Lovely place to dine,food generally good, excellent service

Amazing food Risotto cheese and onion ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fish and chips delicious as well we tried several dishes all was nice

Waited a long time for meal Whilst others served before us Restaurant was not busy Food when it came Starter was OK though a little cold probably due to wait I guess and mains were not worth the wait I'm afraid This is a nice Hotel but feel Restaurant does not match May be we picked a wrong night Who knows but We won't be picking another night to try

Food was really good. Shame there wasn't a set (festive )menu for the evening as the lunchtime one was extremely reasonable.

Me and my husband came on the 6/5/23. Perfect from start to finish. Food was cooked to perfection and very tasty, champagne and cocktails afterwards went down a treat. Staff very professional and friendly. We have been looking for somewhere special like this and will definitely return.

Steak burger was just warm and dry fries were cold service was slow bar staff were rude when I asked for another flavour crisp there was some sort of music banging below our room 5 of us went for breakfast this morning they brought 4 people's breakfast to the table they forgot mine so I told the manager but they just carried on serving other people and left me sat there this is the worst place to eat and over priced terrible place I will never eat or stay here again after my experience and we booked 3 rooms !

Went on Christmas Eve. Menu only the usual evening menu. In the past, there was a different menu especially for Christmas which made it feel more Christmasy. Food was very good but the service could have been better.

We ate early on a Sunday evening and we're seated quickly. The service was very quick and the staff friendly and chatty. The cauliflower steak was delicious , my partner had the beef and was equally as Delicious 😊 couldn't fault anything.

The food was adequate overly salted and overpriced for what it was, the staff were friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was alittle stilted. The hotel itself was lovely so it was worth a visit.

Table for 2 booked smoothly, The food was absolutely first class. Cooked and served to perfection. Fantastic atmosphere, no loud music, spacious surroundings even though it was busy (ish). Unfortunately there was a short delay in ordering due to some technical hitch, the meals were served a little later than we expected. However, the restaurant manager dealt with the issue in a very apologetic and professional manner and the bill was adjusted accordingly. It's well worth a visit, we'll be going again sometime..

We haven't been to this restaurant for about 18 months. Glad to say it seems to have changed hands for the better. We booked our table but turned up 30 mins early for a drink we were offered either a table I'm the bar or in the restaurant. We opted for the bar. The addition of some real ales was a nice surprise since we last visited. The Wainwrights is achreat pint of ale. All the staff were very helpful and courteous, with prompt service ordering drinks and food. The food arrived quickly and we were not disappointed my wife ordered beetroot panacota, I ordered duck pate both were absolutely beautifully presented , served with bread, salad, and pickled red onions, absolutely gorgeous. We both ordered steaks my wife's well done, mine medium. Both came perfectly cooked accompanied by mushroom, tomatoes, salad and triple cooked chips all perfect. The Malbec wine to go with the steak was perfect well worth the cost. I will definitely start visiting the restaurant regularly again. Keep up the great work 👍

Lovely food in an amazing location, it's like a fairy tale castle, stone built and gorgeous. Plenty of free parking. We sat in the al fresco area and it was fantastic, staff spot on, good food for the price (about £60 for two starters and two mains) and really friendly staff. Really clean and tidy and the gardens are amazing Scallops to start were a little small but the lamb was fantastic, portion sizes nor massive but that's standard in a nice gaff, nice little walk around the back to a disused stone abbey. Will defo come back😍😍😍

Dined a couple of times here, nice location food good. However failed to deliver dishes ordered and missed our orders completely. But did attempt to rectify by giving free drink, but had to be asked for compensation

Great venue to celebrate my 80th birthday. Despite being busy with a wedding party in we were given excellent service by a professional and friendly staff. Lovely comfortable and warm bedroom for the night. Well recommended.

Great food, but bar service was a bit slow.

Could do a lot better! The food was well presented but the quality of cooking left a lot to be desired. Our table (of four) ordered the slow cooked leg of lamb: what is the traditional sauce served with lamb, that's right, its mint. Main meals arrived but no mint sauce, asked for the sauce and some extra gravy, took 12 minutes to arrive. Ideally would have been on the table before the meal arrived. Roast potatoes were tough skinned but fluffy inside, sharper knives needed! The lamb was fatty but ok, nothing outstanding. Barrow's premier hotel? I don't think so on this performance and price, hopefully it's just a one-off blip. It will be a long time before we try again.

really need to update your website regarding dining. people rely on these before booking, dissatisfied with lunch menu, fish finger baguette,? is there a shortage of proper fish and chips? or Gammon?

Gorgeous food, beautiful location, staff went above and beyond, we couldn't praise it any higher! Prices very reasonable for what we got and the food was amazing, cooked perfectly with not one complaint! Will definitely return (even with a 2 hour drive to get to it!)

We had a so called 5 course Valentine’s Day dinner. £50 per head to include a bottle of bubbly. Starters were ok. So called second course was a tiny glass full of crushed ice flavoured with gin. Lamb rump for main course was acceptable though my wife didn’t rate the sea bass. So called 4th course another tiny glass with yoghurt. Dessert a tasteless sticky toffee pudding. The hotel surroundings look fabulous so I was expecting a 5 star meal. We didn’t get one. Shan’t dine there again.

We've just had the worst meal ever, service was very poor, I had salad dropped down my clothes when they cleared the starters. Food was questionable, and my daughter's sweet had black mould inside the raspberries! Certainly won't be going back there... even charged for a double espresso when it was obviously a single and even said "single espresso" when they served it. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Had the much advertised Himalayan rib eye steak ordered medium to well got well. Not an expert but I think the clue is in the name and I actually got a sirloin from aldi.

The roast beef was excellent!! Staff were fantastic. Small issue with a non disabled person taking up a disabled bay and the initial response from reception was to try and defend the Registrar (marriage not hospital...) plonking their car in it with a note saying 'Registrar on Duty' on the dash. Just a tad entitled🙄 Anyway, chat with manager, owner (nay, Registrar supreme) asked to shift it. Really a matter for good old fashioned education and etiquette. And the fact the space isn't there for swift entry by non-disabled to the bldg when it's raining. Or you think you're more important than an person with MS and reliant on a wheelchair....

Oscar's Al fresco was an amazing space for our recent private party. It holds up to 50 people and offers amazing views of abbey house hotel gardens. The room is beautiful on a sunny day, but has a weatherproof awning so you don't need to worry if it's raining. The staff were exceptional, particularly James Gomes. He was amazing, checking in with us periodically to ensure we had everything we needed. For food we went for the barbecue menu, and there was plenty of food for everyone, all amazing quality. Room amenities include also include a bottle bar - we had welcome drinks too.

Oscars at The Abbey House Hotel is a special venue and dining experience. From the moment you walk in, there was a warm welcome from the front of house staff, attentive and efficient. The young staff were well drilled in the art of good old fashioned service, which they carried out with correographed precision. There limited menu meant that although there wasn't much in the way of choice, the food that was available was of fine dining quality. We spent the weekend at the hotel and in that time the footfall of non resident customers to this dining venue spoke volumes. Most definitely one to recommend.

Good quality nicely presented food. Attentive staff. Reasonably priced for surroundings. For visitors to the area check out Furness Abbey accessed behind the hotel pathway.

I have eaten out at 3/4 of the dining restaurants, bistros and bars in Barrow-in-furness and I have to say...that 'Oscars' was piss poor compared to other places. The Scallops were tasteless, the beef burger was a rock solid piece of meat, where the overwhelming flavour was Red Onion Marmalade. The sticky toffee sponge could have been a doorstop in a previous life covered in a sauce, so sweet, you would become an instant diabetic, served with a desert spoon of ice-cream. However, I have to say the setting and the grounds were sublime. Ĺ

The wife and i had really good main courses and the service was good. However, my wife's dessert was disappointing so when we told the guy he was very understanding and deducted it from our bill. Can't ask fairer than that to be honest.

Just the basics in terms of service was poor. They forgot to give us a menu and then take our order, simple things like cutlery werent provided. However food was good. We opted for the steak which was spot on and desert. Again, my desert was lovely, however my partners was a little over cooked.

Diabolical service, uncooked food. Ridiculous wait time between courses, several tables receiving undercooked or overcooked food. Had to go to bar to get bill. Wait staff nowhere to be seen. Where is management?

A stunning modern bar/restaurant with absolutely delicious food!! The 21 days aged Angus steak cheese burger was to die for!! You can easily forget you are in Barrow ;)

Indifferent service, OK food, stayed 5 days only two members of staff acknowledged us. For three out of five days the same person asked if we had stayed here before....every morning!
