Excellent food and service. Had dinner twice at Oscars. A good selection plus nightly changed specials. Highly recommended

We were here as a group of 24 people after a ‘secret’ wedding in town (guests only found out 36hrs before). The staff were so patient ahead of the day with regards to changes in booking numbers as people said they could / could not attend the ‘family meal’ we’d booked. They agreed to not receiving the food orders in advance as they usually prefer to do for such a large booking to avoid arousing suspicion. On the day we were BLOWN AWAY by the efforts made to decorate the room & the table for us & our guests. It looked stunning! Again, the staff were very patient with us as they desperately tried to get our food orders around photographs being taken & hugs & kisses & what not. The day of the wedding was the first day of the new Autumn menu & everyone ordered whatever they wanted. The food was a roaring success!! I personally had the curried cauliflower soup, the ribeye steak & the sticky toffee pudding & can wholeheartedly recommend all three! But everyone raved about the food all evening. We were treated unbelievably well & with such patience for a loud & excitable group. To the young blonde lady who took our orders & looked after us most of the evening, I wish we’d got your name! You handled us with patience, grace & a friendly smile. I hope you received our gift to share amongst your colleagues. Gorgeous venue, fabulous staff, & simply amazing food. We will, without a doubt, be back for many anniversaries to come. Thank you for making our day so special. X

The menu looked promising and we were looking forward to this meal. Our bar drink had been a very pleasant experience sitting outside in the evening sun and the restaurant itself is an elegant space. However the food was mediocre at best. The root vegetable soup was all right but unexciting. Then we each made the mistake of ordering main course salads, which had too many boring leaves without much dressing and not enough of the more interesting sounding ingredients. More importantly my 'quinoa salad' was made with pearl barley with no quinoa anywhere. The waiter tried to deny it, then took it back to the kitchen and came back saying they would take the price off the menu as there was no quinoa in the kitchen. Well ok, but they should have owned up at the outset instead of trying to fool the diner. The hotel accommodation was good, incidentally.

Returned to Oscars as a kind gesture following an unfortunate experience. Glad we did . Food and service absolutely fantastic. Will be going back. Thanks again.

Wonderful meal with family for my daughters 21st birthday. The staff could not have been more helpful and always asking if we needed anything. They even went out of their way to take photos, cut up my daughter’s birthday cake and brought her a special birthday dessert. We all enjoyed our meals. Great service and a lovely evening.

My husband and I went to Oscar’s for our wedding anniversary and had a wonderful evening. The food was well presented, cooked wonderfully and tasted great. The staff were attentive and made sure everything was ok throughout the evening. We will definitely be going back!

awful service , short staffed. dumped in a back room for 80th . staff rude as very stressed. chaos ! left ages in between courses, dirty plates glasses etc still there as eating dessert, left ages again ..spoons dumped on end for us to dish out.. total farce ruined my mums 80th . cod was bland souffle was too and strawberry dessert portions very small on mushroom starter and panna cotta dessert .. very expensive mistake we wont make again!!

Waited an hour for our starters which when they came was OK but 2 scallops ???????? Waited ages again for mains my steak was inedible ,, and cold my husband ordered guinea fowl still not sure what it was to be honest would I visit again yes would I eat here a definite no definitely not ,,,, tip eat elsewhere ,,,

A while since we had been here and it was really lovely. The food, atmosphere and service were exceptional. We will definitely be back soon.

Really lovely afternoon tea in a perfect setting and then had a drink in the garden, was a perfect afternoon and we were very well looked after by Jordan, Katie, Laragh and Lou. Thank you all.

Visited this beautiful hotel today and enjoyed a splendid lunch. It was really well presented, very tasty and excellent value for money. We will definitely go back. The hotel and restaurant area are just beautiful. It’s a Lutyens property so I was really pleased to be able to visit and go in such a remarkable building. The head waiter was very welcoming and told us all about events and offers they have coming up in the future. Even though we don’t live to far away I think we will go back and enjoy an over night. The extra bonus is the hotel is next door to Furness Abbey . We will look forward to going back.

BF took me to Oscars for my birthday as a surprise. Its very posh and swanky, the waiters ran around and managed to serve every one really quick. Food is expensive but looks beautiful when it appears. We didnt stay over because I had a room in town but the stairs and entrance area looked amazing:) Food was not cheap and the wine was more than we normally pay but it was a special event ;) and was worth every penny.

Good food, and great service. Would have been a five star but the restaurant has moved to the conference room whilst they carry out renovations to the main restaurant. Now I’ve not been to the main restaurant pre renovation but the result felt like a bit of the atmosphere was lost. No fault of their own but could have been acknowledged by a cheaper menu or an amuse bouche etc. that acknowledged the inconvenience. If you live in the area I’d suggest waiting to come until the renovations are done.

Not our first visit and certainly not the last. Everytime we visit Barrow this is our destination. Came with some family and no one was disappointed. Atmosphere is relaxing and service amazing. Food as always delicious. Thank you again for another great visit.

Food was excellent, the beef wellington was exceptional also the Caesar salad, very much enjoyed the dessert which was blackberry cheesecake with blueberry ice cream. Hard to judge the atmosphere as it was very quiet despite it being early Saturday evening. Couldn’t fault the service. Would definitely consider another visit

Lovely meal as always .Went with family and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff were attentive and friendly. The surroundings and gardens are stunning.

Great venue amazing building… food and staff not the best. Starter of belly pork was inedible. Fatty and unrendered and crackling wasn’t there. Mains ok but nothing special for price. Waited 20 mins after ordering a bottle of wine for it to arrive.

Afternoon tea for five. Despite a delay in being served the afternoon tea was a delight. Lovely sandwiches & savouries. Beautiful scones and a wonderful selection of very tasty deserts. There was plenty to eat and we were provided with boxes to take home what we couldn’t manage. The manager was very attentive and excellent value for money. Wonderful setting and a lovely experience.

On entering the building I had high expectations, the bar and dining areas were lovely, unfortunately neither the food or service lived up to its surroundings. I had to ask for a wine list and ask for water on the table. We were served another tables main courses, before we received our starters and my main course arrived cold. I sent it back, only to return with a hotter plate but the duck was still cold. After finishing our mains the table was cleared, but we then sat there for over 30 minutes essentially invisible; no one asked us if we wanted dessert or if we wanted another glass of wine having sat with empty glasses for some considerable time. Overall, a very disappointing experience. I’m I would avoid….

Fantastic lunch and an unexpected treat in lovely surroundings. We are hoping to go back again tomorrow as we enjoyed it so much.

Im really unsure how a place like Abbey House can fall down so badly with poor service. Booked a table in the restaurant with friends and it took 3.5hrs to have a simple Sunday lunch. Food itself was good, but so let down by virtually non-existent service. Just a sample of the issues we had: * Greeted with confusion - staff couldn’t find our booking. * 25 mins (and lots of asking) to take our drinks order. Ended up ordering food at the same time as it was taking forever. Took 45 mins from arriving to get a drink and 1hr 10 to get our first course. A table which arrived after us was served quickly and left before we’d even battled to get a dessert menu! * Anyone we asked to order something from seemed unable to do it. Always someone else having to be sent over (ridiculous and lots of delays). * Seated with loads of dirty glasses piled up on the bar next to us from the night before. * Never having anything offered; would you like a drink, do you want desserts etc…lost count of the number of times we had to get up to the bar or call someone over. Nobody even checked if our meal was ok or if we wanted sauces etc. * Inexperienced young staff unsupported. No smiles or interaction. But nobody there to really model what should be done. One man was great (chatted to us, took orders, knew what he was doing) but he was clearly stretched trying to do lots of jobs himself. * Cocktails ordered without being able to see a menu; how do guests know the prices? * No idea what our bill was. We had to get up individually to pay as I don’t think it would ever have been brought over. 3.5hrs to have 2 courses and a couple of expensive drinks each. We’d happily have ordered more drinks but it was virtually impossible to get anyone to take an order and when we got up ourselves, it took so long for drinks to arrive, we gave up! Last visited years ago and had a similarly strange experience. What a shame the food and setting is let down by the service.

Actually had breakfast and dinner here but I've reviewed breakfast under the hotels name. Visited Oscars as staying at the hotel and the menu looked lovely. A few days before coming, the menu changed and I had a little panic - as you do! One of us will eat anything, and the other is a bit more particular, and there was only one thing on the mains they would eat. Anyway I needn't have worried - we both had soup to start with which was piping hot and prompt. The bread roll could have been a bit larger but that said, I was full at the end of the meal! Then one of us had the duck main (this was missing the endive nobody could explain why but hey ho) and the other had the steak burger. Both plates were wiped clean by the end and satisfied smiles on our faces. We didn't need dessert but have you even been away if you don't come back heavier - even if its just one night. Cheesecake and tart - both lovely and a nice sized portion. Staff were attentive but not intrusive.

Me and my husband recently dined in Oscar’s restaurant and it did not disappoint. I love to try things out of my comfort zone so decided to try the venison tartar. This was rich in flavor and beautifully presented. My husband ordered the fish cake which tasted so fresh and fluffy. For mains my husband ordered the jerk chicken burger with fries, this was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I opted for the loin of venison with chocolate jus. This was cooked perfect for me and the veg just how I like it. We were quite full by this point but thought rude not to order a dessert so decided to share the rhubarb & custard tart. You could tell this was all homemade (just like Nanna used to make). Staff were so attentive and you could tell they really love working at the hotel. Big shout out to rob and all the staff.

The service was slow. Drinks didn’t come for over half an hour and the order wasn’t correct. Staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Food was tasty and quite pleasant. Gluten free menu was very restrictive and the pre-ordered meals were not available. It turned out that half the regular menu was gluten free anyway (apparently).

Booked for nine persons for Christmas Lunch. What a disappointment. Given a table in poky unpleasant room with no atmosphere. Food despite being pre-ordered was slow to arrive. Limited choice on the festive table d'hôtel. Terrine dry and tasteless - Dry turkey served in a very strange way (?) Despite the two course menu being only £19 it was not worth it! Wine is exorbitant - Pretty much London prices (why?) Although we had a great time together, the meal certainly didn't contribute to our enjoyment. Once again another disappointing visit to this overrated establishment.

I had dinner with my young son whilst staying at the hotel, the restaurant and food were top quality. They catered to my son and made us feel so welcome. I would definitely recommend the restaurant and the staff were amazing!

Staff are very friendly and nice but let down by the menu and the food I am afraid. As a vegetarian, One starter and one main option is insufficient. This is the 21st century and we are trying to be more sustainable and eat less meat as a nation; this felt outdated and that you are an outsider who has not been taken into consideration if you do not eat meat. Furthermore, it was disappointing that there was no buffet breakfast still, we are over the covid pandemic now and table service just doesn’t cut it I’m afraid. Not when you get a thimble of juice only and feel bad for asking for more when they’ll staff are so busy.

Staff are efficient, polite but overworked! Food is of good quality and decent prices maintained within a lovely environment.

A beautiful place to have dinner, greeted on arrival and shown to our seats, I was very happy with the interior and looked very clean. We were given our menus and told the soup of the day and the fish of the day. I decided on the asparagus and ham and the beer battered fish, they were both lovely meals. I tried to have a desert but I was full. A very nice place to have a meal.

6 of us had a prebooked table informing the staff we had a diabetic diner as part of the family. the restaurant had 2 occupied tables when we arrived and a wedding.Service was very slow. we waited 45mins for salads and a burger. the caesar salad was lettuce leaves with caesar dressing and shredded chicken which was tough. The portions were small and very disappointing. The burger however was nice. The staff are very polite but you have to wave for attention if you need anything ie drinks. The setting is lovely but the dining experience was a letdown.More a wedding venue than a dining experience.With so many lovely eateries to choose from, we won't be back any time soon.

Very mediocre food- some cold. Had to wait over an hour for food to arrive in stages. A further 15 minutes for my sister in laws to arrive so we sat waiting and decided we’d have to eat. This hadn’t been cooked properly and was cold! Had to ask for cutlery as wasn’t provided. Kept being told food was being plated up when it clearly wasn’t. Very very poor and disappointing!

We visited for an evening meal on the weekend. The restaurant’s setting and decor are to a very high standard, creating a very nice ambiance. The food was well presented but unfortunately, relatively mediocre. I ordered the sea bass and it came as a single fillet which was overcooked. My desert, a sundae, was fairly average and could easily have been dressed up to suit the dining experience they are trying to achieve (a spoon which goes to the bottom of the bowl would be an easy fix). The waiting and bar staff were very professional and friendly. Overall: room for improvement.

I have recently been to Oscar’s on a number of occasions and cannot fault either the location or the staff.I visited again yesterday and once again the staff were exceptional and the view/surroundings were excellent.I was however really disappointed with the size of a recent price increases on the lunch menu.I had been twice in the last 2 months and had been recommending Oscar’s to everyone as the go to place for lunch, because of it’s setting, staff and value for money. The Recent menu changes made yesterday’s visit a little disappointing.I would still recommend Oscar’s for its setting and the service from the excellent staff, but no longer for value for money.(Example - closed prawn sandwich less than a month ago £6.50 (excellent ), yesterday - open prawn sandwich £8.00 (alright))I had assumed that Oscar’s menu selection and prices were designed to attract visitors, fill their tables at lunch and encourage evening bookings, however the lunch prices feel more in line with the evening meals now . The serving staff were faultless and I nearly didn’t write this review as I will go back because of them.

We stayed at the hotel and pre booked for dinner. Pre booking is definitely recommended well in advance given how popular the restaurant is. We had three courses each and two drinks. Expect overall to pay around £80-90 for two people on that basis. Dinner is superb, portions are reasonable (not comfort food excessive) given the fine dining esq. experience. Food was late in parts but the staff were attentive and provided some interim items to keep us going. Would definitely recommend a visit and more so for a special occasion.

We booked Oscar’s for a special occasion and the restaurant did not disappoint. They had a beautiful outdoor patio which set the mood for the evening. We absolutely loved the oak smoked salmon that featured caviar and squid ink vinaigrette and then slow cooked pork belly which was perfectly cooked. Would definitely come back again!

First date night of 2021 (bloody lockdown). Everywhere was co vid tables sepperated enough. The foos was divine I had cheese fondant, belly pork for main and banoffee sundae for dessert I could not fault it. My partner who is the fussiest person going had ham hock parfait, sausage and mash for main then chocolate sponge for dessert her only criticism was there could have been more gravy with the sausage. Waiting on staff were great. Wonderful evening will definitely be back

Excellent, we had previously found Oscars a bit hit or miss, but they seem to have upped their game and all the food was well presented and enjoyable. They have recently been awarded a rosette for the restaurant and it shows. Above average price but above average quality. Perhaps would have liked a little more choice on the menu and slight niggle that we had to wait for the wine we had chosen to chill in an ice bucket but we were in no hurry and apologies were offered.

Booked into Oscars while staying at the hotel as a guest. This was some of the nicest food I have ever had. Had an evening meal with my wife. We had mains and dessert. It was lush!We also had breakfast the next morning, probably one of the nicest vegetarian/ vegan cooked breakfasts I have ever had. Even if I couldn't get booked into the hotel as a guest, Oscars food alone it worth visiting for.

We ate in Oscars 3 nights out of a 5 night stay in the hotel. Every single dish we had was perfect & the service is the same, the staff are great & we had a good chat with them about our days hillwalking. Couldn't be any better, can recommend the Sunday roast, my wife had beef & I had lamb, each were delicious & plentiful. Top place, top people, nothing more to say really.

As we were staying at the hotel we decided on the first night of our stay to sample the food on offer based on the reviews.We were not disappointed and both the starters and mains were nice, I tried the Falafel burger (I’m not vegan but do like falafel) and it was very nice as was my mackerel starter. The better half enjoyed her soup and then chicken tagliatelle,however the two glasses of wine were a little expensive at £9 each, but my Corvoisier brandies and coke were better value at £5.Overall the quality of the meal was super and breakfasts on the two mornings were also very tasty and huge quantities.

Stayed at the hotel so booked dinner one evening. Could not fault the main meals, desserts expensive for what you got, but drinks very reasonable. Would dine here again.

Been to Oscar's many a time now as we love Abbey House hotel and they never disappoint. Service is always impeccable. They always make you feel really welcome and greet with a smile. Any issues that there might be they're always very upfront about it and apologise in advance to make sure they really manage your expectations. Having said that we've rarely had any issues there. Food is deliciousy and very reasonable price considering the quality of the food. Very good wine selection and good choice of local beers. Can't recommend this place enough

We enjoyed a great meal here while staying in the hotel. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely although the menu was limited due to Covid-19 restrictions. Thec5ables were well spaced apart and very covid safe.

Cenamos aquí con 4 amigos. Cuando estábamos ordenando, le hicimos a la camarera varias preguntas y cada vez ella tenía que volver a la cocina para obtener la respuesta, lo cual no me pareció muy profesional. La comida era buena, especialmente la panceta, sin embargo, no era mejor que otros restaurantes que he visitado. Desafortunadamente, probablemente debido al covid, no había atmósfera. Las mesas estaban muy separadas, lo que era de esperar, aunque estoy seguro de que podrían haber encajado más. Creo que este es un lugar excelente para bodas y la estructura del exterior del edificio es hermosa, pero obviamente debido a estos tiempos era simplemente un lugar para sentarse y comer en lugar de pasar una agradable velada.

Es recomendable reservar incluso si se aloja en el hotel, como estábamos nosotros, ya que el restaurante también está abierto a los no residentes. Menú reducido en la actualidad debido a las restricciones de Covid, pero sigue siendo muy bueno. La lubina estaba deliciosa. Además del restaurante principal, hay una sala de jardín muy agradable adjunta a la parte trasera de la casa con mosquiteros laterales que pueden estar arriba o abajo dependiendo del clima. Para las noches más frescas tiene calefacción. Las mesas estaban bien espaciadas y con hermosas vistas a los jardines.

Fantastic food, really classy and the best fish & chips I’ve had in my life. Good service and friendly staff, would deffo recommend.

Éramos una mesa de 6 y ninguno de nosotros podía quejarse de nada.Los entrantes eran todos hermosos. Los platos principales eran increíbles. Mi plato principal de panceta de cerdo fue la mejor comida que he tenido en mucho tiempo, tan buenos sabores y cocinada a la perfección. Todos los postres eran deliciosos acompañados de unos vinos y cervezas. El servicio fue muy atento pero sin entrometerse. Definitivamente lo recomendaría. ¡No puedo esperar a volver! !

Tuvimos nuestra primera comida después del encierro hace unas semanas en los Oscar. ¡Qué hermosa velada! El personal fue atento sin ser demasiado entrometido. Probé una botella de su blanco de la casa, acertadamente llamada 'Oscar' y, aunque suelo perder los vinos de la casa, fue una delicia.Compartimos un entrante porque ya habíamos comprobado nuestros postres y sabíamos que no íbamos a conseguir 3 platos cada uno. El queso de cabra quemado era delicioso y no demasiado pesado. Para platos principales tuvimos la pechuga de pollo y linguini. Linguini podría haberlo hecho con un poco más de condimento, pero eso es solo una preferencia personal. 2 possets de limón seguidos de cafés terminaron la velada.

6 de nosotros fuimos a los Oscar (terraza) para cenar temprano. (17:30 (Recepción bastante deprimente con solo otras dos mesas ocupadas: sin ropa de mesa, sin decoración de mesa, sin cubiertos, entiendo que esto se debe a que todo debe desinfectarse después de cada sesión, pero ciertamente puede poner velas, flores, etc., al menos en la mesa.Mal servicio: llegamos unos minutos antes y esperamos bebidas del infrecuente personal de servicio. Pedimos hacer un pedido y nos dijeron que el chef todavía está en un descanso (?) Preguntamos sobre los platos de GF y estos fueron difíciles de descubrir por el personal.Llegaron los entrantes - dos de nosotros teníamos un entrante de salmón - MINÚSCULOS trozos de pescado seco llegaron en hojas verdes flojas con un aderezo indescriptible - bastante pobreLa sopa estaba bienLlegaron los platos principales, dos estaban fríos, uno estaba tan frío que hubo que devolverlo.Vino muy caro para lo que era.servicio de segunda clase en el mejor de los casos y no lo que exLa factura estaba muy por encima de las probabilidades de la comida / servicio / ambiente que recibimosOtro miembro de nuestro grupo ya ha escrito al hotel sobre nuestra visita y le han dicho: "¡Gracias por la información, que tenga un buen fin de semana!" ! !De Verdad? se supone que es un establecimiento de 4 *? obtener una gestión de agarre. . .

Espera muy larga. Menú muy limitado. Servicio muy lento todo por un precio superior. ¿Qué más podrías no querer? Reservado para 2 noches, esta será la única noche que aguante esto. Ni siquiera obtienes un platillo cuando pides una taza de té. He tenido una mejor comida que la de Donald.

Me alojé en el hotel con la idea de salir a comer, pero mientras bebía en el bar temprano en la noche, noté la calidad de la comida que se servía y el control del precio del menú no estaba fuera del camino, el personal es excelente, muy atento y amable, esperamos visitar de nuevo cuando sea el próximo en el área

Al alojarnos en el hotel reservamos para cenar en el restaurante también. Muchas medidas de distanciamiento social y COVID están vigentes actualmente y todo el personal también usa máscaras faciales. Hay un menú bastante pequeño, sin embargo, la comida que tuvimos fue excelente y llena de sabor. Es más un lugar para parejas que para una familia, pero lo recomendaría para una buena cena.

Después de revisar las críticas, encontramos que Oscar's es uno de los restaurantes mejor calificados en Barrow. Desafortunadamente, nuestra noche dejó mucho que desear.Al principio, nuestro servicio fue excepcional y el vino especialmente delicioso. ¡Probamos un voigner chileno que era uno de los mejores vinos blancos que he probado en un tiempo! Nuestros entrantes eran grandiosos y sabrosos, traídos muy rápidamente y con una presentación encantadora.Después de eso, la comida fue cuesta abajo rápidamente. Envié mi plato principal porque tenía verduras poco cocidas, un kiev quemado, y estaba pidiendo a gritos algún tipo de salsa. Mi pareja disfrutó su pescado y patatas fritas, pero comentó que necesitaba mucho condimento. Envié mi espalda principal, pidiendo el linguini de hongos en su lugar. Recibí, lo que yo describiría, como una sopa con algo de pasta y champiñones recocidos. En este punto, nuestro servidor estaba tratando de evitar nuestra mesa, comprensiblemente. Los dos platos principales que recibí fueron muy decepcionantes y mis socios estaban bien. No hay nada que destacar.Esperaba con ansias nuestros postres, ambos pidiendo los possets con sorbete de gin tonic. El sorbete de mi pareja era deliciosamente alcohólico y un gran acompañamiento para el postre. De alguna manera, mi sorbete no sabía nada a g & t, más a melocotón. También descubrimos que la parte inferior de nuestras possets no estaba configurada en absoluto, que ni siquiera las galletas de mantequilla podían recoger y guardar.Una vez que pedimos la factura, nuestro camarero nos ignoró después de este punto hasta que fuimos al bar con nuestro recibo unos 20 minutos después de solicitar la factura. Entiendo que me sienta avergonzado, pero no creo que esta sea la forma adecuada de lidiar con la situación.En general, nos sentimos muy decepcionados con lo que obtuvimos de este restaurante. La comida estaba bien en algunas partes, pero en su mayoría pobre. El servicio se redujo drásticamente después de una queja, que no es la forma en que debe operar una empresa profesional. Teniendo en cuenta la belleza de la ubicación y su edificio, esperábamos más y muy decepcionados.Me siento muy desanimado por esta visita y por escribir esta reseña. Ojalá el equipo pueda mejorar para el futuro.

El personal hizo esta experiencia, no podríamos haber pedido un mejor servicio. Nuestro camarero Ben fue una delicia, recomendó las mejores opciones para la cena de mis amigos: le daríamos 5 estrellas.La única razón por la que esto no es más alto es que la comida vegana era bastante insípida.

Nos alojamos por 3 noches y comimos en los Oscar cada noche. La comida era deliciosa y bien presentada.El servicio fue bueno, no excelente, pero creo que todos nos estamos acostumbrando a la "nueva normalidad". Algunos errores aquí y allá, pero todos rectificados con una disculpa y una sonrisa. El único problema que tuvimos fue que el personal se cubrió la cara de manera incorrecta. . . si los usan, deben cubrirse la boca y la nariz, ¡no solo la boca!La comida tiene un precio razonable, pero las bebidas son un poco caras.Estaremos encantados de volver a comer aquí, si visitamos

Nice welcome on arrival and very impressed with the building and surroundings.Nice comfortable seating and good table location.We were made aware that it was our waitress first night working .Service was good and had a total of four different servers during the meal.Food was very good and well presented.Cheese and biscuits selection was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed with a nice glass of red wine .Only disappointment was that after finishing the meal and having time to finish our drinks ,we sat for a good twenty minutes with no offer of further drinks or acknowledgement until catching the eye of a member of staff to settle the bill .Overall though , definitely worth a visit and would recommend to anyone wanting to eat in a very nice environment

Food was cooked very well...flavourful. We had spaghetti Bolognese-kids had meatballs, I had salmon. Loved it. Wished they as more choice, not sure if reduced Menu due to covid

We were the residents at the hotel therefore dined here for breakfast and dinner. Can honestly say the food was amazing. The service was great with attentive and polite staff. Top tip is to ensure you make a reservation as the restaurant gets fully booked pretty quickly. It was a pleasure to dine here.

The food in Oscars is absoultly second to non attention to detail the breakfast is fab and a great choice for meals again they will change things its of the vest quality

We went for a two course meal , the starters were nice and we both enjoyed. However, for the main I had a burger which was over cooked and tasteless and for a burger which cost £16 you’d except much better . The service was okay but the mains were not checked on or asked how they were at the end of the meal . Overall experience was disappointing to say the least considering the price of the meal.

Food was really good as were the drinks including cocktails. Definitely recommend, especially if staying at the hotel

My partner and I had our anniversary during lockdown so had travelled to Barrow-in-Furness as an belated anniversary Getaway. The setting was lovely, eating outside in the gazebo area.We both ordered the crispy squid for starter which was delightful, such lovely flavours and the squid was one of the best I’ve had! For main my partner had the burger and chips. The chunky chips were the right balance between crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. However the burger was a bit dry and crumbly. I had the beef bourguignon which was absolutely delicious. The mash was lovely and creamy, the greens were soft and delicious, and the beef was so tender! Such a lovely meal!For dessert we treated ourselves to the brownie and sticky toffee pudding. Safe to say it was scrumptious as it was gone in seconds!A huge thank you to the staff who worked so hard and were so friendly, making our meal just perfect! (Especially in these strange times) thank you all! Such a lovely evening!

Disappointed to be honest. Says on the menu they can make the dishes vegan, was also told by the restaurant they could make a particular dish vegan, when we got there and ordered I was informed they couldn't and had to go with a soup which wasn't that bad.Main was also disappointing, basic risotto, so ordered a side of chips. For £60 I think it was a complete rip off.Breakfast I had ordered 2 vegan breakfasts. Turns out they had no margarine... I have been to countless old restaurants, pubs, bars and they're always managed to have margarine, suitable for vegans!To top it off the breakfast was awful, scrambled tofu was literally mashed up silken tofu with zero seasoning, and the alternative "sausage" was a fried vegetable and potato shaped cylinder. Absolutely gutted, I wouldn't really complain if I was going to a pub or an inexpensive hotel but this is 4 star, this was meant to have won awards and it specifies that they provide vegan options which in my opinion is a bit of a lie.I would have understood if this was a couple years back when finding meat/dairy alternatives was hard but we're at the point now where big chains like wetherspoons can provide a decent vegan breakfast and main. Also what about lactose intolerant? It's not just vegans too..

My family and I recently enjoyed a fantastic evening in Oscars Restaurant. Food was to a very high standard and service was excellent. We had a great evening in a very stylish restaurant - highly recommended!!

We were staying at Abbey House on a special deal. So we had Afternoon Tea, our evening meal & breakfast the following morning all in Oscar's. All were excellent.The afternoon tea was lovely - not over facing. The couple next to us had a portion of chunky chips with theirs & if we had not have been coming back for our evening meal that would have been a good tip, but that also depends if you haven't eaten since breakfast. For our evening meal we both had the belly pork - it melted in your mouth & required no chewing, very tasty & I am salivating again just writing this - highly recommended. Breakfast is buffet style, but you also order hot food which is all cooked fresh. You'll not want lunch if you go for the full English, easily saw us home.The service for all 3 meals was very good and despite there being a function on in an adjoining room in the evening we were never left too long. The food was brilliant for all three & yes highly recommended. Looking forward to being back in August.

Oscar's is a small restaurant, with good food, and hard working and attentive staff were nothing was too much trouble.

We had a wonderful meal in Oscar’s the night before our wedding for our overnight guests. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful and it was great for us to have both sides of the family together the night before the big day. We had the Al Fresco area booked for our 23 guests and it was wonderful and warm even for December. Thank you Oscar’s!

I came here with my husband and Grandad for a New Years Day lunch.The hotel itself was absolutely stunning and was so beautifully decorated for Christmas. The restaurant had a lovely relaxed feel and again can’t rate the setting and deco highly enough.We were greeted by friendly staff and sat down at our pre-booked table. I think you could have just walked in and got a table but booking is recommended if you can.My husband and I ordered a chicken and bacon ciabatta which came served with chips. These were lovely. The only thing I would say was that the top part of our buns were over toasted and there was virtually no mayo so a little dry. My Grandad ordered an Oscar’s burger which he said he was absolutely delicious and he was particularly pleased with the quality of the meat. Service was friendly just very slow. Drinks took a while to come and we did want puddings after our meals but no one came back to us so we didn’t in the end.Overall the hotel was beautiful and we would most definitely come back.

Visited here boxing day for lunch. Very disappointing (and mine especially was inedible) meals for all our party except my 3 year old who had chicken nuggets and chips which you can't really go wrong with. Soup starter was a bowl of chunky vegetable oil water, best thing about it was the warm roll. Turkey main was horrendous, fatty, no potatoes, just rooted carrots, Parsnips and Sprouts and an anaemic pig in blanket. Husband had a bone in his turkey meal. So bad I changed my meal as I couldn't eat it and to be fair the waitress was very accommodating and changed it for a burger which was bland. For a party of 5 and spending £102 the food is shockingly bad and over priced. Even the waitress commented saying "the turkey hadn't gone down well that day"..... How's about don't serve it at all especially when they charge £15 for it. Will not be returning.

Went here for my son's 21st Birthday meal, never been before ,but would definitely return. Fantastic setting ,and friendly welcome . Very professional attentive staff who looked after us from start to finish . The food was well presented and delicious. Steak was cooked to perfection and was delicious. All courses were delicious, and our party had a varied range of meals . Very busy as it was Christmas week , and a wedding on , but there were plenty of staff who worked very hard to make sure everyone got treated well. Special mention to the Italian gentleman who was front of house , he is a gem , sorry I can't remember his name , but he was a star and is a credit to the restaurant.

We ordered Beetroot & Orange with Crispy Goats Cheese which was delicious, beautifully presented, tasted as good as it looked and no Foam! Result!. We also ordered Ham Hock Terrine which was soooooo good hardly any terrine, just lots of ham and the pineapple Jam and egg yolk were just genius. For mains We had fillet steak with Blue Cheese sauce and proper amazing chips. We also had the Pork Belly and I was literally in heaven. It melted in the mouth but still crispy on the outside. Simply the best pork belly ever. The sides were equally perfect. Its was all so good, we decided to write this review whilst waiting for pudding and we have ordered three because the choices were just too dam good. We ordered Warm White Choc Brownie, Apple tart tatin and that school favourite steam syrup pudding with Creme anglais (not quite school custard). Cant imagine for one second they won't be outstanding. This is our new regular haunt. Expect us back.

The restaurant interior is fresh and welcoming. Staff are friendly but not intrusive. The main courses were tasty and plentiful- I had lasagne and my husband the ribs. Only bug bears were there was a really cold draft where we were sat every time the door opened - I had to put my coat on, also starter of breads and olives didn’t come with any oils, etc and main came before we’d finished the starter. Minor quibbles but easily fixed. Would still go back.

Superb service, great choice of food on the menu, I had 8oz rump, my partner pave of cod. No issues at all as my partner is coeliac and they were so well informed that she felt looked after. Would definitely come again.

We had a beautiful lunch at Oscar's today. The restaurant is cosy and welcoming. The waiting staff were faultless, friendly and efficient. We loved our meals and spent an unhurried and most enjoyable couple of hours on a miserable day. Will definitely visit again
