to say it with a straight face. Tea which was too weak to crawl out of the pot & bore an uncanny resemblance to washing up water. The small slices of cakes were £3.00 each. I can't believe people pay these silly prices, for what is average food. Needles to say, we won't be eating here again.

Palmers have changed the Ullesthorpe menu and taken off our favourite jacket/ sandwich filling. Their specials (and jacket potato es) run out by 12.30 or 1.00 and the specials, except the Sunday/ Christmas lunch are very poor: ham, egg and chips is not a special dish. They changed the latte, etc, from a proper barista style machine to an all in one machine a while ago and now they have have gone smaller again. It keeps going backwards.

The menu was very unimaginative and not very healthy. I actually just stuck with a cold drink as couldn’t find anything light and appetising to eat. With great local competition at Farm Shops and other garden centres Palmers really needs to improve to keep up. The cafe at theNarborough branch is far nicer.

Now I think about it , pathetic !!!!! We normally visit Palmers in Enderby that we rate highly but decided to try the Ullesthorpe centre for a change. My only criticism is that for a garden centre I would have thought that the outside area adjoining the cafe could have been kept to a higher standard, weeds and furniture that had seen better days could be found and for this reason I feel duty bound to give a lower score. I was however happy enough with the food and drink but very surprised and disappointed with the presentation of the gardens

A small trip out for lunch for my birthday, whilst recovering from surgery ended up being very disappointing because my soup was cold and my husband's soup was hot. As the soup was not gazpaco it was a problem because how do you take the cold soup back whilst keeping the hot soup hot. When my soup returned my husband had finished his so lunch a deux became lunch for one - hot soup with bread that had now become dry around the edges. There was a positive side to the service in that tables were cleared very quickly which is in contrast to Palmers at Enderby. If you have to choose which one to go to, then I prefer Enderby - the cakes look exciting and delicious, likewise the food. The conservatory part of the restaurant is light and cheerful and food is hot when it should be but tables are often left uncleared.

Hi Trippers,Just a quick one from me about Palmers Cafe. It's very good, and for the value for money its ok. £25 gets you an afternoon tea for 2 in their new extension to the cafe. However be warned it's best to book in advance as it's busy on the weekends, especially now summer is coming. The food was fresh and very good. They have a great gluten free version which looked tasty. Too much for a normal appetite so make sure you ask to take your leftovers home, don't waste food.Unlimited standard tea or coffee with the deal, however upgrades are charged for, such as ice tea or flavored teas.Good views over the garden centre, so nice pot plants to look at. No real negatives, just a couple of points to note, but to be honest they are small. Wifi everywhere expect in the cafe, and no background music.. like I said.. small things.Overall 4 stars for an afternoon tea. Please give me a thumbs up if this was a help to you. I need the points... ;-)Thanks

I go here sometimes on the quiet and it was on a special day in august when I got my money's worth from visiting here Personally I used to go here to view the aquatic fish and the rabbits and guinea pigs because you could sell your animals to them and get £10 for a rabbit and £7 for a guinea pig but I don't think they do this anymore and to view the bargain corner of plants by reductionsAnyway lets get to the free stuff well it was one day in august on a sunday near closing time and there were 2 racks of plants with a sign above them outside the exit door saying "all free " so I asked are they free? and the woman who I presume was the owner said "yes"So I filled the boot of my car with them including the trays and I want to say that my garden looked lovely and full of flowersWhile I was doing this from one of them garden centre pull along trolleys to my car filling the boot up the owner came out ranting and raving with words of " they are free but only so many trays per person"well I didn't know did iWell she did say they were free and I want to say thankyou you made my day and my garden smelt beautiful Some of the plants were past there sell by date and a bit leggy and dry but its allways sweeter when they are free and with alot of water, sunlight and miracle grow well it works wonders as well as the wright soil tolet me know when any free plants are available and i'll come back for more

My partner and myself have frequented the Coffee shop/Restaurant for many years, when we first used to visit it was only in what is now the conservatory seating area.Since expanding things have gradually gone down hill, the quality of the food can be very hit and miss, same goes for the customer service or lack of it. Staff are very poorly trained in how to handle paying customers. On our last visit, a Wednesday lunchtime, we arrived just before Noon, the restaurant was quiet, we found seats and checked out the Menu, Hubby ordered hot food and drinks at 12.06 (as stated on the receipt) by 12.30 there was no sign of our food. However customers who arrived later than us had received their orders.Hubby asked a member of staff what was going on, he went away to find out, on his return hubby was told it would be here shortly. No explanation as to why the delay or apology. Within a few Minutes food arrived, or should I say half of it did, as the other half was nothing like what had been ordered. We asked to speak to the restaurant manager, a young man in his early 20's came over, he was supposed to be the person in charge. We complained about the wait and that, when food did arrive, it was incorrect. He was very uninterested and didn't have a clue what to do. By now we'd had enough and as the one food order that had been delivered, had not been touched, we asked for a full refund for the food, which was rather reluctantly given. This is not the first time we have had problems with food being delayed, it seems to happen quite frequently. So unless your happy to wait for a long time, give this place a very wide birth!

I have visited a few times now. It's always busy and the service is pretty good. It's a 'garden centre' so if you expect fine dining go elsewhere. For me ... I will happily return.

Although the flavour was good, my very small broccoli, walnut and Stilton bake with one slice of thick bread and no butter cost me £9.00. A total rip off. Very disappointed and still hungry.

Tomato soup was very salty and my partners white bread was stale. The coffee was delicious. Overall for £13.50 it was overpriced.

Dined here and really enjoyed their Fawlty Towers Dining Experience. Great value for money and a good laugh. Effectively Dinner, Bed & Breakfast, with entertainment , for £145 for 2. The meal, lasting over 2 hours interspersed with Basil, Cybil and Manuel and their comic turns, was excellent and not an easy thing to organise and deliver. The restaurant managers and staff and the actors all did very well in providing an evening of fun. Well done.

This was the first time I had had food in the cafe. It's a nice cafe and the staff were friendly and quick to serve me. I was there at noon and the place wasn't very busy. I ordered a tuna mayo jacket and tea. The jacket potato was large and fluffy inside with plenty of the tuna filling, but was let down by a quarter of it being hard and not fully cooked which rather spoiled it. Also I crunched on some grit in the salad which wasn't so good either. The tea pot was generous with almost 3 cups in it. I don't think I'd have this meal again if I go back.

We made reservations and prepaid and it was wonderful. They accommodated my allergies and the food was wonderful. We arrived a bit early and shopping in the garden center was fun too. A great activity.

Went for a lunch and found it really busy. All food coming out looked appetizing . Did seem to be some order confusion somewhere and several orders partially went back. Only part of ours arrived. Overall it was lovely food with a varied menu. Well worth a visit.

Gave ourselves a little mid-winter treat - breakfast at Palmers! We ordered the full English and were very impressed with the big platefuls that arrived at our table; lots of fried potatoes, tasty mushrooms, two big sausages, thick slices of bacon, fried egg, beans, grilled tomato, toast and butter AND hot drinks! Staff were friendly and helpful and everywhere was clean and tidy - we found a table with a view out over the garden which was pleasant on a bright and frosty morning.

Decided to treat ourselves and have lunch out. Went to Palmers at Ullesthorpe. Pot of tea for 2 and 2 lunches were reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the food was below par. The quiches were overcooked, possibly in a microwave. The chips had been warmed thru again possibly in a microwave. We have eaten at the Enderby Palmers and their standard is always very good. The staff at Ullesthorpe are lovely. We won't be returning to the Ullesthorpe site anytime in the future.

Nice little place to go for breakfast! They do a hot drink and breakfast bap deal (around £3) between 9-10am Monday-Saturday which is very good value for money. We have been a couple of times for breakfast, their standard one is pretty good value and the quality is quite reasonable. I, however, think the breakfast rolls are the best though. I had a sausage and bacon cob and it was excellent. Incredibly generously filled and really tasty sausages. Drinks are reasonably priced and overall the cafe, if a little devoid of atmosphere, is a nice place for a breakfast catch up with friends and family. Service is friendly and food always seems to arrive fairly quickly. Worth mentioning that the garden centre itself is also well worth a wander around - we nearly always end up buying something in there!

Went with friends for a pre booked meal on Sunday 18th December 2016.The service was poor. Bear in mind we were a group. Two meals came. 15 minutes wait (at least) 2 more meals came. Another long wait and final 3 meals turned up. Some food cold. Beef was tough as old boots. Ran out of our original choice. And so on.Management reluctant to be pro active and would not come to our table.Thoroughly bad experience.Full refund grudgingly given. Management inept. What a frankly deeply disappointing experience.Shan't go there again.

We were all excited at having time-out snd breakfast with Santa. The welcome was very nice and the xmas ambience and table settings were all very pretty. However the breakfast wasnt what we expected.albeit plentiful and unrestricted It was just warm and not very palatable.the bacon had been microwaved ? Was very fatty and needed to cut the fat off as this wasnt nice at all. None of us ate the sausages i dont think they were of a good quality.the rest of the breakfast was just average and not inexpensive!Santa time was enjoyed by the children but festive background music was missing would have made a big difference. We had 2 Santa gifts one was appropiate and child happy. The other gift was a 1000 piece puzzle ... needless to say will never be done . Off to a Charity shop eventually. So that wasnt good. The whole experience was just average.

On my way back from a business trip to Hinkley I remembered this cafe and garden centre we had visited with friends some years ago. It was lovely then as it is now. A warm welcome from the staff, lovely selection of lite bites, lunches and drinks A choice of comfortable seating areas with a good atmosphere especially with xmas decorations up at present. The central log burner in the lounge area is a nice touch. Well worth a visit including the garden centre

My sister suggested we go here for lunch. After wandering around the garden centre and gift shop and the seperate "antiques" centre and greengrocers, we went to the cafe. It is a large L shape and is clean, warm and inviting. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Ask for a menu if you cant see one as the blackboards are not a comprehensive list of what they do. The cakes and tarts etc look lovely. We opted for the jacket spuds which were gargantuan (biggest spuds I've ever seen), filled with grated cheese and an extra portion of homemade coleslaw on the side which was delicious. There was a small well dressed salad too. They do some quite different fillings e.g. hummus and roasted veg and stilton and mushroom being just two. We had 2 small pots of tea - one Earl Grey - altogether £16 which was very good value I have my eye on the large slices of egg custard tart for next time but we were so full that we couldn't manage a sweet today! Recommended.

We were Pleasantly surprised when we called in to see this place for the first time, it was bigger and better than we expected. The cafe/restaurant was very nice, food was good, staff and service was excellent. We even went back the following week.

Plates burning hot but food lukewarm. Dinner served but gravey took 5 minutes to arrive. Small portions. Roast potatoes appeared frozen not home made. Service poor. Expensive for food received. Will not be eating there again.

Have been before and found recent visit very disappointing. Afternoon tea- scone was inedible and when I complained nothing was done, no apology, no refund no replacement - so all in all a waste of money. Staff didn't seem to be bothered and having written an e-mail to complain - have had no reply to that either.

Came for lunch after our children had participated in a charity fun run. It was our second visit and again the food was absolutely delicious - great value for money. Portion sizes spot on, lots of flavour and fresh salad. Good service and luckily there was a table large enough to fit us all. Couldn't recommend this place more. Kids portion was big enough to feed both of them, which is much better than most places. Will be coming back again with the family soon.

I visit here regularly with family or friends and we always find something we all like and enjoy the atmosphere in the café and it's great to have a bit of a shop after in the garden centre, which with the new pet shop is fab! However the last 3 times the food in the cafe has been really disappointing and not consistent, if a table orders all together you expect to eat together not 15 minutes apart, and for the price I would expect the food to be cooked fresh, not sat waiting under a hot lamp making the egg and bacon very dry and well done. I really hope they sort out the kitchen problems because it's a real shame.

Six of us had a "just what we wanted" light lunch at this small, characterful cafe, tucked into one of Market Harborough's historic "yards". Two had the excellent tomato and basil soup, served with a ciabatta roll; two had a delicious ciabatta roll (one gluten free) with cream cheese, figs with a touch of honey and pistachio nuts; one had a bacon-filled ciabatta roll and one had a fruit scone. We all enjoyed our lunch, and the two staff were very helpful. We thought we had made a very good choice out of the numerous options in the town and would definitely go again.

Called in today for our first visit. Received a warm welcome from staff members and were able to be seated as although it was busy lots of people had chosen to sit outdoors. Chose a carvery and we weren't disappointed, choice of 3 meats all cooked beautifully, nice choice of fresh vegetables. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and you weren't bombarded by staff as soon as you started eating asking if it was alright. We were approached but had at least had a chance to have eaten some of the meal! Will definitely be returning here again.

Christmas Carol event. Owners totally reneged on their promise of mince pies and mulled wine. Didn't even turn up to greet the singers. Very poor impression

Many of my friends have raved about this restaurant and we had never been. So after realising it was closing, we just had to book. It was not what we expected - bright lights and bare tables. Not our thing. The arrival greeting was ok but not special and no explanation or interest in us as 1st timers. The food was good and very tasty but it was expected at the price. The wine choice was a different matter. We order one red and one white, not cheap. The white wine arrived by a very young waiter who poured the wine with no option to taste and it was NOT cold. Unbelievable! When asked why it was not cold he said there was ice in the ice bucket. Not a good start to the meal, The waitress leaned over me every time to serve my friend and they didn’t offer new cutlery for each course. Maybe they have lost interest now it’s closing, very sad as we had heard such excellent reviews.
