The whole place was filthy. The toilets were disgusting! The clientele in the bar area were effing and jeffing without a care as to who could hear them. There’s no lounge area to get away from it either. Only the bar and the restaurant. My advice is not to eat there ! Oh and count your change.

I booked for one night's B&B and their on line booking system works really well. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, the shower worked fine and a kettle and teas/coffee biscuits were provided. My room had no TV, but others do, so if you want one - check before you book. An excellent English breakfast. You could probably spend a fortune on redecoration "Hotel Inspector" style, but then the prices would have to go up. So, their market is more Offa's Dyke walkers and tradesman working away, and not people expecting a middle class Premier Inn. If want to pay twice the price or more for a posh hotel, there is one at the other end of town. Fred is most congenial host and is eager to please.. I was so tried after walking in very hot weather, I did not use the pub and had an early night

Visited this establishment on Tuesday I’ve visited once before so I opted for a bottled beer. It was a good decision the carling has that rotten egg smell. There was no Guinness and the cask ale was hazey. The cleanliness of the whole building is a lot to be desired especially during these uncertain time’s however I was more worried about catching other diseases from the toilet area !!!! If that’s the state of the bar and toilets what is the kitchen like. Visit the burton hotel or the oak both taking Covid seriously.

We love this place! Popped in for a quick meal after a full day's walking, and liked it so much we went back for the full 3 courses on our last night. While the Oxford Arms is a proper locals' pub, it treats holidaymakers like locals as well - a fine art, and one that a lot of places don't manage. The food was great and reasonably-priced. I had a really good fish pie on our first visit, and I'd recommend the Sticky Ginger Pudding if it's available - really light sponge and little chunks of ginger throughout. Served with custard, it was delicious. We would certainly eat here again if we are in the area. This is a great pub and deserves to do well - go!

Spent two nights away from home to escape our daughter’s first house party, 18th birthday. Fred is a great chap who obviously works hard to keep a massive property well maintained. Massive room and matching en-suite bathroom. I love buildings that don’t have flat floors. Great home cooked food for dinner and breakfast and a proper full sized plate. Beer kept well and nicely priced. We will return to sleepy Kington again.

My room had a large and comfortable bed and plenty of biscuits and drinks for refreshment. If it matters to you there was no TV but as I was out most of the day and both evenings of my stay that was of little importance. Food, service, value for money - I genuinely can't fault it. The owner and staff make you feel so welcome regardless of whether you're a couple or a large group. It speaks volumes when we have a Miller & Carter steakhouse - supposedly experts in steak - 20 miles away in Hereford and yet we and others would rather travel to The Oxford Arms for a steak, which incidentally is 10x better and half the price! Whether you're looking for a special meal out in the restaurant or a relaxed bite in the bar I would thoroughly recommend The Oxford Arms. Ate here on a Saturday night. I had booked over a week before our arrival but was told that they hadn't got notice of a booking and that there was an hour wait. Then our booking was found and we were led to a table. At no time were all the tables taken so I'm not sure what the problem was. As with other reviews the property has a down at heel feel to it both inside and outside. Although there is a restaurant area the pub feels very open and includes the public bar area. The menu was full of solid pub food choices and we ordered a steak and liver with onions both plumping for crumble and custard afterwards. All of which was tasty and filling. The choice of beers was good and the landlord suggested that he tends to choose from breweries within a twenty mile radius. Unfortunately we were there on the Saturday in the month when there was live music and whilst I have genuine high regard for most performers the entertainers on our visit were poor.

Don't be put off by the slightly dark and down at heel appearance. The food was excellent value and home cooked. The landlord was able to confirm which options could be made gluten free and there was a good Veggie selection. We chose a nice bottle of Malbec. Not 'fine' dining but probably the best pub meal in the town.

The place looks tired and run down from outside and the bar area inside isn't much better but don't let that put you off.We popped in for lunch and had a friendly welcome and the food we had, albeit only baguettes, were of excellent quality and full of good quality ingredients. There is a decent selection of ales as well as the usual lagers. The cooked menu seemed varied and reasonably priced, so if in the area give the place a try.

We stayed at the Kington YHA after a weekend in Upton Upon Severn and went to the Oxford Arms for a proper pint of beer. The landlord Is a really friendly guy who gave us several tasters to try before we settled on Auntie Myrtle which is a lovely drop of real ale.We did not stay for dinner as we were in the mood for a Curry and Kington is one of the most depressing places that I've visited and is stuck in a 1950's time warp.

The Oxford Arms immediately struck me as a village centre pub with rather tatty exterior (old cigarette buts on the doorstep and litter all around), no outside area (apart from the carpark) and a general feeling of old and worn out. Which is probably fine for meeting friends in the evenings in Winter but doesn't really stand up as a place to eat on a Sunday in Summer. Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor I was expecting something entirely different. I even went back and checked we had not gone to the wrong place because what we found and what we expected were so diametrically different! The bar area had a few locals who seemed cheerful and the landlord/manager was charming and friendly. I had rung earlier to book a table and his response was "we will fit you in somewhere I am sure" with a sort of chuckle. We later found out why!The restaurant of about 10 tables was deserted at 1.30 on Sunday (apart from one party just leaving when we arrived). Some dishes were offered on blackboards and there was a menu which I spotted on the bar but we were never shown this. The choices were a roast of chicken, beef or lamb and that was it as far as I could see. We did want a roast meal anyway so maybe we could have asked for alternatives but they were certainly not offered. Neither was a starter. The dining room was dark and drear with a lot of dark wood and nothing to relieve it. Cutlery needed a good wash and the table was sticky. Secondary glazing on the windows revealed dead spider (plus accumulated dust and dirt) between the panes right in my eyeline which doesn't really inspire you to enjoy your lunch! Our drinks (local beer and glass of red wine) arrived quickly and were fine. Two roast beef dinners also arrived quickly. The meat was dire - tasted like out of a cheap "boil in the bag" catering pack with accompanying pale gravy. Two small soggy roast potatoes each and a bunch of "new" potatoes which had obviously been left to sprout as we could see the "eyes" on them. Other vegetables were fresh and good and plenty of them. But entirely let down by the dreadful "roast" meat and potatoes. I am afraid we did not stay for desert as our main course didn't inspire much confidence!I am totally at a loss to account for the good reviews this pub has received for food unless we just hit a wrong day. But the accumulated dirt, the wall-to-wall dark wood without art or flowers to brighten it a bit and the general dreadfulness of the dining room cannot be a "bad day".The manager/owner was so friendly and helpful I would like to see him do well. But some cheap improvements (like basic cleaning and a bit of TLC in the restaurant) would do a lot to improve this venue. And maybe some real local meat?I am an honest and fair reviewer and I don't expect 5* food in a local pub restaurant nor a fantastic location. But this was way, way, below what I was expecting from the Trip Advisor rating! The top rating for the area (The Stag Inn which was full when I tried to book) is another animal altogether. Their food is fantastic!

After a very wet day walking offa's dyke this was just what we needed. A very friendly welcome from the landlord, and an excellent menu of individually prepared food. For under a tenner we had tasty and hearty food with a superb dish of vegetables. The Shropshire hills beer was also superb- again very well priced! Thoroughly recommend this as a genuine un-fancy borders experience!

Once again we have visited the Oxford Arms in Kington for Sunday Dinner. We were not disappointed! If you can't make up your mind which meat you want why not have a mixture? Sadie and Fred go out of their way to make you Sunday dining the best experience and you certainly dont leave hungry. The portions are very generous and you have to remember to make room for Sadie's delicious puddings. Her latest is a lemon posset in a chocolate case served with fresh raspberries. The chocolate brownies were so popular they had run out of them. My vegetarian sister-in-law was well catered for too and enjoyed her cheese, leek and potato bake immensely. Fred serves a good range of real ales but we ladies prefer the red wine, the price of which is a pleasant surprise for visitors to the area. Looking forward to our next visit!!!!!

We ate here after reading reviews on trip adviser. We were not disappointed. The owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome - even offering advice on places to go (thanks for that, we need to come back to visit them all!).The food was excellent, hot and tasty and big portions. If I was in the area again I would definitely go back.

Only had a drink so can't say how good the food is, friendly service but seriously need to get rid of all the plastic flowers and put the hoover away please. Behind the bar a little messy and a few small DIY jobs could really improve the overall atmosphere.

Ordered kebabs just after 6:30 to be delivered for 7:45. Well it got to 8:15 so rang to see where food was to be told it was ready but waiting for delivery drivers to turn up. Food finally turns up at 9:05 food wasn’t even what we ordered and was cold. The meat was chewy and dry we ordered chicken and lamb and one of them was all chicken apart from one piece of lamb. The chips were cold to the point it was like eating cardboard. Complete waste of time and money.
