Osteria Italian Restaurant in Kingston upon Hull, City of

We have been meaning to pop in here for a long time, and so glad we did yesterday. We arrived around 2pm so it wasn't too busy. They waitress seated us promptly and after a minute or two, drinks order was taken - these arrived in good time.We went through the menu and placed our order. The food arrived in the time you would expect - well presented, good portions and piping hot. The food was absolutely delicious - some of the nicest we have had. There really is nothing to fault here. The staff are fabulous (prompt, polite and courteous), the food is stunning, very tasty and hot (too many places serve warm food these days which has to go back - but not here) - the prices are excellent. Can't wait to return!!!

We were sceptical about eating in a restaurant that has a captive audience from a hotel. We shouldn't have worried. The food was fantastic and plentiful. We didn't even manage to eat all of our food. Lots of other diners were taking their leftovers home! The staff were welcoming and friendly. We called in on an unusually busy evening, but the staff did everything to make sure we received our food as soon as possible. They were so good, we didn't even realise they were short staffed, even though they apologised for the delay. We will return if ever in Hull again.

It was a birthday a meal and there were 10 of us. Some of us were regulars however it was the first time I’ve been here.So 4 stars for food, it was lovely - starters and mains and for the atmosphere and setting. The only thing that’s was poor was the side salad which was just full of spinach (don’t get it if you want a nice little salad to accompany your meal). I didn’t like that we got asked to stack our empty plates at the end of the table to be taken away (but it’s not a big deal really).I ordered a Pepsi and it tasted very watered down. It took a while to get a anybodys attention to get the Pepsi replaced and then maybe after what was a 10min wait someone came out and said they checked everything and it was all fine. Some of the party got the same drink but I changed mine. The time it took to deal with this and get us our drinks was ridiculous (-1 star)The time for starters to come our and our mains considering we pre-order again was very long compared to other places I have been. (-1star)Also I had to go up and ask them to clear our tables after a while because again they just had us sat there and only checked on us once while we were still eating. Although service was friendly it was so poor and inattentive even when we wanted to order a second rounds of drinks we had to wait a while and the get the attention of a server. This was throughout our whole meal. (-1 star)Additionally I found out at during the meal that when we had to cancel some of the party members due to them having covid the response was quite rude. They had threatened prior to this to have to pay a fee if cancelled with 48 hours. I just think this is a very insensitive way to be during these times. (When comparing to other places I have eaten.) We had a birthday cake for them to bring out with candles and they did that with a guitar and tambarine which was a very lovely touch (+1star) Over all I wouldn’t recommend this place or come back here based on my experience. I do want to stress that the food was lovely and servers were all very friendly but it wasn’t worth the amount of waiting and straining our necks we had to do to get more drinks etc.

6 adults 1 child- 2 birthdays! All members of staff were extremely attentive! Food was absolutely terrific! Manager came and played a song on his guitar and sang happy birthday! Will be returning soon!

We visited recently to celebrate a friends 50th birthday8 of us were seated quickly and ordered drinks which arrived straight away.We had already rung our orders through so there was no delay on that score.The staff were very polite and attentive always checking if everything was ok and if we needed more drinks.We had taken a cake in for our friend and the staff brought it out whilst playing guitar and shaking a tambourine while we all sung happy birthday,a nice gesture.The food was excellent well cooked and presented, all clean empty plates,We would highly recommend easing here and will be visiting again really soon .

Had a table booked. Was told on arrival 'They would see if they could find a table'. Waited over half hour for order to be taken.. Starter good. My main good, companions pizzas not so good. Eventually table cleared and asked if we wanted dessert menu. Still waiting!. Empty wine glasses and bottle cleared and still no sign of menu. Payed and left. Wont be back

We had booked the small function room as we were a party of 20. We pre-ordered the food, which wasn't a problem. Starters were very good indeed, and I can particularly recommend the Gamberoni Albi which was delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly. Main courses were equally nice with a wide variety of Italian food with something everyone enjoyed. Being a large party with some younger children, the privacy of the function room was very welcome. Everyone had a fantastic evening and we're definitely going to return. Many thanks Stefano and your staff.

This has been my stand out go to restaurant for years but aftermy last visit i will start looking elsewhere. It is still a cosy place to get a meal its just lost that something special. I had Ribeye and seasonal veg for mains - the steak was great and cooked perfectly but the accompanying vegitables were noticable only by the lack of them - a real let down - time for a change i think

We thought we’d give Osteria a try. Quite a large place, plenty of staff…. Service not to bad. Food portions good. Hot etc, however the staff need organising as was clearly shown when the owner started getting stressed with them in front of customers. Not a bad experience but not sure we will return

Lovely traditional Italian restaurant. The way Italian pasta should be and vfm too. Quiet when we went but imagine it can get quite lively, will have to return to find out. Host and waitress very attentive and friendly. Thanks for a tasty lunch.

Not been into Hull for a long time. Visiting family, we wanted to eat out. Very pleasant outdoor area with attentive staff.We ordered pizza and pastas and everything was excellent quality. Served hot and delicious. It is a little more expensive than a pub lunch would be but it was worth every penny.

Tonight was my first time eating at Osteria and I was really impressed. The staff were really nice and the food was delicious and great value for money. I will definitely be coming back! The best Italian I’ve been to in Hull.

We absolutely love coming here and have been on several occasions! The food is simply delicious well prepared, given to you in a timely fashion and served with great staff. The result is an outstanding restaurant! It's so cosy too.

Stefano is such a wonderful and passionate manager. The food is amazing and the atmosphere lovely, warm and what we all need right now. Calzone and meatballs as starter have sent us into a good coma! Just amazing. Thank you xxx

Went for my birthday 5th August. Staff was great with out children. Youngest is 1. Food was lovely and very filling. Had a lovely day and will definitely go again.

What a let down.2 birthdays to celebrate, me and the Mrs .6 of us go to the restaurant and step son and his girlfriend are pascals lovers in Cottingham.Told them this will match if not beat pascals . Service great from the waitresses. Boss takes our order. Starters were great faultless.Main course came. I ordered risotto with king prawns and chicken. And newbies ordered there fav pasta dishes. A steak dish and a chicken dish. Mrs had pasta as well. Mrs dish and steak and the chicken dish were great.My dish of chicken and King prawn was nice BUT , no chicken at all in the dish. Our two pascal customers had pasta which they left because the chilli in the dish was so overpowering, it was inedible. We didn’t complain which is our problem, BUT, we didn’t because of the birthday celebration, and that would spoil the night. I popped to the toilet and on the way back, quietly mentioned to one of the waitresses. ( just to make kitchen aware) I would think the boss would be told !!??!!?Well he must have been told because he kept away from our table . Not a good thing.You could tell that something had been said because all the waitresses were quiet.Well, boss please next time man up and check your chefs and sorry but back to pascals. If you had approached us with an apology, it would have made the £173 bill feel a bit better.

We went to osteria tonight as a large party (16 people), all the food was lovely, the staff could not do enough for you, the manager was very professional, young waiter and waitress at the bar very polite and helpful. Superb food! Never fails, thank you osteria!

Didn’t have anything to eat but the service is fab very nice staff will pop again for drinks. The restaurant was very busy and nothing was to much trouble.

Regularly attended Osteria before Covid and really enjoyed every visit. We have just been back now it's reopened and wow! it's as good as ever. Exceptional Italian menue, brilliant atmosphere, great staff and real value for money. It really is the best Italian in the city!

Despite living very close to here, I somehow had never actually been here. Perhaps its because when I first moved here the Cornmill Hotel [which Osteria is part of] was disused and boarded up at the time. Obviously the whole building has had a complete makeover so we decided to give it a go as the in-laws were coming up to stay. I must say that I was very pleasently surprised...I went in just expecting a quick and convenient place close to home, but discoved a restaurant that produces VERY flavoursome cuisine. The starters were simply devine, and the mains that were all had were spectacular in terms of flavour, and they were all presented very well.One suggestion would be, make sure you have plenty of room, as the portions are more than generous!One of the other elements we discovered is that it also has both a covered and open area outside - so we have been back since our restaurant visit and just enjoyed a nice drink sat out in the sunshine. Its also nice a quiet considering it sat on one of Hull's busiest cross-sections at Mount Pleasent.So in summary, give this little unassuming restaurant a go, and you will not be disappointed.

We were really excited to eat at Osteria tonight. We were so disappointed with the service. The waitress was beyond rude, she threw the pudding menu at us. Gave us a boxed left over calzone (not for our table) and gave us mucky looks when we said we didn’t ask for it. We felt like we were in the way not welcome customers. Also the lasagne was awful. On a par with a supermarket ready meal. Really really disappointing.

Wow! What lovely food. Possibly the best vegan menu I've ever seen (the owner explained that his son is vegan hence the great range). When it came the flavours were fresh and scintillating. So glad my friend and I shared my vegan calzone and her spaghetti. The meat and fish dishes our other friends had looked super too. Wonderfully friendly service was the icing on a very tasty cake!Will be returning!

The atmosphere, service and food where 10/10! Everything tasted so authentic, we cannot wait to go back.

It’s not the first time we’ve been here and it most certainly won’t be our last. We went for my Mum’s birthday and we had such a brilliant time in their new outdoor space perfect for the current covid situation. The food was superb and the staff were so friendly, especially Stefano who made the evening even more special for us with his friendly persona. Couldn’t have asked for more

We booked this for my sisters birthday and what a lovely day we had all staff were lovely and the cocktails were some of the very best we’ve had well what we can remember lolll

We had a Birthday party meal in VIP outside area and it was great experience. The weather was cold but it was cosy and comfortable in the heated and sheltered VIP area. The food was very delicious and the service was friendly and quick. The staff even came and song a Happy Birthday song for our Birthday girl! I higly reccomend this place and will definately come back.

Been several times here, but first time 'Al Fresco', wasn't sure what to expect really, new experience for everyone isn't it dining outside so bound to be teething problems but went as well as could have been expected. Always given 5 stars for Osteria and last night was exactly the same as my other 'indoor' experiences here. Food quality is outstanding, service efficient and professional and you can have a laugh/banter with the staff. Indoors, outdoors doesn't make any difference here, you get the same top quality service. It was great to get out again with the family, thank you!! Thoroughly recommended. Had takeaway from here last night and the food was delicious. Decent priced, 3 pizzas and 2 chips for £30 which I don’t think is bad when it’s restaurant quality food just takeaway option because of covid! Will definitely be eating here again, hopefully dine in next time!

Ordered for delivery last night and wasn't disappointed, I was told it would be around 45 minutes but 25 minutes later it arrived. Everything was really hot still. I ordered pollo tagliatelle and it was beautiful, my son had the pepperoni pizza which he really enjoyed. We also shared cheesy garlic bread and chips. I was really impressed and would definitely order again. Thank you.

Average food , very expensive ! Too many people packed into one room for my liking , manager walking around and coming up to tables with his mask under his chin not very COVID safe.And don’t dare say that something isn’t right because we got two good talkings to ! Which was quite intimidating.

Our first time in Hull and as we always do hunt down an Italian. I must admit I was a little sceptical when walking in but as the saying goes “Never judge a book by its cover”Food was great, service was quick and friendly and prices adequate.All in all a very enjoyable meal.Thank you.

This was our first visit out for a meal since March. Cannot fault anything with this restaurant. It is also our first time eating in Osteria.Sea bass baked in salt was absolutely beautiful, light, flavoursome and cooked to perfection. Without a doubt the best sea bass I've eaten.and the lemon garlic potatoes.........amazing. Even my husband who doesn't eat fish unless its fried tried this and loved it. Staff was friendly and very welcoming. Will without a doubt be returning very soon. Thank you Osteria, for a lovely meal

First time out since lockdown. Menu now poor, the breaded chicken we had has now been fed to our dog. Price up from previous & sadly lacking in quality. Staff remain as pleasant and efficient as previous.

So tonight we got a little confused and tried to order a takeaway which turned out to be from somewhere totally different from Osteria! When i realised we called Osteria with our choices and they accomodated us with their alternatives. The person who took our order was fab as was the food. Great service , price and quality. Would definitely order again

After being let down by a previous restaurant, we were fitted in very quickly and quickly realised we should have booked here to begin with and will definitely be back! It was brilliant. Great food, staff, environment. Loads of vegan options too.

I had the garlic bread for starters which was great however lasagna was bland and needs to come with something on the side due to its size, it’s not very filling on its own.

I have reviewed this restaurant once before not long after it opened, we were so impressed the first time we give it 5 stars. We have since been back on many occasions with family and friends for both lunch and dinner. Only on one occasion were we disappointed, on that occasion my husband and i both chose the sirloin steak these were not very good steaks, fatty and tough. Last night sadly was another disappointment, once again my husband had i chose the steak, this time ribeye. The evening didn't get off to a good start, the restaurant was extremely busy, with several large parties at once the staff were struggling to cope. We were shown immediately to our table on arrival then left until our food order was taken, which was quite a long wait. No one asked what we wanted to drink we had to ask once our food order was taken if we could have a bottle of wine and a bottle of water. The manager did immediately bring the drinks over. When the steaks arrived, mine which should have been medium to well, was returned because it was very bloody in the center, blood leaked all over my plate which i hate. The steak was cooked some more but to be honest it wasn't a very good steak again. My husband's steak was cooked to his liking but he was also disappointed in the quantity of the steak. We both had coffee and dessert which were both very nice, the bill was just over £71 which we both thought was a good price, had the steaks been a better quality we would have been very happy. When i asked for the bill a waiter brought it then realised the bottle of wine had been missed off, a new bill had to be printed. Once i had paid the waiter asked if everything had been ok i explained what had happened, he apologised and offered us a free drink. We had some wine left in the bottle because my husband was driving so really didn't want another drink. The waiter did ask again if there was anything he could do but by this time we were ready to go home. The family sat at the table next to us said they were unhappy with their meal they also complained to the waiter. To be fair it was a very busy night but they shouldn't take so many bookings if they can't cope. Sadly on this occasion we have decided we can only give 2 stars, would we go back yes probably thinking all the times we have been and its been excellent although if we do go back we definitely won't have the steak! Sadly two disappointed customers, Martin and Kerry.

Took our mum for a birthday lunch at Osteria after reading many good reviews and it did not disappoint. The restaurant has the feel of being in a wine cellar, with exposed brickwork and wooden beams, the background music was at a pleasant level to be able chat over, the tables are well spaced so that you don’t feel like you’re part of the party next to you. The menus offers plenty of choice, including many vegan options, staff were very pleasant, service really efficient and the food was absolutely delicious and served nice and hot with good sized portions. My hubby said it was the best vegan pizza he’s ever had! One little negative was whilst the restaurant offers a really good vegan menu none of the red wine is vegan so I wasn’t able to enjoy a glass of wine with my spaghetti! We had a nice chat with our waiter Antonio at the end of our meal and as we told him we will definitely be back.

Just returned from a very nice meal at this restaurant we visited it for a birthday celebration we were with a party of around 26 people everyone received the right food with minimum fuss the food was delicious and service was spot on served by friendly staff would recommend this restaurant.

We popped in here for a meal before we went on a P&O mini cruise from Hull. Thought it would be quiet at 4.30 pm on a Sunday but we should have booked as busy.Had a lovely meal. Service was fast and food was spot on. Incorrect items were put on our bill but they quickly sorted.

Lovely friendly staff. Very helpful with food choices. Always good quality food. Never disappointed. Definitely worth a trip be it as a couple/ family or party.

The food in Osteria is amazing, just amazing. We eat there regularly and we've tried many different dishes from the menu. We've never been disappointed. The prices are more than reasonable too. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is great and the washrooms are spotlessly clean. I can't think of any downsides.

Our party if 4 arrived a little early. We were told the we didn't a booking although my husband had booked it the day before however after a bit of a worrying start we were seated in the very busy restaurant. The service and food were great ( we also did a lot of food watching, everything looked gorgeous) all of us said we would like to go back.

Don't know why I hadn't been before - passed the place hundreds of times. Eventually went for the very good value lunch. Shared garlic bread with tomato and pesto and then had the very wonderful chicken strogonoff. Friendly, efficient service and great value for money as on a lunchtime the strogonoff is £5 cheaper than on an evening/ Nice decor in the restaurant - felt as though I was in Italy. I will definitely return!

Great with food intolerances. Top ingredients , lovely food. We have visited a few times. Lunch menu is amazing. The desserts are the best in Hull. Chairs not to comfortable for long sits but AMAZING food.

Basic Italian . Pizza good but need to raise the bar with the bar and quality in the pasta etc Will visit again and maybe when Not so busy . We need good restaurants in central Hull

This was our first visit and we were all impressed with the relaxed friendly atmosphere ,the service and food. A great range of dishes catering for all tastes and reasonably priced considering the high quality of the food we had.We will definitely be going back.

Lovely meal out before Christmas with family. There was plenty of choice on the menu and the food was delicious. The only down fall was we had to remind the staff a couple of times as we were waiting for things and they forgot but aside from that it was a lovely visit and we will be returning.

Absolutely lovely Italian food, popped in for lunch after Xmas shopping. All four of us really enjoyed our starters and main courses. Staff are really friendly and food can quickly. Nice surroundings will definitely be back soon.

I met up with a group of friends in this absolute gem of a restaurant. The excellant vegan menu (flip to the end) offered a great choice and the veggie pizza i selected was excellent. Service was faultless. I will defnitely be visiting again

The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The service was excellent. We didn't have to eat too long for our food to arrive and when it did it was delicious. My friend had a creamy pasta dish and I had the vegetarian pizza. Portions were generous and prices ver reasonable. I'd really recommend this lovely restaurant. We had a lunch time treat. I'd like to visit again in the evening.

Popped into Osteria for tea with my husband before going to the theatre.

Today my partner took me to osteria Italian Restaurantas a birthday treat. We had barely sat down and before opening the menu we were interrupted asking for our drinks order. Normally a bottle of red would be consumed but we decided against. The starter was good, good level of garlic and cheese. This is where things became less than optimum. My partner’s chicken dish was good though a little heavy on the pepper. My beef and tagliatelle was the problem. The sauce was very good and the tagliatelle was well cooked however the beef cubes were VERY chewy . Perhaps I’m being over critical but I do not intend to have a repeat experience.

Lovely food, amazing service. Will definitely be back! Best italian in hull. If you haven't tried it. Get down there.

I ordered the prosciutto panini and some fancy cheese for a little lunch treat out for my partners birthday. When I arrive back from the toilet my food was present, the panini I ordered was the prosciutto and some cheese I carnt remember the name of.

Visited with our family in the week and found the staff extremely welcoming and friendly. Food was tasty and lots of it and even served children’s portions of the pasta. Definitely would visit again

I finally got the time to catch up with my notes of the last few visits to various restaurants and though this is a belatedea review here it is.

We were well looked after but the restaurant was full when we arrived - as we had kids with us we waited a long time, and by the time the food arrived they were past it! I totally understand that they were busy, so it’s not a mark down at all - the staff were excellent particularly the manager, who looked after us very well!

Great service, very welcoming and good menu selection, spoilt for choice. I had chicken kiev it was delicious and deserts are heavenly too.

I visited with my parents on Tuesday to treat them to a joint-birthday meal.

Came here for a significant family birthday and was just expecting an average meal out, well how surprised was I? It was much busier than I thought it would be for a Wednesday night but still great service, for a large table all our food arrived together and was of very good quality. Very very good food and service for a very good price. I will definitely be returning.

Come here because the disabled access is good but every time we come I hope to be pleasantly surprised but unfortunately just get more disappointed. The service was slow an inattentive again - long waits for service had to find staff to take our order and get the bill. No-one checked that the food was ok or offered any condiments. Food is acceptable but the chicken was tough and almost impossible to cut with a blunt knife. Toilets are lovely and clean but unless you're very slim you would struggle to get around the door into the cubicle.

I met up with a few friends for lunch here last week never having been before. I'd heard good things and one of our party had been for lunch there before and enjoyed it. It certainly didn't disappoint. There was a lunch menu and a main menu. We all found something we liked and even one of my friends who is quite picky ordered a meal but asked for the black pepper to be left out and asked for chicken as an extra. The waiter was somewhat confused by her bizarre request but said it was no problem. When the food arrived it was steaming hot and we all tucked in. I had a beautifully flavoured risotto, as did my friend with the strange request, another friend had a seafood pasta dish and the fourth had a salad dish. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food (the portions were a really good size but not too big). We sat and chatted for quite a while and waiting staff were attentive but didn't make us feel like we had outstayed our welcome. When we got the bill at the end it cost just over £40 for 4 of us to have a soft drink, main course and one of my friends had a coffee after the meal. It was great value, atmosphere, food and service. I'm looking to book a small group of us in to celebrate my mum's 65th birthday shortly as I'm sure everyone will enjoy the food there as much as I did.

Eaten here with friends and family on many occasions and it is always great food and service. Will continue to visit.

We celebrated my son's 21st birthday last Thursday and I've got to say we had a brilliant night.

Very impressed with everything about this place. Went for family meal good size portions. Mixed grill was very good riv eye steak very tender and cooked as requested. Lamb shank fell off the bone.

Went with friends the place was very busy, this is maybe my 3rd time and always a good experience. The setting is attractive the staff helpful my only downer was I had Lasagne really tasty but I am glad I ordered a side addition of chips as the portion was not particularly large and it did not come with anything else , normally get at least a salad or garlic bread elsewhere but it was delicious

We’ve eaten at Osteria a number of times now and every visit has been excellent. Great vegan menu available (perfect for lactose intolerant people like myself). Service is always great and the quality of food is always at a high standard. Would 100% recommend!

We regularly dine at Osteria and have never ever been disappointed. We have tried every other Italian in Hull, including Ginos, but they can't beat Osteria for its fantastic food, friendly service and wonderful ambience. They have a very good car park and the toilets are impeccable. We are always made to feel welcome.

We really enjoyed the lunch on Thursday service is bit slow but food is such good and value for money for lunch time.

five of us had a a great meal to celebrate a birthday.The food was well cooked and very flavourful,we did feel that the desert menu needs a few more choices but it wasn't a problem. The restaurant has a good ambience and the staff very friendly, all in all a good evening
