Small and charming restaurant, attentive service. Decor, menu and staff make Oscar’s the perfect place to have a memorable dinner. The food was excellent and the cote de boeuf was to die for. Would definitely recommend Oscars. we' d happily return .

Step into France at its finest. Decor, menu and staff make Oscar’s the perfect place to relax with friends, family and loved ones. Our server for the evening (Phillipe) was courteous, helpful and made our evening fantastic. His knowledge of the menu and wine pairing was top draw. The food was very good and the steaks were to die for. I’d happily return and planning my next visit soon.

We booked over a month in advance because Oscar's was recommended and we were told it gets busy on a Saturday night. On arrival we were shown upstairs to a very hot room (with two fans) where we were seated up against the fireplace between a table of 4 and a table of 6. There were 25 seats in the room, approx 4 square metres. If I leaned back my head hit the mantle piece and my wife's seat was nudged every time anyone went to the table of 4 because of a man sat on the end of a table for 5 right next to her. My souffle was nice but I felt completely boxed in. My wife got fed up with being barged and we asked to be moved. Luckily a table had now become available downstairs, much cooler. Then we had a problem with the wine order, I thought the restaurant was trying to short change me but it was a misunderstanding by the waiter, who seemed to be new and completely out of his depth. The waitress (a sixth former, Mary I think who was excellent) came and sorted it out. She was the only person who seemed to know what she was doing. There was one other front of house man who seemed very stressed. We had a decent steak. When our bill arrived it was wrong. All in all a not at all enjoyable experience and fairly expensive. Would I go back, no. Would I recommend, no, but the food was nice.

Quite simply, you’d be hard pushed to find a better steak and chips anywhere in the country for the same price as a Nando’s.

Main course was really good , starters ok but ……the cheese was definitely not as advertised & even worse , the waiting staff didn’t know , understand , We were promised a selection including ,Langres & Comte. Neither appeared on the plate & no one could explain this , or indeed try to identify these cheeses ( they weren’t there, so they couldn’t) 🤣 Don’t treat your customers as ignorant oafs. Just deliver what is on your nenu & if you can’t , explain why not.

We visited Leamington yesterday and my husband found the reviews online for Oscars. We booked our table in advance about an hour before we ate. The restaurant has a very cosy feel and has a lovely French vibe. We ordered from the fixed price lunch menu. I had pate, OH had garlic mushrooms to start. For main we both had the flatiron steak, with frites, mushroom and rocket with pancetta. I’d never had the flatiron steak before and was worried it would be like a minute steak but I couldn’t be more wrong . It was possibly the best steak I’ve ever had…. Thick, juicy and packed with flavour. We also both had a bitter dark chocolate delice topped with coffee ice cream. Fab! The total for our two meals…? £60!! What fantastic value for money and good to see it packed out. I will definitely visit here again when we come this way.

Took my wife there for dinner and we loved it so much I just had to go back, so I took my daughter there for lunch and she loved it too. Excellent, unpretentious place, absolutely beautiful food, cooked to perfection, brilliant service by knowledgeable, friendly and professional staff and great wines in spotlessly clean glasses, clean cutlery, not to mention crisp white tablecloths. It was like going back 20 years to when you were valued as a customer by small independents, at Oscar’s, you still are. 100% recommended.

This gem of a restaurant has became our favourite place. From the welcoming staff, incredible champagne & food we cannot fault it we have been 4 times now and each time we have nothing but positive things to say. We were celebrating a friend’s bday and opted for the set menu. I would not have booked that if it meant you were treated as the poor relations 1. Portion sizes were tiny - I mean 4 pieces of beef in the stroganoff, tiny blob of mash and nothing else! 2. The desert could not have been any smaller - my partner’s was boxed and he had it thrown at him - it bounced onto the floor & although clearly an accident, no apology or offer of replacement! 3. No one returned to the table to ask if we wanted a second drink 4. No one offered coffee despite every other table having it 5. Staff were rushing past us like there was no tomorrow All in all very disappointing service and it’s the first time I’ve left a restaurant very hungry!

Early supper due to young person in group. Table upstairs, everything fine apart from having perhaps one too many tables for size of room. Just too close together and hard to get seated. Food was of course very French , most of our party had steaks…the lack of conversation during the main course summed up the deliciousness, my cod steak dish was divine and perfectly cooked. Excellent venue.

We felt rushed from the start, given the wine menu and asked what we wanted before we’d even sat down. Set French meal - lovely for the husband’s birthday I thought. How very disappointing. Cream cheese with a variety of lettuces for a starter, dessert crossed out on the menu, but no alternative given - were we going to have a dessert or not? Wait and see. Hadn’t finished eating the starter when the plates were take away. Lots of French bread the menu said - the bread basket wasn’t replenished and it wasn’t tip top fresh. The main course of confit duck leg, lentils and carrot was excellent. Dessert arrived a sort of Eton mess - very English, not French. So having been rushed throughout we asked for the bill and then waited, then gave up as the waiter was too busy flirting with other customers, so we left our table and paid downstairs, sadly this waiter was not surprised at our comments. I had high expectations, so very disappointed, won’t be going there again. Rather spoilt birthday treat.

I went with friends for dinner mid week. I ordered the chicken liver parfait and it didn’t come with melba toasts or bread (see pictures). No one came to ask if our meal was ok after serving, so I used the baguette bread from the basket at the table. The main course was Duck with potatoes. The duck was great, the meat was cooked beautifully but the potatoes were well over cooked; I couldn’t use my folk to lift them from the plate as they were hard and the flavour was burnt. Again, no one came to ask if everything was ok with our meal until we received the bill. The waiter was lovely and polite, but the quality of food was a bit disappointing.

I never left a bad review on trip advisor before. But the customer service was SHOCKINGLY bad. My friend recommended this restaurant and so we booked a table for 2pm on a Saturday. It’s quiet some distance from our house and a few roads were closed so we arrived at 2.04pm and the restaurant looked closed. We knocked, tried to open the door, called, knocked again, called again and then, at 2.09 I emailed. But nothing. No answer, no email response. Disappointed, we just found somewhere else to eat. Then today, 3 days later I had a call from Oscars. I assumed they were calling to apologise, and sometimes emergencies happen don’t they? I had heard good things so I answered and thought I would try and book again for the future. Nope. He was calling to blame me. Apparently, when we were not there at exactly 2pm they closed the restaurant and went home for the day. The restaurant opening hours are 12-3pm. But they were already gone by 2.04pm when we arrived. He told me I should have called to tell him we were running late. No apology for not honouring our reservation. He was rude and disrespectful. Life is too short for rubbish restaurants!

A little disappointing but maybe we ordered wrong things. It was, I think, a mistake going to a 'steak House' and not ordering the steak. The staff are attentive and service is goodThe starters are a little uninspiring and were, in my view, not easy or obvious pairings with the main courses.Wine list was limited and uninspired with little (no?) Attempt to match it to the menu on offer.Value for money was adequateGiven the excellent reviews I had high expectations, but really this is pretty run-of-the-mill bistro stuff. Supermarket baguette and olives, package starters, package desserts. I took the waiters advice when torn between lamb and steak. I should have gone for the steak! The lamb was very fatty and was overcooked for my taste. The vegetables appeared like they were precooked and heated to order, but maybe that was just a timing issue in the kitchen. The Hake looked boil in the bag but was well cooked and nothing was left!Overall a solid 3 but I'm disapointed I did not order the steak which other reviews suggest is where this little resteraunt make its name.

Our first chance at a date night after 4 months? Where else would we go? Being such a tiny place, I wondered how they would cope with re opening logistically. Seriously these guys could not do more to make you welcome and safe. We were not rushed, we still had brilliant personal service from Pascal and the team, and his wine recommendations were on point- as always. Serving classic dishes like Chicken Liver Parfait, Steak and Crème Brule - nailing every single one. Yes, there are less tables, and some would say the atmosphere is different- but the world is different now, and we as regulars and decent people should do everything in our power to keep our favourite independent places alive- creating atmosphere is our job. I feel cross sometimes because people so often want to tell you if a place gets it wrong- so rarely do they shout how well people do. So, Oscars- I take my hat off to you. In this anxious crazy time, you’ve managed to keep your heart, and its pumping. There aren’t many places that genuinely care about your safety- but still cater for your palate. Go there- you will not be disappointed.

I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I had the first bite of my starter of wild mushrooms and toasted sour bread, I literally did not want that plate of food to end! Mains I had the sharer steak with my husband..... Cooked perfectly and just melted in your mouth. I can't wait until our next visit and can't recommend this place highly enough!

Oscars have risen to the challenge of re-opening during the current situation. All necessary measures in place but handled in a calm, measured, friendly and discrete way. Waiting staff wearing visors so you can see their faces, correct distancing between tables and bookings timed so no rushing and no overlapping. On the ground floor, where we ate, there were only 12 diners at any one time. Background music was not intrusive so no voices raised. As to what I ordered , my personal observation was that the accompaniment to the potted mackerel (excellent) of new potato salad with horseradish had no horseradish flavour or seasoning and the potato was left whole. Also my main plaice dish was far too buttery, no caper flavour. The new potatoes that came with it would have been better off steamed rather than over fried in a lot of oil and the asparagus (as described on the menu as asparagus only) was chopped up and mixed in with a medley of other green veg. Other than that the rest of the meal was very good - my friend's mushroom starter (excellent) and sirloin steak main. We shared the desert of lemon tart with raspberry coulis - always a good choice at Oscars. Wine excellent. This restaurant has become a great Leamington institution over the years but shouldn't rest on its laurels from the past. It now promotes itself as a great steak restaurant (it has been owned by an award winning local butcher for some years) but this shouldn't be to the detriment of other meat, fish and veg options. The prices are quite high for the area (used to be more affordable - I will never forget a faultless lunch on the autumn of 2013 including a twice cooked cheese souffle executed to perfection) and lovely cod main) . The current situation shouldn't excuse this, and if it is a problem, then the menu should be priced accordingly.

I think the review below must been eating in a different restaurant… We’ve been to Oscars a number of times over the years as we live locally. We’ve never been disappointed, but this time it was something else!!My wife’s mushroom starter was phenomenal, the best mushrooms on toast I’ve ever tasted. My chicken liver parfait starter was excellent also, but that’s not surprising when it comes from the butchers round the corner. We both had steak for main; cooked perfectly, chips excellent and lovely café the Paris butter.Desserts did not disappoint either. A lovely delicate crème brûlée for myself and a passionfruit mousse for my wife.We were little bit nervous about dining out after such a long period of not being able to. We needn’t have been. The restaurant seems to put in place good procedures for maintaining distances and cleanliness.A lovely experience all round!!! Thank you.

The positives. Good service, table setting lovely and covid 19 ready. Food tomato soup & bread goodThe negatives. Rest of food awful. My sisters main course was dried up chicken (we think breast) the saffron rice had all the vegetables on top so mixed through yuk!!My starter mushrooms on sour dough bread tasted ok but the smell was awful so put me off. My main gnocchi with vegetables was grim. The gnocchi was under cooked like mush and with the vegetables look bad. We didn’t bother with a desert, who would. The chef should be embarrassed at sending out food like that if that’s the best he can do. He probably isn’t trained. Leamington spa has strong competition in the hospitality sector so this restaurant needs to watch out. It has been in leamington for years. But!!!!

Fantastic food and service. Found this hidden gem whilst working and staying in Warwick. Managed to walk in on a Wednesday evening and get a table for 2 people.Best steak I have ever eaten (bone in ribeye - medium with all the trimmings).Occasionally you come across these independent restaurants that really care about what they do and the food they present to you.

My wife and I managed to get a table today during what looked like a rather busy lunch, a few big parties going on so we were happy to be fit in!Service was a bit slower than our previous visits (as to be expected) but the owner was very charming and the food was truly wonderful. Well worth the wait!

Went today with a group of friends for Christmas Lunch. The food was ok, I’ve had better elsewhere but the service was very slow & not very Christmassy, no crackers or anything for Christmas. Hardly any vegetables with the main course & the few we had were rock hard. Also no cranberry sauce ( they didn’t have any). Meal was just average, can’t say more!

Must say best food we have had in a while however language from the kitchen in proximity to us spoilt it a little ..... genuinely tasted 100% though

Excellent service. Attentive French and English waiters. Free glass of champagne to start proceedings. Menu very French pea and parsnip soup unusual. Desserts presented very well. Lasagne left was parcelled up as a swan to take home

Went on a Tuesday night for their fixed ‘Auberge’ menu. Cosy atmosphere typical of an authentic French bistro (Cafe Rouge it is not, thankfully). Food and service both excellent and unpretentious and the place was packed for a Tuesday night. High Street restaurant chains could learn a thing or two about how to satisfy customers by doing things simply, but excellently. Starter (Ham Hock terrine) and main course (steak) both superb, washed down with a carafe of red wine and finally a lemon posset for dessert. Bill didn’t break the bank and will definitely be back. Why can’t there be more places like this?

Definitely my go to restaurant when dining in Leamington. It's cosy and intimate without being crowded. Great food, that caters for steak lovers (Aubrey Allen steak!!) but fish fanatics and veggies! Regular menu changes so there is always something new to try.

I had the pleasure of dining here one evening and I was transported back to a little french bistro you would find in any french village. From start to finish the service, ambience and food was 10/10! Even down to Isabelle Boulay’s album (one of my favourite quebequoise artists) being played in the background! Mussels to start followed by whole fish in butter and a side of potatoes. Rustic, delicious, full of flavour and would recommend to everyone!

I have visited Oscars on many occasions now and I have never been disappointed. Eaten from both the main menu and the excellent value auberge menu which they run on a Tuesday, the food had always been amazing and the service is impeccable. I’ll definitely visit again.

Beautiful food as always at Cote. Also got a birthday card and bottle of fizz which was great. Service was a bit slow but it was super busy with Christmas parties.
