Fabulous find whilst driving up to London. Had a great lunch. The quality of the food was excellent! Friendly, chatty front of house staff. Definitely recommend and will be back next time we are passing!

What a lovely find, we only came across this pub due to a road diversion but so happy we did. Staff were friendly and attentive, food was exceptional from starter through to dessert but still with a nice pub vibe and very reasonably priced. We would certainly recommend and will return.

I visited for the very first time for a meal . It was one of the best places I have visited lately for food. The lady I spoke to on the phone to the staff that served us they were so nice and friendly and knew the menu well and were happy to answer any questions we had about the menu . A lovely range of food on the menu it was difficult to decide, I had we steak with port /blue cheese sauce which was to die for. We will certainly back very soon

Fantastic pub to visit on a trip to north devon, great halfway point, food was delicious and service so friendly and keen to help. Plus if you have a campervan you can stay in the pub carpark overnight. Bonus!

Found this lovely pub for an overnight stay and what a joy. Friendly staff, good food and drink and a comfortable room to sleep in , what more could you want. We just wish the Five Dials was our local.

Just went there for Sunday lunch, warm welcome, friendly and very efficient service from all staff and the meal was superb 5 star plus from us. Definitely return when in the area.

Met friends for Sunday lunch here whilst on holiday. Two had vegetarian and two had roast chicken....could not fault anything! Fresh vegetables, amazing roast potatoes all beautifully cooked. Lovely friendly and efficient staff. If only we lived nearby, we'd eat there frequently.

We stopped here on our way from Cornwall to Wiltshire, after a 3hr drive, looking for lunch and drinks, and we are so glad we did! The staff were ultra friendly, greeting us with warmth as soon as we walked in. The food - prawns for me and mackeral for hubby - were delicious. We would definitely book to stay overnight on our way to the West country in the future as the rooms look beautiful too. What a great find!

So glad I booked as the whole place was full!! Despite this, the service was quick & efficient - staff really friendly too. The roast dinner was the best I've had in years - lovely fresh veg, yummy cauliflower cheese, really tasty potatoes & the beef was cooked to perfection 👌 Will definitely be going there again soon!

Food was great really enjoyed the chicken burger. The chips are tasty and the sticky toffee pudding was unbelievable. Great service and staff. very friendly clean and professional would recommend.

We had been to this pub on several occasions over 3 months and were very pleased with the food and the attentive staff . On this particular day I ordered the Sunday roast beef but I couldn't get my knife through the sinews of the meat and asked for a sharper knife but they didn't have one. I left most of the meat because I couldn't cut through it and when the waitress came to clear the table and she asked if we had enjoyed the meal I pointed out to her that the beef wasn't very good as I couldn't cut through it which meant I had eaten very little of it which she could see. The restaurant was very busy and I didn't want to make any further complaint at the table but when I went to pay the lady manager asked me if I had enjoyed the meal and I told her about the beef to which she said "the chef managed to tear it apart with his hands". She had an air of indifference and handed me the bill and said I had been the only person to have made a complaint. I enjoy my beef and would not have left it on the plate had it been palatable. She made me feel very uncomfortable, but begrudgingly said she would remove my meal from the bill. I told her I was upset with her attitude and because of her I would not be going to the 5 Dials again. They had every opportunity to ask if I would like something else or another piece of meat when I first said I couldn't cut through it but they didn't.

Sarah and Paul We both really enjoyed our stay. The extent of the menu was excellent, as was the food itself. Staff and service were good. Seeing how busy you were is recommendation itself, but the standard that was maintained on top of that was great. The room was clean tidy comfortable. Ok there was noise until 11.10 but it was a busy pub. It settled quickly and we slept well. Breakfast was lovely. Well organised enthusiastic owners. Thank you. We have no reservations recommending you.

We stayed for a night to break our journey west. The location is perfect - just off the A303, but so peaceful. Our room was lovely, and complete with Tassimo machine. We had cocktails in the bar and dinner in the restaurant. Dinner was delicious, well cooked and presented - not pub grub! The full English next day was equally good, and tastier than the breakfast at the 5 star hotel We went on to. Everyone we met was so friendly and welcoming. We'll be back.

Needed to find somewhere for dinner as we stopped en route to our holiday location. What a lovely pub! The place was buzzing, in a nice way, on a Thursday night. We hadn’t booked and luckily had the last free table. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the food excellent. Would highly recommend.

Went for a few meals and all were excellent and great value for money. Service was great and a good choice of drinks.

Outstanding service & food, welcoming friendly staff and locals. Really busy on the Tuesday evening we visited so recommend booking. We had high expectations from the reviews and they were exceeded. We'll definitely be back when next in the area

Having organised and pre- booked a table of 11 for 7.30 pm . We arrived and 4 people ordered a pint and a bottle of Merlot to take to the table . On closer examination of the price charged it didn’t tally with the price quoted on the web site for the wine. It turned out to be £8 more than the price in the web site. When the 4 people went to order the second round of the same drinks the price was challenged with the landlady. Which the reply was that the prices on the web site are only indicative and anyway prices have gone up since the web site was priced. If you advertise something at a price then that is the price you should pay . The landlady then priced the second round at the quoted price. The meal was nice but we waited till 8.30 to get our main courses. Such a pity as the venue and meal were nice .

Fantastic owners food and accommodation. Sarah made us feel so welcoming and made our trip. Such a beautiful place to stay, evening meal as was breakfast AMAZING.

We have moved to the area recently & have been for a few drinks, one of the few places to do Peroni on tap. The pub is lovely &the staff are exceptional, just so welcoming & genuine. We booked for dinner having seen so many great meals come out for lunch & having been told how great the food is. We were nor disappointed, we had the mac & cheese & it was so tasty with the smoked cheese sauce. I then had an amazing dessert which was like a Pina Colada in dessert form. Highly recommend & can't wait to go back. Thank you all.

Well this place is so outstanding as a motorhome stopover I don't know where to begin. However it's a small car park so you need to email Sarah to see if she has room. The welcome was fantastic, to use her words with regard to parking the motorhome "just dump it it'll be fine". The food is outstanding, the beer is outstanding and the staff are amazingly efficient, smiley and interested in what you are doing. Just off the A303 this place is a gem and a must visit. Also very welcoming to our 2 dogs need I say more.

The pub is cosy, clean and the food was amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I ordered the mussels for a main and I also had one of their homemade desserts.

The five dials is one of the nicest places I’ve stayed. Myself, my husband and another couple stayed for two nights while attending a wedding nearby. Sarah couldn’t have been a better host. The food was amazing, the rooms were spotless and very comfortable. We will definitely be back if we are ever in the area again. Would highly recommend! Thank you so much for a great stay!

Nice pub, relaxed atmosphere, great food and service.

David and I had dinner there on 31st March and 4th April 2024. Very welcoming. I drank draft Peroni and David had a few glasses of Chardonnay. Good to see that mussels were on the menu and D had then as a starter and I had smoked mackerel. We both like fish and the hake dish was excellent. We could not resist the desserts of Sticky toffee pudding and the Pannacotta. this is a very popular local pub/restaurant and it is great to see it full of families.

Delicious and generous lunch 😋 Really looked after our table of 10 too. Great atmosphere, we will be back!

We like to eat out fairly regularly and without doubt this is one of the very best pubs we have visited. The warm welcome, well kept beers and excellent food left no room for improvement. We all commented on the high quality napkins - indicative of the quality the proprietors try to achive and something we havn't experienced for years. Congratulations Five Dials.

The food was fantastic. From Monday to Friday there is a 3 course menu for £23. For children the menu is available for just £9. The duck was very good, especially the sauce. But the fish platter and the burger were also great. So highly recommended.

We went for lunch at this lovely country pub. The ambience was delightful, welcoming people and dogs alike! This warm approach must rub off because everyone was smiling and friendly. The food was delicious too. We had pheasant which was moist and accompanied by well seasoned vegetables and complimentary sauces. The deserts were tempting too! All in all it was a lovely treat, well priced and scrumptious!

Such an excellent pub as a northerner in the south Sarah and Paul and all the other staff treated me like family it’s was an awesome establishment. I would recommend to everyone and it’s worth the drive from Taunton considering the quality of food and service!

Very rude lady with the short blonde hair working at the bar. We won’t be back. Avoid this place Reply to owner: no I have the right venue. The lady had short-to-medium length hair that she had tied up into a bun. She was one of two ladies working at the bar on Friday 23 Feb

We met with friends on a Wednesday for lunch at this pub which we had booked in advance as it was a good halfway point between Bridport and North Devon. We received a very warm welcome and very good and helpful service throughout our lunch. Really good selections on the menu and two of had the pork dish and two had the cod. all the food was cooked to perfection and very flavoursome. I personally thought the beer battered cod was the best I had eaten for a long while. Good selection of draught beers, ciders and house wines. Thank you all at the Five Dials for a very enjoyable lunch.

What an amazing country pub. Great atmosphere & very warm welcome from the girls behind the bar. Went on first night of our stay at the most beautiful holiday cottage down the road then went back to have a meal on the second night. Food was fantastic as was the service. Only down sides was that it was way too hot & made dining very uncomfortable. & the t-towels on the girls shoulders…. Not very nice at all.. Not enough to mark this place down Would definately visit again if in the area Many thanks girls

We came as a group from work. We were warmly welcomed and well looked after throughout. The food was outstanding and very well presented. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

We went for a birthday meal for 10 people. I chose it for the vegetarian options, way beyond the token offerings you usually get. I had the butternut squash strudel, delicious and filling. Meat eaters were also impressed. The creme brulee was just fabulous. Highly recommended.

Absolutely SUPERB Sunday lunch! Great communication from my mail booking, friendly welcome on arrival. Excellent service. We all 4 had the roast beef. Absolutely perfectly cooked and wonderful range of veg. Cauliflower cheese deserves a special mention. 2 of our party had the Lemon Parfait which looked beautifully served and was pronounced delicious! Can't fault it..our second Sunday lunch there and we WILL return !

Sunday dinner was a strong ten out of ten. Pub is a typical country pub and the food far exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend.

Lovely pub, I had a wonderful vegetarian butternut squash tart main, it was delicious, best meal I’ve had for ages. My family had roasts and enjoyed them but did want a few more sprouts.

Inside we were originally shown to a table right on the edge of the restaurant area next to the bar right behind some very loudly singing locals - we immediately asked if we could be seated further inside the restaurant where it was quieter and thankfully this request was met. After that everything was excellent - lovely staff, some great local Harry's cider and both out mains (duck leg and sea bream) were absolutely delicious. Highly recommended and justifiably very popular!

This is a follow up to a review I had put here regarding a recent visit to the five dials ,the review has now been taken down by me because in the original review I had said if the landlord contacted us and made an apology we would remove it .he has now phoned and given his apology for his and his wife's behaviour on the night in question ,we have accepted this and I have removed the review,I still have the review and if there's any further reviews from other customers showing the same appalling behaviour I will put it back up and leave it on view !!

Visited five dials yesterday evening with my nan & grandad (first time my grandparents have been there) service was brilliant, all staff very caring and friendly. Our food was absolutely delicious, the restaurant area very clean. Would definitely recommend. We can’t wait to visit again soon! Thankyou all for a brilliant service.

I ate here with a friend for dinner, I would not choose to go again.I had fish and chips which were ok, good pub food, but the noise was horrendous. The ceilings are quite low, the room felt dark and crowded. It is obviousl very popular, full mid week but for me too crowded and noisy for average food.

this is still the best steak that i have had and i eat all of it its just perfect and the beer garden is a treat

Fantastic hosts and great team. Clean, comfortable, spacious room with kitchenette and on-suite facilities ensuring a stress free, restful overnight stay with a fantastic breakfast to start the day. Great, quiet location with own car park. Nothing to be disappointed by the room. Ultra covid secure. We also ate in the pub which had lively buzz about it but without being overcrowded which was nice to experience. Whilst our starters of grilled tiger prawns and also the marinated artichokes, pepper, olives, radicchio and manchego salad were great we were both slightly disappointed with the mains in that the fillet of sea bream was served with a cold sweet potato and rocket salad and my pan fried chicken was served with celeriac gratin but cold marinated ribbons of carrot and courgette. Just don’t understand the trend of serving cold accompaniments to delicious hot fish and raw vegetables with hot food. For desserts my chocolate parfait was really tasty with toffee popcorn and marshmallow but the warm sticky toffee pudding soon hardened up as it cooled down. Definitely stay and eat here again but need to make sure we ask lots of questions before we choose our food.

Food wasn't bad although the pastry on my pie was very tough. Slightly disappointed with the choice of mains, on the menu, and very disappointed with the small choice of desserts. Pub wasn't very busy but nearly 5 minute difference between our starters arriving? Also didn't think the staff were very chatty and they didn't check on our meal while we were eating it. Upset because it was a birthday celebration

We stayed overnight on a trip to Cornwall from London. Very comfortable room (Pottery Road) well equipped with tea, coffee etc. Nice bathroom with lovely deep bath and decent quality toiletries. Very nice evening meal, nice beer, friendly owners and staff. His Lordship give you 5 stars and his recommendation. Thank you

Wow what great food. The prawns are some of the very best very special. Thank you Five Dials. Excellent food and service. Fairly priced great napkins not those cheap paper ones some cheap pubs give. This food here is worth every penny. The wine too is fairly priced. Great pub would highly recommend.

We had a lovely lunch at The Five Dials Inn on our way home from Devon. We all had the chicken and chorizo pie, which was very tasty and packed with chicken breast! We sat in the lovely back garden with our dog, as suggested by the manager, and we were looked after from the minute we walked in. The staff couldn't do enough for us! A lovely little find, we were all so glad we stopped.

Ordered the King Prawn starter, prawns were mushy. When I told the staff the lady said we sell kilos of them. My steak was OK but the blue cheese sauce I ordered, didn't materialise. In stead I got a little jug of runny light brown gravy. After finishing my steak I mentioned that I hadn't had the blue cheese sauce. I was told that the brown gravy was the blue cheese sauce. When I said it was unlike any blue cheese sauce I'd ever had, I was told we make our own with stock. The fact it didn't look right or smell or taste of blue cheese didn't seem to matter. Paid and left won't be going back.

Lovely restaurant, lovely food, we both had the steaks which were very nice, lovely chilled wine, all in all a very pleasant visit, would definitely return when back in the area.

Met up with a friend and had a lovely lunch. The menu isn’t huge but there were plenty of options I could’ve chosen from and there were specials also. The panna cotta was really excellent! The staff are really friendly and the pub operates in a Covid friendly way but still maintains a relaxed atmosphere. Dog friendly too. Will definitely return.

First visit and definitely not the last. We were treated to the most delicious lunch in great surroundings and served by amazing staff,they really do deserve success in these very difficult times.

Friends have stopped going because of owners attitude and not to be influenced, we have visited 3 times. 1st time not impressed with landlords attitude but decided to 'waive' it as a one off. BUT the last time we visited.... We were paying the bill at a good amount (over £65 a sizeable amount, for what we earn!) Making conversation with waitress about what she would do in shutdown, no mention of 'holiday'. Rudely interrupted by Sarah (landlady) "I don't know why everyone thinks this is a holiday! It's not. I won't be receiving an income!!".....Well Sarah, I've worked all through & will not be going to the 5 Dials again. Especially if you are not grateful for the support. Wish I hadn't wasted my hard earned money!! OWNERS attitude lets lovely staff & food down. Taking our business elsewhere.

I've just spent a couple of hours at the Dials... a working lunch and an escape from my home office! Great food, Cured duck for starter was awesome followed by a superb Linguine... washed down by a nice glass for Chablis. Highly recommend, well done Paul and Sarah.

Stayed here last night to break our journey to Cornwall and what a lovely place it is. Very welcoming, rooms are beautifully presented and very clean. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent as was the breakfast with top quality ingredients. Covid measures are in place with guidelines and good to see that everyone was following them. Would definately return.

Truly excellent food and service. Jam packed on a Friday night and for good reason. The pie was delicious and my girlfriend had the pork which was also stunning. Starters and dessert also top notch. Give it a try but book in advance- you won’t regret it!

We had two meals in the Five Dials Inn this week when we visited Horton for a few days. Between us we had a very tasty steak with triple fried chips and the pork belly. We also had the steak and Otter ale pie and salmon linguini on the second occasion. The food is not only tasty it is beautifully presented and we thought, not overly expensive. The staff could not have been friendlier. They all worked their socks off each evening and a particular mention must go to Lorna who looked after us on both visits. Many thanks to a fantastic team!

My wife and I visited for Dinner when we were staying in Ilminster and after a recommendation from Caroline the owner of Silver Street Dairy , a lovely Cheese Shop in Ilminster .One of the best meals we have had in a long time , very friendly staff and an excellent menu . The premises were spotless and there was clear attention to social distancing .Sarah was a wonderful host and now we know The Five Dials also has Accommodation next time we visit our family in Devon we will certainly consider booking and eating here in the future .

Food okish, we were crowded out by a local cricket team which made us feel uncomfortable, even though we were outside, in a tent. We left without coffee or sweet as felt a bit too close to others COVID wise.

Stayed for a couple of nights early September my sat nav was sending me round in circles and I decided to stop for a pint not realising unil I got inside I had found the 5 dials, which was very warm and welcoming as were the staff who went out of there way to be helpful. Nice to see such a great dog friendly bar as well as great food -will be back

Great find we had planned to stay in beer but most places fully booked so fell upon Five Dials first impressions when booking in made extremely welcome enjoyed drinks in the gardens followed by excellent food quality was superb service excellent as was breakfast ..Definitely recommend and would definitely stay again as not far from Beer & Lyme Regis ..

Travelled from Hampshire to this West Country gem upon recommendation. 2.5 hours but we were not disappointed.First class food, first class service and very welcoming. Sarah and Paul were the perfect hosts. In speaking with the locals the pub is the hub of the community and you can see why.Menus were varied with fresh local produce and a great pint of Guinness!!! Highly recommended to anyone near or far.....

Booked for an evening meal last minute and grateful they could accommodate us.Good COVID-19 practices within the restaurant. Bread and olives were very tasty, bread seemed home made. I had a lighter option of chicken Caesar salad main course - well cooked chicken breast on a bed of fresh gem lettuce and a really flavoursome dressing. The rest of my family had different types of pasta, both commenting that they lacked a bit of flavour/seasoning. strawberry panna cotta was my desert choice, which came with a basil sorbet. I liked the basil, as it was quite a strong flavour, but my wife didn’t and felt it was a bit like pesto.The fact that the place was full on a Thursday night suggests it is popular for a reason. We stayed Overnight stay during Covid whilst on a motorbike tour. The room was to a high standard and the welcome 1st class. We ate in the restaurant and again the food and service was to a high standard. Nothing was too much trouble and I would highly recommend the Five Dials Inn.

The food and service here were superb. Most expensive meal we had in our week away, but also the best choice and best quality.The only negative was that my wife asked for gravy with her not inexpensive pie, and was given a very small jug for an additional £2.50! Minor point, but it’s what we both remember most about the meal!

Celebrated a wonderful family birthday here recently and as always Sarah & the team went out of their way to welcome & accommodate our group. Seated in the outside gazebo we could easily socially distance within our own bubbles whilst still enjoying the evening as a family. The food was gorgeous & beautifully presented, the staff wore face visors & were very attentive. We felt safe & secure and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We are repeat customers & find nothing is ever too much trouble. We are always warmly greeted & the facilities are spotless. A real gem of a country pub with lovely hosts.

It’s been a while since we last eat at the Five Dials, but just as we remembered it plus of Course social distance, and hand sanitising Stations. very self-explanatory.The food and the staff Were exceptional, menu smaller than in the past but understandable in the current climate. Ate last week - great pub grub and the place felt very safe and clean. The owners have obviously put a lot of effort into ensuring that social distancing measures are in place as much as they can - the staff wore face masks and the tables were set a good distance apart. The back garden is stunning and the pub is friendly and welcoming - highly recommend it.

4 if us had dinner here Friday night and it was stunning, the rump steak is to die for, cooked to perfection. The Plaice was the size of the plate and tasted wonderful. Very good value for money such good quality of food and beer. Staff were friendly and attentive. A large variety selection of drinks plenty of Gins which suited us. Hand hygiene was shown by all and are dotted around the pub, the measures that are in place work well with alot of outside seating, we will definitely be back! Thank you!!

At one time several small groups gathered at bar so that over 10 people huddled in proximity.One of our party cleared around in the men’s/ disabled toilet - lots of paper on floor. Later in evening a guest from another group used and abused the toilet , smearing excrement around toilet rim - not the pub’s nor management’s fault but just about summed the evening up.GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

We were looking forward to go to the Five Dials after having looked at their website and Tripadvisor’s reviews. Nowadays with limited opportunities to go out we are careful to research the places before we go to make our outings worthy. The website’s food photos looked amazing and specifically when read this:“We have a talented chef who likes to concentrate on simple and unpretentious flavours while giving traditional pub food a contemporary twist”I thought this is exactly what we are looking for!!! We were excited!!! The welcome at arrival was very dull like they did not care, that surprised me!. We read the menu and were hoping to see the “twist they talked about in the website” but the food arrived and was a disappointment!!. It was nothing special to be honest. The salad leaves that came with the food were warm, lifeless badly seasoned, like leftover salad, when they should be crispy. The food was on the short side and the produce I did not think that was special or particularly good. I was so disappointed I just could not believe it. I was upset as I had been looking forward to this. It is sad to see pubs that want to emulate a higher dinning experience but fail to do so. We were served is just average pub food (nothing wrong with it if it is priced correctly). I feel if they honestly think what they serve is worth what they are charging they need to go out themselves and see what is about.What we ate wasn’t “pub food with a twist”just pub food and the twist was the extra money we were charged. I feel they are just trying to be pretentious by raising their prices. I will advise to the owners to update the photographs on their website and their statements as they do not reflect what we experienced. It was our first time but unless the prices are lowered or the quality of food and preparation improved we won’t be coming back.

We are travelling through on a road trip and were lucky enough to fill a cancellation after leaving my details with Sarah the owner. We have two dogs ,one only 18 weeks but quite well behaved for a pup, so we sat in the garden. What a lovely area.....beautiful flowers grape vines etc all planted to make the most of the pergola and raised beds. Olives and breads to start then a steak, cod and salmon linguine from not a massive menue but a great choice considering the early release from lock down. Everything was incredible!! The young waitress was attentive and very polite. Everyone was very friendly and all restrictions were covered very well. I hate to say it as it's a strange comment but I felt very safe.....never thought I'd write that in a restaurant review!! We did get the Eat Out To Help Out reduction but to be honest it was well worth paying the full price. Great to see a young couple and their team succeeding ☆☆☆☆☆

We decided to have a couple of nights in Devon on the way home from a week in Cornwall and chose this pub because of the excellent website & reviews. Our daughter, son in law & their 18 month old baby decided to join us for one night. As soon as we arrived you could tell it would be a good stay. Warm welcome (literally as it was the hottest weekend of the year!) from Sarah and Paul. Nothing too much trouble for them. We felt totally safe as everything spotlessly clean and sanitised. They had followed all the guidelines & regulations, yet it wasn't clinical. A little bit of normality which is just what we needed having struggled to get in one pub in Cornwall for a meal.The outside garden is perfect. Don't be put off when you pull in the car park and think that is the outside drinking area. Definitely not! There is a beautiful tropical garden outside which looks stunning at night time.Rooms are clean and really spacious. Lovely toiletries. Needed an iron, it was instantly available. Nothing seemed too much trouble.The food was exceptional. Would highly recommend the pie, and what a lovely chef. Had a really nice chat to him. The waitresses are really lovely young girls. So polite and helpful. Again you can tell Sarah & Paul have chosen their staff wisely.But what has made this couple Paul & Sarah really special is that on arrival our grandson developed a cold and coughed so much he was sick just as his parents were ready to come out! (all over his mum!) Our daughter was understandably disappointed but they decided to eat in the room . I mentioned to Sarah as she came to ask if everything was ok. The next thing we get a text from our daughter to say their food had arrived straight away with a complimentary bottle of champagne. How absolutely wonderful is that? We travel a lot and I have never experienced thoughtfulness like that. It simply made their evening so much better. We will definitely be back here. In fact we're here for another night but felt I needed to write a review!!I feel this will become a tradition on the way home from Cornwall!Thank you again Sarah and Paul. Above and beyond. We wish you all the very best in what is probably going to be a difficult Autumn/Winter but you definitely have the right attitude to get through this time.
