Ormesby Chippy in Great Yarmouth

Truly great fish & chips, great value for money & loved the friendly banter with the owner & staff. Annoyed immensely by the FOUR one star reviews left by one party of disgruntled customers who's telephone order they collected was wrong which they failed to check before leaving, Good food & service deserve far better.

1st time in this little chippy .. all food cooked to order .. service great the young guy even said wait in your car I'll bring it out .. we really enjoyed the nice fish and chips and the curry sauce .. Highly reccomend

Unfortunately, it’s not vegetarian friendly, as stated, as they fry in beef fat. Which is a shame as we live locally but didn’t find out until we asked inside.

We ordered three cod and chips and some battered sausage as our evening meal. The fish was very fresh and every thing was cooked to perfection

We come as a family for a holiday every year to ormesby and love visiting here but this year we was very not happy, got greeted by an extremely rude older blonde lady on the till, did not ask if we wanted salt and vinegar and when we requested we got a very rude attitude back that made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable! We are very let down by this and will not be visiting this chip shop again unfortunately!

Crispy batter, good fish and helpful happy staff! Whats not to like? They will even batter and fry a veggie Sausage if you ask nicely!

Telephoned order, ready in 15 minutes. Felt safe with covid measures. The fish was beautiful - batter crisp and not at all greasy, fish fresh and flaked as it should, no bones, not at all watery. The chips were delicious - soft on the inside, crisp on the outside, yum!Staff friendly and efficient.

We’ve been having Haddock & Chips monthly after reading the rave reviews. Don’t get me wrong, cooked lovely but both large haddock was certainly not large! Medium chips substandard but still charged the same price for the privilege. Ordered by phone, I was impressed they remembered our regular order, arrived to collect, wrong order already bagged up. Our proper order brought through but certainly not up to the usual standard. Buck your ideas up or you will find yourselves losing custom. We certainly won’t be returning - Doggers are in the next village so they get our custom until you do.

As 2 local families we ordered a fish dinner for 8 of us, only to get home with all the fish and no chips! Mistakes of course happen, but when we called to discuss arranging coming back to collect our chips. we were blamed for getting our own order wrong!!! Who orders fish without chips!!!! So we ended up having just fish and our own chips!! And sadly the fish was dry!! We won’t be returning.

Ordered meal by phone for 2 families of 4. Travelled from caister to ormesby to collect and when got home none of the 4 pieces of fish had any chips. Rang up and was advised this is what we ordered which wasn’t the case. Awful service who orders 4 pieces of fish on their own!! Ended up buying chips from caister!!!

Decided to try somewhere new (local).....After telephoning our order, we went to pick it up. I’m a trusting type, not one of those people who checks every single thing, big mistake. Once home we unpacked our order with our friends to find 1 large chips to cover 8 orders! Rang to clarify and met by a barrage of questions blaming us for ordering incorrectly. Fish was dry and bought chips from Caister chippy. Note to self ‘never go there again’ stick to who we normally use even though it’s further away

Drove here to grab fish and chips for four of us as it was local to where we were staying and generally positive reviews.Pulled up to the road it is on at 7:50pm, just two gentlemen waiting outside for their order I presumed and chatting to a couple of the staff who watched us walking down to the shop.About 25 yards from the shop, a gentleman staff member came out, gave the men their order, then turned to us and said, "we are closing now, we have run out of everything"?!?...(assuming he didn't know what we wanted, can only assume that either the stock room was actually completely empty or just couldn't be bothered to cook anything fresh) and walked back in to the shop.We shrugged, started walking back to the car as he re-emerged with a tray full of chips and sat outside eating them.So a chip shop runs out of stock of 'everything' apparently on a Monday evening, 40 minutes before it is due to close, yet keeps its doors open, lights on as if it is open.Definately won't waste my time returning.

Stopped in on a warm summer afternoon. Chips were crisp and plentiful, batter was evenly covered and crisp. Not a light batter and fair amount of fat but I like it that way, and very good on a sausage.Price wise it was great value at £2.50 for a big kids meal with full size fruit shoot, so with us sharing 1 adult portion we all ate well for under a tenner.Definately recommend.

What an absolute gem on our doorstep. Wonderfully freshly cooked haddock so fresh it fell apart, crispy thin batter and well cooked chips. Generous portions too. Telephoned the order through and as I walked in it was dished up. Highly recommended and pleased to say this has put fish and chips back on our treat list when we need a break from cooking or friends arrive ad hoc.

Staying on a local camp site and came here to get tea. Fish was cooked fresh, also had sausages and pineapple rings. Could not fault them at all, price was good and staff very friendly. Will be going back again.

The chippy is back to the standard set by Charlie in the days he ran it. I can never eat all of a haddock and chips supper as there is too much fish and too many chips

The best chip shop locally! The food is freshly cooked and tasty. The fish options are pretty good too! definitely our "go to" for Fish & Chips now.

We had used this place many years ago when visiting a nearby village and the food was excellent then, safe to say it did not let us down this time, the staff are very quick with your order working as a well drilled team the portions are very good and taste is excellent ,recommend to try this place

We had just moved into Stone Cottage in the village for a 4 night stay and were ravenous!. My husband went to the Chippy and placed the order which was then freshly cooked. Haddock (Medium but Huge! ) and chips. he returned to our cottage a little later and the meal was fabulous!. We had to share with our cockerpoo and she loved them too. Very friendly and efficient, speedy service

New owners have restored the excellent quality this chip shop has enjoyed over the years. In the last 12 months it was a bit hit and miss as to how good your fish and chips would be but thanks to new ownership I'm pleased to say Ormesby Chippy is back to its usual number 1 spot.

The fish and chips are allways fresh and the staff are all friendly best to prebook your order to save waiting

The fish is always fresh and tasty, often being cooked while you wait which isn't very long. The chips are crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. They also offer an extensive range of alternatives e.g. Whitebait, fishcakes and sausages. You will not be disappointed if you try them!

Got to say the food I had last night was great best fish and chips I have had for ages. I would advise anyone with a order to order first then collect people was waiting a while last night.

Always go here when in the area, all food freshly cooked, piping hot and tasty. Friendly staff, clean location. Great grass area outside to sit and eat your fish and chips!

Really fresh fish shown before frying, really well cooked with really great friendly service. We ate in the sunshine on the lovely green outside.

Excellent quality fish and chips. We turned up with an order for 9 families. The staff were really friendly and kept us entertained whilst they freshly cooked the order. Then the food was brilliant. Reasonable price too.

Too many staff faffing around. More staff than customers. No one seemed to be serving. Chips were alright. Lots of crispy bits. Sausage in batter was quite good.

Food was good and all very fresh as cooked to order during mid-week. This did take quite a while because it was busy, which I suppose defeated the object of not cooking some pre-prepared choices.

Very busy little fish and chip shop, shows its very good. A variety of different fish also other things on the menu, such aa sausage, chicken, fish cakes, etc. you need to try this chippy.

Popped in for some chips, never again, every single chip was crispy, very very rude staff, they deffently need some training on how to cook chips, and how to smile, wouldn't use again

Lived in Ormesby for 17 years. Only have f&c; a couple of times a year but these were fantastic. Better than anything I have had before from the chippy. The pub now does f@c, havn't had them but they look good but fish and chips from the chippy ? Can't beat it. Happy days.

Highly recommended. Was told about this chip shop so thought would give it a try. Really glad I did lovely friendly staff and we'll cooked fish and chips. If you never been I advise making the effort, this will be my regular place in the future

This chippy used to be amazing. It has changed hands around a year ago and it has gone downhill.

Always difficult to find good, tasty gluten free/vegetarian food - this is a winner. Everything tastes amazing and fresh. We pre-ordered and the food was ready for when we arrived - no waiting. Portions very good size! My friend asked her fish to be bone free and they were only too happy to oblige - very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely go back every time i can :)

2nd visit here as visiting parents.... What can I say amazing food...Amazing quantities of food...Would highly advise this CHIPPY to everyone 😀

This had a very good reputation with the previous owners and service was generally pretty quick. Unfortunately the service has gone down. Very little is cooked and ready, meaning a considerable wait for your "not so fast" food. What you get is OK, but just needs to be ready quicker!

Staying in Ormseby St Margaret and wanted a quick fish & chips for our first night. It was fantastic! Fish cooked fresh to order. We had medium sized haddock but it was huge and thick; it didn't fit in our plates.

We don't very often eat fish and chips due to expanding waistlines. However, as a treat now and again and when we have visitors we always choose Ormesby Chippy. Living locally it is easy to ring in our order and pick up at a particular time. Well cooked fish and chips every time. Generous portions and good price.

I live in Caister but work in Dereham and decided to swing past this place one evening after a 14 hour shift. I didn't want to cook but still wanted something hot. The food was that good that I do this once a week now! The chips were crisp and had the golden colour of sunbathers on the Costa Del Sol and the fish was equally as good plus cooked to order so I knew it was fresh. I'm looking forwards to my next visit already!

After this meal last week will be going here every week, great portions great prices and friendly staff

Friendly efficient staff can not fault the service provided. Good value and fresh tasty food. Best chippy in this area by far!

Very nice we had fish and chips with curry sauce the fish was so big I couldn't eat it all we would 100% go back again next time we are at caster.

Huge portions, delicious Haddock the batter was perfect light and crispy and would of been a five star rating if they hadn't got our order wrong, ordered mushy peas and got gravy 😞
