Food took a long time to be done but the saveloy didn't taste like a saveloy the chips was under cooked so had to airfry them. Was a bit disappointed as the reviews are so high on this place :(

A regular portion of chips for £3.35 is in my book, over-priced regardless. But when you get not really hot, dried out chips for that money, then it smacks a bit.

I’m sorry but this was absolutely awful. Got sausage and chips and they must have been sat in the hot cabinet for hours. Dreadful. Not fresh at all, I should have took them back really as they were completely inedible and cost over £11 for small sausage and chips and two portions of regular chips. Couldn’t even put our own salt and vinegar on!

The only place we could find in the evening in Gorleston on Sea to buy fish and chips. The counter staff were friendly. The place was very clean and there were plenty of choices of different fish and other foods. Our fish and chips were perfectly cooked and very tasty. The portions were huge and we ordered medium fish and two small chips for 3 people. We added curry sauce to our order which looked really thick, but tasted delicious. If we visit Gorleston again we will definitely return to buy our fish and chips.

Food fresh as cooked to order only. Visited twice this week.

Took us half an hour to get sausages and chips… wasn’t busy just extremely slow service. We asked to see the trays for portion sizes before ordering and for a large chips we got shown a nice big tray… once we finally got our food we got probably half of the chips we were expecting, we ordered a large and got bugger all. There was only enough for one small portion so was left hungry after going there for dinner.Sausages were cooked lovely however, kitchen men were great but you could see they were waiting on the front of house a lot who were extremely slow. Chips weren’t wrapped properly either so we not only got much less than we were supposed to, and then they weren’t very hot when we got home.

You simply will not get better fish and chips than this plaice dishes up

Visited early evening for a Birthday treat and was charged £25 for 2 Haddock and Chips. Fish freshly cooked and piping hot. Chips luke warm and hard, as if they had not been cooked properly. Not up to standard it was back in March on our last visit and will not hurry to return.

Visited here on the recommendation of a friend whilst staying locally. Place was very clean and staff friendly. Ordered Medium Cod and Chips, large gravy and a battered Jumbo Sausage. Even though there was only me and another customer in, I had to wait over 20 minutes for my order, I don’t mind waiting if the food is prepared fresh and it’s worth it. When eventually the food arrived it was time to pay. When the staff member behind the counter said £13.90 I couldn’t believe my ears. Looking at all the awards I thought it must be fantastic. The fish was ok if not the best. The chips were hard and more like scrapings and the Gravy was watery on top and solid at the bottom. The battered Jumbo Sausage was the best part. For what you pay, it wasn’t worth it.

The best fish in chips at a seaside resort by far! From the customer service, quality of food, taste and portion- this is absolutely value for money. We had medium cods with chips and there is something beautiful about the batter. My husband had the spicy crab cakes which are an absolute must. My only go to 'Plaice' when in Gorleston- you can see why this is award winning.

Always lovely polite people when we visit here. It’s our ‘go to’ for fish and chips when we visit Gorleston. Fresh and hot and good portions. Can bring them down on anything, they even cook veggie things in a separate fryer.

We often stop here for a quick bite but I must say the standard of chips for what is a fish and chip shop is very disappointing. On the last visit the chips were very pale and barely cooked through not worth the high Street prices.

One of our first reviews in Yarmouth and sadly dissapointed.. We tried this place due to it being 'award winning'...don't know how 😬. We ordered 3 large cod, 2 chips, saveloy and curry sauce. Each piece of fish looked huge in the box to find very very overcooked batter and very thin fish with no thick flakes - in all 3. Cold chips with no flavour, microwaved saveloy and curry sauce that stayed in the pot when tipped upside down. Another thing was the very slow and bland service. Very very disappointed and just another chippy, nothing special. In our opinion, anywhere can do the same as this and saveloys should never ever be microwaved.

We were local so.paid a visit. Food was cooked to order and was very tasty. Only thing we could fault was mushy peas that were tasteless and awful

Having checked the reviews (on here and on another well-known site) we walked 10 minutes from the beach for fish and chips from My Plaice. We were not disappointed. The large haddock was enough for two, and the chips, made from chunky potatoes, were fresh and well cooked. The batter on the fish was well seasoned and crispy, and the large curry sauce tasty without being too spicy. Well worth the 10 minute walk, and Susan put in cutlery, serviettes, and trays to allow me to share the food between the two of us. The Bank Holiday Monday may have been cool and overcast, but the fish and chips made our weekend.

Went into gorleston on a day trip yesterday as weather was nice, had remembered about this award winning fish and chip shop and though we would try it. wow we were not disappointed had to wait for them to be cooked but well worth the wait large cod was the biggest we have ever seen very fresh and melted in your mouth, the batter was perfect not to greasy but very crispy how we like it , good size portion of chips which again were not greasy and had a good taste. 10/10 will def be back again. Highly recommended and the staff were very friendly.

Having a rare day off with hubby, we decided to stay local and were delighted to find an award-winning fish & chip shop in Gorleston, having spent our day out in Gt Yarmouth. We have our favourite chip shop in the town but decided to deviate and try somewhere new. We were sorely disappointed and left feeling not sure what the award was for. Was it the chips that resembled the cardboard box it was packaged in? Weirdest chips ever, not at all like chip shop chips, dry, square and tasteless. Was it for cold food? Or was it the price? £19 for large cod/large chips + medium cod/chips + 2 cans. Wow. Very disappointed and won't be going back. I wish I'd read the Trip Advisor reviews before I went.

Ordered a large Skate cost £7.20 .. The fishmeal was dark brown, dry and tasteless,, and so very small my hand was big Ger than the stake and even the dog turned his nose up at the fish meat,,, if I'd wanted to spend £9.20 on a portion of chips I would travelled to harrods Very disappointing,, thoni fan say the chips are lovely

Firstly haven’t been here since it was weavers some years ago, I must say on my visit there was 3 members of staff all whom I presumed all under 30 years of age, but they certainly did serve some of the best fish and chips I’ve had in my 50 + years of eating fish and chips, lovely fish chips nice and crispy and soft in the middle, and at reasonable prices. Well done to the staff for serving quality

Ok, so seeing the top 50 chip shop award, thought this should be good, bearing in mind all those in Norfolk not in the list.. that are superb eg Grosvenor in Norwich. So Chips, a solid 10/10 for size BUT all odd bits, not real chips but no greasy overall 5 / 10 Fish cod, cooked to order ok size for med and large but fish was very greasy, and the batter all congealed, not too much grease no real taste apart from “wet” fish. A solid 4.5/10 Packed well, polite in store.

Moved in that day and needed food. Can’t believe we struck gold going here! Fresh cod and chips - delicious. Can’t fault it. Great service too

After waiting nearly 30 minutes in the queue at another fish and chip shop near the beach only to be told they had run out of fish we drove round the corner to this place and so glad we did, all haddock and cod cut and cooked freshly while we waited, chips were lovely and fresh and not greasy at all, even had a couple of pickled onions, was so good we called in again later in the week. Very clean inside with friendly staff. Give it a go you won't be disappointed.

Don't mind waiting when it is being cooked fresh to order, particularly with the friendly staff to chat to. It was worth waiting for, the haddock and chips were delicious!

Bet the original owner in 1717 never thought a highly rated fish and chip shop would eventually take it over!The long queues are a testament to the popularity of this Fryer, not the speed of service. The fish is caught locally and is sourced from environmentally sustainable waters. The potatoes are grown at local farms. Everything is freshly fried and they do 'scraps' as well if you're not watching your waistline.They serve the ordinary types of fish, plus crab, calamari, squid and scampi. There are sausages, chicken, burgers, pies, veggies and kiddy box meals. Also drinks, pickles and sauces. Take time to read the very big menu.

Ordered chips and they were not edible very small and hard paid above average too would not use again. Quite frankly can't believe they have awards.

We thought we would try My Plaice for fish and chips seeing as it had awards etc...first thing was we phoned order from Oulton, but had a 20 minute wait once we got there, the fish was more expensive than our normal chippy and it was so thin and lacking any real quantity of meat, we were left still hungry after!...the freshness and taste was ok, but you’d expect this, we won’t be rushing back I’m afraid. Poor...

It used to be the best fish & chip shop in Gorleston by far but it has certainly gone downhill. An order was placed for collection but waiting 20 minutes in the shop after the collection time is unacceptable. The fish was poor for the cost. I will not be visiting there again.

This indian run fish and chip shop is not the best in Gorleston despite it having all these awards in the window. The lady owner puts herself forward for all these awards and as nobody else does she wins!! The chips in the evening are reheated from lunchtime and nearly black and are cold. The fish is not the best so think they get the cheap stuff.

The best fish and chips and service in the area, always willing to go above and beyond with a friendly team. I will not buy fish and chips from any where else due especially to the quality of the Cod.

We had a short break holiday in Great Yarmouth and during a stroll along the promenade at Gorleston-on-Sea we saw a couple eating fish and chips at a park bench. It looked so good that we asked where we could buy a similar dish. We were lucky enough to get in to the shop a few minutes before they closed at 7pm. The staff were extremely helpful and polite and as with all their dishes, our portions were cooked from fresh. We then took them back to the park and ate them by the sea. They were delicious and very fresh. The meal was every bit as good as we had been told to expect. We will certainly return when we are back in that area on another occasion.

Terrible customer service. Food was poor very wet batter and fish wascold. TERRIBLE PLAICE They still pride themselves on an award for fish and chip takeaway 2014 god knows how they won this but it’s 2018 now so clearly standards have majorly dropped. I won’t be coming back and would not recommend. They are far superior fish and chip shops in the area

Busy in there for a Monday so that was a good sign that it’s good! Had cod and chips, cod could have been a bit bigger for the price but it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. You can only pay by cash which is a bit inconvenient.

Haven't been on my plaice for a good few years as moved to norwich, soon as I walked in the staff remembered my name, along with all my friends that use to pop in every lunch on college break (6 years ago) food was incredible, best fish and chip shop by a country mile.

My Plaice Fish and Chips is situated right near the traffic lights at Gorleston High Street. Your order is cooked fresh, not like some shops that cook so much ... it's only luke warm. The present owners took over from the original owners some years ago now. Considering it was a very well established business passed on from father to son, the standard of the food has remained the same. There's sometimes a bit of a queue, but that's always a sign of a good establishment ... which this certainly is !

My grandad had a chip shop 30 years ago and I’ve not found one to match up to it’s standards... until now!!!! The staff here took such care over the preparation of our fish and chip meal you would think it was for the Queen, it was so meticulously made.

I must say the chips were delicious and the fish tasted nice... However, while we were waiting for our order - a sign of freshness of course - I noticed that the sausages from another order were coming out of the same oil pan and going on the same shelf as the fish. Now I am pork-fat-intolerant and asked if they could please keep my haddock away from the sausages. They said on the shelf they could but not in the batter or the oil as only the chips are separate... ermm... so I looked up at the menu board that lists 'veggie' dishes and asked about the onion rings... so I queried where those are fried and the lady explained that they go into the same batter and oil. I asked how vegetarians might feel about this and she replied that she explains it when they come in... ermm...at no stage was anybody asked if they are vegetarian. So I mentioned that many other people don't eat pork and again she assured me that if people of the muslim faith come in, she explains this to them and they are always very grateful to have been told and go elsewhere. I wanted to ask how she knows that they are of a faith that forbids pork... but I decided not to go there. Never in my fish and chips eating experience has it ever occured to me that fish and sausages might be cooked in the same batter and oil. My symptoms are rheumatic and thankfully I only had slight pains that night, which in the past I have always put down to overly greasy fish and chips... but now I know. Thank you nice lady at 'My Plaice' for explaining the unbelievable to me. Though I have to say, the fish and chips were genuinely delicious!

Beautifully cooked haddock in a light crispy batter. Cooked to order. Unfortunately the chips were cut from new potatoes which meant they were very small and "spiky"

I've know this shop here for over 50 years and although I think the owners have changed over the years the food has always been excellent. They have won awards for the last three/four years and this year won the best independent in Norfolk Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. The service is friendly, everything is cooked to order (they even asked me what cut of cod I wanted. Good value too.

Great little takeaway is this, and the chips are lush. They always cook the fish fresh so none of that dryness you get if its left in the warmer too long.

Being from Hull I am used to buying haddock that is white when cooked not an off white creamy yellow colour. They need to buy fresh stock of fish constantly.

El bacalao era muy buena, como la masa y cocinados a la orden, pero las fichas había estado por algún tiempo y no estaban tan caliente o tan fresco como esperaba. Algunas partes están también fueron muy. A un precio razonable. Bueno ver que no estaban fritas en goteo y no en grasa. Volvería, pero esperaba más ya que publicitar ampliamente en la tienda y la ventana que eran uno de los mejores en Inglaterra que chippys no estoy de acuerdo. Tal vez un día? ?

Llamado aquí en nuestra primera noche en Hopton después de leer reseñas mezcladas. Por suerte no me decepcionó. Pescado fresco y estaba delicioso, guisantes eran buenas. Las patatas fritas eran algunas partes están un poco, pero mi marido estaba feliz, ya que no tienes las cosas hoy en día. Los niños salchichas y comida que chip. La comida era buena y volvería de nuevo.

Así, el título de nuestra crítica lo dice todo. Peces no sabor fresco, pasta era delgada, plana y sin cocer, las patatas fritas eran pequeñas, seco y doloroso para comer y para el guisantes blandos, nunca hemos tenido nada de ellos, ni lo queremos otra vez - verde oscuro y amargo. Para 2 grandes cod, 1 porción de patatas fritas y una gran porción de guisantes blandos pagamos casi 14 libras. 00. Fue la peor pescado y patatas fritas que hemos tenido. Vivíamos en Gorleston-on-sea cuando mi solla era Weaver - absolutamente ninguna comparación. Ahora vive en Cambridgeshire, no por el mar si sabes su geografía - pescado y patatas fritas aquí 10 / 10 y por mucho menos dinero por la misma comida. Mi Solla no será mi lugar - ni lo recomendaría ser suya.

Mi familia y siempre me dan el pescado y patatas fritas desde aquí! Las patatas fritas son deliciosas! El lugar es limpio y el personal es amable, continuaremos ir aquí para el pescado y patatas fritas. Si quieres algo de gran pescado y patatas, este es el lugar donde quieres ir! :)

Sólo paramos aquí después de caminar en la una en la parte delantera y me dijeron que estaban cerrados. Me alegro de haberlo hecho, aparqué justo enfrente y las patatas fritas y las salchichas eran realmente agradables y crujientes no nadar en grasa. La señorita que me atendió fue muy agradable. Esta será la única que vaya a la próxima vez que estemos en Gorleston.

Went there on a local recommendation Signs ib window says it has awards. Really??????? What a let down. 1pm and the chips were dry and hard and warm Must have been there since opening at 11.30 Cross that one off my list.

Reading my sudden splurge of reviews you would think I had a terrible time in Yarmouth area. Not so, My Plaice was fourth on the list of possible Chippies. Fish Inn near our site was un-recommended by other guests - the Dolphin Fish Bar had parking issues (its on a dual carriage way and difficult to establish where to park at 40 MPH) - I passed it 3 times, and another one with a chaps name (Tonies or Joes or similar) was now in the opposite direction so I headed into what I assume was Gorleston. Sue (I read you name on the badge and subsequently on your various certificates all over) - you are a credit to the profession. Absolutely superb. Only had a medium cod as I don't bother with large generally as most are just wet and sloppy if I had not been 5 miles away I would have come back for another. Top top stuff.
