Excellent fish and chips. Always enjoy and generous portions. The owner is an absolute gent. Top fish and chips in a large area. We travel from Hopton especially. My favourite.

We had three portions of fish for 4 people and two large portion of chips and it was under 325. The fish is huge! The chips were spot on but it was the fish that was just theeeeeeeeeeeeeeee highlight. Chunky cod, delicious.

OMG,WOW. I placed an order over phone for 2 medium skinless battered cod and 2 large chips and curry sauce quite late Saturday night(24th Feb 24) but it was no trouble to the owner and my husband went to get it 20 mins later. We've had chips B4 but we've normally left it too late to get fish. When my husband came home telling me the size and thickness of the cod in amazment,I thought he was exaggerating untill we unwrapped it and I swear I've never seen a piece of cod like it and the taste was to die for and so succulent,juicy and piping hot and chips were also amazing. The owner was extremely kind and courteous and very generous to us too. This is as far as I'm concerned the best fish and chips in the whole of Norfolk and we've tried so many and had nothing but bad experience's. But I can guarantee if you order from Mr chips you won't be disappointed. Something is seriously wrong with you if you don't enjoy it once you've gotten over the size and such amazing huge value for money. With what we had we could have fed 4 People minimum. Best chips I’ve ever had, been coming here since I was a child as it’s where my grandma is from and the quality is so unlike anywhere else.

Thought I would try out this chippy. Terrible, absolutely awful. I order chips and onions rings and my other half ordered nuggets and chips. A couple hours later my other half isn’t feeling well and has got food poisoning because the chicken nuggets she had order were still pink. Waited 30 minutes for food as well. Definitely would not recommend. I’m gonna stick with my usual chippy from now on.

The chips are the best around - the fish is huge and being a greedy person when it comes to cod ordered a large one and it was so large I had to halve it. The oil is always so fresh and the mushy peas some of the bedt i hve tasted.

Very nice fish & yummy batter. Most fish cooked to order very fresh well worth the wait. Very polite owner. My fav fish & chip shop in the GORLESTON ON SEA area by far.

Can't fault anything about the service or the food. The fish portions were HUGE and cooked perfectly. The best fish we have had in a long time. There were 5 adults in our group and we all said the same. We arrived with the intention dine in. There are only 2 tables for approx 2/3 each and there were 9 people in our group but the gentleman was very accomodating, pulling tables together and bringing chairs through from another area. It really was a lovely meal and the customer services was excellent. Highly recommended!

Second worst fish & chips shop i've had the misfortune to buy from amd im 52! 4 or 5 people in queue & told order would be 15 to 20 mins but waited over half an hour for something that didnt seem to be cod (chewey meaty texture) . Chips were soggy and undercooked. Didnt appear to be a traditional run store. I wont be back!

One the best fish n chip restaurants in Norfolk, fish is bought locally and the size of portions is huge! One piece of cod and chips is enough for two adults, well cooked and at a great price. Have used Mr Chips for a number of years and have never been let down

Had fish & chips here last night for tea awful, chips anemic soggy batter which fell of fish not very hot completely tasteless £18 wasted won't be going back instead will go to our regular chippy Joe's far superior in every way.

Went to Mr chips gorleston for a change and was really looking forward to it as well when we placed our order was told they had no haddock left so ordered 2 cod and chips waited 25 mins for it to be cooked as people had ordered and were being served first got it home and were pleased that the portion sizes were big but the chips were soggy and anemic the batter was OK on the outside but undercooked on the inside and didn't stay on the fish big flakes of cod but zero taste not very hot too and £18 wasted we will not going back instead we'll go to our usual chippy Joe's far superior in every way.

Came in got 2 bits of fish and chips, prices are very good, portions are really good sizes,staff/owners very polute, only downfall I'd say was very greasy on the paper, maybe needs to shake fish down more, apart from that really good, would use again

Fancied a chippy tea and Mr. Chips is very close to where I am staying. I was warmly greeted upon entering. I was looking at the menu and its not just the usual items on sale. They also so do burgers and more. My order was taken quickly and I was informed of a short wait. Whilst waiting 8 saw other orders being served and the battered fish looked huge. When my order was ready I was offered salt and vinegar and as the order was bagged up the server threw a buttered roll in at no extra cost. When I got home I noticed that there was loads of chips and they were hot. Just what I needed on a cold December evening. I would highly recommend Mr. Chips and will be using again

I have just had ordered a large middle cod and pie and chips. collected was very disapointed.the pie and chips was almost cold. the cod was a small tail end very disappointed it tasted as if it had been sitting around for a while. will not be going back.

A long wait with half the items on the menu (plaice, chicken nuggets, the whole burger menu) not available on a Friday evening at 6pm, chips had an odd after taste... the shop now looks a little run down and was kind of sad to see

Visiting family in Gorleston and was told the fish here is incredible!! I was not disappointed!! The fish was cooked fresh and it tasted amazing!! The man behind the counter was lovely too and even treated my little girl to a chocolate treat! For the portion size the price was very reasonable too

I really hope you open soon! This is by far, the best fish and chip shop I have ever found. Every single time, without fail, you get a very generous portion of the fish (cod/haddock) which tastes delicious and has a perfect juicy texture. The chips are also delicious! I saw a comment earlier, where someone actually moaned about the portion size being too big, which I find absolutely hilarious! We tend to get a fish each and share a large chips, but honestly how could you get too much? Basically, I have moved to London now and cannot buy fish & chips anywhere else because my standards are so high from Mr Chips! I am always look forward to coming back to Gorleston on Sea and as a tradition getting them here, and only here! I’m telling you, when they open again, don’t even bother going anywhere else in Gorleston because the prices are much more and the portion sizes are way less, I’m talking about a quarter of the size these guys. I really hope this closure is temporary cause otherwise I’ll probably never have fish and chips again! So much love for Mr Chips!!!! 💕

My sister & I don’t live in Gorleston On Sea anymore as have moved to Cambridge & London but one of the things we look forward to doing when we come home to visit family is getting fish & chips here! The portion sizes are huge, every single time without fail, you get a delicious juicy cod that is more than double what you would get elsewhere! The chips are great too. Honestly, don’t bother going anywhere else!

Tried to order a large cod and chips but only had medium, however this was a blessing as the portion was huge and more than enough. All seems to be cooked to order so expect a little wait which is worth it. They do accept phone orders so you could phone ahead for a timed order to avoid the wait. Fish was tasty and batter perfect, chips typical chip shop chips all in all would use again.

So it was Easter Sunday and I had searched loads of places for fish and chips, when I find Mr chip's open... not the most glamorous place but its open, so I order 2 med chips n 2 med cod, takes 10 mins which is fine. When I get back with my food...... Wow absolutely amazing and the portion is very generous I would highly recommend this little gem.

Maybe it's only the two random times I have used this chip shop but both times the food has been almost inedible and the chips greasey and horrible. Which is a shame as it seems very popular but we never seem to get it rite..

I don't think I have seen fish portions that big ...ever! I ordered a large cod and chips and the staff member said we only have medium so I thought ok . I have had large cod at various establishments and they have never been anywhere near as big. Cooked perfectly and the chips were nice and golden. Plenty of scraps and friendly service. Would definitely recommend. Oh and the prices were more than reasonable 😁

I always feel fobbed off with a Fish Finger if I am offered a Medium Cod but Mr Chips’ Medium Cod is Huge, well cooked in a tasty light Batter and very good quality Chips. In Future I will have to consider Small Cod and share the Chips with my Wife, the Portions are that big. Everything is cooked fresh to Order so expect a 10 to 15 minute wait, it’s well worth it!

poor customer service. Told no fish so ordered sausage and chips instead, waited 45min standing outside in the cold then when order ready was told there is fish, er er did the boat arrive on the river with a delivery all of a sudden, er i don't think so.

We tried Mr Chips last year when our regular chippy was closed, what a find, the fish is absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection with the most amazing crispy batter, batterd sausage was also scrummy.Yes you do have to wait but it’s really worth it, it’s all cooked fresh.While I was waiting outside for my order at 5.30 I did hear him having to tell people he had run out of fish, this did seem strange especially so early in the evening.The staff are really friendly and portions are huge.

Can not recommend enough !!! Was my cheat day and I'm completely satisfied infact it beat me I could not finish it. Ordered cod and chips and the portions are massive excellent value for money. Fish superb. Called up and ordered before hand was ready for when I walked in. I can't fault. Thank you !!!!

Arrived, 2 other people outside waiting, my order taken after 15 minutes of standing around, then waited a further 35 minutes for food. In my time waiting many other people came and ordered and went.. my order was only for 2 lots of fish and chips. The owner does not communicate very well nor was there any special instruction due to present times. Once home the food was nasty and full of oil and hardly any fish in the batter... Waste of time and money. There is much better chips shops around just down the High Street. Wont go back to Mr Chips again.

Tried ringing to order for pick up, couldn’t get through, arrived, confusing who is in queue and who isn’t outside as people are stood all over the plaice (pardon the pun), with people that have ordered asked to stand outside door and queue. Poor choice, there was only small and medium cod, I asked for a medium cod and a battered sausage, all fried fresh, bit of a long wait. When it was eventually ready, he told me it was a smaller cod, so charged me for a small and I said “oh, that was to share”, so he gave me another sausage. All in all not bad, but they should have better choice and ask those collecting to queue to one side and those waiting to order to queue to the other.

Mr Chips is fantastic value and quality tasting fish and chips. Always puts a few extra chips in and this week I went he gave a free chocolate bar to my child! Highly recommend Mr Chips.

This is a quality Fried Fish & Chip shop plus Pies, sausages and chicken. All fish is cooked to order and when you arrived, really good value for money but CASH only. Normal times there is two or three tables to sit and eat, tea and bread rolls available.

We came here back in March and had fantastic Fish and Chips in huge portions so we were looking forward to having it again.We went 3 days ago and stood in the open shop waiting to be served only after a couple of minutes to be told "we are closed" even though the shop was open. Today we went back once more to be told "we close in fifteen minut and we not gonna serve you" I challenged him and he wouldn't budge. Why advertise you are open til 2 and stop serving at Quarter to??? Obviously he doesn't want to make Money.Good luck in getting served but it really is on his terms.

decided to have a fish tea decided on this chippy due to many people raving about it. Got there at 10 to 5pm about 7 people outside i thought they were in a queue but upon askign a lady who said shes ordered and you have to go in place your order and wait outside so this i did a chinese man asked what woudl i like so i said large cod and chips please to which he replied sorry no more fish !! for christ sake its a fish shop hes only open for 20 mins but sold out ??? waste of time and travel .i usually go to tonys so i went and had a lovely large cod and chips no waiting time .

Absolute joke for a Chippy. 1and a half hours for 2 portions of chips. Dont use. Unless you want to die waiting.

Just a review on mr chips in gorleston it has to be one if the best in east anglia for value portions and taste i used to buy 2 cod and 2 lots of chips but i had to cut back as we couldnt eat it all fantastic place thanx mr chips

The best fish and chips anywhere locally. Never disappoints. Just don't be in a hurry to get served. However, so worth the wait.

Waited for well over 30 minutes for the fish to be fried and they only had Cod on the menu , the portions were a good size and a fair price , sadly it was under cooked and could have been in the pan for a lot longer , there was far to much un cooked batter and i would not reccommend

Ordered 1 piece of fish to eat in, they served all the takeaway people who arrived later than I did, not overly busy but still did not get served even after 30 minutes. Had to leave it due to an appoitment. Ordered s fish locally later on and it was ready within 10 minutes. Customer service was simply awful with no reasonable apologies. Avoid if you can.

When visiting Mr Chips have a big appetite! The portion sizes far out weigh the money paid. One portion will feed two people! It's delicious food.

Have visited this restaurant twice now, on Friday evening parking can be tricky but worth it, owner is always friendly, chips are cooked well and tasty, good battered sausage, huge portions for the price, we like lots of vinegar and the owner doesn't mind me drenching the chips, some chip shops get inpatient or ratty when you soak the food before wrapping, not here, looking forward to my next visit and taking them to the beach

Went with our 3 grandchildren and ate in. All food was cooked fresh and was delicious.Staff very helpful and supplied us with a bottle of tomato sauce ( imported for the kids!)batter on the fish super crunchy and not at all greasy. Best I have ever had and huge portions, highly recommended.

Bought medium fish and chips take away yesterday around 5pm. Waited for it to be cooked about a thirty minute wait. Well when I got to the car to eat it. The paper was absolutely swimming in fat. The chips were soggy and undercooked. The fish batter was very thick looked fine on the outside but underneath was still raw batter. I swear there was a skip just beside the car I got out and literally threw it in the skip. Should have taken it back. Could not eat it Rubbish. What an absolute waste of money. Just like throwing money away. Most certainly will never go back. Angry with myself for not going back.

Its a long wait on a Friday or Saturday evening...but well worth it. Cooked fresh (he could cut down the wait if he built up just a little in the cabinet) Simple menu, very traditional. Superb value.

Decent fish.. although they should know you can not wrap two pieces of fish together. Chips among the worst we have ever had, soggy, greasy and undercooked. Unfortunately good prices do not make up for poor quality.
