Ovisher in Cherwell

Great Restaurant and always good honest food , we use it on a regular basis and never had reason to go elsewhere . Give it a go you won’t be disappointed.

I ordered a takeaway to be delivered early tonight as a treat for us. It wasn’t a cheap order and I had to call a couple of times to chase it. They said they were very busy which it was why it was so late. When the delivery eventually arrived, the delivery guy said that their cars were blocked in by other delivery vehicles which was why it was so late. The food was cold and not pleasant after being re heated. Won’t be ordering again.

Mediocre food, poor, offhand service. This used to be a good place but no longer. I would advise looking elsewhere. Indecipherable bill which was snatched away when I started looking at it.

Honestly I just ordered a takeaway haven’t been in there specifically but it’s some of best Indian food I’ve had since moving from London, lived here 11 years and found it always so disappointing to eat Indian food in Oxfordshire. I completely went off it. But I had a craving and mum had done the Tuesday buffet and said how good it was so gave it a try and honestly it’s really nice much much much much much much much better than any other place I’ve gotten Indian food from in the whole of Oxfordshire. Recommend the set meal A as well good value and tasty options. Yum, also thanks to the nice man who brought it to us!

Food was good, place appeared clean. Staff were very standoffish and unapproachable. Didn't let that spoil my enjoyment, but I do think they need to brush up on their service.

Visited tonight. Food was exceptional . Dishes were fresh Lamb shank was delicious and very popular with other customers too. Poppadoms were warm and fresh. Sides and salads were presented well and very fresh . Waiters were attentive and helpful with a very busy restaurant doing a great job. Can’t wait to visit again.

We were spending our last evening of our holiday in the area and looking for a quality takeaway. Ovisher did not disappoint.

We’ve been coming here for best part of 30 years. Food has always been a cut above other Indian restaurants for us. Bit pricy but definitely worth it. Service and food amazing always plentiful of good quality meat.

We began our evening with poppadoms which were stale. At which point the two waiters were more focused on the phone with deliveries than the customers seated in the restaurant. The lamp tikka was very dry, tough and had no flavour. The saag dal had no taste or flavour. The rice was served clumpy as if it had been heated in the microwave. The chicken buana was burnt and tasted burnt. Lamp shank had the best part of the meat cut off. Even the peshwari naan had lack of flavour. The waiters were not in anyway attentive to the customers. This was an exceptional restaurant before and I have now established there is a new owner. This is possibly the reason. I would strongly advise not to experience this restaurant as there are so many more to choose from

Really good food, the king prawn pathia (so happy to see this on the menu as not common) was amazing and it was really reasonable, only came to about £25 a head and we took loads to go because we couldn’t finish it

Returning customer- left disappointed by rude manager who had no serving etiquette. Attempted to overcharge our table and a second table snd was caught red-handed! Absolutely disgusting considering they were busy. I don't plan to return to this place.

The restaurant has a lot of staff, therefore service is good. The place is heaving with customers on a Saturday night. It is so busy with the phone ringing ever 2 minutes. At one point both phones were ringing and both online ordering systems were printing orders. This is a good sign which means people are crazy for Ovisher food. I ate many times and I have to agree the food here is crazy good.

The restaurant has reached the standard of when Abdel Bari used to run it. The staff are attentive without being in your face and the food and service is excellent.

The food was absolutely delicious, service was great and food arrived very quickly! A perfect place for an evening meal with family or friends!

Saw the banquet night advertised in the local paper and thought I’d give it a go. The price is £13 per person which is good value. The portion of the food is good. And the food was surprisingly tasty. It was very busy restaurant which means they are doing something right. Will visit again. Highly recommended.

In all the restaurants where I have eaten, I had never known a restaurant to charge a take-out fee, when I questioned the extra they said it was for the containers though they don't advertise this or mention it when you ask if you can take the food away, If your going take your own containers!!

Went there for business dinner and was a large number and the restaurant had not catered for that. 2 hours to get the mains out and they were very powdered spice dishes. Not very greasy and staff were challenging when questioned about missing dishes. Not a place I’d return to

Highly recommend a visit. I came with my husband and 2 young sons and everything was perfect. The staff were so lovely to my sons, food delicious and reasonably priced and beautiful decor. Definitely worth a visit! Best Indian restaurant we have been to.

Very tasty food - such a bargain with huge choice on the Tuesday banquet - very filling indeed. You didn’t need poppadoms and pickles! Little evidence of any COVID precautions here if your nervous about that.

Visited the restaurant on 25 July, booked in online for 6.30pm and was welcomed upon arrival. We've been here previously when we've stayed at a hotel 6 miles away (Hopcroft Holt) but we were with friends on this occasion and their first visit with us....

An excellent experience. From booking over the telephone to the welcome and eating experience it was first class. The lamb shank recommendation was superb and the spices and flavours were great.

Whilst its ok I feel the ingredients could be fresher & better prepared. It felt like the chicken had been pre cooked, the sauce had been cooked separately and then bunged together for delivery. Wasn't overly pleasant and tasted like it has just been reheated.

We have only had deliveries but they have been excellent. The food is consistently good and the right temperature to serve, no reheating! They have always arrived earlier than expected. Can't fault it!

Once I can accept a substantially later delivery, but twice seems too much. The food as ok. Average, but certainly not worth an additional wait. But a near 1 hour delay in delivery, without warning is unacceptable and not what I expect from an established...

Went to the Ovisher at 1:35 pm. Today Lunchtime menu board outside, OPEN flashing on the door. 3 of us walked in & told "we close at 2pm you have to go. Needless to say we won't be returning

The best food, do not get me wrong, A very good indian....but....they forgot my mint sauce which kinda ruined my whole take away. Check your orders, don't be disappointed!

Been to this restaurant for the last few years on new years eve. Today we waited for an hour to get a drink and it took nearly two hours for our meal to arrive. The meal was then overcooked and a big disappointment. Lots of people complaining. Last time we go there.

Called in to have lunch with the wife after looking round the motor park, was looking forward to a nice tandoori lunch, however at 12:30 it had been open for half an hour and was empty, asked for a table for 2 and the look we got was disgusting as if we had disturbed his rest, so we thought that we would order a takeaway, the guy then tried to charge me nearly £9 over the menu price, when we questioned the cost he said the takeaway menu was out of date and he was wanting for new menus, so we told him what to do with his restaurant and left, never to go back again

Waiting for take away......so far 1 hour and 20 mins since order was placed. We were told the wait would be an hour or hopefully sooner. It’s finally arrived after 1hour and 35 mins.Food was okay, just warm and popadoms were soft and spongy, didn’t eat them.

We arrived at 9.30 on a Friday and it wasn't very busy so we were quickly seated. The staff were very attentive and the food was very nice. I didn't give it 5 stars because they initially forgot the rice which my friends ordered and the spiced poppadoms were a bit too brown. However we enjoyed my food very much and it was reasonably priced so we will go back there again.

We had friends to treat to a special vegetarian occasion and were delighted that the Ovisher was such a really good experience. Welcoming and kind, great service, very friendly, with delicious authentic food and of course - the bottled Cobra beer. Excellent - thank you very much.

Ordered a delivery at 6-55 pm, rang them at 8-20 when nothing had arrived. Was told the driver was on his way and would arrive in 5 minutes. Still nothing at 8-45 so rang again to be told we must have given the wrong address as the food had been delivered to another address and paid for They said they would send the order again. When it finally arrived just after 9pm it was luke warm so had obviously been sent to the wrong address, rejected and returned then sat there waiting until we chased them & they then took down the address correctly. They seem to struggle to hear on the phone above the noise in the restaurant. Won’t be ordering from them in future.

First visit and greeted genuinely by the waiters who were very helpful and friendly ....particularly about discussing adjusting the spiciness of a main course It’s good that tables aren’t too close together, enough room for them to bring a trolley around with all your plates on it The food was lovely, fresh, tasty and probably too much for us .....but we battled through, my parents didn’t raise a quitter☺️ Nice pint of Cobra helped All in all, very enjoyable experience and will definitely be back

I decided to try this establishment after having a few light beers with my friends. The food is what you would expect from a standard curry house. My friend decided to offer his services with one of the waitors and was met with a very hostile and aggressive reaction. Following this, he offered him outside for a wrestle however my friend declined as we have an important elephant polo match in the morning and cannot risk injury. After making fun of a few of the chaps less fortunate in the hair department, we paid and left.

Booked a table for 8 family members for my partners birthday. Plenty of waiters around but as the restaurant got busier we were forgotten about. Lots of people ordering/waiting for takeaways standing around our table and being very noisy, they seemed to take precedence over the customers who had booked tables. Had to ask to have our empty plates taken away after about 30 minutes and no offer of desserts or coffees. Asked for our bill which never came, finally had to find a waiter to say if we didn't get the bill we were just going to leave which seemed to work!! Food was ok but service was terrible. The waiter who took our order was very unfriendly and rude. Know they were busy but that's no excuse for bad service. Will not be going back there again.

Booked a table for myself and by 78 year old disabled mother for 1:20 this afternoon but when we walked into the deserted restaurant we were greeted by a member of staff who couldn’t wait to tell us that the restaurant closed at 2pm!

Returned to Ovisher after a few months away on travel to find its food and service remain consistently lovely. Banquet Night is brilliant.

This was a very convenient restaurant.I could walk from where I was staying. Great atmosphere,good menu and food well cooked and presented.Served by friendly and helpful staff.Will be going again.

Although I was supposed to be somewhere else for my birthday, plans changed at the last minute. We rang through for a takeaway, which was politely noted and advised it would be 30-40 minutes. Dinner was ready on time and served piping hot with an array of flavours and spices. Delicious, succulent chicken in each dish made for lots of happy guests and clean plates tonight. Thanks for rescuing my birthday bash and for that lovely glass of wine. You've gained a dozen new regulars tonight, and we're all new to the area. Thanks

I contacted Ovisher to supply our corporate lunch. Without prompting, the manager came up with a recommendation of dishes which really helped in ensuring a variety was ordered to cater for 40 people. After concluding on the order, they kindly delivered it to our offices on time, and when we opened up the order, they were generous in their portions. Most importantly, the food was delicious and loved by many. Thank you for your service!

It was a first visit for us and my first impression was good and they appeared top heavy with waiting staff. My wife who walked in first was ignored and the member of staffed addressed me only (Bit weird in this day & age). Our waiter initially must have been new and had no conception that there was more than one variety of white wine which a manager resolved thankfully. Food was fine as good as any other restaurant but not remarkable. My main gripe was we asked for the bill and it took half an hour to finally pay. I resorted to getting up to find the manager who curtly told me to sit down and wait. It was obvious at this point that despite the number of staff they had lost the plot and were disorganised. Would we go back again - unsure at the moment. Three out of five for the food and price.

We ordered a takeaway from this place, as we opened it, it became apparent that we had more than we had ordered, but as only one item was labelled, it wasn’t clear. We have just had such a rude call from them, asking why we hadn’t called to tell them. We are about 15 minutes drive from the restaurant and had opened them- they couldn’t have served them to anyone else, they wouldn’t have made a 30 minute journey to collect them, yet they effectively accused us of theft for ‘chowing down on the extra food as it was free’! So rude and unnecessary...and entirely their fault. When we looked at our order in detail afterwards, we had been overcharged by £3 too.. sent them a photo of the additional food- completely untouched

Food was served promptly and staff were delightful. Really surprised at how the staff engage with you and make you feel very comfortable, not to mention that every dish that I tried were common dishes at many other indian restaurants however the food here had that extra delicacy which was very much appreciated. Excellent service, excellent food, at my new favourite indian restaurant.

Really lovely food, good service, reasonably priced. It’s easy to make a booking on line as well. Someone called me back the same day, even when I changed the booking. I’d definitely visit again.

Lovely meal one night, when we felt cold on an early Autumn weekend, smiling service, and a delicious Chicken Korma with peshwari nan bread and fresh poppadums. Yum!

Gorgeous food - a real treat after a long drive down from North Wales. I opted for the Fish Bhuna Curry with Sag Rice (spinach rice) whilst my partner has Chicken Balti Tandoori, special rice and keema naan - he said the Balti had a lovely sour zest about it which he’d never tasted before in a Balti so a new experience for him. We ate every scrap of food on our plates and could have licked them clean had we been allowed.

There are numerous places in Kidlington to have Indian based food. I never used to go to Ovisher. From the outside it looks like a stereotypical Indian restaurant. So we've eaten in all the others before, and after numerous average meals we finally try Ovisher. First time was actually via takeaway delivery, food arrived within an hour. If memory serves me well, the food was excellent and we still have takeaway most weeks. On occasion we make the journey to the restaurant, service is good, food is good, and beer is good. Only downside is there might not be any free parking left and I have to sacrifice a couple pounds to the parking deity. Going on a Tuesday is great, discount day.....

We visit this restaurant at least once a month. It’s a very good value no nonsense Indian restaurant. Food is always good and the staff are lovely. The restaurant is always very clean.

Arrived at 7pm on a quiet Sunday for a family meal. Questioned endlessly about whether we had booked despite an empty restaurant. Given a table begrudgingly by staff who didn't seem to care about us. Food very slow although tasted good. Really poor service by unprofessional waiters. No atmosphere at all. Left a tip out of duty but wish I hadn't! Will not return!

We had a lovely family meal at The Ovisher last night.

We travel to a lot of locations in our touring caravan and always find a local Indian restaurant and have visited the Ovisher several times, my wife had a chicken tikka rogan, which she described as the best she has eaten ever. Very nice meal all round

Regular visitors, always excellent food - banquet night is a winner and excellent value. Service always prompt and friendly.

We normally order takeaways from here, but decided to visit as a family. Excellent friendly and attentive service. Well presented food with an allergy menu available if required. Good parking. Ignore any negative reviews. Recommended.

To be fair the meal we had was tasty, but by no means anything special. The service however was lacking slightly. We initially got the menus really quickly but then waited a while to place our order. We had to order drinks twice as one of the waiters forgot to bring them as we could see him clearing other tables. Once we ate we asked for the bill to which no one came to take our payment so had to pay at the bar.

First of all I really don't like to write reviews like this but I Went to this place and must say the food is ok... why is it a 1 star ?? .... waiter dropped a full pint all over me their attitude stunk to the point of the waiter saying it was my Fault..... then the staff having a go and asking us to leave just because we were having a civil conversation about the bill.... Paid up left and will not go back...... sorry chaps but leave this place well alone plenty of better places in Kidlington to go

Best tandoori chicken tikka, very tender and so tasty. Husbands veg rogan Josh also very good. Great service in and out in under an hour with one course.

Really good quality food with very generous portions! Been here multiple times and have always had an amazing meal. Banquet Night allows for a large amount of food at an extremely reasonable price and is great to take friends or family to.

I get together every few months with friends to play poker, and the Ovisher provide perfect food for a bunch of us with different tastes and big appetites! We all feel full, very happy and ready to play! Thanks Ovisher!

We went for dinner at 7:30pm, a table of 6. The service was extremely slow, and the waiters (particularly one) very abrupt and unfriendly. I ordered one bottle of wine and 4 glasses, as we would rather drink a small glass of cold wine each, then order another cold bottle later. The waiter said, quite rudely "one bottle not enough for 4". I confirmed that yes we only wanted one bottle for now. He seemed angered by this, and poured 3 full glasses and a dribble if the 4th, then looked at me like "I told you so". I am fully aware that 1 bottle only serves 4 large glasses, but am staggered that someone cannot pour four equal glasses from one bottle!!

Lots of choice..friendly service..most importantly delicious food...and relaxed atmosphere... I have been here a few times and I am defiantly a 'fan' and will defiantly go back again

We booked to go on a Tuesday for the banquet night, which was very busy with a good atmosphere. It's very good value. We had a nice table by the window. My friend is gluten free, and they where very helpful with the menu choosing the right options. It was also her Birthday and they made it special putting a banner up wishing her a happy Birthday and singing happy birthday to her with a cake. All of us really enjoyed our meal and the evening. I just discovered ovisher a few weeks ago but I'm ashamed to say that I have ordered it about six times since then. Always amazing quality and made quite quickly and when delivered it's delivered hot. The only thing that they need to sort out is a direct credit/debit card payment method on their website as when you order take out it's a lot easier on their website. The smaller Indian takeouts all have card facilities on their websites so I'm sure this place could do it as well.

Exactly what you expect from an Indian restaurant. Local and friendly service with a wide range of choices on the menu.

My wife and I have been coming to the OvisherTandoori for 15 years. It only gets better and better. It always offered good, tasty food with friendly service, and now it has been refurbished, does it even better in the new surroundings.

Really good food at a reasonable price, ovisher is one of the best Indian style restaurants in Kidlington, with polite staff and good quality food, I can find nothing to complain about except my favorite dish no longer being on the menu, but that happened some time ago

Very dissapointing meal. The food was just about acceptable (although worse than other Oxford Indian restaraunts) but the staff were poor, although at least one of the waitors was curteous.Service was slow, staff forgot some orders and had to be reminded to bring missing items.Staff showed inadequate respect for personal space of customers, often reaching over and on top of them.At the end of the meal, a bill arrived that was unitemized and charging GBP25 more than should have been charged. When questioned about this, the waitor was at first not willing to give an itemized bill, and had to be pushed to explain the costs.There was then a problem with the card machine - which the waitor insited due to a wrong pin, but I was able to draw cash out of the atm outside the restaraunt using the same pin. I suspect this is a restaraunt that would prefer to recieve cash payments that are harder to track than card payments. Lack of manners but beyond that, I hope the authorities look into the questionnable business practices of this restaraunt. If you go there, please check the bill before paying.
