Terrible since new management, I asked for half a chicken I got 1/4. food was cooked too long, chicken was dry and too hard, chips were cooked that long they had no potato inside, they cut your throat when swallowing them. Communication was really hard. Please stay away.

We ordereing prawn egg foo yung, special fried rice, noodles, chips, carton gravy;; cost £19.30 It was terrible, the whole meal was spoilt by pouring the gravy over, normally chinese gravy is delicious, this was sickly sweet, which in turn made the whole meal sickly sweet, Nobody could stomach the food, all 3 people agreed it was sickly, We complained to the takeaway, but were refused any sort of compensation and wouldnt listen to our complaint, at one point cut us off, after 2nd call told us to order "spicy, thin gravy" ??? which is not on menu even if we wanted to order it, after much prevarication we asked to speak to manager, we were told no point he does not speak English. To make matters worse 30 mins later I was running to toilet with upset stomach, my wife was vomiting, Please be advised to stay away from this takeaway for your own health, we were never given an explanation why the gravy was sweet

Had many a takeaway from here, usually ok. Tonight we had pretty decent (bog standard really) chicken and sweetcorn soup followed by the most flavourless dish I’ve ever encountered from any Chinese restaurant anywhere ever. King prawn and chicken Szechuan (allegedly). I have seriously had far better ready meals from Asda for less than three quid. Just lost a customer tonight...

I ordered a meal to be delivered at 1800 and was informed it would take about 45 to 06 minutes to arrive, (i only live about 1.5 miles) after 1.5 hours i wrung up and was informed it was on its way, after 2 hours i wrung again and was told there was a problem and it would be delivered within 30 minutes and they would give me spring rolls for free because of the delay. after another hour i phoned again to be told it was with the driver to which i then cancelled the order as 3 hours to wait for a meal to be delivered from a journey 5 minutes away and still not arrived is totally unaccusable. I ordered another meal from Chinese 2 Go and it arrived in 30 minutes. after using the Pagoda for over 10 years i will never use them again, and Chinese was a much tastier meal,

Having moved from doxford park to ryhope last year we hammered the local takeaways as we were so busy decorating that home cooked meals just didnt happen , the Pagoda leaflet is now well worn and we have never had a bad meal, always large portions but still high quality with plenty of meat/prawns whatever. i have visited and picked meals up a couple of times and all looks as it should be in the kitchen , we have converted a few of our friends too. Cant wait till the next time i can find an excuse to order in.

My wife and i have been using the Pagoda for nearly five years and i can still remember when i first walked in to order a meal, my first question was do you use real chicken, the assistant looked puzzled and asked what i meant, i replied do you use real chicken breasts and chicken legs in your chinese dishes, i explained to her that i was sick and tired of wasting my money on umpteen Chinese takeaways in Sunderland using what it known in the food industry as MRM mechanically recovered meat, hundreds or perhaps thousands of chicken carcases which have no commercial use are forcefully pressed by machines against a screen which produces a Pink Slime or as known in the industry as Chicken Goo which is then sent to another facilty where chemicals are added to whiten the product then it is shaped into blocks, it is then sold for distribution to the food industry where it is used for Chicken Nuggets, Fast food ie Chicken Steaks, in Tinned soups and all cheap and nasty foods and of course Chinese Takeaways where it is cut of the blocks in strips and passed off as real chicken. Getting back to the Pagoda of 5 years ago the lady assistant ran into the kitchen and brought out a plate with a real chicken leg and a real chicken breast for which i thanked her and i ordered my meal. I phoned our order in tonight and told them my wife would pick it up at 7pm on her way back from church, i ordered a chicken and prawn curry and my wife ordered a chicken chop suey, my wife returned home and proceeded to put her meal onto a plate when i heard ( What the hell is this rubbish ) yes a plate full of MRM or Chicken Goo, whatever you want to call it, and yes mine was the same but baulked out with onions bearing in mind that this MRM crap that they are using probably costs about £10.00 a ton which is a lot cheaper than cat or dog food. My wife told me that the place had been refurbished and that the people were new so it seems it has been took over, well thats another meal destined for the bin and another takeaway scratched off the list. Greedy greedy people.

Been going here for over 15 years and could comfortably lay claim to being the best chinese in the world, sadly new owners have taken over and have got a new chef in as well, Was suspicious when my chicken curry was ready in less then 5 minutes from the moment i ordered and paid (along with my partners and my father's food as well), Tried it on saturday and still feeling ill from it now on Wednesday. I would avoid at all costs, if anybody knows where the previous owners and chef have gone please let me know as i'd beg them to come back!

Comer a tu propio riesgo!!!

I use this chinese quite often, me and my family never have any complaints. If I'm picky sometimes you have to wait a long time for delivery due to how busy they are but to me that means that they must be well liked within the community.

Sunderland, regarding my previous visits, has always been noticeably poor in the quality of its Chinese food. If I am wrong, please direct me to the correct ones to go to, but overall I seem to have had rice with chicken on top, as opposed to "egg fried rice"; crispy pancakes, instead of "crispy duck pancakes"; and black bean soup, instead of "beef with black bean sauce". Like previous reviewers have suggested, compared to the rest of Sunderland this place is actually quite good; but only compared with the rest of Sunderland. When compared with the rest of the country, this takeaway could just about scrape an average.Regional discrepancies on the menu were interesting; I was looking for a kung po chickcn. The menu, unfortunately, only displayed "bo" chicken. I asked the serving girl what this meant, and she had absolutely no clue. I would have thought she should have more qualification than that before being accepted for the job; notably knowing what is on the menu, but I chanced it and ordered it anyway. The "bo" chicken was interesting: very much soupy, very liquidy, but with similar ingredients to a kung po. It was not as spicy as a kung po should have been, which is unfortunate given that a kung po is barely spicy at all; nor was the chicken as crispy and battered as is usual - instead they were strips of almost tandoori-like chicken. It was pleasant, but I would take a kung po over it any day.My grandmother enjoyed her chicken with ginger, though she did not have a great deal to compare it to having avoided chinese food most of her life. The crispy duck pancakes were quite good - the skin was removed before cooking, it seems, and the pieces of duck were incredibly meaty, but this was just about the only good part that I sampled. My father enjoyed his satay beef, though again complained about the overbearing amount of sauce. In short: have the crispy duck, but don't bother with the rest. Though if you really must have a Chinese takeaway in Sunderland, this may just be one of the minority that are above a "poor" standard.

Probably the best Chinese take away I've discovered so far in Sunderland, but speaking as a native born who now lives in the South East, the general quality of Chinese food in Sunderland overall is not good. What is it with this drenching of whatever dish is ordered in a thick very dark brown gravy/sauce which overpowers the dish and does not look attractive? Anyway, ordered crispy duck - not crispy, no traces of skin, very pale meat. Not my cup of tea but my son enjoyed it I believe. Sesame prawn toast? OK not the best I've had by a long shot, very thin layer of prawn paste - and a little soggy. Mains? A good beef in satay sauce, once removed from the aforementioned swimming pool of dark brown gravy, and I believe the Kung Po Chicken was alright too, although why it was mysteriously called Kung Bo Chicken was beyond me. The Chicken with spring onion and ginger was also good (once removed from the gravy/sauce).

After working a long stressful day I decided I would order from my regular chinese takeaway. I have ordered previously in the past without issue and food is good. Wow how disappointed I was tonight, I was told by the receptionist that the order would be delivered in 50 minutes to then wait an hour and 45. Once I made my complaint I was told the driver had to return as the bag had split and a fresh one would be delivered. You can imagine my surprise when the driver eventually arrived in tow with my order in a split bag and told me my order was the original one taken from the shop. Whilst the driver waited i checked the order to find luke warm curry and cold chips. I re contacted the shop to explain my disappointment when I was told "well if she wants a fresh order she will have to wait for it to be cooked and when a driver is available to bring it". No thanks I replied I have waited nearly two hours....normally a great chinese but despite the wait I'm more upset by the lack of customer service in dealing with my complaint.

I have dined in most of the restaurant in China Town Newcastle. The Tasty Wok establishment offers the high standards of any of the restaurants. Fresh ingredients are prepared and created into the most authentic cuisine I have ever tasted from a takeaway.
