We were told we could only have the table for 90 minutes. After waiting 45 minutes with no food we were ready to walk out, but the food came after 50 minutes. We had to chase the food and watch whilst others who arrived after us were served before us. Our waitress wasnt interested. The big boss man came and apologised, but didnt offer us any olives or nibbles to keep us going. The food was nice, really tasty, but we wouldnt return because of the service.

We used to love Ottolenghi but this time all 3 of us got food poisoning from take away salads (eggplant, beet root, bean pate) from the takeaway deli bar. We purchased them at 5pm, and perhaps takeaway is not popular at that time of day. I suspect they’d been sitting out all afternoon, forgotten after the lunch rush. The restaurant manager was responsive to my complaint the following day, but their “investigation “ determined they did nothing wrong. And yet… we had full blown food poisoning symptoms as well as follow-on health effects (rash) that still plague more than a week later.

This was our third time lunching at Ottolenghi Spitalfields. The food and service got progressively worse with each visit. They took over half an hour to serve premade salads. The attention to detail was also lacking. One of the salads I chose was hispi cabbage; it had massive leaves on my plate that were too tough to cut into. The aubergine was dripping with grease. And the rice wasn't any better than packet rice. Even the dessert took forever. We ordered a chocolate chip cookie after lunch and it took ten minutes to arrive. You'd think it would take no more than a minute to fetch a cookie already sitting on the dessert table. They didn't even bother warming it up. They also messed up the coffee by getting the espresso-to-milk ratio wrong. Worst of all, the food really didn't agree with us. We left feeling really bloated and unwell. Probably from all the grease. Safe to say, there will not be a fourth visit from us.

We had a pleasant evening with some great aspects but a few drawbacks as well. The food was well-prepared and presented nicely, and I have no complaints about the taste—it was flavorful and thoughtfully crafted. However, the portions felt small for the price, especially given the simplicity of ingredients. For instance, £13 (plus service charge) for a dish with five baby leeks, some mixed nuts, herbs, and sauce seemed steep. The wine, too, was priced on the higher side. Service was excellent, and the staff were attentive, which we appreciated. However, the atmosphere didn’t quite match the occasion; the bright lighting detracted from a cozy or romantic feel, making it feel more like a quick-serve setting than a relaxed dinner spot. Overall, we had a nice night, but given the price point, we’ve had more memorable experiences elsewhere in the area.

Surprisingly, really poor for the price point. All of the savory dishes taste very similar due to profound over usage of Za'atar, and lack of salt (and pepper) ..Salt grinders are useless you either get too much or nothing at all ..Every dessert was heavy and stodgy, and either significantly too sweet or profoundly sickly sweet without any depth of flavour; and the Macadamia white chocolate cookie was significantly too salty.. Match of the food is out on display, at the ideal height for people to spread their germs over. Overall poor quality food, poor service and surprisingly expensive.. Really not recommended.

Excellent food. Nice welcome and introduction to the menu. Relaxed atmosphere. The dishes were served too fast in the beginning (kind of starters). Mostly friendly service (for one female server just one tip: it would be nice to communicate with the guest when serving instead of putting the dishes on the table from the guest‘s back with no word….) Very loud and very busy during dinner time. Great location.

Ambience was nice with candle being lighted with dimmed lighting, but noise was too loud, making it hard to hold conversations. Aubergine reminded me of Georgian food, moussaka was quite salty, not really a fan of it. Cod was a little tough but tasted good. Service was excellent - the fruit wine and hibiscus cocktail was not bad.

I was keen to try the restaurant as I had eaten a couple of his recipes. My brother was visiting London for some filming so I arranged lunch for 2 on a Friday at 12.30pm. Entering the restaurant you transfer into a calm and spacious dining area. There was a warm welcome and once shown to the table the waiter was there with a smile and helpful disposition. A short while later we had placed our food order. The food was a symphony of delight for the taste buds. The cocktails were excellent and with the help of the waiter I chose one that went well with the food I had chosen. Excellent food, excellent staff and an excellent atmosphere. A beautiful lunch and consequently a successful day.

Ottolenghi food is vibrant, colorful, and Mediterranean-inspired, with a strong influence from Middle Eastern flavors. He uses a blend of vegetables, herbs, and spices, alongside grains like couscous, bulgur, and lentils. Ottolenghi‘s dishes are creative in using ingredients, including like tahini, pomegranate, sumac, and za’atar, often paired with rich textures like roasted vegetables, grilled meats, and fresh salads. Took my sister who is vegan and she had plenty of choices. As always Ottolenghi food didn’t let us down. The plates are small and prices are ££ but for me it was worth every penny.

I’ve been an Ottolenghi fan for years and was very willing to take a long cab ride to get to this restaurant. The food and service were good but our experience was marred because the manager would not allow staff to call a cab for us to return to our hotel. Delicious food, with an explosion of flavours. Loved the chicken shawarma topped with almond crumble, with its crusty and flaky outer layer with tender juicy chicken inside. For salads, loved both the roasted Aubergine with yogurt and pomegranate, and the roasted cauliflower. Apple vanilla cake recommended by the staff was good too. We were here on a Monday afternoon for lunch. It wasn’t too crowded, but felt their service was slow. We waited for more than 25 mins until our food was served, especially when the salads are picked off the shelf and not made afresh for every order. The place also felt surprisingly loud, and we couldn’t hear each other across the table. I would recommend the place purely for the food, not if you prefer a peaceful intimate dining experience.

Sadly, the atmosphere does not meet the quality of the food. The food is absolutely delicious and worth the price as a treat for oneself. Indeed, the plates are rather small but the explosion of flavour with each bite make you forget how little there is. It is surprisingly filling, for three people we ordered 5 of these dishes and were satiated. However, the experience is dampened by the agressive white lighting, the careless staff and the loudness in the restaurant. It felt more like a food court than a fine dinning establishment. Definitely not the ideal place for an intimate dinner. The staff bring the food fast but don't check up on you or pay attention to the details (we were missing cutlery, given paper napkins rather than the cloth ones and had difficulty getting their attention). Overall, go for the food not for a pleasant night out.

This was our third of three Ottolenghi meals in 26 hours. It was great! The restaurant is noisy, but we scoped it out ahead of time and there is an alcove near the entryway with one kidney bean shaped table for six (a communal table) and four chairs at a counter. If noise matters to you, you need to call ahead and ask if those are available. The roasted aubergine (w coconut tahini, masala onions, and carmelized cashews) and roasted cauliflower (yoghurt, pine nuts, red onion, and sultanas) were delicious and came soon after ordering (they were served room temp). The lamb kebabs (spicy!) and manti (little beef filled pockets in a yoghurt and pine nut burnt butter sauce) were also great. Such varied and rich flavors! Unlike our meal at Nopi, this food came out with excellent pacing, such that we could have the clafoutis and a glass of Tokai for dessert, for a relaxed finish to the meal. Service was great. A delightful evening. Sorry! Only photographed the manti when it was almost gone! Cost includes two carafes of wine and that Tokai.

Had a lunch about 2pm on 19/7/24 which was delicious! Always love the food here! Walked in and asked for a table. Guy on front desk was lovely and accommodated us. Had some good chat with him too! We were served by an eastern European lady who was courteous but abrupt. That's fine. Ordered set menu lunch and tap water. She didn't seem impressed. When it came to pay, I mentioned the service charge and said ok, fine, I'll leave no tip. Bill was £66.38 with service charge. The card receipt came out the machine, the lady ripped it off and just dropped it on the table, turned round and walked off. No 'thank you' or anything. Thought this was pretty rude. Don't get me wrong, I didn't want her to kiss my shoes or anything! It's just damn rude. Maybe she was expecting more of a tip. The place wasn't exactly full and we didn't need that much service. Long time fans of Ottolenghi, first time at one of his restaurants. I'm not gonna spend too many words on the food (which was average, but our expectations were probably way too high) or the pricing (we ended up paying more than 60£ each for 5 plates - only one had meat, pork - and a 375ml carafe of wine, which felt a bit overpriced). What we found disrespectful was the overall service: we booked a table at 9.15 pm, and they say you can keep your table for 2 hours for dinner. Except that starting from 10pm every single member of the staff (and there were a lot) started prepping for closure time, cleaning the counter, setting the tables and generally making a lot of things that you would expect a restaurant to do with doors closed and no customers inside. Instead we spent at least 10 minutes with a stack of napkins laying on the table next to ours while a guy (who I presume is the head waiter) gave orders to the rest of the staff. We paid and left, with the staff not even saying goodbye back to us. The only exception would be the waitress who got our orders, who took her time to explain the menu to us and checked on us a few times. Maybe it was just a night off, but we're definitely disappointed.

I wanted to love this place. I’ve had the cookbooks for years. However, I felt the execution was off. Very strong flavors. And the texture for my lunch was gooey, mushy, slimy — choose your adjective. I expected a simpler more harmonious palate, but, alas, it felt to me like a hodgepodge of excellent cafeteria items. Indeed the portions were quite small for the price BUT having had the salads as well we left filling super full, which I’m putting down to super high quality ingredients. Gor three people, we had 2x chicken shawarma and lamb kebab, the butter bean mash salad, 2x aubergine salad and lime and poppy slaw. My partner and I recently enjoyed a phenomenal lunch at Ottolenghi Spitalfields, and it was truly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Despite not having a booking, the staff were fantastic, making us feel very welcome from the moment we walked in. Their warm hospitality set the tone for a wonderful dining experience. We shared four salads from the lunch menu: the roasted aubergine with coconut tahini, the char-grilled broccoli with chili and garlic, the butter bean mash with roasted peppers and fennel seeds, and the roasted sweet potatoes with labneh and harissa. Each dish was bursting with fresh flavors, and the combination of textures was simply outstanding. Despite being completely satisfied with the salads, we couldn’t resist sharing a slice of their carrot and walnut cake. It was so moist and flavorful that it felt like the perfect ending to our meal. Overall, the service at Ottolenghi restaurants has declined considerably, but nothing compares to the horrendous experience at the Spitalfields location. I was reluctant to go as last time was painful already, but I had a friend visiting who wanted to, so I was mentally prepared for the bad service awaiting for me, but even so I was surprised! The whole staff have terrible attitudes, starting with the very unfriendly host and extending to every single waiter. Drinks took almost 30 minutes to arrive, and the same went for the food. Important details: 80% of our order was salad, which is all ready at the front bar. We were asked to move tables whilst we were still eating, and when I mentioned the food took too long to arrive, the waiter snapped back, saying they had to work on our order (prawns allergy) and that it was my fault. It also took them three attempts to explain the same menu to me. It's an incredibly overstaffed place with bad management. You can see the mess their own staff causes, constantly bumping into each other, pushing for space at the reception and dessert bar – when they're not pushing customers! I wouldn't bother getting a table. food is good, get a takeaway and go elsewhere, that way you also don't pay for the service which they clearly don't deserve.

Thought I would try the legend and was happy I did. They deserve a Michelin star both for creativity and execution

Table wasn't ready when we arrived for the booked time, no waiting area and hostess didn't even apologize for making us wait by standing around in their shop. Very poor experience

Went here for dinner with my wife as a special meal. Booked it 8 months in advance and had been given the voucher 18months prior to that so I was hoping for the best. Arrived and were showen to a two seater table that was very busy with staff walking past which was fine they need to walk about. Managed to change to a seat against the wall which was better but seemed like a hassle to move. Got excited over the menu, despite already looking at it on line but I was excited. Took 10mins to get someone to take a drinks order and that was because we stopped a member of staff. Also ordered some pitta chips as I knew we were on for the long haul! Next up trying to order food, despite some unknown ingredients on the menu we were told nothing about the dishes. Again managed to catch a member of staff on her way past us and she kindly explained. Also managed to order a glass of wine. Main courses arrived and they were exceptional but took a while as it was busy so my wife asked for a a taster of wine to see what she liked. This wasn’t an issue but when they arrived someone then tried to take them. Eventually my wife complained about the lack of service and it being poor and the manager came over to make sure it was all ok which it wasn’t. Service remained poor so instead of staying for dessert or another drink we left. The bill came with service included and when we questioned this the manager said it was up to us to decide if it should be taken off!! We left disappointed, in fact we had also booked breakfast for the Sunday which we cancelled. Took the shine off a meal that we had been really looking forward to by a chef we love. Can’t say we will be back.

The food was good but the fire alarm went off multiple times for false alarms and left me with a ringing headache. They should improve ventilation in the kitchen and check if the firm alarms work properly. When we got the bill the full service charge of 12.5% was applied which is honestly a bit much. If other restaurants have bad things happen they offer at least to reduce the service charge. I shouldn't have to ask in situations like this.

Beautiful, delicious food, honestly can't fault the food or drinks, or the wait staff trust served our food and drinks. The lady who welcomed me however, made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I was 7 minutes early. I arrived at 7.53pm for an 8pm booking. Out table , I'm told , isn't yet available, the people are finishing soon I'm told. But I see the table ,it's empty. I asked if I can sit at the bar for a drink while I wait for my friends, I see 3 seats at the bar available. I'm told no sorry the bar is fully booked. So against the window there is 1 free seat available between 2 people either side, I happily take this seat while I wait for my table to become available. From the window I see my friend has turned up, I go back to the same person, tell her my friend is here and has no where to sit, since our table is not yet ready I ask if we can both just stand in the lobby . I'm told no. We can't. It is not 7.56pm. our reservation is for 8pm. I know the table is empty. I ask what would she like to do? She says "you are early for your booking, your table is not yet ready because the guests have not yet left (not true), like I said you can go to a pub and come back to us when it is the correct time". Honestly I felt like crying. It was 4 minutes. I am British Pakistani, clearly not white,I hate, HATE, thinking this but I can't help but wonder if would have been treated differently if I wasn't.

The food was great but the service was really disappointing throughout the meal the servers seemed really overstretched and it was very hard to make an order or pay. They apologized when we complained but it would make us think twice about going back.

Get the chicken shawarma. Just do it. It’s one of the best pieces of chicken you’ll ever eat. I’d also suggest trying the Korab Saint Laurent wine if they happen to have it on the menu when you go. Pricey for the portion size, but the food is excellent in general.

We had a delicious lunch yesterday, and I have to say that the service was amazing. We were looked after by Sourabh, who made our visit very special. He realised we were celebrating our daughter’s birthday and made her feel special. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful restaurant! Julie

We had a wonderful evening last night, celebrating three birthdays. The food was fabulous/delicious, and the service was excellent. We could not fault either the food or the service. A very big thank you to charming Spanish waiter Zdenek, who worked extremely hard to look after our table of 8. All the staff were delightful. We will be back. Amanda Hanley by Design.

Awesome place with great food and fantastic sweets from the shop inside the restaurant. The best thing is that you can order desserts from the shop when having a meal in the restaurant.

£80 for a very simple, mostly pre-prepared lunch for two is excessive. First and last time I will visit Ottolenghi's. Lunch was a cooked dish eg seabream or lamb kebeb accompanied by 'two salads'. The quality of the cooked dishes was good. Likewise the salads, just dished up from large bowls sitting in the delicatessen. Portions were not particularly generous. I have to admit there was a lighter touch here to the food compared for example some Turkish, Lebanese, Persian restaurants I'm familiar with. However these prices are not worth the hype. On a positive note, service was excellent.

One of the few restaurants that serves both cocktails and Vietnamese food. The atmosphere is fantastic, the food is delicious, and the servers are friendly – I think I'll be coming here often.

Atmosphere is where is its at for The Pride. Small, close, wood and warm. Got a pint for 5 pounds, which is a bonus. Tight sueeze at 5:30 on a weekday with after with the after work crowd, but there's always space outside.

Selection of an incredible number of gins. There is a menu or you tell the bartender which flavor you prefer and you get something really good :-)

Tienen muchas tapas, incluyendo algunas que nunca habíamos oído hablar, pero la camarera pacientemente nos explicó todo. La comida era excelente, pero todo viene en pequeños tamaños.
