The interior is beautiful, the food innovative, the staff really friendly and informed, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. Unfortunately our evening was marred by a party of six who I suspect hadn't seen each other for quite a while. They got louder and louder as the evening wore on, we now know all about their travels to New York, Bali, relationships..... By the time we got to desert we decided to go and sit back in the bar along with one of the two other couples. There was another dining room that was empty and I don't understand why they weren't seated there. The front of house said that 'this has never happened before'. Apparently even the back kitchen staff wondered what was going on. Such a shame as we had been really looking forward to going, it was a belated treat for my husbands birthday and we'd travelled a long way. What should have been a good (though very expensive) evening ruined. I filled in the questionnaire, stating what had happened but didn't receive a reply.

Stand out hospitality & warmth are what made Osip very unique when comparing to restaurants of a similar caliber - you feel so at ease, which isn’t simple to achieve in fine dining environments particularly with big open kitchens. Even though the restaurant is a bit tucked away, we will absolutely return again given the personal, genuine and kind attention we received. We echo what others have said about the food and wine - the menu is fantastic. I was very pleasantly surprised by the elements reminiscent of Asian cuisine in a few of the courses. Personal favourites for food were the smoked eel + mushroom / pigs ear + trout + honey tart & for wine, the grillo + savoie + riesling! Thanks all at Osip. £585 incl of service + wine pairings + a few supplements.

Absolutely the best place on earth. Our first 5/5 stars for a restaurant. The service and staff were impeccable - professional, kind and knowledgeable. The food was creative, beautifully balanced and had huge flavour. We will definitely come again and stay in their rooms as well!

Fantastic experience - food beautifully presented, taste exquisite and service faultless. I’ve read the other recent negative reviews and agree that there is a lot of eating with fingers (I like this) and lots of dishes “lacking in protein”, but for me, well prepared and novel vegetable based dishes out do meat/fish based dishes every time (and I’m a meat eater). Cost is as stated, high, but look at the number of staff working and with less staff, service would be nowhere near as good. Coffee was terrible though!

The booking was easy to make and the restaurant easy to find. The welcome was very nice and fire gorgeous on a blustery evening. We opted for the tasting menu and the supplement for the en croute dish and cheese course. Ironically both of which were the worst courses we had. Another issue was both pre dessert and dessert were frozen - sorbet or ice creams, not everyone like highly chilled desserts. Plus only one protein course in a menu costing so much is quite disappointing. The other real issue I had was the lack of cutlery - the appetisers and first three tasting courses were all served without flatware. I didn’t expect to be eating with my fingers!

Having enjoyed a lunch at their former premises in Bruton two years or so ago, I was geared up for a seismic event, particularly as this was also going to be at a new venue. Unfortunately, the visit turned out to be profoundly disappointing and didn’t even register a ‘1’ on my Richter scale. The whole experience left me feeling not only totally underwhelmed, but ripped off to boot. I would describe the early courses as “high-octane mush” and the main course, fallow deer, was served in a portion so small it was nearly overlooked altogether, during the interesting conversation. We were offered an additional lobster course for an extra £30 per person. Again, the minuscule serving was so overwhelmed by the flavours in the sauce, they could have served cod and you wouldn’t have known. The quality of the wine was what I’d expect if I decided to spend £15 on a Waitrose ‘special-offer’ and the verdict on the filtered coffee is unprintable. Our bill came to £530, - for three - including a 12.5% service charge, which I would have refused to pay had it not been a social occasion. The price structure is obviously set to match the demographic of the post code, but that is not a licence to charge sky-high prices for underwhelming food. I’ve visited many M*’d restaurants over the years which leave this offering a mere spec in the rear view mirror, both on price and quality. For me, this meal was a far cry from the quality and innovation promised on their website. It just didn’t cut the mustard. I won’t be returning.

The food, service, setting and ambience were excellent and as good as anywhere in the area. However a couple of caveats-At £260 for 7 course and £350 for 9 course for 2 incl. wine, coffee and surcharge this is £50/£60 higher than other Michelin star restaurants. (ie Wilsons/Olive Tree/Bulrush. Secondly on recent visit had 9 course and only 1 meat course on menu meaning still felt a bit hungry at the end which considering price was not good. Felt on value for money basis it fell short.

An outstanding visit to Osip 2.0! having visited their first incarnation, on the high street, it was lovely to see their progress and expansion. Still very much 'Osip' in style, delivery and quality - Local, seasonal, simple, with superb cooking and a focus on detail and quality. Outstanding service, friendly, welcoming and relaxed! Well deserving of all of their accolades! We'll be back!

Edited to add, the new venue is amazing and food and service as exceptional as always! There is a car park so you don’t have to worry about the 2 hour limit on the high street. Outstanding! In our top three tasting menus of all time. Lovely setting and friendly service. All the dishes looked, smelt and tasted superb. They were very accommodating with our request for no nuts, they also offer a vegan and vegetarian tasting menu. Really enjoyed the fact they serve what is in season so the menu is not fixed, and you get a copy at the end. All the dishes are explained really well when they come out. The timing between courses is perfect. There is street parking but it has a 2 hour limit, and as the tasting menu takes around 2 hours to serve, it might be worth looking for a car park that allows more time, as it’s a lovely walk around the venue location. Plus we would have loved a coffee as it smelt like it was excellent quality but had to get back to the car. We will definitely be returning! Thanks Team Osip for a very memorable meal.

January 2025 I’m sorry to write such a negative review because I really wanted to like it, I really did. We visited Osip not long after it first opened in Bruton a few years ago and had a memorable dining experience. Since then, I’ve followed Osip on IG and have watched their journey to their new premises with interest and I really admire the owner’s passion and dedication. So, I went with great expectations and excitement. But I’m sorry to say, it was a huge disappointment and we left both feeling a bit ripped off. The restaurant itself is very nice and the evening began well with drinks by the log fire. My husband ordered a bottle of Roussillon, a bold, deep red from the south of France, or so we thought. Unfortunately, it turned out to be some biodynamic wine that was rather thin and slightly acidic. Never mind, we thought. Our mistake. Just drink it and don’t make such a fuss. We were then taken to our table in the dining room. Again, decoratively, it’s very pleasant. An open kitchen so you can see the chefs at work. Nice, clean white aesthetic. However, once seated, we waited and waited and waited for some food, any food, to arrive. Nor did anyone replenish our, by now, empty wine glasses. When the food did finally arrive, it was a series of overly sweet, mushy courses starting with parsnip, followed by celeriac and finally beetroot. The consistency was like something you feed to geriatrics with no teeth. And covering food in shavings of truffle is just so passé I’m afraid. Our main course was fallow deer which neither of us fancied so we opted for the ugrade - an ADDITIONAL £50 for what was essentially a posh, and rather small, chicken pie. Sadly, we had already opted for this before the start of our meal. It was underwhelming, except for the pastry. I don’t know how they’d cooked the chicken, but it had the most unpleasant texture and, as other reviewers have mentioned, was completely lacking in flavour. There were no accompanying greens or anything. It was like they were having a really big laugh at our expense. The desserts were better, and in a slightly odd way, more savoury. Had we not had a discount of 30% the bill would have come to £370. I’m not sure I would have been happy to pay even half that. Oh, and the coffee is execrable. Can you believe that a restaurant like this can’t offer an espresso? Apologies again for the harshness of this review but I feel I have a duty to write honestly about my experience. I won't be going back.

Just outstanding!! The food, the service, the atmosphere - just wonderful. The staff are fantastic, very knowledgeable and friendly and happy to answer any questions. A special mention to the sommelier - forgive me, I didn’t get his name - but he paired some truly wonderful wines and gave us really in depth insights into the wines and the vineyards, whilst being lovely and personable at the same time. The open kitchen set up is great, so interesting to watch the chefs cook their incredible food. The flavours were so beautifully balanced and we loved the ‘element of surprise’ from course to course!

The new Osip venue has been beautifully done, with a welcoming log fire. The staff were exemplary and very knowledgeable, making us feel very welcome. We had a delightful table with views of the garden and open kitchen. We had booked the lunch experience with wine pairing some time ago at a cost of £240, but todays price is now £300. Sadly as the food arrived in small tasting courses, beautifully presented, with great long descriptions by the staff, we began to feel quite underwhelmed by the lack of flavours. Two of the wines were very ordinary, and the long monologue of how the grapes were grown was pretentious. We came away feeling so disappointed with what should have been very special.

I don't think that my simple vocabulary will compliment my experience of this restaurant enough. FIRST IMPRESSION: A clean white, well lit 'home' with log fires outside that welcome you in. You immediately feel like you are in someone's house, with full open views of the kitchen, like a modern open plan extension with glass walls looking out to farm land. Winter months are a great time to experience Osip (2.0). Its warm and cozy, yet open and light. But the contrasting modern design features of the building, would also make this a beautiful place in summer. SERVICE LEVELS: Well presented but not over tailored. Educated and soft with their approach, that's engaging and light hearted. Which sums up my whole experience. MENU: While I am no connoisseur or do I consider myself a 'foodie'. I have had a lot of experience around the world and I think that I come with good measure. My experience of the delicate detail in the food, and its presentation starts way before it lands on your table. Its starts in the kitchen. Watching the chefs come together and work on your plates jewel-like portraits. This is then followed by a short explanation. Displayed on a variety of different artistic ceramics and wooden platforms. It was a 10-12 coarse 'tasting menu' (I hate that description btw) which explores a full range of delicate produce. But here is the BEST BIT! I believe that the menu is constantly evolving. Changing every 3/4 weeks. This is so important as its location will mainly attract locals. Yet everything they go it will be different. LOCATION: I came wondering whether its new location was going to be an issue. I left knowing that its location is exactly why this will be a huge success. If something is this good, and this special, you will travel. OVERAL: A humble, non intimidating or arrogant experience with a very boastful menu. Which is the secret ingredient. As most restaurants that tend to offer this type of culinary experience seem to try too hard with your other senses, loosing focus on what is really important. Well done Osip and team. EXQUISITE! And thank you.

Had a rather disappointing experience at the new OSIP restaurant in Hardway. It was a warm welcome with mini snacks and drinks by the fire. The food was excellent - creative and colourful with interesting textures and flavours. The staff were welcoming, attentive and enthusiastic throughout the many courses. But unlike the other positive review, we were given a table in a back area that was detached from the rest of the restaurant. It was cold due to ventilation for the kitchen and the area was a thoroughfare for used tableware being taken to the washing up area. Unlike the main restaurant, there was no ambience, no vista and the dining experience left us feeling rather ripped off!! I am sorry but when you pay £350+ with wine, you expect a premium dining experience and it is disappointing that they use this back area for premium cuisine. The poor dining experience outweighed the excellent cooking and service. Request a table in the main restaurant if you want to sample the cuisine.

As others have commented, the food is quite underwhelming. It’s good enough but there simply is no ‘Wow’ factor. Not once. And when the bill for two people with little alcohol is north of £350, then the memory of the experience is more ‘Ouch’ than anything else. For those who know Menu Gordon Jones in Bath, the comparison is that if MGJ is a 10/10 (and it always is), then overall, Osip scores 6/10. And really I would have expected so much more.

Loved most of the 8 courses but the pork main did not work as I had a big piece of fat in it and the meat was not that tender. Also missing the crackling that surely is the best part of pork!. Would not have the wine pairing here again as the wine chosen to go with the lovely pistachio desert just did not go as it was far too sweet . Also the price at £80.00 each for 5 small glasses did not represent value for money

Osip heavily relies on its location to compensate for a rather underwhelming dining experience. Without its well heeled location, it's doubtful they would have the audacity to charge what they do. The food itself was underwhelming, and the portion sizes left much to be desired. It's disheartening to be served such minuscule portions, and to make matters worse, the bread offering felt more like a filler rather than a course. Adding insult to injury was the audacity to charge an additional £30 for a cheese course that consisted of a mere mouthful of brie, on a sliver of toast. The whey foam with the pasta course was just not enjoyable and remained untouched. It simply did not work well in the dish. We were also disappointed with some of the wines provided. Two of them were downright unpleasant, and just were not right. The wine pairing arrived a good 10 minutes before each course, which disrupted the overall flow of the meal. When I raised this concern afterwards, I was met with the response that there had been no issues with the service—clearly, not from their perspective. I politely emailed my concerns, hoping for a thoughtful response. However, my feedback was entirely ignored, and I was simply told that they were perfectly content with their current approach. Their dismissive attitude only reinforced the perception of the Emperor's New Clothes effect, where criticism is brushed off and flaws are overlooked. Overall, my experience at Osip was underwhelming, with disappointing food portions, unsatisfactory wine choices, and a lack of responsiveness to customer feedback. The most disappointing dining experience we have ever had, and I advise to try other options for a special occasion. (unless you are on a diet- then portions are great)

We booked this restaurant and chose the tasting menu. When we arrived, we asked if we could select the shorter of the two tasting menus, but were told we had to have the longer menu. The dishes were perfectly cooked, very well presented and the service was great. A number of the dishes felt quite confused, with different elements not working particularly well with others. Unfortunately, we couldn't finish the final three courses, hence trying to select the shorter menu. What a waste!

An absolutely delicious dinner. We decided to select own our wines as with a large group it enabled us to enjoy a good variety by the bottle over all the courses. Service was informed, relaxed but tightly delivered. A few minor blips around water, but nothing of concern. Incredible complexity of execution and depth of flavours, presented beautifully make for a very special restaurant… a meal to remember. Interior is minimal with a few books to add to the decor: country modernism in a beautiful old building. If you’re in the area, make sure you go, it’s not to be missed.

One of the best vegetarian tasting menus we have had. Friendly service, intimate setting, exquisitely presented plates with food showing a very high level of skill and appreciation for flavours.

We visited Osip for my wife’s lunch. Everything about the experience was first class. The service was exceptional, the food was exceptional, and we were made to feel extremely welcome. Bruton is a beautiful village to visit with some quaint shops and great places to stay. Our experience at Osip couldn’t have been better. Thank you so much!

The food was delicious, and the service exemplary. The staff made us feel very welcome which enhanced the whole dining experience. The food looked wonderful and tasted even better. Top favourites; the fallow deer and the chocolate dessert. It is a great idea to have the menu at the end. All in all - fabulous! Thank you.Good luck with the move.

There is a reason why this restaurant gets such good reviews and has been named one of the best in the UK. Its because the food is superb, balanced and inventive, the staff are excellent and the setting just right (Although looking forward to the new place!). If you are in the South West t is worth going out of your way to visit Osip, this is what modern 'Michelin' restaurants are all about.

We had a near perfect meal! All dishes were delicious but a couple stood out as exceptional, the squash with smoked whey and the final chocolate dish showed a clarity of cooking and confidence that is ver unusual. The wine pairings were also good with all of them hitting the mark and again a couple really enhancing the meal as a whole. Service was immaculate without being sterile and the young team were engaging and warm. Couldn’t recommend this more highly and looking forward to 2.0

Fantastic restaurant with amazingly fresh produce! I find that what really makes an experience is whether you feel a rapport with the wait staff, and I'm pleased to say that they were absolutely wonderful, with a sense of humour!

My wife and I had an outstanding dinner here. It’s like a Michelin starred restaurant in Shoreditch just happened to be transported to the somerset country (fewer tattoos perhaps). The food was as good as any tasting menu we have had, rooted in the environment and presented with great charm by the waiting staff. The amuse Bouche and the miso broth based dish were our absolute favourites. We hope to be back!

Not worth it. Massively overpaid service. Thank god I didnt have to pay myself. My friend decided to surprise me. Indeed I was surprised. I wonder how they got their Michelin star??? Not to mention that portions are a joke.

My husband and I visited Osip yesterday evening for the taster menu. We were greeted by smiling staff who were polite, professional and friendly all evening. The whole experience is one I will remember - the food, ambience and atmosphere were exceptional. Each bite of food tantalised the taste buds - perfect evening!!! Thank you Osip

Clearly an example of an establishment that has striven to gain a Michelin star as quickly as possible, simply to hike prices. The food although i'm sure full of technique, catered to the tastes of the chef and personal exploration of flavors rather than to the experience of the customer. A very sad and selfish (chef-centered) dining experience was the result of our visit - considering that the customers are the ones footing the expensive bill i'd rethink the menu.

This is our first time in the evening with the full tasting menu, we've been twice before for lunch. The full tasting menu with pairing wines is exquisite. The attention to detail and all of the ingredients served culminate in a great experience, a bit like a play but with food. Several acts, some suspense, some fun and a great ending (or endings). Also, the Rofe wine from the Canary Islands was insanely good!

Second time at Osip and it’s well worth the nearly 2 hour drive! Food and staff as awesome as the first time. Unfortunately we were sat next to a very loud London restaurant owner who was having a business meeting which made it hard to enjoy a peaceful, relaxed lunch, but the staff were very accommodating when we asked to move. Not having the menu until the end of your meal can initially feel off, but trust the team, and enjoy the experience. If you appreciate good food and service in a relaxed environment then Osip won’t disappoint.

Everything you would expect and more from a high end restaurant. A truly memorable and exciting experience. As a chef, my partner has very high expectations and was seriously impressed with everything from the initial greeting, the chic yet unpretentious environment and service. We had the full tasting menu, additional cheese course and wine flight. Superb! Highlights? All of it…the skill and imagination across all dishes was incredible. Highly recommended. Thank you team Osip, you are all fabulous.

Lovely relaxed vibe, super calm and nice staff and exquisite food. Nothing rushed and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We only had 2 glasses of wine between us but the wine prices seem very fair. Interestingly there were only 3 meat courses (small amount of eel, scallops and lamb) out of 10 courses - we liked that. Terrific flavours and even the bread was superb. Bravo!

A delicious nine course tasting menu plus snacks. An homage to what grows in the area with tasty results. The beetroot and venison heart taco, the courgette with Cornish lobster and the scallop with mole stood out as favourite courses. The service is friendly and the wine pairing introduced me to regions I’ve never tried before. Parking is a challenge, so come early and be prepared to walk.

We had such an amazing dining experience at Osip. I will definitely remember that meal for a long time. We loved everything about the restaurant- the service, the ambience, the simplicity of the place, as well as the artistry in each dish. To say that every dish was absolutely delicious would be an understatement. They also gave us a handwritten card. And to top it all off, they recognised my name as soon as I said it. I didn’t have to spell it out for them which is what I’m used to doing since my name is not very common to say the least. They made us feel like they were really expecting us. It’s definitely in the little things. Amazing service. Amazing food. We’ll definitely go back.

Whenever we holiday in this country we try to find a Michelin Star Restaurant as part of our treat so have been to several. Osip is a strange mixture of formal and informal - unplastered painted brick walls and kitchen type chairs but beautiful linen napkins, which was nice. There is no menu, just a choice of two tasting menus, one longer than the other, which we knew when we booked. I am fish eating veggie, so this was fine by me and the restaurant asks for any likes/dislikes beforehand (my husband doesn't like beetroot) and this was remembered and an alternative was produced as necessary. Courgettes seemed to figure largely in various guises. When it came to the course with lobster, you really needed to hunt for the fish! One thing that really made us laugh (we are in our 70s so don't feel intimidated in these sorts of restaurants) was when the waiter put a little gold coloured "stone" on the table for the blade of the knife to sit on! The handles are round, especially made for Osip from oak and the blades were engraved to tell us so! Apparently the blade had to sit on the "stone" to prevent it from rolling! Pretentious or what? Obviously, the dishes were tiny and we did not leave hungry but our overwhelming feeling was the whole experience began to get boring, many dishe sseemed samey. I had a glass of fizz and one of rose, both reasonably priced but neither was chilled enough. Over all, pretentious with a capital P and eyewateringly expensive. A few weeks ago we were in Bury St Edmunds, if you are ever that way, please try Pea Porridge (also Michelin star) if you want a super meal at half the price.

For one star I thought it was underwhelming. The service was great but the food was mediocre. All the dishes apart from the “snacks” - raw veggies from the garden, the beetroot taco and the dessert were all a bit too heavily salted. I gave up on the broad bean and pea dish half way because I found it unpleasantly salty. The chilled courgette soup was very fishy because of the the raw lobster bits in it. I thought it would’ve been better without the lobster. The BBQ chicken main course was tasty but again very salty and the BBQ sauce overpowering - I couldn’t taste the small amount of truffles on the chicken. And if I am honest the dark meat of the chicken was a bit chewy. The use of garden herbs was also heavy-handed. Some herbs left a very long-lasting taste on my palate. The only dish I truly enjoyed was the beetroot taco. I thought the taco was fresh and the beetroot was incredibly aromatic and tasty. The seasoning was balanced. Overall considering the ingredients and the execution at £230+ per head (tasting menu + wine pairing) it was not the great value for money.

The food is, in the main, bland and tasteless. The atmosphere is cold and pretentious. The mantra of 'food from the farm' is meaningless ... all food comes from a farm. Frankly I have eaten really delicious food in many places around the world... local country food, sophisticated extraordinary food that is so delicious that there aren't words for it and Osip delivered course after course of below parr dulness.

We were sent here for a special lunch by our children. Although we set off in plenty of time there was road works and the diversion signs just sent us round in a circle. I phoned, mortified to say we would be late. No problem though, the restaurant was wonderful and told us to just get there when we could. Once there the experience was amazing Service was of a wonderful standard from all but especially the waiter with the tattoo on his neck ( sorry l don't know his name) he was polite and knowledgeable . Food was wonderful and some dishes were absolutely stunning. Yes it is expensive but was so worth it. We have been to a few Michelin star restaurants but if the others have a one star l think this deserves a two. My only other comment would be l thought the chicken had been sous vide and then cooked on a griddle, a way of cooking l don't like. Thank you though for a lovely meal.

The food here was wonderful. The waitress was very polite, and they were able to accommodate my request to have my burger plain. They even reduced the price of the burger by £5 as a result. The atmosphere was very good. You couldn't hear glasses clinking together being collected, like you could in any other bar/restaurant, and you could actually hear yourself think which was nice. While there was an amount of noise due to other customers talking that's just to be expected. There's a nice selection of cakes and sweet treats to buy and they all look very nice. Would definitely come again
