We've been for afternoon tea at Pale Hall so today we decided to do Sunday lunch. Your experience starts when your car is valet parked for you. We opted for pre dinner drinks in the bar before being shown to our table. The food and drink we received were exceptional. We wish it had been a better day weather wise as it would have been lovely to walk in the grounds.

We were very disappointed in the lunch menu. The quality was average and cost us £200 for 4 of us to eat what we could have had in a decent cafe.Nothing special to be had but a nice glass of fizz.Loved the building and grounds.Such a shame as it was a family celebration.

Looked forward to the ( fine dining) experience of 7 courses After finding a 4 inch length of plastic in second course it somehow spoilt the evening, and still got stung for 12%5 service charge , didn’t release a green star means food is presented wrapped in plastic but take your chances you may enjoy it

We visited the Huntsman Bistro to celebrate a special birthday in the family. It was difficult to find in the dark and not easy to find the restaurant even once in the grounds but well worth the effort. Every dish served was wonderfully thought through and put together and we felt the bill reasonable. Our pre dinner cocktails didn’t arrive until after the food, however it was honestly explained and they were taken off the bill. Of much surprise was the option for steak which was pink or well done only. We asked if it could be medium as our daughter definitely would not want rare and well done is not to her taste but she was told no. She went for well done as ‘pink’ was too much of a gamble but it’s surprising that a place such as Pale Hall would not take a preference for something so simple. Aside from that and some burnt toast with a ham hock the rest was absolutely delicious.

We decided to book Pale Hall for a special birthday celebration and had a dinner reservation for 6.30pm on Sunday. We were staying in nearby Bala, at the Plas Yn Dre (also fantastic) and planned to get a taxi to take the four of us at around 6pm. This turned out to be not quite as simple as we imagined. There is only one taxi firm in Bala and, by all accounts, they're not the most reliable, to say the least. We requested a cab the day before and they couldn't commit, saying they'd call us to confirm, but they didn't. When we called them on the Sunday morning, again they said they would call us later, but again we heard nothing. As we all wanted to enjoy a few drinks to celebrate, we reluctantly decided we'd have to cancel our booking at Pale Hall and eat out in Bala instead. We rang the hotel and were delighted to hear that they would just come and pick us up in their courtesy car and drop us back in Bala later! So, bang on 6pm, fab Front of House Manager Gareth picked us up in the hotel's swish electric Porsche and whisked us to Pale in no time at all. Upon arrival, we were welcomed into the spectacular hall where we sat agog at the incredible surroundings, before being offered drinks by the incomparable Rob, who looked after us in his own inimitable style for the entire perfect evening. After sampling a superb glass of Welsh red wine, we ordered a bottle for the table and were shown into the Huntsman Bistro - a fabulous room with a crackling log fire, oozing with sophistication and charm. The food was as spectacular as the surroundings. Tasty starters of seared mackerel and ham hock terrine were followed by delicious mains of sirloin steak, battered cod and beef short rib. The yummy desserts were also too good to resist. After paying the very reasonable bill, Gareth returned with our warmed coats and delivered us back to our hotel as promised. We very nearly missed out on one of our best ever dining experiences, but thanks to the fabulous team at Pale Hall, we will forever recall it as a truly memorable night. Thank you so much to the lady on the phone (sorry, don't know your name) who ensured our plans weren't left in tatters, to Rob for being the perfect host and to Gareth for going above and beyond.

Subject: Amazing Food and Fantastic Stay - Can't Wait I just had to share my excitement about our recent stay at the hotel. It was truly an amazing experience, and I couldn't wait to tell you all about it! First and foremost, the food at the hotel was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a wide range of delicious options that catered to all our tastes and preferences. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, every meal left us satisfied and craving for more. The culinary team really outdid themselves, But it wasn't just the food that impressed us. The entire staff at the hotel was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. They made us feel right at home from the moment we stepped through the doors. They were not only attentive to our needs but also went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. And guess what? Even our furry friend Doogle Giant schnauzer had a fantastic time! The hotel was pet-friendly, and our dog was treated like a VIP. The staff was so friendly towards him, and there were even special amenities and services provided for him. It warmed our hearts to see how well he was taken care of during our stay. Needless to say, we are already counting down the days until we can rebook our stay at the hotel. It was truly a memorable experience, and we can't wait to return and create more wonderful memories together. Sending you all my love and eagerly looking forward to our next stay at this incredible hotel. John

Myself and my wife called for a look around and morning coffee . As context we have stayed at a number of relais hotels and coming down the drive and to see the hotel and grounds it is up there with many of them . However upon walking in we were left wandering and started to feel like we were intruders - there was no warm welcome, other guests we believe just stared at us and it was all a bit uncomfortable. So we went back to our car and after a while decided to try again but same experience. We had a drink in the Huntsman Bar and staff were ok - not over welcoming and all the time you felt you had to whisper. All not at all in line with our other experiences at relais hotels . Suggest this hotel takes its staff to Grantley Hall or Gilpin ( both of which are amazing ) for a look there and try to replicate .

I booked an eight course taster menu fine dining experience at Pale Hall for my wife's birthday treat, which turned out to be a hugely disappointing non event. I made our booking for two, five weeks in advance of valentines day, which seemed to be the perfect romantic choice, and no mention of restrictions to menus or of their being a " set " menu for Valentines day was ever mentioned, until the actual day itself, despite having discussed our requirements to five separate members of staff over a five week period. I discussed our requirements with Luke the day before we were due to dine at Pale Hall, and was very surprised to establish that we had been allocated a table in the family dining area, Venetian room, and not the Henry Robertson Dining Room, despite the website clearly stating that the taster menus are served in the latter. On "V" day itself, I called to ensure all was to order, only to be told by Jan that the hotel was not serving the eight course taster menu. I shared this update with my wife who was both surprised and disappointed that such an establishment could be run so randomly. I called Jan back and after two more phone calls, she conceded that they would provide us with the eight course taster menu. I subsequently discussed my overall concerns with the manager Debbie, who confirmed that the Hotel was only serving a set five course taster menu for V day. I complained that this was never made clear from the time of our original booking to the actual day itself, despite having spoken to five members of staff about our dining requirements. Debbie offered us a free bottle of champagne as a gesture of good will, and after my protests, re instated our booking to the Henry Robertson Dining Room. When I asked if the "V" day menu was the same price and selection as the sample menus on line, Debbie confirmed that it was, despite the fact that two selection options had been removed. I then asked if the wine taster flight was the same price as the sample menus on the web site, and she confirmed that they were. She then emailed me a copy of the " V " day five course taster menu, which revealed that the wine flight price had been hiked from £ 60.00 to £ 95.00 despite there being no changes to the wines provided. I called Debbie again to express my disapproval and shock at being constantly misled by her and her staff. She responded by assuring me that we would be charged the original price of £ 60.00 per person per head, which caused even greater concern, when considering that all other diners ordering the wine flight would be made to pay the inflated " themed " rate of £ 95.00. Having been deceived and misled by both staff and management throughout, we were left with no other choice than to cancel our booking, just two and a half hours before we we due to celebrate my wife's birthday, with a fine dining experience. What we actually were offered at the 11th hour, was a diluted themed menu, with no choice options, plus a wine flight package that had been inflated by a whopping 60%. Suffice to say, we will never be dining nor staying at this shoddily run establishment again.

On arrival we were informed 'you are in for a treat'. The result was exactly the opposite. I had telephoned 30 hours in advance to confirm we were one vegetarian and my son did not eat smoked salmon. It took 5 attempts to speak to someone who confirmed this was all in order. On arrival I was 'interogated' by a female member of management who had the most awful personal hygiene issue. 'When did I telephone'? Who did I speak to? Did I know my wife was vegetarian as this presented a problem!!! Finally this was all resolved and we were served dry sandwiches and scones and cake which was at best 'poor'. 3 requests for drinks went unfulfilled and finally a disgruntled waitress served us. Trying to pay the account was difficult in the extreme and when I went to the main entrace hall area the original member of management apologised for the misunderstanding and said 'is £50 alright for all of you'. I will not return and despite a letter to management from my son there has been no response. My advice is forget Pale Hall for afternoon tea and get a train to London where the art of afternoon tea and service is alive and well.

We walked here from where we were staying and were shown into the beautiful Henry Robertson dining room (which overlooks the lovely gardens and has a beautiful fireplace and inlaid ceilings) for Sunday lunch. Grapefruit Negronis were excellent. A good choice of bottled beers and wine by the glass was also available. The ham hock terrine served as a starter was excellent with little sharp bits of pickle and piccalilli giving the rich ham a freshness. My daughter’s pea soup was top notch: fresh and fragrant and complex (good as the terrine was I should have had that soup!). The vegetarian main was a panisse (made from chick pea flour) which again was complex, smoky and with a lovely baba ganoush garnish. The roast beef main course was very good. Beef was pink and beautifully thinly sliced, tender and flavoursome. Roast potatoes were crispy but soft inside. Yorkshire pudding was good (but not as good as my nanna’s). Vegetables - including parsnip - were beautifully cooked and it was all brought together by a very beefy gravy. We allknow what a good roast tastes like so it’s a tough task for a chef to wow people. This was top notch. Pudding was an egg custard tart which was very good. All in all a very good Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price. Service was attentive, chatty and when required discreet. We felt very welcome and will return.

We were greeted by friendly staff at the door and that's about the highlight of the visit. We were shown to our table and pretty much left to our own devices, no explanation of what teas were on offer or what was on the stands that were delivered, which contained 3 finger sandwiches and 3 insipid cakes per person, with bowls of massive scones to fill up on.The waiter apologised to the only other guests when they complained that they thought they had the dining room to themselves and he made a joke of pretending to push us out of the room.About an hour after finishing the food, we ended up having to wander the hotel to find someone to get the bill for us and they had the nerve to add 10% service charge.

We were finally able to return to Palé to sample both the summer five and eight course tasting menus and both were perfectly executed and delicious, as well as being visually appealing. I’m not a fan of goat’s cheese, but the raviolo was balanced out by other elements. My husband’s favourite dish was the red mullet. However, the eight course menu was outstanding, with the tiny pieces of smoked eel packed full of flavour (not fishy) and the pigeon beautifully tender. The tomato dish was divine, the langoustine with Asian accompaniments was stunning and all followed by four more excellent courses. It was difficult for me to pick a favourite, as they were all so different. How this kitchen manages to turn out three different menus every night with such a small brigade is amazing. I’d recommend being adventurous with a tasting menu – don’t be put off by things like eel and pigeon because of preconceptions, as they are only small courses. We’re already looking to the winter menus.

Afternoon tea in exquisite surroundings in an old Manor House near Llandderfel. The service was excellent and so was the quality of the items offered in the afternoon tea. However, must the excessive price reflect the posh surroundings? Paying £36 for a small bottle of Prosecco seemed very expensive! I wish the staff would reflect the language of the area and be able to speak Welsh, it would add to the experience immensely.

Went for lunch on a weekday - certainly a lovely & impressive location.Things started well, with attentive service a good menu and well presented food, unfortunately the service petered out after the first course.Seemed the attention was then on afternoon teas being served in a different dining room - we never saw the original waitress again & other staff hurried pass dealing with high teas without any acknowledgement of us Was considering a desert but as no one seemed interested in dealing with us I walked off to the reception to find someone that would take our payment .This would be somewhat irritating in a standard everyday pub restaurant but is even more galling when paying 5 star prices - we are not ones for making complaints or poor reviews generally & if the venue had not been such an upmarket establishment would have left it at that - but since it is promoted as a high end hotel charging such prices I believe it deserves a poor review based on the service offered - certainly it spoiled our experience

A celebratory stay as it was my birthday. The hotel is magnificent, furnishings, carpets all beautiful. Although it looks a bit "stuffy" the staff are just wonderful making it a relaxed atmosphere. Our room was Penrhyn which overlooked a courtyard and herb garden, waking up to the trees swaying and birds singing was a delight. As a massive John Lennon fan I was thrilled to see a limited signed print of one of his sketches, it's the little things...The bed was enormous and extremely comfortable all 5 star furnishing and linens. If I had a gripe it was the lack of toiletries although I'm sure the housekeeping would have brought more if I'd requested. We were welcomed with a glass of champagne served in my favourite style glass (saucer). We had the 8 course menu and wine flight and enjoyed everything, although a little disappointed with the chocolate course I felt could have been richer? Otherwise no issues. The atmosphere was just right. Overall a definite 5* for service, Hotel in general and location.

I always think a good hotel should never turn anyone away. Some of my favourite hotels have been ones in which we have visited for a coffee and later came to stay. We turned up at this wonderful hotel full of excitement only to be turned away. We were hoping to have lunch or afternoon tea or anything to be honest. Initially we asked if they were serving non residents inside. The lady on reception said that she would have to ask the General Manager. He said sadly we were not allowed inside. This is something that I can understand. We asked in that case please could we sit outside on the chairs and tables which looked incredibly inviting. Again we were told that this was not possible. I questioned this and again I was told it was a definite no. Very sad. The hotel looked wonderful. I have read reviews and I was very excited. I understand that due to Coronavirus the inside maybe for residents only however as I said previously a good hotel should never turn anyone away. I read that the hotel was struggling one month ago and again more the reason to be as inclusive as possible. Surely they could offer outside service to non residents. We are on holiday until Tuesday. If I like somewhere I will go every day. We may well have spent in excess of £200 at the establishment over the coming days.I once went to The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh for coffee with my wife and family. We were told that they were closed sadly and the Concierge came over as we were leaving and said we would like to open up the Palm Court area specially for us. We were stunned by such service. We are planning on staying in the future. I have stayed previously and these kind of moments can stay with you forever.Such a shame. I absolutely love nice hotels. The hotel looked absolutely wonderful. It is such a shame that we did not make it thought the door or even in to the garden for that matter.

We ate here two evenings having the 8 course taster menu one day and the 5 course the other. These are their speciality. Matching wine flights are available too - which we had one evening. There is a more modestly-priced a la carte menu available but these seemed very 'ordinary' - although we didnt try them. The bar drinks menu is reasonably priced. Our experience of the taster menus was good. We enjoyed every dish - some were stunning. It is limiting though, in a residential setting, that the menu does not change one day to the next, compounded by the fact that the promoted offer rolls the 5 course menu into the room price.

2 of us visited yesterday lunchtime and ordered 3 courses from the set menu. This was incredibly reasonable for refined, high quality food in beautiful surroundings. The complimentary home baked wholemeal bread was so moorish and went nicely with the butternut squash veloute. For some reason, the waitress only poured half a small jug of the soup over the vegetables, and this was quickly devoured in about 2 spoonfuls. I noticed that other customers who were served the same starter were poured a full jug. A special mention about the traditional Turkey dinner which was delicious and memorable. I am a convert to liking sprouts and brown turkey meat now! A tiny criticism is that the cranberry sauce was too tart for my tastebuds. We had the trio of chocolate panna cota for dessert and although it was tasty and decadent, panna cotta was perhaps a little misleading as a description as there was no wobble to it nor was it the texture of just set cream. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it. To round off the meal, we relaxed in front of a crackling fire with good coffee and a tasty mince pie.As always, I was impressed by the customer service. Everyone we came across were professional, had a knack of making us feel special and nothing was too much trouble. Staff showcased their personalities which I appreciated as I am not a fan of overly stuffy and formal service in high class establishments. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience and look forward to next year's annual Christmas lunch. Diolch

Pale Hall certainly has the wow factor as you drive into the estate, but even that was almost eclipsed by the warmth of the welcome we received! Two smiling staff members approached as we arrived, our bags were taken, and our car parked for us. We were warmly greeted by name and escorted into an amazing entrance hall with huge log fire blazing. As our son and his fiancee had recently become engaged, champagne was brought to us in the lounge as a celebration gift. This was much appreciated by all four of us! We were also upgraded to two gorgeous rooms with views over the grounds and valley beyond. Very comfortable beds and well appointed bathrooms/wet rooms. The house is beautiful with ornate painted cornices and ceilings and fine furnishings, but there is a warmth of atmosphere throughout. Service was superb and we all had the 5 course tasting menu for dinner, which we were able to adapt to personal preferences, and which was delicious! Staff were discreet but attentive, and having overheard our son's fiancee mentioning how hard it is to find South African wine in New York, our waiter promptly returned with details of a wine seller in Manhattan who specialises in South African wine! It was that sort of thoughtful attention to detail which made Pale Hall so special. We found every staff member to be very friendly, and would like to mention Luke in particular who was so helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the house. The lunch was good value and beautiful tasty food (portion size was a little small). Great puddings! Would highly recommend.

This is the first time we have visited Pale Hall Hotel which is located between Corwen and Bala in North Wales. I expected it to be grand, but not only was it grand, the welcome and service were excellent. We visited for afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday for my elderly father and we all enjoyed the setting, where we sat, the afternoon tea itself and the help we received with mobility issues. The portions for afternoon tea are of fine dining standard, which was fine by us, but some may expect more. Everything is made and presented to a high standard. I thought some background music of some sort would really make it really special, and I can see in photos on the website that there was a harp and piano in the reception area, where now there is a bar. Harp music during an afternoon tea would make it very special as it's incredibly relaxing, so perhaps something to consider. Thank you so much Pale Hall for giving us such a nice afternoon.

We were camping Nr Bala & Palé Hall had been recommended to us by friends. We were very lucky to get a table as its extremely popular. We had such a beautiful Sunday lunch and were made to feel very welcome to explore the rooms & gardens. Staff are all lovely and the food is first class. Yes it’s a little bit pricey but worth the experience we think!

Wow!....a couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be treated to afternoon tea here by a very dear friend. I was also allowed to take my dog! We had a thoroughly lovely afternoon...went for a walk in the gorgeous grounds (well done to the gardeners, who keep it looking fabulous), met the donkeys, were served our afternoon tea in the library (which we had all to ourselves, so felt very exclusive) , the afternoon tea itself was amazing, and they catered for my dietary requirements, the dog was even given a bowl of water and a large boneo biscuit on a plate. No attention to detail was spared, the staff were very attentive and even managed to source me a charger when my phone died! As if that wasn’t enough the chef, Adam took time out of his busy schedule to come and meet us!! We had a truly amazing afternoon, we will be back and we are telling everyone about this little treasure of a place. Thank you to all for a lovely experience. xx

At £28 pp this could be better. Beautiful venue but at these London prices the silver teapots could at least be filled with the real stuff and not tea bags! Oh, and the 'clotted' cream was in fact just the ordinary stuff.

A very old house, that has changed hands several times after becoming an hotel and restaurant. But before the current (novices in the hotel and food chain), took over it had been neglected, closed and rather run down.

Having known about Pale Hall for quite a while we finally made the drive out, around an hour from Chester. Words simply do not describe how marvelously wonderful this place is. The setting is stunning, the décor amazing, service and staff brilliant and the food is sublime.

We came for lunch and from being greeted at the door to leaving an hour and a half later we had an extremely agreeable experience. It was most relaxing with our three courses coming at just the right pace. Our food and wine was spot on and the staff were most attentive and friendly. It was honestly our best lunch ever and we hope to repeat the experience later this year.

We had the 10 course taster menu on the first evening and the classic menu on the second. Amazing food in amazing surroundings and the breakfasts the next day did not disappoint. Thank you so much looking after us

We were visiting relatives in the area and found Pale Hall whilst browsing the net for a special place to take my mother in law for her birthday. Afternoon tea was perfect and I would recommend a visit to Pale Hall whilst visiting the area. If you are staying in nearby Bala hands down you have to come and experience the hospitality and food at this georgeous venue. The food is the best in the area. We really enjoyed the setting, the service and the food. Such professional care taken in the presentation of the sandwiches and the cakes. We enjoyed the bakewell "tacos" and the delicious scones with clotted cream and home made jam. The service was not intrusive and we enjoyed having the drawing room to ourselves. So nice to experience a traditional grand house in all its finery. My 10 year old daughter was also welcomed and treated as part of the group. We cannot wait to come back and book again!

We eat Sunday lunch with two friends as well as an evening meal the following night. Having read various reviews we were really looking forward to the whole experience. Unfortunately Sunday lunch was disappointing, for three of us at least. Three of us chose sole from a fairly limited menu. This was a very strange piece of fish and the three of us were bemused as it was bearly edible and not like any sole we had ever had. The fourth member of our group was delighted by his roast beef lunch. The black currant soufflé desert was exceptional.

We called in to Pale Hall Hotel for coffee and were made very welcome. We were allowed to have a look around as one of parents and three of our grandparents had worked there in the past. The coffee is very reasonable priced for such an elegant establishment, it's served in a silver jug together with home-baked bisquits and everying thing was excellent. We weren't rushed and all of the staff were very courteous and pleasant. We'd certainly visit again and next time book for a meal.

Decided to come here for dinner based on other reviews. Beautiful hotel, lovely gardens but food was at best average. Even their canapes which included something as basic as arancini was under seasoned! Service except for the sommelier who was knowledgable was amateurish!

We visited here recently for afternoon tea and spent a very pleasant couple of hours over it. Service was excellent, surroundings were opulent, sandwiches very tasty - egg with red onion, smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham with a sweetish mustard and chicken with a tarragon mayo. Funny how when you first see an afternoon tea you think « That’s not a lot » but by the time you have finished it you feel really full!. The petits gâteaux were attractive and tasty. Scones, both plain and fruit, were light and came with plenty of jam and clotted cream. The macarons, in my humble opinion, were quite chewy and the filling was more reminiscent of dulce de leche with vanilla seeds than the conventional filling - consequently it tended to ooze rather than stay put; the chocolate hemispheres were fine. All in all a very creditable effort and one that intend to revisit in the near future.

On a recent visit to Barmouth we found this little Gem of a place that is open on Sundays. There was a special board out side and it was the Cheese and Onion pie that drew us in . Both my husband and me had this and it came with new potatoes and salad . It was delicious and very reasonably priced . We were naughty and were too tempted by the delicious homemade sweets and puds they had to offer . I had the jam and coconut cake and my husband opted for the apple pie. They were presented lovely with fruit and a pot of cream on the side. The staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning next time we are in Barmouth

We stopped here for breakfast twice, having been disappointed by the service at another establishment. The breakfast rolls are tasty, especially the sausages, and both the tea and coffee were good. Fair prices and very friendly service. Outdoor seating where you can eat your food whilst enjoying the beautiful views of Llanberis and its surroundings. Also does delicious cakes, milkshakes and hot chocolate. Highly recommended.
