Otters is a cosy restaurant in a quaint old village setting but boasts a modern and thoughtful menu. My husband had mussels in a Thai flavoured sauce as a starter and lamb rack as a main. I had honeyed goats cheese as a starter and beetroot tart tatin as a main. All four dishes were carefully prepared and plated with really interesting flavours - the addition of just the right choice and amount of herbs really complimented each dish. This rounded off with unobtrusive but attentive service made for a lovely evening. Thanks for having us!

Visited Otters on several occasions, always with my grandparents who live in Deddington, and always have a lovely meal. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the food is consistently good. Even though the menu for lunch consists of only a few dishes, it caters for many dietary requirements (eg veggie, gf) and, as a vegetarian, has always got a good dish on offer! Have never had a bad meal when I've visited!

We had a really super evening here with a couple of visiting friends. Mike, the owner, is the chef and also managed front of house when we were here. The menu was excellent with a good range of choices and suited both the meat eaters and vegetarians in our little party. The portions are extremely generous, the dishes imaginative, fresh and all home made. This restaurant is a delightful gem and Mike was a charming host. Thank you, we look forward to returning.

I have been visiting Otters ever since it opened and should have reviewed it years ago. I have just arrived home from an excellent leisurely Sunday lunch with friends. We all enjoyed our meal enormously, cooked as usual to perfection. Michael is very good at dealing with allergies and food intolerances and all tastes were catered for. The Tarte Tatin was to die for and looked so good that the two friends who ordered it felt they should not spoil the art by eating it!. A small menu but all well chosen choices with something for everybody and very good value. Thank you Michael.

Otter's is the restaurant of choice for a couple of the language groups in which I participate. We go fo lunch on an occasional basis and I cannot fault the welcome and service that we receive from Mike and his staff. We visited Otters last weekend to meet up with family for lunch. We had read previous reviews; all excellent, and so decided to try it. We were not disappointed. We all had various starters, I had the mushroom soup, that was a meal in itself, and was delicious. We had a variety of main course and everyone enjoyed them - the salmon with watercress sauce was particularly enjoyable. The service itself was great. I can thoroughly recommend this fine restaurant; it will not be our last visit!

It was a Thursday evening and I was staying in Deddington, Oxfordshire, and due to play golf the following day. Some good friends of mine live close by and we arranged to meet for supper. I chose Otters as it was adjacent to the hotel I was staying in. It is a small establishment and has been going for at least 15 years under the current owner, so that speaks volumes about a restaurant.

Otters is in a wonderful market town in Oxfordshire and looks like it should be a great place to eat. Unfortunately the food is terrible. The starter of pate was almost certainly bought from a supermarket and the main course of fish was as rubbery and tasteless as anything I have eaten for quite a while. I declined the desert and decided to have coffee at home just in case. I shall not be returning.

We regularly meet friends and family in Deddington as it's half way between where we live and Milton Keynes where our friends and family live. We have tried most places there and they've all been pretty good. Then we discovered Otters (thinking it was just an evening restaurant, (but it does open lunchtimes too, apart from Mondays), which is why it's taken us so long to try it). This week we met friends on a Saturday night for dinner. It was wonderful. A small menu which I was worried wouldn't give me much choice as I don't eat red meat, but there were enough choices for me, in fact fish was high on the menu. We all had sardines as a starter in a garlic and tomato sauce which was delicious. The bread rolls were also very fresh and tasty. Then I had a fish stew, as did two of the others, and the other friend had lamb. Our fish dish was excellent, plentiful and tasty and good value for the amount of fish there was. The lamb was apparently beautifully cooked too. The drink prices were very reasonable. The staff were very friendly and professional. We will definitely return and highly recommend it. It also had a nice atmosphere.

Otters has consistently provided excellent food, service and value since it opened over 10 years ago and we always enjoy coming here. We haven't done a review for quite a while and I am delighted to say that our last dinner a couple of weeks ago was perfect in every way. The starters of Parma ham wrapped Mozarella on a refreshing salad of mango, apple and fresh leaves was a stunning mix of tastes and textures and the wild mushrooms in brioche was wonderfully creamy. We then had the fish of the day which was perfectly-cooked succulent sea bass fillets which just melted in the mouth. Finally, our favourite dessert of Summer Pudding (which is usually a pale imitation of the real thing in other restaurants) was a small, intensely fruity, dome of bread and fruit with a proper fruit coulis, just like my grandma used to make and the memory of which has stayed with me all my life. Thank you so much, Mike and Mandy.

This is hands down the best restaurant, not only in Deddington but, I would venture to say, in Oxfordshire and even England. The chef/owner, Michael, is a gracious host who effortlessly (it seems) takes care of his diners with a personal touch that is just right, not imposing. His food is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Price is most reasonable and yet it's fine dining too. It is on 2 floors with a max cover of 34. I have arranged yet another get together of 24 friends later this month and am in the process of arranging a little tea party for 10 elderly neighbours. Not open every daytime or evening it is wise to book ahead as he does get busy. The Sunday lunch is particularly good but you are always asked if you like your beef rare! If not they will attend to your request.Wooden floors, nice wall artwork and lots of window light more so downstairs. Menu changes regularly and prices are 2 courses £12.95 and 3 courses £14.95. Nice selection of wines again reasonable prices. So make an effort to visit for lunch or dinner and sit and look out over the Market Square of this delightful and friendly village. Starters were very nice , I had the wild mushrooms which were really tasty and Debbie had a mozzarella salad with crispy Palma ham , we both had a steak which was cooked perfect and was dry aged which is always the best way to mature steak , only slight critism was the frites I should have ordered triple cooked chips , that said the food , the place and the service was spot on and will defo go again .

This is my fourth or fifth trip to Otters, this time sharing a table with my son. Lovely food, excellent service, and very reasonable. I cannot fault this place.

We had lunch in the Otter restaurant whilst staying in Deddington for the weekend. We were given a warm welcome when we arrived and had a great table by the window overlooking the village. My starter was the avocado, mozzarella and tomato salad which was lovely. For the main course I had salmon and haddock goujons which were cooked to perfection. We resisted a desert but they looked really tasty. My partners meal was also delicious. It's a great little restaurant in a lovely village and well worth a visit.

We found this place one lunchtime by chance a few weeks ago. We had no reservation (as we had no idea where we would be at lunchtime) but a table was no problem. The food was exquisite - different, beautifully prepared and presented, subtly flavoured. A real find and, even though it is a bit off our beaten track, we said we would go again. We tried again at lunchtime today: what a difference. We had just driven 150 miles on a cold, wet windy May morning and were really looking forward to a treat. We had not known when, or even if, we would arrive but didn't anticipate a problem in view of our previous experience. How wrong can you be. An apologetic "I'm sorry but we're fully booked" would have been fine. A brusque "I'm expecting other people for those tables" was completely unacceptable. It is, of course, the proprietor's prerogative to behave as he wishes on his own premises. Equally, it is ours to make sure that, if, as appeared to be the case, unexpected customers are unwelcome, we let those people to whom we had recommended the place, know the latest situation. We won't go again.

Have visited Otters on several occassions & would thoroughly recommend as it never disappoints. There is not a vast menu which is nice as you dont spend ages wondering "what shall I have" Always something that would appeal to most people. Everything cooked to order & always very well presented & always a warm welcome from the owner/chef.Lovely atmosphere in oldy worldy surroundings & situated right in the heart of the village.

Attended for a family birthday party. The food was well cooked, presented and served. Mike & Mandy Whitley were attentive, efficient and pleasant. Everything was cooked as we requested (pink, medium etc), the service was leisurely and we did not feel pressed and we certainly hung around talking. A wonderful atmosphere. Altogether a wonderful evening.

We have been going to Otters a few times a year since it opened seven years ago - our first experience was a lovely Valentines's night dinnerm we have gone as a couple, with family and friends and arranged a couple of large birthday dinner parties. We always receive a warm welcome and the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere. There is a well-balanced menu for dinner and a short lunch menu - both of which are excellent value for money. The dishes contain excellent quality ingredients which are superbly cooked and attractively presented. Finally, we always take our family and friends here because we know we can be sure of having a lovely evening at an affordable price - and all our visitors love it!

We made a special trip to go for lunch here today based on the excellent reviews on trip advisor. The internet says it is open for lunch between 12 & 2pm from Tuesday to Saturday. Today is Wednesday and when we arrived at 12:30pm it was closed. We were not happy. It is a shame as the menu looked good, as did the interior of the place. But if it is not reliable in terms of opening consistently then it is of no use to us (and I imagine many others!). What a let down.

This was our third annual visit to Otters for a family meal, and once again we had an excellent meal with all tastes being catered for from the small but well balanced menu. The warm feta salad starter and the summer pudding (nice and tart, not over sugared) deserve special mention, and the wine list pricing seems unchanged every year. Those of us from London and Manchester find it hard to believe that interesting wines (e.g. Chiliean riesling) can be drunk for around £15 a bottle. The bill for 3 courses each for 7 people and 2 bottles of wine was around £200.I can't believe that it's not full every night when I think how much a similar sized meal would cost in a chain restaurant. We'll be back next year!

What a great place! The standard of food, drink and service are typical of a family- run restaurant with quality in mind. Having been disappointed with lots of the local places we have tried, Otters offers great value for money. The dishes are priced competively and the wine list will not sting the pocket. Marry that to the personal service and there is no doubt, like myself, that you will look forward to your next visit. Just wish I had found this place a long time ago.

These pies are the best! Good variety and it's the second time I've been here. Good value for what you get as you won't be leaving hungry. Choose your pie wisely as you can get food envy if one of your companions lets you try a bit of theirs!

Braise Shoulder lamb was excellent that we had to reorder second round! Confiet duck was great as well. We really enjoy the food here. The place is clean and the service is good. Would go back again.

We had lovely succulent cod in really crispy batter with crispy chips that had a nice soft centre, all with salt and vinegar that you can actually taste! The portions sizes are very generous and all the staff are lovely even at the busiest of times. In our opinion this is the BEST fish n chips in Banbury by far!
