Nice setting, nice decor, very very slow service, extremely poor Sunday lunch. Both of us had roast beef which was half extremely flabby fat and the rest difficult to cut. Dessert, Belgian waffle, obviously from the freezer and over microwaved, was more like a biscuit. It will be a very long time before we return.

I have already written a review elsewhere, but this input is similar. A present from our grandchildren, for my 80th Birthday which was chosen with thought because it was to include my wife. Located in lovely grounds this old mansion now fashioned int a hotel had a welcoming warmth. That same warmth was much in evidence when welcomed by the staff and shown to our table into a magnificent conservatory and shown to our table. Beverage was quickly served followed by our afternoon tea consisting of cakes, sandwiches and scones, jam and cream. Mere words do not adequately describe the quality, amount , presentation and value of what was a very enjoyable meal. To describe it as a snack would not do it justice. Good service in lovely surroundings next special celebration this place will be an obvious choice.

I stayed at the hotel for work one evening and rather than head out, I thought I could stay and eat in the restaurant. I made my order of an apple juice and a lamb steak. 15 minutes later, the main arrived, to which I had to remind them I had ordered a drink. This was then brought to me. The lamb was chewy, and I was not offered any sauce for my chips. The table next to me had an empty dirty plate left there from someone who had left before I sat down. Once I had finished, I noticed that one of the waiters was walking around offering tables bread before their mains arrived, which I had not been offered. This was a Thursday evening, with a number of empty tables. Would not eat here again.

My boyfriend and I had a valentines meal here as we were staying for the weekend in the hotel. We booked a package deal which originally should have been a superior double room but due to over booking over the valentines weekend we were changed to a standard double (this was ran by us first) and we were offered complimentary add ons which we were pleased with. Because of this, our package included a three course meal and bottle of wine. On arrival to the restaurant we were greeted by a lovely remember of staff who was welcoming and asking about our stay. Unfortunately I didn't get her name but we felt she was an asset to the company as she couldn't do enough for us. The other staff were also very attentive and we were never waiting long for our next course. The food was excellent, we ordered the tomato and red pepper soup to start, followed by a burger and mushroom risotto for our mains and a chocolate dome brownie and lemon tart for dessert. All of which were thoroughly enjoyed. The wine was lovely and the ambience of the room was perfect for the occasion. All the furniture looks to be Laura Ashley and it really is stunning. Highly recommend.

what an appalling service, I had booked surprise Valentines meal out with my wife, I was contacted a couple of days before to make sure I was still going, (my wife answered the phone so that was the surprise over with) but not the restaurants fault. We arrived at reception at 6.50 as the table was booked for 7pm, a nice girl in reception greeted us, took my name and asked us to go into the bar and someone would be in shortly to take us through to Oscars Restaurant, we ordered a couple of drinks and sat just by the bar, 10 minutes when by followed by another 10 and another 10, by 730pm I was a little annoyed so I went to see the girl at the reception who couldnt apologise enough, grabbed the phone and again said someone would be in to get us directly, So I want and sat back down, Another 15 minutes passed and a waiter came through and I thought here we go but I was mistaken, He collected another couple who had only been sat down for 10 mins to take them in to the restaurant, over 45 minutes after the table was booked for, I would have understood if anyone had been to us and explained that it was busy (which by the looks of things really wasn't) but we were completely ignored the whole time., The staff behind the bar were having too much fun to notice us., I told the girl in reception that we were not waiting any longer and left, Not a good experience at all, Extremely disappointed to say the least.

Visited for my sister in laws birthday on a Saturday in January. The food was lovely but the service was appalling. Arrived for lunch, no-one in restaurant, no-one at bar had to queue at reception to book in behind another two people checking out. Told to wait in bar and someone would come. They never did. Then we were offered afternoon tea menu and seemed to cause a commotion that we had booked for lunch. Eventually got correct menu and food was lovely. Had to ask three separate times to three different people for a second round of drinks. The ? restaurant manager actually ignored us when we were waving at him. So disappointing.

Most of us had traditional Sunday lunch with really tasty meat and a good selections for puddings after! Staff were a real bonus with being so helpful and attentive to our young children inparticular. All in all a very pleasant visit! X

Good food and decent portions from a reasonably comprehensive but not too exciting menu, served in a calm relaxed dining room. We arrived and asked reception where we should go to have our lunch (pre-booked). She didn't seem to know but told us it would be in a nearby room (which was deserted) or the bar. We went into the bar, where two people were serving one customer and who completely ignored us whilst we stood there. After a while, I asked if this was the place where we could have lunch; the barman then called someone (I think her name was Tina) who was very helpful. Our meal was to be served in a room upstairs (due to a large wedding party about to arrive downstairs). It was a nice room, but we were the only people in there. The only menu on the table was showing 'Light Bites' on one side and on the other side ‘Afternoon Teas’. We were not impressed. After a while a pleasant young woman arrived with a much longer menu. We asked what the dish of the day was to be; she didn't know and had to go away to check. Some time later, she returned and told us. The food was tasty, but my dish, although it had a very a flavoursome sauce, the chicken tasted old and dry. We only had one course and the bill came to almost £30 (with two tonics at the start). We did put a tip onto the bill, as it was not the waitress’s fault that she has not been told the dish of the day and that the receptionist didn't know where the food was being served. This is something that the management should cover with adequate training. We were trying out the food, as we might be going, with a group of friends, for New Year's Eve. I hope that experience is better.

The melon starter consisted on a single strip of melon crafted into a rose and surrounded by a few spots of coulis. The melon rise was the diameter of a two pound coin and about an inch high. Despite the complaint we made, and although the waitress said she would 'pass on the comments', no- one from the management team spoke to us. The asparagus and Parmesan starter consisted of two spears of asparagus on some leaves with two ten pence sized croutons. . The promised Parmesan foam was not in evidence.. The main meals were better value but the starters were such a rip off that it has put us off going again. Well done to the staff for faultless service though.

The restaurant has a pleasant outlook across the hotel parkland towards trees. The chairs are comfortable and we liked the linen napkins.Sadly the food didn't do the setting justice. We agreed that we have had much better offerings in many pubs. The baked Camembert starter was really liquid and served with a few pieces of hard bread. It was difficult to eat and it would have been better if a spoon had been provided. The duo of prawns starter consisted of small prawns served on a single lettuce leaf and 2 king prawns. The thin slice of toasted ciabatta was ok but the dressing was rather bitter and overpowered the prawns. The mains were limited. The burger was well presented and quite tasty but the chips were soggy and greasy. The tikka masala resembled a korma. It was bright yellow as was the accompanying rice. The abundant use of turmeric gave both the curry and the rice a bitter edge. I have looked up the ingredients for tikka masala and it is supposed to contain tomatoes and peppers. There was no evidence of either tomatoes or peppers.

We were there a total of 3 hours (table of 12) we had pre ordered our food, the wait was dreadful slow and staggered to the point of we wasn't given all of our meals/deserts at 1 time, there was a 30 minute period between the first dessert being issued to the last. A group of us went for Sunday lunch over the Bank Holiday weekend and the meal and service was good rather than great. We had a drink in the bar first - selection of white wine was limited - only had Chardonnay behind the bar. Bar area overlooked the gardens at the back which looked nice (rain prevented us from exploring more). The meal itself was OK but there were too many issues that prevent me from recommending it. They set side plates out, put butter on the table but then didn't bring is bread and then proudly came and took them away after the starter. My prawn starter was brought to me without the large 2 prawns on it that everyone else had. For the main course I felt the quantity of meat that everyone was given was poor.Having said that the meat was well cooked and the vegetables too although half of them arrived after we had started eating and as a result we had carefully dished out the small quantity that had arrived earlier and thought that this was it.We chose the ice creams and cheesecake for dessert - fine but be aware that the cheesecake is the baked style so may not be to everyone's liking.Despite the many errors the waiting staff were friendly throughout.

We recently attended a 70th Birthday meal at the Southcrest Manor Hotel in Redditch. It was my brother in laws fathers birthday and I believe there were between 50 and 60 of us all being seated for a meal. The evening was lovely, helped along by nice food and friendly staff who were very attentive. At one point I even noticed that some of the team were joining in with the partying, which was just great. There was a Jazz singer on for most of the evening, based in the conservatory which was next to the bar. I believe his name is ’Trevor T’ and is on every Wednesday evening, for anyone visiting for a meal or for residents to enjoy. He was that good I thought he had been booked especially for the 70th Birthday meal / party. I don’t normally go out during the week; however I will be visiting the Southcrest again on a Wednesday evening to enjoy the entertainment and food. There seemed to be more functions going on at the same time in the hotel, however they did not seem to interfere with our party at all. The hotel seemed to be buzzing with a great atmosphere. Thanks to the team that looked after us all and for making the Birthday Boy’s special day.

Our family meal here started like a bad episode of faulty towers. Not brilliant but you could laugh at or overlook the mistakes - a bottle of white when we asked for red, only 4 menus between 8 of us or the grubby glasses and cutlery. We were the only diners in the restaurant (perhaps this should have been a warning) and were ready to have a relaxed family meal to round off a wedding weekend. Several of us wanted to order the same meal and the waiter went to check if there was enough pork for everyone. He came back and said it was no problem. Pork medallions in a cider sauce for 5 of us (two of which were ordered without the sauce) . After ordering we left for almost an hour to wait for our food. Noone came to ask if we were ok or to apologise for the delay. It seemed to be expected that you should wait so long for a simple set menu meal. When we were overheard joking about fighting over the last bread roll if the food didnt come soon we were supplied with some rather questionable excuses. "You're food is slow because you have ordered main courses" (unusual as it is we thought a restaurant could cope with people coming in and ordering a main course.)We also were told that they had had a wedding there the day before. At first we thought this was irrelevant but when the food came I suspect we were served lukewarm left overs from the aforementioned wedding. When the food arrived it was cold, tiny portions and the pork was dry. I'm not talking a little over done. when I tried to pick up a piece with a fork, the meat bounced! It was an appalling standard of food which wasn't fit to be sent. When we showed the waiters they offered to take it back and have it redone - when 5 out of your party have the same food and you have waiting an hour already you dont want to wait another hour to have more bouncy meat brought back. It was at this point I decided there was no way we could continue our meal there. I asked for the Manager and the waiters tried to placate me and said they would sort it. I told them I knew it wasn't their fault and I really wanted to speak to the Manager. I had to go to the reception to ask for him myself. It seemed to me he had been hiding away, knowing we were receiving appalling service. When he saw the food he agreed it was substandard, but didn't apologise. As we continued to complain he offered us another bottle of wine which we declined. Our evening was already ruined by the insulting standard of food and service. My elderly grandmother was in tears at this point because this was meant to be a lovely family catch up. As we waited for our taxi, she fell up a step, banging her head and face, in the conservatory that was not adequately signed and didn't have the bright edge you would expect on a step in an unusual place. The manager watched as we rushed to her and picked her up, his only response to offer her some ice. There was no evidence of proper first aid procedure. No effort was made to check if she needed an ambulance (no first aider ) or to record the event. The manager admitted that our celebration had been ruined, the food was unacceptable and even said he wouldn't bring his family back if he had experienced this. despite this all he offered us was a free meal on another night. Why would he expect us to return if he wouldn't.? (I would like to add here that the only member of staff that was helpful was the female receptionist who seemed genuinely concerned about our complaint) He refused at first to give the details of the owners claiming he was in charge. Eventually I was given the owners' names but no contact details and was advised to write a letter of complaint. I was not happy to deal with this matter in a letter that could go missing, so I left my contact details on the understanding that If I am not contacted tomorrow, I will ring environmental health and the health and safety executive. Having seen the lack of responses to negative feedback on this site, it will be interesting to see if the owners get back to me. In the meantime my advice to any considering a family event at this place _ STEER CLEAR.

We were lucky to have the whole restaurant to ourselves on a Saturday night!! service was impeccable, the waiter was very attentive, he came over and filled our wine glasses etc.The menu was limited but very high quality, two courses for about £17, three courses was £22.50.I had goats cheese and relish to start, poached salmon, veg and new potatoes for my main course, and cheese and biscuits.A nice bottle of Merlot was only £14!!Very good value for money, and served at a very high standard.

I took my wife to southcrest manor hotel and spa for a Valentines night to remember. with a kgb deal. I had per booked a bottle of red wine when we got there all looked good until we got inside the eating area. We was shown to our table and the wine was there on table WELL there was a half drunk bottle off red wine. i told them and they return with a very cold bottle of red wine. We order our food starter was nice but main we ordered the stake well done 3 times we both had to send it back its was cold or still very red. by this time my wife was almost in tears. i spoke with a very rude man who was sir post to be the manager. we were offer something diffident from the menu so we had chicken what a joke that was mine was cold and my wife's uncooked if thay cant cook chicken there's no hope. and when it cam to Deseret a fruit salad which looked like it was from a tin. we were both upset that night. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE EVER DON'T GO. ITS TOOK ME TILL NOW TO WRITE THIS.

While staying at the Southcrest Manor hotel on a working trip in the area, my colleague and I did decide to try the resaurant on our first night in.To start with the good points:1. The service was very friendly 2. The starters that came out to be fair were good. I had the vegetable soup and my colleague had the fish cakes. It wasn't haut cuisine, but quite palatable. After this, things went down hill very quickly.I ordered the pork as this came recommended. It reminded me of something from of a 1980s school canteen - it smelt pretty nasty and the cooking process resulted in a dry/leathery texture. I think it had also been microwaved. The microwaved overdone vegetables also didn't go down terribly well.My colleague had the chicken which was rated much better (you could eat it) - but still "below average". After complaining we were told that they had just started with a new meat supplier, and I changed my order to the chicken. We left very quickly at the end.Even though they obviously need to get better quality ingredients in, this alone doesn't make up for the bad cooking at this place. We won't be going again.

We visited the Southcrest Manor Hotel for Sunday lunch. It is now a privately owned hotel. We were the only ones in the restaurant. The food was lovely - well presented and really good value at £15.95 for 3 courses. The service was excellent. I think they have got a big job to do to get back the trade lost when this hotel was part of the Quality Hotel chain but I do urge you to give it a go if you want to avoid the typical carvery Sunday lunch - I am sure you won't be disappointed.

Made a special trip as the website made a big thing of being dog friendly. Unfortunately the food was overpriced and my dish, slow cooked beef rib, was inedible. Swimming in grease and veg taken to the limit of Al Dente. They did offer a fresh meal but my appetite by this time had well gone. Disappointing.

This is our favourite cafe in the Kingfisher shopping centre & has recently been renamed and the service & quality of the food was excellent as usual. The staff are very attentive & the tables are kept spotlessly clean & it's always a pleasure to visit.

Usual Costa menu, freindly staff, very busy, but plenty of seating in store or outside in the shopping centre.
