Oscars in North Ayrshire

We hadn't booked breakfast and when we walked in at 10.20am we were greeted with "have you booked" in the most unpleasant arrogant manner we responded no and was told "were not talking any more walkins" been here many times for breakfast but never been "greeted' in such a hostile way, very disappointed.

After driving for over an hr as I had been for lunch an dinner several times before....We arrived for lunch about 11.40am as we entered the restaurant there were 2 girls behind the bar chatting to each other when they eventually realised we entered we were told from the blond haired girl ...just sit anywhere...we then took a table at the window with no menus on the table after about 5 mins I went to ask the girls behind the bar (who were still chatting to each other) for a menu to be dismissed very snappy with lunch doesn't start till 12....so I then went back to table an a few minutes later the blond hair girl came an gave menus to ourselves an another table of 3 people (who had been in before us ) then went back behind the bar an proceeded to bring her phone out an speak to the other girl ...we decided with the ignorance the staff showed towards us to leave an go elsewhere for lunch

We enjoyed a Christmas dinner for 5 adults and 2 kids and it was absolutely perfect , food beautiful for all of us who had different meals ! Service was amazing, thanks very much to Derek Claire Jordane and everyone working and the chefs x

Today was my Birthday I went to Oscars in Saltcoats the food and staff were very good.The draught beer was an absolute disgrace I tried two different types of lager both smelled very strongly and tasted horrible it ruined my night ended up going to the Saltcot for a decent pint.

This experience was absolutely fantastic The food was absolutely amazing the staff were extremely attentive and iona our waitress was an absolute diamond wich made our experience even better. Highly recommended.

Poor breakfast everything done in the deep fat fryer, Should have known better when asked for an omelette and told they stick to the pan , either a lazy chef or an unconfident one .front of house girls good ,kitchen no pride in there work.

This was the most disgusting restaurant I have ever been to. Staff were not very helpful. Waited over an hour for food to arrive even tho the place was virtually empty. DISGUSTING FOOD. VERY OVERPRICED. I have sent an email complaining to manager and still no response. Would I recommend NO I WOULD NOT.

Place is over priced paid £9.99 for small portions of mussels which was 7 shells and 3 tiny thin bits of bread, usually u get about 20 mussels, left and went McDonald’s

Soft play staff especially ladies who behaved like a steward or door/man/woman, was explained to me that it was cash only for admittance, had to travel to asda in ardrossan b4 I could get cash, When came back to soft play /car park I c noticed the bouncer n two other members of staff outside smoking ,when the bouncer noticed me she made a beeline to get indoors to serve me/admit me n my autistic child n her friend into oscars soft play ,I was met with a stern whats ur name ,quite ignorantly, so goes in n same three staff members standing staring n obviously talking about me n my daughter, My daughter asked for a slushy and went up to cafe part to wait at least 5mins maybe more whilst all staff members where on phones .my daughter came back upset at way they eventually served her. Personally I will not be back at soft play ,im sure I'm not the first who has complained about this service. Tables around us not cleared or cleaned, this would put people coming back to this establishment because of clique of older bouncer n younger staff ,who I might add where pleasant to me but the bouncer needs to learn certain skills in customer services. Really disappointed in what should have been a fun cpl hours for my daughter turned out to be quite unpleasant. It's not the first time iv had dealings with said older bouncer/door steward person but on this occasion I feel its only right that I write this review,if I and others don't like the experience, then I'm sure a lot of others wouldn't come back for same said reasons.

Food was lovely was there with my family as we always go all the time , service is good always asking if u would like anything else , it’s a busy place so sometimes a bit of a wait but to be expected , overall I’m happy 😃

I went out for dinner on Thursday 8th June with family. We were given a 60 pound gift voucher as a wedding present for oscars as it is a place we love to go for dinner but unfortunately the service was not upto its usual standard. When I went to the bar to ask for the bill the staff member was busy with other customers. Another staff member approached me from outside the bar asking if that was our table and pointed to where we had been sitting. I said yes so she walked to the back area and then came back with the card machine which showed the payment of 81.25. I told her I had 60 pounds on the gift voucher and handed them to her. She told me it was card payment only. I said the vouchers show it is oscars name on them and she still said card payments only and then said the rest of it had to be paid by card. Her tone of voice wasn't friendly at all. I said I knew that. She walked away from me and as she passed a young staff member who was polishing the cutlery, she said something to her and the young girl turned round and stared at me. When the staff member came back, she sat the card machine on the table across from the bar and said there you go and walked away. I paid contactless and the receipt came out and I tore it off as no one was there to do anything but then she appeared as I done that. She didn't say anything so I just walked away. I don't know what her problem was but she just seemed to have a problem because I was paying with vouchers. This has put us off going back to oscars. The staff members name is abigail. I never complain about anyone but I feel this girl needs named as her customer service skills are terrible and I am sure I am not the first to complain about her.

We went for a run in the car and ended up in Oscars for dinner by chance. The food is great, my wife said the fish and chips were the best she has tasted, the steak pie was good too. we will definitely be back...

Oscars were so accommodating when we turned up early for a booking when the child in our party couldn't wait any longer for dinner time! Great selection of food and drink and really lovely staff. Recommend the fajitas!

Visiting with family for a birthday dinner . I have eaten here before and the food was good. Tonight just deeply disappointing from arrival to end. Uninspired young staff cooks that have lost interest in hygiene or turning out food that looks or presents good value for money. Chilli garlic prawns consisting of about 8 prawns on a dinner plate in a sauce that had chunks of uncooked garlic and what seems to be the restaurant speciality described as salad plonked on the middle of plate some lettuce leafs . This was delivered to my table by a young server who found it difficult to arrive with food looking as it left the serving hatch it was then plonked on the table on top of my fork . Just under 8£ for a deeply disappointing starter. I had chosen the fish beer battered and “ hand cut chips” £12.95 It arrived and I could only stare at the plate decent sized fish in a batter that possibley only just been shown heat. Pale aweful looking enclosing a tasty white fish that seemed overly moist . A small plastic lidded tub of mushy peas as it seemed they couldn’t be bothered to put it on the plate after possibly microwaving it a metal flower pot with a child’s portion of chips (having sat upstairs watching the cooks portion out food this was no real surprise as the practise seemed of falling out of a plastic bowl what dropped off was picked up by hand and returned to the bowl for next customer. No portion control whatsoever ) and of course on the plate to create value a splodge of lettuce leafs . £2.10 for a small bottle of Coke Zero just completed the nite Will I go back. Absolutely not . Awefull was how I was left feeling . Did i I complain no not making a fuss at a family dinner where I normally would have sent it all back . 6 adults and a child Being kind with 2 stars

Had a lovely meal. Could not fault it, but the fly in the ointment is charging £2.10 for a half pint of soda water when we paid £20.00 for a bottle of wine. I feel that this is disgraceful especially when our bill was over £80.00. I don't know any other restaurant that actually charges for soda water and therefore I will not be back.

Came here for dinner and after we watched a film the food was outstanding! The restaurant itself is clean fresh and a lovely atmosphere the menu is very good as there’s something for everyone! My personal favourite is without a doubt is the chicken sizzler it’s absolutely delicious! The portions are huge as well and the cocktails were fabulous looking forward to coming back!

This saved the day in a less than pleasant visit to an old, painfully neglected,haunt. Oscars is a smart bistro shining in the middle of all the concrete decay. I didnt have a full lunch but witnessed some being served. Food is excellent. I plumped for a snack in the shape of mixed chicken and vegetable Tempura with side salad with Coffee and a tasty Mars Bar Square cake.Staff were really nice and very helpful. The bistro is adjacent to the Cinema complex. All of which are now housed in the old beachfront amusement arcade. There's not a lot of choice in Saltcoats anymore but its not a problem, since they have this place. Beautiful interior decoration, plenty of seating as there's an upstairs gallery. Definitely worth a visit.

First visit to Oscar's on Sunday and their burgers are fantastic, as are the fries and the side coleslaw. Best burger I've had in memory. But, I don't get what's happening with the waitress assignment. There doesn't seem to be a waitress assigned to a specific table - they just seem to randomly ramble around here & there so you get ignored and have to catch anyone's attention. When you get three or four waitresses over a lunch you also don't feel much inclination to tip them.

Breakfast was amazing . Service was top class and managers Claire and Derek clearly must know what they are doing.

Went with my fiance for dinner , after waiting for the re opening after Covid , we are very disapointed and wont be returning. Alot of food was not available from the menu The food is definatley not the same quality pre covid maybe there are new chefs? Starters were fine, the main course of fish and chips...the mushy peas were brick hard as if they had been overcooked. The fish was full of small bones. When we asked for replacement peas staff seemed unintrested never asked why? Ordered cheesecake and I would have got a better quality cheescake from Iceland. Was definatley shop bought, the biscusit base was non existant, the ice cream must have been in the freezer since first lockdown. Was hard and was full of ice. I did say to server about the cheesecake and she just said I will take it off your bill. Wasnt intrested in my feedback. Never apolgised and never asked if i wanted anything else. Pre covid the cheesecake was always amazing. Wont be back

2 people in the group had to send food back that was given freezing cold. We were rushed to order desert as they were closing in 45 minutes! Service and attitude was poor - felt as if staff didn’t want to be there and we were an inconvenience. Waiting times for food was abysmal. Meals for the group came out ten minutes apart. They ran out of several items on the menu which was disappointing. Set up of restaurant was very basic and unwelcoming and there was food on the floor underneath the table when we arrived. Standards have dropped considerably since our last visit pre-covid. Food was ok, wouldn’t rush back. Hand sanitisers and temperature check on arrival. Covid guidelines were followed.

We had the pleasure to have a wonderful family meal here today. The service from Laura and Coinchia was very friendly and helpful, the food was tremendous and enjoyed by all three of us. The only downside was that it was very cold in there. ( not the food, that was very hot indeed) . Thanks very much ladies and of course the chefs.

Went to Oscars for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the standard of service and food. The chefs know how to both cook and present food well and I am a very discerning customer. Having had some awful meals in supposedly 'better places this was great and highly recommended. The mixed tempura plate was excellent and the main - I had salmon which was cooked oerfectly and served with well cooked vegetables. The amount on the plate was just right- I will definitely be back.

Have visited this restuarant on many occasions.Sometimes just to have a meal or for the cinema deal which is excellent value.The staff are always cheery and very helpful especially when the resturant is very busy with their special deals.Food is good value and there is always a good selection on the menu.

Ate here with my partner in the early evening mid week. The choice of dishes was good, but I wasn't impressed with my soya and ginger glazed salmon which arrived as some noodles with some stir fried veg and some salmon on top, all very separated from each other and quite greasy. The service was slow but friendly. When my partner's main course arrived it was the wrong dish (a quesadilla which didn't resemble any quesadilla I'd seen before - it was also very greasy) which the staff spotted and sorted - it happens - no big deal, but they didn't charge us for the item that we had ordered which was very good of them. I also had a cheese board, which was good. Covid measures were excellent and there was ample free parking available. The standard of the food was disappointing but, to be fair, probably typical of what I'd expect for an eating establishment in a cinema complex. If it weren't for the refund I would rate poor. I wouldn't chose to eat here again.

We had the kickass chicken burgers as we usually do which were delicious and the cheesy garlic ciabatta which is very nice.As we had the cinema meal deal we were only given a paper menu, no drinks menu or starters? This is not the first time!Service still is not perfect but has improved since last time.They still didnt return to see if everything is ok with our meal or if we wanted more drinks. This is not the first time either!I didnt like the fact they wrte sitting everyone so close together when the place was only half full.It's the little things that make a place special, but still in need of staff training!Desserts are way overpriced at £5.95/£6.95, as they are small portions but taste nice.Good food but not great service!

First restaurant we visited after the lockdown.Very well organised and felt very safe.Excellent choice on the menu with a wide variety of food available.Staff very friendly and helpful.Food was beautiful and we have every intention of returning. Leisure complexes are places to go to be entertained: the food is normally just something to keep you from going hungry. If I want really good food I look for a stand-alone restaurant. Clearly there are often exceptions to the rules - and Oscars is one such. The lunch we had here was exceptional - way beyond anything we would have expected. Good menu, friendly and efficient service, beautifully presented food and really delicious. We chose it for its location - close to the beach with good views and we enjoyed these too!

Visited with friends for drinks and a meal, the service from start to finish was great, especially at these crazy times...the staff were all very attentive and helped create a relaxing experience. Would highly recommend a visit.

Myself, sister and her boyfriend decided to stop here for lunch. We expected a lunch menu instead had the main menu, food was obviously re heated and tasteless, salmon was tough and dry, linguine was bland and not as advertised on the menu. The mushroom starter was sickly and cheesy not as described on menu. The atmosphere was very unwelcoming. Staff seemed disorganised. We complained after the meal as we couldn't eat it, left feeling disappointed. We were not charged for our meals thankfully, as very over priced for such poor quality. Could of made a better meal at home. Not worth the visit. Avoid.

Been coming here for ages always once a week at least. Always buy food too so spend at least 20 quid a week. Usually i only pay for my older 2 kids and never had an issue but today was told i had to pay £2.95 for my 10 month old who isnt even walking. i understand charging from walking or a certain age like 1-2 but my baby is neither. Questioned it and was just told thats how it is. Place was empty as usual so i guess they need to start charging for use of their "play pen". Will be making the extra drive to creepy crawlies from now on. Bit of a joke to be honest. i know where i wont be having my son's 5th birthday.

I had been given a voucher for my xmas for a meal for 2 plus cinema tickets with popcorn and sweets. we hadn't been here for almost a year but used to love this place but things have changed, food wasn't the same as it used to be, we had the kickass chicken burgers but they werent as good as they used to taste and i didnt like the chips either!service wasn't great either as they never came to ask us if we wanted more drinks or take our plates away?so we left to go to the cinema but the popcorn wasn't very sweet, tasted out of date to me.things have gone downhill lately it seems?it used to be a favourite place of ours!

Asked for a table for 6, initially got cramped in to a small table for 4 before a waitress kindly offered to sit us at a bigger booth. Drinks orders taken and took 15 minutes to arrive, food order taken and was another 30 minutes before the starters arrived. A further 40 minutes after that before we had to ask a waitress if our food was coming because the 3 tables round about us who were seated a good 30 minutes after us were now on their desserts.4 of us had ordered their roast - 2 of the 4 ordering turkey and they sent lamb. After having to argue with the waitress that it was lamb and not turkey she took the plates back laughing? I didn’t want a replacement after that and asked them to keep it however my mum gave them a second chance and they brought out brown meat on a plate insisting it was turkey - it looked and smelled vile so again asked them to just keep it.The only person that apologised was a waitress who wasn’t even dealing with our table who to be honest, looked and sounded like she wasn’t surprised at what we were telling her which makes us think she must have to have these difficult conversations with disappointed customers regularly because of the lack of quality of food. I’ve now been in here around 5 times over the years and come to think of it, this is the 4th time I’ve had to send food back or just leave because the service is so slow.

Looking for a great breakfast at reasonable cost _ look no further Oscars serve a great breakfast. I have visited Oscars on a number of occasions and found their food to be good quality reasonably priced served by lovely proficient waiters/waitresses. Food is consistently good_ never had any complaints, well done Oscars

Had heard mixed reviews about this place. Well I can report the food service and price was excellent. Very nice intro from entering the door to being seated. In with 2 nephews who can be fussy eaters. 3 menus to choose from kids, 2 course special and main menu. I had burrito from main menu, I like it hot and wasn’t disappointed, nephew 1 had steak pie and marked it 9/10, other had sausage chips and beans from kids and gave 10/10, both gave same for chocolate fudge cake and ice cream. Service was 5 star and prices were good, left happy to see Star Wars

We booked this restaurant for a wee meal after watching the latest Star Wars film. The meals were lovely, perhaps a little too large for children's portions, but certainly filling and the Christmas menu was lovely.

Consistently high quality food and excellent service. This time for a Christmas meal. Highly recommended. Will be back soon.

Oscar's is a lovely place inside very welcoming, the staff weren't the quickest and at times seemed more interested in chatting to eachother than seeing to customers.. but they were pleasant when serving. I had the black pudding and haggis stack to start which was lovely my partner had the mozzarella sticks which were pretty bland I don't think they were fresh made. For mains we had the steak pie which was very good the turkey with all the trimmings ok but seriously lacking in seasoning. 2 courses and 1 drink each came to just over £37 which I felt was a little high for the quality of the food and service. We would probably go back but try different options and with lower expectations..

Have been here several times now and have to say we've never been disappointed, always welcoming staff, nothing is too much trouble, lovely meal each time and I've have something different each time.

Bought a deal on Groupon, it wasn't expensive so didn't expect too much.

Had lunch here, restaurant is very nice inside, with some lovely views and staff were friendly. There is a good choice of menu, we all had different meals and everyone enjoyed their choice. We will come back.

Visited here on Monday 18th, and doubt very much we'll be back. Nothing terribly wrong, apart from Steak pie gravy being "gloopy". I can't fault the service, place was immaculately clean. On leaving my wife asked why the specials advertised weren't available, only to be told " you have to find and book them online, we don't offer them here". I believe the polite word for this is "disingenuous". I'll put it down to experience.

Cracking service, table next to the window watching the sunset and wow I will be back for more of that Asian Sesame Chicken (very similar to kung po). Very nice atmosphere and very clean. Just one improvement could be the heating, bit cool.

went to this eating house prior to going to the adjacent cinema. Having been 3 or 4 times before and never submitted a review I thought I would write this review as the place really deserves a special mention. The food is nothing short of fantastic, the service staff are exactly the same very friendly helpful and eager to please. The establishment itself is very classy and nicely decorated and is just a real pleasure to dine there. The Cinema visit was also great as there were very roomy seats and this suited me better as I am over 6 foot tall. The entire cost of our meals was also very fair.

I often go to Oscars restaurant, with family or friends,for lunch or dinner. I really enjoy the Food, I just wish there were more choices that didn't involve spicy,nippy taste! The food is lovely, and I always enjoy whatever I've chosen.

My husband and I were in this restaurant last week and the waitress that served us was the same she was lovely great service..I wanted a cocktail the one I wanted she even ask me what glass and brought it to me to make sure it was right, she came back to ask if I enjoyed it as it is hard to make a Martini Expresso. Our meal again is made different Lasagna it was made like Italian make it perfect

Being a vegetarian I always struggle to find the veggie options on the menu as they are always limited. Oscar's veggie burger by far is the best veggie burger I have ever had. I would highly recommend the veggie burger to all the vegetarians visiting Oscar's. Great atmosphere, ideal for families. Great location by the see, perfect for a walk after big meals. Can't wait to go to visit again.

After my friend had eaten at Oscars yesterday I was talkingher she has been eating with her daughter and family at least once a week if not more for long time now. I jokingly asked if she had shares and she must have some amount of points on her card She didn't know what I was talking about Can't believe she has not been asked or told about this card as staff must know she is in there regularly between restaurant and picture house with her daughter. I have told Wendy to enquire and hopefully as a good will gesture give her her back points which she would have accumulated Cathy W

Spilled salt all over the table staff extremely kind and didn’t hold it against me one of the staff did tell me it would be a silly review to write definitely will go again

Me, my partner and kids came in on the Friday after a day at the beach. We thankfully got a table without a reservation.

Visited oscars this afternoon ordered the Sunday roast gammon gravy to thick and lumpy mildly warm and small portions on the plus side the brownie we had for sweet was quite pleasant wouldn't rush back. Men's toilets needed cleaned and the hand dryer wasn't working

Great cinema and good prices. Seats better than those overpriced multiplex cinemas. Shows new release films. Has also a restaurant attached to it that was heaving with customers, so must be popular. Big car park with views across to Arran.

I Went along with family and we all enjoyed our meals! I was chuffed to see a very tasty pea & asparagus Risotto on the menu! It was yum! Only issue was time keeping! We waiting ages as the young waitress got our order mixed up! We got 2 diet cokes for the mishap!

I was here last week during one of our monthly runs with the Scottish BMW club. We were sat in the area upstairs and there was a special menu, but with enough choice for everyone. Food was good, service was good and the price was fair.
