Origins Coffee Lounge in Darlington

Won't go back as manager (I assume) not welcoming and quite rude. Telling me they were closing in 50 mins and asking how much longer my friend would be. We left without ordering

I enjoyed my visit to Origins today. Lovely coffee and delicious cake. Very friendly staff, who don’t pressurise you to leave when you finish. Very popular cafe in Darlington. Never disappoints.

Called here just for a quick drink and cake with family. Our order came out straight away. We had a piece of the lime and courgette cake and luckily it had tipped onto its side and I noticed it was mouldy on the bottom. We told the lady who had served us and she apologised so we ordered different cakes which were quite nice and we were told all the cakes would be on the house. Then my partner noticed his cup was dirty, stained inside and lipstick round the rim which wasn't good especially as things should be cleaned properly with everything that's going on. I also had to ask for my drink as it had been forgotten about and when it did come the bottle was covered in flour or something. It was a shame as the coffee shop looks really nice and the second cake I got was tasty

Best cafe I ever used, great service lovely coffee and cakes, good selection of teas, lovely seating and decor, friendly lady took our order then a brilliant waitress (really lovely 1st class) brought our drinks to the table, nice adjoining shop with homewares and hand made chocs, we absolutely love this place.

Once again visited this coffee shop lovely cake and coffee served by a very nice lady place was busy with locals

Pleasant staff and lovely looking cakes. It is small and it is not always possible to get seated but worth trying

We have been visiting Origins for a couple of years and it is still an excellent place to go. The coffee is lovely and the variety of cakes is great. The staff are friendly and we will continue to go whenever we are in Darlington.

Walked into town from sainsburys, and seen a little cafe adjacent to where we were walking. There is a little quaint shop, very nice. Reasonably priced, £10 or so for a pot of English tea made with tea leaves, latte, tea cake and a scone. Clean and friendly. Glad I visited

Beautiful cosy comfortable cafe. Staff friendly, welcoming and professional. Drinks nicely presented cups and saucer's beautiful. Cakes pastries look amazing. My choice for coffee.

My wife and I have been in here a number of times for a coffee and cake. The staff are very friendly and courteous and the ambience and surroundings are very pleasant. It's a great place for a coffee and cake.

Oh my goodness the latte is to die for. Don’t bother with anywhere else. The cake selection is always a temptation as well. Seriously the best coffee in Darlington.

Called in for a coffee after having had a look around the shop that this cafe is in. The smell of the coffee enticed me! It's only a small cafe and you have to go to the counter to order and give your table number. By the time I'd ordered, the table I'd intended to sit at had been taken. No ones fault, just a popular little cafe and fortunately there was another spare table. However, I may not be so lucky next time, so may go with a friend to ensure I get a seat.

Lovely good service notice cup of tea scrum my mince pie first this year, quiet half hour what's not to like.

Call in quite regularly and the service is always first class, friendly staff and and excellent home made cakes. Highly recommend

Pleasant little café on Grange Road Darlington. Coffee and service were good and the location is convenient for the Sainsbury's end of town.

Estado con mi hija pequeña en un par de ocasiones, me encanta la gama de pasteles, Amy de los cuales son caseros y la decoración es muy bonita y nueva. El personal es siempre muy atento a mi hija e incluso trajo un trago de reemplazo en una ocasión ella desvia sacabas. Es agradable que nos hacen sentir bienvenido allí aunque no especialmente orientado hacia los niños.

I love this coffee shop. Their hot chocolate is lovely and their cake selection cannot be beaten. Always a great choice of a high standard. Great location too with parking available outside.

La comida era excelente y muy excelentes para probar! La torta de zanahoria muy ligero, no contenía absolutamente calorías en absoluto! (Hmmm ¡ojalá!).

My favourite place for coffee when shopping in Darlington the coffee always tastes great and I love the Brownies especially Salted Caramel. Staff are always pleasant and helpful

Excellent coffee and a great range of cakes etc including our favourites: macarons. It was our first visit and we stepped into the 'other half' of the café, to be faced by a wall of teddy bears. It made us smile. We'd certainly go back.

Forget the national chains this local coffee house beats them all. Staff coffee and cakes beats them all.

Lovely coffee, fabulous jasmine tea which keeps hot! Gluten free brownies and cake. Very friendly and helpful staff. I'm a regular visitor and pop in to meet friends or do some writing. Also, free wifi.

We've often popped into the homeware shop (where the coffee shop is co-located) but never had refreshments as it's always been too busy (it seats around 12 to 14 people).However, we managed to secure a window seat on a Monday morning (but it was still busy!). You need to go go to the counter to order your drinks and then browse through the wide range of tempting cakes, brownies and biscuits (we really were spoilt for choice as there were some unusual combinations) but there are no savoury options such as sandwiches or quiches (so this place is really for those who like a sugary treat with their tea / coffee). The staff brought our order to our table quickly.Tea was made using loose leaves and served in a modern (clear) tea pot and the little bottles of accompanying milk were a nice touch. Both cakes were lovely.The loo is located behind the serving area and is accessed via one small step (so not ideal) but it's modern and clean which is the most important thing. We also noticed that there was a high chair for little ones. It's nice to be able to support an independent retailer rather than the multi national chains and we'd certainly recommend on the basis of our experience.

This is definitely a coffee lounge not to miss, I've visited on many occassions and have never been disappointed. Great value for money.

Relaxing quiet place, friendly staff with a good selection of cake and snacks as well as quality tasty coffee. I had coffee n walnut cake and cappucino both very good.

Coffee is lovely, milk served in small ' urns' really novel.The staff are always lovely & friendly, & can recommend any of the fabulous cakes they sell.It's not very big, not a lot of seating, but I definitely recommend trying this little gem of a place if you can find one !

For great coffee and a tasty selection of cakes, look no further than Origins. I tried this place when it first opened and have frequented every since. The coffee is arguably the best in Darlington and there is also good selection of teas which come served in a quirky glass tea pot. Then there are the cakes....what can I begin to say, I have tried a selection of the brownies which just melt in your mouth and other varieties like the Guinness cake and Baileys cake and have not yet been disappointed. Like the comment below the only criticism I have is they need more tables as it can get very busy. They recently had a table put in next to the window, but could do with a few more.

We are regulars at this place - tried it when it first opened (having been there many times before when it was just a shop). It is deservedly a roaring success. We are coffee snobs and are extremely impressed with the quality and consistency of the teas, coffees, cakes and service. The place is immaculately clean and you are greeted with a warm smile the second you step through the door. Only criticisms are that more tables are needed as it can get very busy (there's times where we have had to go elsewhere) and that it could do with starting to serve savoury food but given that it doesn't actually have a kitchen that may be difficult. Coffee is very good value too - certainly not expensive in my opinion. You can also browse the homewares on the way out!

went for coffee and cake with a friend last week for the first time , well impressed I must say . I had a coffee and baileys chocolate cake ..it was so delicious back again tomorrow

The shop itself sells just about everything that I would use to create my perfect home, unfortunately it's a little bit on the expensive side, but great for small gifts and decorations nonetheless. The cafe is lovely an small, with the same rustic feel as the rest of the shop. Their drinks are really unique and so is their presentation. Tea comes in glass teapots with infuser lids containing the natural tea leaves, and the selection is much wider than normal cafes. All sweets are homemade and deliciou, not particularly cheap but reasonable. It's a great place if you want a unique retreat.

Came here last week and was terrible, the staff where nice and the cafe and shop are calm and prototype but the cake was terrible and dry and the coffee was very dry and bitter need to assess what your selling and fix it , could be so much more

We have visited this lovely little coffee shop on several occasions now & think it deserves a place on TripAdvisor.Coffee is spot on, they have a range of cocktails & fruit juices that would keep most people happy on a warm day!Neither myself or partner drink tea, but looks like a great experience for those that do!Now we come to the cakes! A wide range of brownies are available, I can reccomend the ginger & the lemon meringue ones! My partner had the Yorkshire curd tart that he loved, we haven't tried anything else but it all looks scrummy!The coffee shop is tucked away on Grange rd, but is worth a short walk from the centre of Darlington.Keep up the good work girls & we will see you again soon.
