Both me & my partner suffered with this- contacted the restaurant due to our concern & NHS advice, no support offered & implied we were making this up. Avoid at all costs. We paid £200 for a table of 2 people to leave with an horrendous food poisoning, it was not worth it

Lunch today at this little gem. Steeping through the door the smell of fire got the tastebuds firing. Started with the now trendy chicken smaltz which had crispy chicken within served warm fresh bread. Perfectly seasoned and moorish… Main was the squid, chips ( that’s how you do them) and hispi cabbage (well I had it as some green but something to keep the V’s happy. I do hope more V’s eat here as it leaves meat for us. The ox tongue was stunning…had a brief chat with the chef who was happy to divulge the curing, marinating, infusing and cooking method…gonna need six day to try and replicate that! Best just to return and have it there. Well played Ox Club…super original and friendly honest service. Highly recommend..

Unpretentious interior decor and service but the menu is on the higher end of dinners out. As soon as you walk in, you can smell the smoke from their open kitchen which adds to the fact they’re known for their wood fire cooking. Service was good overall, our server explained the specials in detail, answered my questions about the menu well. For starters, we got the oysters (specials), beef tartare and sourdough with chicken fat as starters (all stunning, my firm favourite was the beef tartare). For mains, I ended up with the guinea fowl with sweetcorn puree and it was absolutely divine. It did not taste gamey at all. My husband got the sirloin on the specials menu which was good, he just regret not asking for medium instead of “chef’s choice” (ended up being more medium rare but this is a personal choice). Glad we came here instead of Flat Iron as it was suited to the occasion (husband’s birthday meal).

We visited this restaurant with some family members for a Sunday Lunch. It has an adjoining bar and the entrance for both is set back through a yard off the main street - The Headrow. We were welcomed and shown to a table. The menu did not have a wide choice, but there was sufficient for us to make a selection from the quirky descriptions. There were also no issues in accommodating dietary requirements. When served, the portion sizes were large and the quality of the meals very good, although my main course could have been a little hotter. The service was excellent from all the staff. I felt that the prices were high, although the main course portions were large, too much for most members of our party. The bill contained a discretionary 12.5% service charge, which is a practice that I find annoying, and would influence me to avoid the establishment in future.

Small menu was well explained by the waitress when asked We both had the mackerel starter which was nice And both had the 400g rump steak My husbands was rare and he found it great my was medium and I couldn’t eat most of it as it was hard to cut and had fat sinew in it which wasn’t edible We did let the waitress know when we felt I’d had a go but by this time she felt we didn’t let her know in time to replace the meal Id eaten a bit and didn’t really want a replacement the sauce also wasn’t to my taste I was offered a free dessert but we felt the steak had really ruined my experience and actually I didn’t want a dessert anyway So my husbands meal was great but I personally wouldn’t return for the evening meal

We booked the ox club as we had heard good things. We were blown away by the food, absolutely beautiful flavours and the 1kg steak was perfection. We would like to give a shout out to Connie, she was super friendly and we ordered most of her recommendations and weren't disappointed. We will definitely be returning! We were expecting a great meal as we have eaten here before and it was fabulous. However this time the food wasn't up to standard. Waiting staff were really nice. Starters we're ok but nothing special lack of seasoning let try hem down. Main course of pork was really dry with no flavour at all. Fries were nice but the wine was average. I hate to say but it was a big disappointment and waste of money.

How on earth can a restaurant with an open kitchen think it’s ok for the chefs to stand there eating food off of the counter with their fingers? Hand to mouth then on to the next thing, no washing. Michelin recommended, how? Really put everyone in our group off. Very unprofessional and a big hygiene red flag!

Fabulous meal, the chicken with chicken hash brown was mind blowing. The sauce it came in had me like the astronaut in the spacetime corridor at the end of 2001 A Space Odyssey. The rump steak also great. The staff were so friendly and fun. Great value too!

The kitchen clearly was working on a table by table basis and (unfortunately for us?) we were behind a table of 6 and two tables of 4. So hence we had to wait. As for the food. The rump was overcooked and bland, had to ask for salt and pepper. The potato pomme anna was clearly made at 9am and dried to a crisp by the time it came out. Celeriac roast was burnt, but I guess they get away with it being a fire and charcoal place. Such a shame as I’m sure I reviewed this 5 star from my trip advisor account back in its first year of opening during the Leeds international film festival. Anyway to top it off, no one available to take payment , had to go to the bar and the chef said he’ll find someone to process it.

Visited for the first time today. We were welcomed by the lovely smell and friendly staff. It was a Sunday so we enjoyed amazing Sunday dinners. We both had the beef and could not fault it, everything about it was so tasty. We also tried the truffle cauliflower cheese which we also found superb. We will definitely visit again if in Leeds.

Recently had the misfortune of dining at Oxclub. Our booking was for 6.30pm but unfortunately most of us (5 people) could not make it until close to 7pm due to traffic from York and difficulties on trains from St Ives (Cambridgeshire). We were told that we only had the table until 8.30pm, which wasn’t mentioned during the phone call to reserve the table. We were recommended by one our two waitresses who served our table the cote de boeuf to share (which takes 55 minutes to cook we were told), which we ordered. We also ordered starters and whilst waiting for the steaks, we were reminded by the waitresses several times to hurry up (paraphrasing) culminating just after the steaks arrived in one of the waitresses telling us that we couldn’t have dessert because we’d run out of time. This process of being badgered about time made us all feel unwelcome and none of us could settle and relax to enjoy the meal. The comment about dessert infuriated one of our party, a very relaxed and polite gentleman, so much so that he went over to the waitress who was by the kitchen and explained that we were being made to feel unwelcome and that this is not the way to treat customers. After he returned to the table, our waitress then came over and said “you can’t speak to me like that”, practically in tears. Things deteriorated from there which resulted in us leaving no tip (we normally over tip wherever we go!) and absolutely incredulous at the poor level of service we’d received at Oxclub. At no point did the manager come over and intervene, and perhaps try to lighten the atmosphere. Instead we were left with two waitresses who haven’t the foggiest idea about hospitality or how to deal with the customer. Furthermore, they behaved in a petulant manner at the slightest criticism. The steak was quite good, so compliments to the chef, but you were let down very badly by these two waitress, and the manager. We will most definitely not be coming back and would not recommend this restaurant.

One of the best spots I’ve been to for modern British cuisine. Ambiance: romantic but unpretentious, which lets the food speak for itself. Food: The fries were so good we had to order another side of them. The mackerel was one of the best — if not the best — I’ve ever had. It was my first time trying a baked alaska, and that set quite a high bar as well. I hope we get to come back in the future.

I had a sensational time at Ox Club. The service was absolutely lovely and we had the pleasure of being looked after by Phoebe, she was great! She recommended us some lovely dishes and wine that paired very well. The food was incredible you could really taste the high quality ingredients in each dish, the highlights for me were the chicken schmaltz and the wild garlic butter which came with the delicious steak. The beef tartare was fantastic the quality of the beef was insane! Overall I would love to come back and will be planning my next visit.

We had olives & cracking pigtails with the most amazing brown sauce which was flavoured with hoisin We both had the special of sirloin flat ironed steak with fries & an amazing garlic & herb butter The desserts were cheesecake & the cheese board. Normally a cheese board is a few crackers & a small piece of cheese ……not at the Ox Club there was tea bread and a huge chunk of Yoredale cheese Overall excellent and we will be back Thank you

This had to be the best roast I’ve eaten. The pork was so well cooked with thin crisp crackling. Wish I’d taken more pictures as it came with loads of seasonal veg and pomme anna potatoes. If you live in Leeds, lucky you. I’d definitely do the journey from Bristol again for this.

We have been to ox club three times now and both today (and the last time we visited) we were told at the point of ordering that they were all out of porchetta because of the unusual ordering of the earlier tables… the fact we were presented today with a menu without the porchetta option tells me this isn’t a one off and they are well accustomed to running out and therefore only having a single meat option on the Sunday roast offering… being given the option not to have the beef and leave at 1530 on a Sunday afternoon with no alternative Sunday lunch reservations doesn’t really feel like an option… as such they have lost out on the starter, decent bottle of wine, and dessert as we have just had two plates of beef and a cheap glass of wine each - we watched a further 14 covers arrive after us with the same message - as a Michelin star restaurant we expect their ability to plan and cater for their daily reservations to be a basic offering of an establishment of this calibre - sadly I do not expect we shall return to give it a fourth chance to impress… :(

I visited on 10th Feb 2023 I had heard much about this wonderful restaurant in various places. From the Michelin Guide, personal recommendations and even the Off Menu podcast. The Good -Atmosphere. Set on the ground floor of an old industrial building that also hoises a beer hall and cocktail bar. The restaurant itself is small, intimate yet relaxed and informal. The alluring smell of wood smoke immediately hits you from their trademark smoker as you enter. -Staff. Welcoming and fun from the get-go, the staff put us at ease, made us laugh and explained the menu well. It made for a very relaxed, enjoyable experience. -Food. Top quality British ingredients, much of it local to Yorkshire, expertly prepared and presented. Creative use is made of the smoker. The Bad -Nothing really. If I have to pick, then the fact that toilets are upstairs, shared with the beerhall and, though quirky, aren't quite as 5 star as the dinner experience. The food here is just so delicious, I loved the robust flavours but it was the textures that clinched it . Everything was beautifully cooked and all supported by an esoteric wine list that included organic sulphur free wines. The decor was brutal and as the wait for food was lengthy more comfortable chairs would have helped so take a cushion!

My partner enjoyed their weekday promo of an onglet paired with peppercorn sauce and lambs lettuce. The 'Strange Kompanjie' red wine went well with both. First time: The food is really good! And you must try it! But they don't seem to take the whole experience into consideration. We walked in at 16.55 and were asked to go out again, which was a bit awkward and unnecessary. With a little push, this place could become much more professional. Second time: The food is still very good! I know the chef's changed but Cote de Boeuf was just as tasty, or even better than the last time we tried it! One minor downside: they changed the peppercorn sauce that comes with CdB with sth else but I definitely loved the peppercorn sauce better. Right now, they're offering this Ox tongue starter, which is subtly sauced and bedded on green lentils. Try it when you can! Their potatoes are so delicious and well-baked, even a person who doesn't like potatoes very much like me, would appreciate them. Burnt Basque cheese cake is nothing special in itself but the poached rhubarb gives it the tangy twist it needs. Other than that, the rhubarb was not poached well enough and was still tough in texture. Now these are such tiny details, right? Perhaps so, but to me, they create the real difference.

We had an awesome meal at ox club last night. Some friends were visiting with their 2 year old so we booked an early table at 17:45 so it would be child friendly. The service was amazing from start to finish. The gentleman looking after us couldn’t do enough for us or our friend’s daughter and even arranged for some fries to keep her happy! The food was outstanding. Everything we ordered was great, particular highlights were the duck and the heritage potatoes! Thanks for a great night.

I have never been to the Ox Club before, so this is a very exciting experience for me. That is a very impressive accomplishment! In the beginning, I had heard some complaints about the service that was provided here, such as the staff not being friendly. As a consequence of this, I chose to go to a different location quite a few times. But! My perspective shifted after I went there for a celebration with a friend the previous month. The entirety of the staff is very warm and welcoming. Due to the fact that this is my first time doing anything, they are more than welcome to explain anything to me. The food is, without a shadow of a doubt, exceptionally mouthwatering. Even though it is a little bit costly, it is absolutely well worth the money. It is something that I think everyone should experience at least once!

I only gave it 4/5 for atmosphere, because of the location of the restaurant being in the same building as a loud bar and a slight shame parking not closer, but it didn’t change the enjoyment at all and the atmosphere in the restaurant itself was lovely.

My wife and I went for Sunday Lunch and were amazed. The cool bistro style decor and the friendly and helpful staff were only surpassed by the food. The roast pork with crackling was the best I have ever tasted and the beef was loved by my wife. The sides of pomme anna, and roasted veg were also excellent.

Really disappointed for the amount of money spent (over £100 each). The sharing steak was decent but not £95 worth and the starters were ok, sides were bang average. We got sat in the corner facing a fire exit despite other tables being free so didn’t get any form of appreciation for the venue. The wine descriptions are really unhelpful and so we ended up picking two wines that we didn’t like but that’s just tough luck. The place shares a building and toilets with a beer hall next door and so you’ve got to walk through there and deal with that. On the whole, it was really overpriced for the quality of venue, experience and food and the obligatory service charge was an added disappointment when there wasn’t really much service.

This was my second visit to this meat-lovers heaven of a gastronomic delight and it certainly lived up to my memories of the last visit. This visit I sat with my son at the counter overlooking the chefs crafting their mouthwatering delights. I had a superb Ox Negroni and my son chose to sample the Ox Yuzu Spritz which he said was amazing. We first tried the extremely gorgeous KF mussels which were breadcrumbed mussels fried in a lovely umami tasting oil. I commented on another starter, pork belly in a similar coating to the mussels, that was being served up and the staff kindly then offered us a free plate. It was as delicious as the mussels. Followed by starters of squid for him and a fish carpaccio for me. A lighter touch but equally delicious! A very decent bottle of red then accompanied our mains of pork chop, which was probably the biggest and most succulent chop we’d seen before and the venison for me with the most delicious sauce and in think deep meaty fried artichokes (forgot to ask) and a Caesar salad that had a lovely load of bottom of the pan meaty crisp bacon morsels. We had to take most of the pork away in a doggy bag as the whole indulgent meal had beaten my son by this point. The portion sizes are very generous, as are the staff with their attention to detail and service. I would highly recommend a visit if you ever find yourself visiting the city.

Me and my wife came here for our 1 year Anniversary. We were served by Joe, he broke down the menu and gave us recommendations on which plates to order. We ordered the Chips and Onion soup. The chips may be a tad hard for some but the onion sauce is delicious. We had a whole chicken, hands down the best chicken I have ever had. It’s cooked to perfection so make sure you order it. We also ordered the flatbreads (lamb and aubergine) which were 10/10. The food is incredible and really well priced for what you get. The atmosphere is great and all the staff are lovely. 10/10 recommend. Shout out Joe 👏🏽

Michelin star quality of food, in a laid back, welcoming environment. I would recommend booking counter seating if available. Being able to watch the chef's producing stunning dishes was a real treat. Kentucky Fried Mussels, Sirloin Steak and their Sourdough with Chicken Schmaltz were the stand out dishes for me.

Genuinely I think this was one of the best meals i’ve ever had. The service was fantastic and super friendly, the food was incredible and all in all it was a wonderful atmosphere. The cote de beouf is phenomenal with the different sauces making each mouthful a new sensation but the baked Alaska is simply mind blowing. Cannot thank this place and our wonderful waitress enough for such a memorable night.
