Good food, good beer - lots of character

Superb atmospheric pub, lovely friendly staff. Lovely breakfast and coffee.

The size of the portions, and always home made, including the pies. There must have been a full bag of prawns in the prawn salad.

A great little traditional pub at the heart of the community. Drinks and food aren't badly priced. The food portions are huge and you'll struggle to finish it. I went for the Steak Pie priced at £15 which came with vegetables (cabbage, broccoli and carrots) which also came with a portion of chips. The size of the steak pie took over 1/3 of the size of the plate and was home made. The steak contents was plentiful and had large chunks in as well as lots of delicious gravy.

Was staying across the road so gave this a try. Is a nice looking pub with quite a traditional feel. There are a lot of seats upstairs for food but mainly for a drink downstairs with a seating area and car park outside also. Good selection of food and drink. We were told on arrival that there was a 15 min wait to order and 45 min wait for food which was a shame. Ordered the garlic chicken breast and spicy chips. It was decent tasting however one of my chicken breasts was raw so overall spoiled the meal. Told the lad working and he was very nice about it. Not sure of his name but he was good both on the bar and with food.

Service wasn't grate drinks where forgotten, food wasn't to taste. Chicken korma the chicken was under cooked, Cajun chicken pasta the chicken was dry, cajun chicken baguette the chicken was dry too also the chips where undercooked. The manager was understanding but we still got over charged for our bill though as we all basically only had our starters and drinks

Ate here with my wife on the 01/08/24 and witnessed the most disgusting customer service I've ever seen. We waited around 40 minutes for our meal and when it arrived it was practically thrown on the table, it was over cooked and looked disgusting but we powered through, it tasted like it had been heated in the microwave. We witnessed a group of mature ladies enter around the same time as us, they waited around 90 minutes for their meal and the servers were extremely rude to them, then they complained the food wasn't upto par and barely touched their meals, as they got upto leave the staff were hurling abuse at them, we were extremely uncomfortable with the atmosphere, staff were shouting and swearing at these ladies who had waited so long for a meal. Absolutely disgusting behaviour! We left shortly after and will not be returning. The management need to have a word with themselves and get some staff who know how to treat customers.

I go to the brown cow quite often for food as I have always enjoyed it but today 29/07/24 was a total disaster first off I had nearly finished what I could of my badly burnt fish and half cooked chips before the peas arrived wrong ( not mushy ) and totally finished what i could before the last of 6 meals arrived, then deserts were all messed up and again others had finished before the last of 4 deserts came out, then I was tried to pay more than my bills should of been because that was wrong also, shame really as usually I get asked if everything was OK just after start of meal and again at end but I guess by the half eaten meals that were taken away then knew what the answer, maybe it was a bad day at the office ....

Amazing food, I ordered the Cajun chicken without cheese. It was amazing never had anything like it. Chips were perfect! We went at 12 for lunch and it had a quiet atmosphere but nice for the afternoon and it got busier as we were leaving. Friendly staff and amazing pub all round

Very impressed with the quality and quantity of the food, the steak pie is perfectly made with melt in your mouth beef steak and rich gravy, the fish was fresh and buttery, the chips are perfect, also we also turned up last minute just as the kitchen was closing and the food was hot, freshly made and the staff were very nice and friendly. Proper English pub food (chefs kiss)! Also very good value for money

Food ot up to usual standard. Service not good As the meals didn't come out together so I was left while the rest off my party had their meal. When mine arrived I had last beef diner. The beef was very chewy. The veg was hard and not that warm and the yorkshire pudding was like rubber. On the plus side they did offer a refund.

The place was cozy and nice, however, the food was horrible. I started with halloumi fries, which were terribly salty and I couldn't eat them. Similarly, mail meals smell like animals. But, cheesecake in the desert is not too bad, to be honest.

Delivery. What on earth has happened to this establishment? Meat was overcooked, roasties were awful, bisto cheap gravy, aunt Bessie Yorkshire had never seen an oven, the veg was it's only saving grace. Really poor meal, great delivery service though!

Gorgeous meal, great portions, reasonably priced. Looked all around Dalton and barrow for a decent meal and this looked like the best shot, was not disappointed, left full to the brim and still thinking about the flavours. Can definitely recommend their surf and turf as well as their Garlic Chicken and BBQ Pork Rib combo, both stellar and the beef pie looked mouthwatering!

An excellent menu choice,something for everyone, good value,good prices and excellent service, I class myself as a regular, dining every other week with my partner, never been disappointed.

Very much liked. Good service, good food, good atmosphere, fair price with lots of people, you should make a reservation in advance but initially I was alone and had no problem being served quickly and friendly. 5 minutes from my hotel completes the advantage

The food was very poor and had very little flavour, we have had lunch at the Brown Cow several times in the past and it has always been very good but this time we were very disappointed and will probably not return.

Rode all the way to Barrow from London for Dave Day and looked forward to a nice evening meal. Waited and waited but it never arrived. That's after even earlier asking the bar staff to check the order was in. They could at least have offered a pint in compensation or said could they rustle up a sandwich instead but, no, just said sorry and moved on to the next customer.

Great food and great service, but there can be a wait for drinks at busy times

£16 for this. The chicken burnt but warm inside but like the waitress said " as long as it ain't pink inside its okay". Not like it use to be at all. Chicken in the curry that ya could put a window through with, gammon drier than a nuns chuff and the curry ....... well more like tasteless gravy. Only good thing was the bottle of bud ...... shocking

Went for the Sunday roast and the food was very poor. Decent quantity of meat but the mashed potato and veg was awful, lumpy and bland. The service was poor unfortunately. Very disorganised. We were asked if we wanted desert 5 times after ordering them and then took 45 minutes to arrive. Some servers were friendly but one of them just flopped our food in front of us with no words said. We are big tippers as a family but today we simply couldn't bring ourself to leave one. Wouldn't recommend!

Will not be going back, food dissapointing, sent it back and they said they would refund the money , that was 4 weeks ago and nothing , did not give us a receipt to say they had refunded the money so I'm guessing this is what they do to make you think they are not charging you. Be careful.

The pub was freezing- downstairs there were two fires unlit and the place was like an ice box .We had to ask for them to be lit but there was only was lit by the time we moved upstairs to eat. We were told on arrival that our table would be ready in a few minutes. Half an hour later we we were taken up upstairs to join half a dozen people eating and the The room was so cold that we ate our meals and left. We will never eat there again after such a miserable night.

Just ordered food from here, delivery was in good time but baguette I received is in my tool box gonna use it for driving nails, sure as he'll could eat it.

We had a party of six and were well received when we arrived. Fantastic food and a first class service. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive and very interactive with our children (worth 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ on her own), which they loved and also really enjoyed there food and time at the brown cow. We spent about 3 hours in total having our meals and relaxing but honestly felt like we'd been in there for about an hour. We'll definitely look forward to returning again in the future.

Wost place i have ever eaten in my life. Our food was not cooked at all really really would not recommend this place at anyone. Was aboutsely digusting. The food came out cold and came out all at different times.

Service on this visit was slightly sketchy, largely due to a number of our party arriving late. Large groups had arrived in the meantime, 2 of or tables meals were quite slow to arrive due to staff serving larger groups. Overall good .

What can I say about this place that probably hasn't already been said, phenomenal food, I ordered Viking Gammon (gammon with cheese) and by the size of it they brought me the full pig instead of just a slice. The spicy chips where brilliant homemade and just a slight bit of spice on them. My dad ordered the 18oz rump and once again the size was gargantuan, honestly one of the only places where I'd say the weight is cooked weight not uncooked like everywhere else. Also homemade onion rings where delightful also.

Been at a funeral tea today food was good staff were very nice but there was no hot drinks for the older people who were there and it was very cold

What a great old pub, proper old school like I used to go to with my grand parents. Loved it, we had the lunch special; the soup was yummy, we really liked our roasts ( I had beef and partner had lamb) our 4 year old enjoyed her chicken. Very happy with the service.

Came here after reading good reviews on google, rang and they were able to fit us in no problem. Amazing food and really nice atmosphere, could do with turning up the heating but apart from that was the nicest pub we've been to on our trip and I would 100% recommend.

We had dinner here last night. The food was good, the atmosphere very pleasant but what really made this establishment stand out was the excellent service provided by Reece, our server. He was both attentive and engaging. My husband also would like to give a shout out to the barman. Many thanks to you both, and to the kitchen staff behind the scenes.

3 times in a week I had food here whilst working away. First time great food. Second time food ok but third time food disappointing. Maybe a different chef on shift. If consistent with great food I'd return every day. Good location, service and food when good.

Great location at the foot of hill with a church on top. Food is nice, waiters are nice. Wouldn't recommend working there, but other than that it's great for pub grub. Not the fancy place they make it out to be.

Stopped in for 10 mins beautifully, preserved and maintained 16th century public house in interesting location on edge of town. Need more time to fully assess all services beer/ale was good...

Service was very slow, table booked for 1.30, 2 people late due to traffic, but in an hour and a half we only had a main, dirty plates on table for a good 20mins, asked for dessert menus then plates were removed, then no one came back for a dessert order. Went to pay to find there was issues with the card machine so waited at least 15mins to pay (not their fault). Lady who initially took our order seemed to have some form of passion, young blonde girl looked hungover from the night before and more interested in playing with her hair and miserable. A guest service journey is in need here. An offer of drinks upon arrival no matter if everyone is there or not, a check back to get feedback on the food. Roasties seemed like they’d been sat out all day and microwaved. Place also needs a dust! Overall pretty disappointing since it was the family meal in over 2 years.

Food was good but why frozen chips they used to do great chips

Have visited the odd time over the past couple years but have felt as though the food quality is slipping, one example being served an underdone bake at home tesco baguette as part of my last meal.

Wow got the mixed grill could not eat it all so dogs got a treat as well. Always good food here.

Service was slow. Food order was wrong and wrong again. I advised them that my order was wrong, chicken missing from a Chefs Special Chicken Pesto Pasta and nothing was done to rectify it. Prices with medium high, approx £12/person. Good choice of lagers and a pleasant albeit crowded beer garden. Wouldn't return.

Nice wholesome food served here, great quality and service. The beers are great cask beers, local brews, very nice. Warm friendly atmosphere inside the pub which is oldy world, or you can sit outside if the sun is shining.

Nipped in for some food after visiting the Zoo. Ordered from the £10 menu and it was fantastic. I’d definitely recommend and go again.

Great little pub on the outskirts of Dalton in Furness ...... fantastic food great range of beers, fabulous real ales. Reasonably priced too, if your looking for good beer and great pub food there's no beating this place. The Brown Cow Inn Dalton in Furness, I would highly recommend the cow pie. Juicy steak in a beautifully buttery pastry. Proper old school pie 🥧

Great food but service really slow and wrong desert orders. Didn't raise as just didn't have time to reorder. Shame as food was so good. Will return though as a great venue.

Food not cooked and food did not arrive altogether and the pre ordered menu had to be changed on arrival as they were unable to supply what we requested? Waiter/Waitresses provided a good Customer except 1 member of Staff who was quite rude. This place certainly needs to take a very serious look into how it' runs it business or it will cease to survive. Our previous visit to this establishment was a far better experience.

Friendly staff great hospitality and service. Food was excellent very busy yet food waiting times were not excessive quick quickly to be fair. The food itself was probably one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Both quality and quantity.

Excellent Food so good we make a point of coming here even with a round trip of 2 hours. The roasts are delicious and service to match very attentive.

Steak was Iver cooked and tough as old boots and the chicken in bbq wasn't much better either.

My dad is in hospital locally so we stopped in for a bite after visiting and it was superb. Steak pie is proper home made and so were the chips and onion rings. Highly recommended for good home style cooking
