Orrery in City of London, Westminster

I was at wedding party of my friends on 11/04/24 We had great time at The Orrery! Amazing service, food and atmosphere. Thanks to the kitchen team for delicious and hot food, hot plates, amazing mash potato and medium steak. Thanks to the attentive staff for the atmosphere. Some of staff looked anxious , but you are doing so good guys, don’t worry! 5 stars for everything on that evening!

Potentially the best beef I’ve ever eaten. Service was amazing too.

We booked for a set menu for a Thursday evening which is 50£ for 3 course meal and a cocktail which seems like a great price. Unfortunately we couldn't make it on our booked date due to food poisoning and rebooked to a Saturday a week later. All seemed fine until we arrived and suddenly the pre booked 3 course meal was not available on that day, a simple 2 course meal cost 58 pounds which is very steep comparatively. Service was ok but with unexperienced staff. They did offer a complimentary cocktail but when your final bill is almost 200 pounds despite have 2 2 course meals and 2 glasses of house wine and a glass of Prosecco it all seems a bit absurd. Note that they have a cover charge on top of their service charge which adds up to 30£ just in service charges. Good food but service and communication was disappointing.

I am intending to have lunch here and feel very happy both food and services.

Marvellous dining experience at Orrery. We had our anniversary dinner at Orrery and tried their Chef’s set menu. It costs £50pp before 13.5% service charge, with complimentary sparkling wine. They also apply £15 supplement on a few dishes. The service was outstanding, so we were very pleased. The Foccacia and soup were tasty, the butter glides nicely on the warm bread. I had the Dorset crab salad, it was beautifully plated and rich of flavour and I absolutely loved the Mango bits. My husband was delighted with his Lamb and Seafood ravioli with Lobster bisque. The seafood flavour definitely very distinctive and it made the sauce richer. Fantastic dining experience.

The restaurant is beautifully located on the quiet end of High Street in Marylebone, and the restaurant itself is a lovely set-up. Airy, light, modern, and elegantly furnished. We had the 3 course option where I had selected the beetroot tart for starter, shared a lamb shoulder for the main, and had the cheese course for dessert. The portions were very generous, and each course was delicious and plated beautifully. However, the combination on the main was rather questionable. The jus that accompanied the lamb and its sides were lovely. Then appeared a generous amount of harissa, placed on the side of the plate. Again, the cheese course was generous, but the positioning of the cheeses and therefore the order of consumption were not appropriately placed, resulting in stronger cheeses being consumed before milder ones. The biggest observation was the professionalism of the waitstaff. Being asked if we would like drinks to start with no menu provided and suggestion of a bottle of wine that cost twice as much as the initially ordered one, as the chosen wine was "only available at lunch" - the suggested bottle's quality was not worth £90 IMHO! During conversations with my friend, the waiter would step right in between us to serve the wine rather than stepping to each side of us to refill our glasses, so conversation was continuously interrupted. The most ridiculous moment was when waitstaff brought out a steam iron with guests in the restaurant, and they proceeded to iron. All that I've mentioned would seem an overreaction to such trivialities, but when the cost doesn't reflect the service and refinement, it needs to be raised. Half the items on the menu, which seemed like normal dishes incurred questionable supplementary costs. Overall, the experience wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. There's room for improvement, and if The Orrery manage to reach that next level, then whatever the prices, it will definitely be a more satisfactory experience.

Always fabulous great food and excelleent service

The only thing we didn’t really know is that the restaurant bills us the table cover charge and also charges extra sauce for steak which it has already charge extra £15 supplement on the lunch menu, even the food and service are both good anyway.

Flavours are amazing, service very engaging. Great place in a very chilled part of London.

We had preciously went to Orrery as a family and really enjoyed it. So yesterday we decided to invite friend for a very special dinner and host them at Orrery. For a Saturday night, it was almost empty which was a bit awkward and questionable. The service was helpful but nothing special. The food was what surprised us. Previously we were very impressed by the food but yesterday the starter and the main dish were lower than our expectations for such a value. Especially the desert - we ordered panna cota and couldn’t even eat it after taking a bite. Overall it was disappointing because we really wanted to host our guests at a special restaurant and it didn’t live up to the expectations.

Great food, customer service and a nice menu with each dish cooked well and a lovely wine list too. The cheese tasting experience for dessert is very good and the staff are very knowledgeable and passionate. Love this restaurant and definitely one of my favourites in Marylebone and for special occasions.

Lovely place but very expensive for what it was! Starter and desert good but salmon main bit underdone for my taste. Quite disappointed as we we’re looking really forward to it .

Delightful - a delicious meal; a lovely warm atmosphere whilst still being able to hear each other speak; beautiful setting and professional, friendly service (especially when attending to the needs of those with allergies). Would thoroughly recommend.

I went with my sister in law for lunch. The service was impeccable, the staff were all very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing as always. It is a very comfortable restaurant, light and airy, the sun even came out. At the end of the meal my sister in law was given a Happy Birthday plate with lovely complimentary chocolates on. Will definitely be back

The food was fabulous, and we were tempted by all the more expensive things so it was not cheap. But everything delicious and generous portions. Good wine list, also not cheap but excellent choice. Service attentive but not intrusive. It got busy so noise level went up but we were able to have a conversation all evening. No pressure to leave.

This restaurant manages to feel local and offer fine dining experience in equal measure. Front of house are knowledgeable and helpful - atmosphere airy and sumptuous. The cuisine fabulous, the wine offering and house recommendations delicious - it is my favourite.

Had a wonderful night here. We tried the tasting menu, everything was so tasty and the wine was great- would recommend. Service was exceptional. The restaurant itself was a nice layout however something was missing, it was quite quiet and not a lot of people were dining but I'll put this down to it being a Monday night.

The dining experience was fantastic. We enjoyed all the courses and the attentive service was professional and great.

We had a most enjoyable evening in convivial surroundings. The restaurant is very comfortable and the service was excellent. The food was delicious, although we were disappointed at the number of supplements which increased the overall price quite significantly. We will come again as this is now one of our favourite restaurants.

Sublime food. Excellent choice of wines .....buying by the carafe helps the budget.

Food was divine however staff did not seem very friendly besides our main waiter. The price for food was quite good until i saw the price for sides which is too much. Overall though the whole experience was nice.

Orrery is an excellent restaurant, delicious food, perfect service, beautiful views. We have been coming to this restaurant for several years it is consistently outstanding . First choice when we are entertaining

Bread/butter and starter of chicken parfait, with a shot of warm French onion soup on the side was a spectacular start to the meal. Ordered the duck breast for main. When the waiter brought it to the table he poured the sauce all over the food without asking, or just placing it at the side of the dish to let me use. The port wine sauce was far too strong and ruined most of the main course for me. Staff otherwise were great and was a nice tranquil atmosphere.

I had been considering dining at Orrery for a long time and only wish that I had been more proactive. What a wonderful time I enjoyed with my friends on my visit there. From the time we entered the dining room and were greeted so enthusiastically, we felt special and the waiting staff continued to make us relaxed. The food was wonderful and not expensive. We shall be returning there on our next visit to London.

The food was okay but nothing exceptional and very poor value for money.

Marvellous to eat in a quiet atmosphere and in comfortable chairs. Fixed price menu good but choice somewhat limited and prices for sides extortionate and menu should be varied more often. Service excellent.

We both have the same dish : Parfait with chicken Sea bass We both been very sick on our way home . The service was very slow . The starter was a chicken Parfait , the toast was cold and the parfait was itself wrapped in a fine crunchy layer . Not a good association. The sea bass was well balanced but we did not like the artichoke, too hard and too big .

I never fail to be impressed with the restaurant. There is always a creative food offering, perfectly cooked and outstandingly presented. The attention and service is second to none. It is a place to go back to.

We have eaten at Orrery many times and in terms of food, yesterday's was the best we have had. Altogether, a very good and most enjoyable occasion. The only reason we only gave a 4 for Value was the service charge which is now 13.5% and the wine which, albeit good, is very pricy. Andrew and Julia Taylor.

Bit sterile - we arrived at 7.45 pm , sat night , place almost empty. Food is certainly nice but not extraordinary . Shame they weren’t doing the chef menu on sat ( we thought that’s what we booked it , our error but was not explicit) .nice but would not return

Great food but the service was extremely lacklustre and disappointing for a restaurant with this food quality and pricing - e.g forgetting to give out menus or take food order.

We had the tasting menu. This falls into the category of you get what you pay for. Every course was wonderful. No hesitation of going back and having the same again. An enjoyable evening with top quality food, professional and friendly service.

I took my partner here for his 50th. It was an absolute shambles. When booking the restaurant I notified them I have an allergy to chillies. When picking items from menu, I ask which dishes I could eat & explain I have allergy to chillies. We waited ages for starters to arrive. My partner's starter finally came & the waiter informed me the starter I ordered had chillies, plonked the menu infront of me to indicate I had to pick another dish. Meanwhile, my partner picked at his starter which was cold & underseasoned. We didn't say anything as I was already having difficulty with the waiter... I asked which starter could I have, i.e. didn't have chillies. He told me, "wait," marches off & comes back after quite a while & says, "we can offer you goats cheese & beetroot but it's off menu." An age later, he brings out a bowl of beetroot, slams on the table & marches off. I call him back & ask where is the cheese? He says, "it has chillies, so all we can offer you is beetroot." I ask, "all your cheese has chillies?" He marches off, comes back with a side dish of 2 slices of goats cheese & a side bowl of yoghurt. Clearly its "build your own starter" day at Orrery. We wait an age for plates to be cleared & for mains to arrive. My partner had ordered steak. The waiter had advised him, "chef recommends having it medium rare." Chef clearly forgot their advice, as it was well done, a skin formed on the sauce & served cold. I'd ordered duck & was advised that it's served pink... yet it was brown & tepid, served with cold vegetable sides. We sent the steak back which made our already aloof waiter advance into hyper avoidance mode. I was given a free glass of rose by another kinder waiter, in an attempt to pacify the situation. My partner had to ask for a drink too. Partner's steak arrives by which time I'd finished my main, my dishes were cleared & we were ignored for a while longer. Aloof waiter finally clears partner's plates & takes dessert order. Chocolate for him, panna cotta for me... wait for an age... the afternoon shift has finished & we're now watching another waiter iron tablecloths on the table in front of ours, gearing up for the evening service. Desserts arrive, slammed on table by aloof waiter whom immediately matches off. Chocolate for partner ...& what's this, crumble for me. I hate crumble. Call back waiter. He ignores us. Manage to get attention of other waiter, who brings out correct dessert & happy birthday chocolates. All waiters practically dissappear at this point, meaning the only way to pay bill was by going to front desk, where head waiter who'd been aware of all the mistakes totally ignored me. Another waiter gave me the bill & had the decency to charge less than full price. It was like being in an episode of Faulty Towers. I really disliked Orrery.

Hair in the food, mixed attitudes from waiting staff, and food poisoning after the meal! Food listed on the menu wasn’t actually what came out on the plate. Some of the food is average and some is decent but all in all it’s very overpriced.

Delicious food in original surroundings , but sooooo expensive ! We did not go crazy on wines , it was decent Loire white wine , but the bill was outrageous !

Orrery restaurant is spacious and the atmosphere is so welcoming. The staff are very polite and kind and recommended great food. We shared beef wellington to share for main dish and we absolutely loved it. And we ordered burrata for starter which was so tasty as well. Highly recommended!

Lovely lovely service from all if the staff , especially the chap who was originally from Puglia . Food was excellent . The roasted cauliflower starter was amazing and everything looked and tasted fantastic . Highly recommended

We enjoyed a family celebration for my husband’s birthday. The restaurant wasn’t very busy because of the time of year but the food and service were amazing. We all chose different dishes and all were exceptional. Particularly Dorset crab starter and the Lamb rump main course. Thank you all.

Unfortunately for the restaurant, there were only three tables occupied. An empty room does not add to the ambiance. The food was good, not great. Everything on the a la carte menu seemed to have an extra charge tacked on. There were too many people asking us how we were enjoying the meal.

Food was beyond excellent from starters to dessert and wines. Great combinations of flavours and very tasty. Staff was also great, super helpful and provided great recommendations, really knew the cuisine. Thanks very much for a great time!

The design of the restaurant is tastefully done in a minimalist style that is quite handsome. Staff is friendly, professional and attentive. The food was very good with particular high marks on the Beef Wellington. We will certainly come back.

Food was very good as usual, but service was patchy. There was also a strange smell (not of food) nearer the kitchen end of the dining room).

Simply the most wonderful pre-Christmas meal at Orrery. Beautiful decor, welcoming staff, no background music and the finest food and wines. Recommended without reservation.

I was ill after the meal. I suspect the start of crab had been hanging around. The additional costs were exceedingly penalising from an advertised cost of £35 per head I ended up I expected to pay £100 but ended up with a bill of £185.

Brilliant lunch, but sadly i can’t give five stars owing to a shift change of staff during our meal, which saw the friendly & attentive service we had at the start of our meal suddenly stop… Stellar food and an amazing cheese selection however, so we still enjoyed the experience.

The french restaurant Orrery is located in opposite of the st. marylbone church, good place for a cup of fresh cafe and have a lunch deal £14.5 for meal with two salads. staffs are quite friendly!

Had a corporate event here in the private room. The staff were exceptionally professional and attentive. Service was very quick and the food was delicious. From a technical requirement point of view the staff were also very helpful and willing. Great location and an elegant establishment

We had a lovely evening from start to finish. Had the tasting menu with matching wines - was superb and the wines were exceptional. Staff were great and knowledgeable. All in all a perfect anniversary meal and would highly recommend.
