Our Plaice in Bromsgrove

Terrible quality of produce, dry, unappetising, expensive, miserable staff. Always been the same I gave it another chance and was disappointed again - I don’t know how it remains open. Absolutely atrocious

This place has become shocking. Been a couple times lately and it is so poor. Old Kingswinford Chippy is the one to go to now, even if it is further. Portion size is a child’s portion and that is for regular sizes. Price is expensive for what it is now and certainly won’t be going back there anytime soon after this latest fiasco. Absolutely shocking place. How can you charge high prices and everything be so poor from the service to the food.

The portions were inconsistent, mainly the chips were on the small side, and the batter was on this occasion soggy, this was the last straw. We called to let them know and that was a waste of time. The only positive is the staff are friendly, but not worth the money.

Awful service- staff were rude and didn’t want to be there. Poor food- chips were soggy and cold. Wouldn’t return in a million years

Worst Chippy in the country This establishment is simply awful, staff couldn’t look less interested if they tried, chips were dryer than the Sahara, even after they were drenched in vinegar, there’s no way they use real potatoes. As well as the prices being through the roof the wait was long and they got the order wrong. Will never be returning even if I was held at gun point to. Genuinely don’t come here.

Stopped at lunchtime on Saturday 2nd September ordered one portion of fish and chips fish was freshly cooked £9 .took home to eat plenty for two people best fish and chips in this area.

Called for a special order told couldn’t no explanation. Person answering phone was discourteous and unhelpful. She asked her manager who also just Said no. I asked for an explanation and was told people don’t turn up. I went somewhere else who were more accommodating in the area.

Gone downhill !!! 9 times out of 10 we have enjoyed fish and chips from here . Today the worst ever . The chips were very dry and hard and the fish very small . Very disappointed.

Wow! Lovely fish and chips fried in beef dripping. We travel to this shop especially from wordsley for a special treat. Well worth the extra distance. Beef dripping better than glyphosate soaked rape seed oil. Keep up the good work and we’ll keep coming.

Tried the shop again after approx 6 months away and found the portion sizes to be a joke, the fish was the size of a minnow and unless you get a large portion of chips there is not enough. The staff was very polite and friendly but the cost is over £20 for two portions with mushy peas. But I will say the fish was well cooked, just small

Gotta say probably the best donner I’ve ever had & chips were excellent but most of all service was superb. Young girl who served me was chatty & attentive. All in all a 5 star experience. Well done to all involved I’ll be back

I ordered 4x mini fish and chips with sauce at 5 pm. Shop was not very busy but took 30mins from order for food to be handed over. Very disappointed with the quality of the chips. Greasy and dry. Fish was average.

Inconsistent at best one night great the other rubbish, threw most away as the chips seemed to be a day old, please keep a standard up not just now and again!!!

After the significant increase in demand for veggie and vegan food everywhere Our Plaice still do not offer anything vegetarian or vegan and still do not tell you everything is cooked in animal fat unless you ask. Traditional Fish and chips does not always mean to everyone that products are cooked in animal fat, be straight with your customers Our Plaice and advertise that you are not veggie or vegan friendly. Such a shame as you would have many more customers if you offered a more varied menu and it seems obvious that you are deceiving some of your customers who think the chips or the haloumi and chips are veggie.

Absolutely terrible yet again!! After giving them another chance from a bad experience about 12 months ago. We got dry chicken and a gluten free fish that was burnt and inedible!! Already had a free meal after complaining before but it’s just not worth it!! £10.30 for a small GF fish and chips and nearly all the fish went in the bin. I’m coeliac and after eating a tiny amount of burnt fish, definitely cross contamination occurred after a cramping stomach! Very disappointed, avoid especially if you have allergies.

Why why why did I go there!!!!!! What “possibly” used to be considered the “Best”, now without doubt is the worst over rated chips I’ve ever tasted, in fact, i threw them in the bin. I struggled to appoint one star for the overpriced amount of less than minimum portion, in fact, £1:70 for a cone of chips which is not!!! Is totally outrageous as they were just bits of potatoes and not cut chips Accordingly.

Living in Hagley I visit Our Plaice very often. I love it here the food is always of good quality, and the staff always friendly.

What a fantastic service and excellent food. I've used the place - excuse the pun but every time, I enjoyed and so did my wife. I've just moved from the South East and lunched or dined in the best restaurants in London. I travel abroad just for a certain restaurant. People complaining about the chips have no idea how to get a soft inner and crispy outer!

If you fancy a change from a hog roast then do consider Our Plaice outside catering . Very easy to organise , reasonable price and superb fish and chips . They arrived on time , provided everything that was needed and the 2 guys that cooked and served the food were excellent . All our guests were full of compliments . Would definitely use again .

Visited for our family meal this evening. Not our usual chip shop, as we were traveling through the area. The fish and chips we all had were delicious. The experience was enhanced by the excellent customer service received from both the young girls serving. Would highly recommend.

I have visited many a time and each meal is either good or average! Having lived on the south coast and fortunate to have lots of establishments to choose from, I suppose it is popular due to being the only one in Hagley!

I booked the Our Plaice van to cater for 160 people for an outside evening event. The van turned up at the exact time requested and was ready to serve, again at the exact time requested, but with flexibility as were we running a bit late. As I walked around the event, I heard nothing but praise for the food! The chefs on the van were an absolute credit to the company - really friendly, polite and professional in every way! I have already re-booked for next year!

We’re lucky to have this chippy nearby. We appreciate the crispy batter, and usually very freshly cooked fish and chips.

We booked the mobile truck for our daughters wedding. Greg was so professional and the fish & chips were fabulous. We had so many great comments about the food truck idea and how lovely the fish & chips were!

We booked Our Plaice to come in their mobile fish and chip van to our offices and provide lunch for 40 guests from all over the world. They did an amazing job, the fish and chips were delicious, all cooked fresh on site and they were able to serve all 40 guests in good time. All guests thoroughly enjoyed the British fish and chip experience!

So on a recent trip to my companies HQ in Halesowen and having passed this “Plaice” many times, I decided it was about time I called in and tried some.

Thought we would try this chip shop as hadn't been for a long time now I know why, as I won't be going back! I had cod and chips well where to start , the fish was really thin as you can see in the picture shown and the portion of chips were the smallest I have ever had. My wife chose just to have a portion of chips well the portion was again very small she had to have a ham sandwich with them just to make her meal more filling!!! Don't know what it is with chip shops these days and the portion sizes! I will start cooking my own in future at least I will get the quality then. Would be interesting to see what the management would have to say when they see these pictures and review ????

Our Plaice is inconsistent which is why I'm saying its just OK. I went in a few days ago at lunchtime and ordered fish & chips and peas. The fish was served from the warm tray and when i got it home it was very dry indeed. The chips were scrappy with lots of end bits and were not very warm. I think I paid £7.80 or thereabouts and ended up not eating all of it as the fish was too dry and the chips needed warming up. For the cost, the size of the fish is small. All in all, I've given up on OP as its hit and miss. I use it because its very local but I do think there are several better chip shops in the area that offer not only better food but better value.

We were celebrating a family event last Friday and decided to order fish and chips for everyone attending.

Ordered mixture of 85 portions of fish or chicken and chips for an event at our Village Hall last month. They suggested that I pick up the sauces and utensils on the afternoon which worked extremely well as we could distribute them before the food came. Bang on 8.30 p.m., as requested, they arrived. Every portion was in individual polystyrene contains and very hot. The fish were good size and the chips just the right consistency. This is the fourth time we have used Our Plaice and their service is excellent. Highly recommended.

I suppose the price you pay for living in Hagley is reflected in the cost of fish and chips!

Food is very expensive but usually good quality. However I have returned home with items missing on a number of occasions now which is annoying and frustrating particularly when you’ve paid for them! Today I got home to find I had been charged for an extra fish I didn’t order and some curry sauce that wasn’t in the bag Can’t be bothered to go back so quite unimpressed. Didn’t enjoy the fish today either, it was quite dry (presumably because it was quiet and had been there a while). Overall if you check your order, are prepared to queue and pay over the odds for chips you won’t be disappointed!

We have ordered fish and chips from our plaice for many years - the food is always good and has won many awards however queuing at popular time may leave you with a half an hour wait and even a ten minute wait when its quiet as theres not always fish ready to go. The food is horrendously expensive compared to other non award winning chippys.

We again used Our Plaice in Hagley for our Scout Groups event, this is the 3rd time, the food was again excellent with positive comments from everyone. it was delivered on time & was still hot. Will be back for our next event

We use Our Plaice on a fairly regular basis. It’s a popular local, and serves excellent, freshly prepared fish and chips.

We hired Our Plaice fish and chip van to cater for 100 guests at our marquee wedding. Gregg and Caroline were so friendly throughout and did a site visit to ensure their van could navigate its way down a narrow, bumpy track. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the food (sausage, fish, halloumi, chips, salad were offered along with jacket potatoes) and even those who don't normally like fish and chips commented on how delicious the batter was! They provided meals for gluten free and our dairy free guests also. Our Plaice provided boxes, cutlery and condiments and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Not been here for a few years now until a few days ago. Had some really great fish and chips, top quality food really well cooked, well worth a visit.

Had fish and chips here on Wednesday and had to throw the fish away it was that awful. Years ago this place was amazing but every time we give it one more try it disappoints.

Always get fantastic fish & chips here. Not the cheapest but it’s worth paying for the quality. Decent portion sizes too. Mushy peas awesome too.

We were told earlier in the day to ring our order through as I need gluten free & it would be ready to collect. When we arrived we still had to wait in the massive queue. What a complete waste of time!

Unquestionably the best fish and chips I have eaten in the Midlands, the service is first class but you need to be prepared to wait, due to its popularity. Easy to find on the main road through Hagley.

We usually have good fish & chips but today they were awful. I dont know where they get the potatoes but a lot of them were black and inedible. Some were not even cooked properly. This a shame as they are usually pretty good.

Went in tonight on a busy Friday evening to order some food, lots of fresh food being cooked and the owner was happily frying behind the range and talking to the customers whilst they queued. Warm and professional staff members were happy to take my order and for me to come back and collect 15 minutes later. Great portion sizes and food was cooked to perfection. Crispy batter on the fresh Cod and well cooked chips. Chicken Tikka meat with a mixed salad was delicious and well presented. Great value for money and a very happy family. Perfect way to warm up on a chilly February evening. Thanks Our Plaice for keeping standards so high and your customers happy!

Bought cod and chips and very disappointed with the quality of the chips which were cold, scrappy and some were clearly re-cooked-won’t return. The young staff were very polite but the fryer was obviously having a bad night

Visited this evening, no queue, but staff were clueless, no salad for kebab or fish as previously advertised. Staff young and clueless. Curry sauce cold and lumpy, chips just bad. Upset had to prepare own salad after deciding to have takeaway. On the plus side the southern fried chicken was good, but very expensive for 3 pieces much cheaper at KFC. Will not be returning.

I'm a bit fussy about fish and chips. First time I tried Our Plaice in Hagley, having been many times to their long established shop in Halesowen.

Not too impressed, for the money I was expecting a top quality taste experience.
