The Tuns at Sadberge in Darlington

place was freezing on arrival at 12.30 on a sunday. staff were lovely but food really let the place down. had the pork expecting it to have been carved from a joint only to get 2 loins. friend had beef and asked for pink but got well done. Disappointing but have to say staff were great.

Called in with my dog on way home for some food and drinks. Very cosy friendly village pub with a tasty menu and excellently cooked. My stake was cooked perfectly and the dog was treated very well by owners and the locals. Food was excellent value for money

We visited today to sample the Sunday lunch menu, which had a great choice available, including a vegetarian option. The service was quick and efficient with delicious, nicely-presented food. A nice range of desserts to finish off the meal. Overall, the place has a warm, family feel with friendly and attentive staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will be returning soon to try out the main menu.

Sunday dinner was wonderful, beef and pork with crackling both some to perfection. Veg and gravy are superb - We will be back!

Possibly the worst dinning experience ever. Be warned. Booked for Sunday lunch. Unfriendly welcome from a male member of staff who was left alone to manage the bar, wait on tables, clean and set tables and was clearly not coping with the workload. He showed us to an undressed table having walked past two tables full of dirty plates, glasses etc. As he was about to run off ( literally ) we managed to ask him for our drinks. He did return promptly and told us he would be over with the menu. 35 minutes later we were still sat there waiting with our empty glasses, no menu, no order, no food and still the table not set up. The male member of staff continuing to run around like a headless chicken smelling condiments he was taking to a table for people fortunate enough to be served. As we sat there we did witness two other people who appeared to have been staff, a female that made an attempt to clear a table but subsequently only took away one plate but left cleaning equipment for the beleaguered male staff member. The final nail was the landlord who suddenly appeared from what we believed was the kitchen area, he looked over toward us then proceeded to lean on the bar top a play on his phone. We left, not before having a word with the landlord who was completely uninterested and told us to have a nice day.

Pub grub rather than high end and they had run out of a couple of things. Food was nice though and service was spot on. Pretty quiet for a Saturday evening.

Lovely Food and Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Refit looks amazing and the suntrap beer garden is unreal. Definitely could loose a few hours watching the world go by in there.

Went for Sunday lunch, food was exceptional, portion size perfect. Went for the Trio of meats and it was all cooked well. Unusually enough the star of the show was the mustard mash. There was live music on when we went which was nice and the place is dog friendly which is another bonus. Would recommend and definitely come back.

Very good atmosphere, staff efficient, friendly and attentive. There was a good choice on the menu, and the cost was very reasonable. Four of us had a good cross-section of the menu, and all agreed the food was very good quality. Excellent value for money, and would certainly recommend.

We took close friends for a meal out and we all loved our meals at The Tuns. I had home cured trout with beetroot pearls for my starter, it was very tasty and great to have have something different. Salmon fillet for my main was equally lovely and lemon posset dessert was light and refreshing. The new people have only been running The Tuns for about 18months, it is clear that they are passionate about their food, preferring to use local suppliers whenever possible and to keep the menu constantly fresh as seasons change.

I needed a place for my 21st birthday, with it being the 20th December… 5 days before Christmas I thought it would be hard. The owners were more than happy to close for the evening!! Nothing was too much, the food was AMAZING, everyone absolutely loved it!!!!! I can’t thank both Emma & Sylwester enough for such a fab night!!!!

My wife and I ate at The Tuns on Saturday. The three course Christmas market menu was delicious and excellent value at £25 each.

Wish I'd found this place sooner... Located in the quiet village of Sadberge, The Tuns is an ideal excuse to have a drive or even a wander out! Very welcoming staff, warm, clean and cosy atmosphere is a perfect combination for a nice cheeky beverage or 2 by the log burner. The food is delicious and cooked by people who clearly know what they're doing. It's refreshing to see a place that changes their 3 course, reasonably priced menu every month, which coincides with what is in season and what is available locally helping the local economy. I've eaten here many times and never left disappointed. I ordered off the set menu and the Pub Classics menu, which is also a nice touch that you can mix and match dishes to suit you. I had the Korean Belly pork to start which just melted in your mouth and then being from Middlesbrough I had to go for the parmo. And to any of my fellow "boro" folk reading this, definitely in my top 3 favourite parmos of all time 👌 the chicken to bechamel ratio was spot on and I had a pork belly topping which again was so tender it just melted. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love this little place. Excellent food and a really pleasant place for a drink. Visually, it's a listed building in a small rural village in the North East of England, so it's a great destination, it's kept clean and tidy and decorated in a way that's in keeping with the aesthetic expected of the place. I enjoy popping in for a pint of Hawkstone and a sit by the log burner in the colder months. The outdoor seating options are great for summer. Tremendous service, the place is independent and family run, so has a very welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. There is a fairly hefty step at the front door to be mindful of in terms of accessibility, but I think I saw wheelchair accessible entrance towards the beer garden at the back. The real gem though is the food. The kitchen is clearly staffed by talented chefs who change the special monthly market menu regularly to reflect seasonal and local produce, and challenge themselves creatively with some really interesting, invariably tasty stuff, alongside some tremendous classics.

Very expensive!! Each main was £17. Starter was £5 for 4 calamari ring, teaspoon of mayo & half a sour dough roll. Wine, not even large over £6 a glass Be aware.

Just had a great meal here tonight. Food gorgeous hot and beautifully presented. Had 3 courses not rushed and waiting staff were very attentive. Will definitely be back. Thank You.

The Tuns is a quaint little pub in Sadberge. Food was presented nicely and quickly. Although we ate outside which was quite a way from the kitchen the food was still hot as the staff were quick to get it to the table. We had a Sunday lunch which was delicious and tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful, one thing that makes me leave a good review is when staff remember the drinks that were ordered when we first arrived and they were quick to refill our glasses. Definitely will return to enjoy another meal and drinks.

First visit today, lovely pub extremely welcoming and staff all lovely. Very accommodating of my dog and nothing too much trouble. Had the penne carbonara absolutely delicious and reasonably prices. Would highly recommend this place its beautifully decorated and your guaranteed a warm welcome and some lovely food.

Staff are friendly and attentive, food is excellent, will definitely be going back regularly. I had pork Saltimbocca, it was cooked to perfection, the meat just melted in your mouth, wonderful. There were non-meat options and they cater for dietary needs. Do yourself a favour and book a table soon. Aspall cider on draught, and great food, what's not to like?

Restaurant week, first time here, and food was fabulous, and Hannah, who was on her own in front of house did brilliantly, answering all our questions and was very attentive, chatty and friendly 😀.

Lovely country pub. Went in for drinkies, bar staff friendly and helpful. Seating is just lovely and comfy. Nice atmosphere. Teeny disappointed in the lack of choice of follow on drinks...we wanted a night cap of Amaretto, only enough in the bottle for one, with no new bottle available, and small choice of alternatives, no huge inconvenience, but plan ahead guys, its a super popular drink, as is Baileys. Didn't try the menu, but it looks lovely. Spent a lovely hour and a half chatting in pleasant surroundings 😊

Six of us had an evening meal. The food was great, the service excellent and there was a lovely ambience. We'll definitely go back.

Booked a Friday evening dinner via Messenger. They replied quickly with confirmation. Four of us had a great meal with friendly service and great beer! The Chef even came out after the meal to thank us and get feedback! Really good experience.

First visit since re-opening and it will be my last. Went in on a Sunday afternoon for a few beers and sat outside. When I went in to order a second drink it was in darkness and the member of staff told me they were closed. This was at 4.10pm. When I asked why so early on a Sunday I was rudely told that ‘the staff needed a life as well’ . Should have thought about that before agreeing to own/work in a pub. I reminded the ‘lady’ that the sign outside stated open until 6pm on a Sunday to which she sarcastically replied ‘thank you’. No wonder it was empty

I could wish for nothing more when dining out.. The food : sublime/sooo perfectly tasty.. The atmosphere : so comfortable & relaxing.. The environment : has great pub vibes inside with an outside experience of pure excellence... Love it.. Can’t wait to bring friends next time! Really sad to see netting has gone up to stop the swallows nesting. This used to be the highlight of our visit when coming and I can’t understand why such a barbaric thing would be done. To stop droppings you can put up a shelf or something to catch them below. Our poor swallows have flown from Africa to come back to their home and you are stopping them from doing so. Really upsetting

Superb quality food, cooked to perfection every time we visit. We recently chose The Tuns for our wedding reception and again we were not disappointed. The service and the food were fantastic. A friendly, professional team. Our wedding guests were blown away by the quality of their meals. We are so pleased we chose them to host our special day.

Came here just through seeing good reviews on Google, first visit staff very friendly and accommodating... Food was out of this world really tasty everything cooked perfect... Only addition would be from my daughter she was gutted their was no turnip as its her favourite veg 😂 think if I asked the team they would of done it..... We will be back 👍

A nice welcome from a young lady. Last time I visited this pub was 50years plus when we were visiting relatives former police sergeant Fred Breckett , Middleton St George. Pictures over the green. Well worth a visit on this traditional pub. Food menu look good.

Booked for Sunday lunch but won't be going again. Food was quite bland barring the cauliflower cheese. Gravy was like water (well what we were given) and charged £2 for an extra rather small pot of it. And charging £2.80 for soda water I just think is ridiculous.

Food was tasty and staff lovely , but for 52quid the meal should be hot and Yorkshire puds were not cooked inside and cold

Lovely little pub. Despite it being busy for a Sunday roast, the staff were all very attentive and friendly. Lovely little outdoor area and a small indoor soft play, which is handy! Dog friendly too. The food was absolutely gorgeous. I’ll definitely be back!

Friday afternoon, excellent menu, chose three different meals and all were perfect. Tasty, well cooked, well presented, substantial. Good choice of beers and local beers. Will be back to try their pizzas.

With prices set higher than most restaurants in Central London, I had high hopes for this place. The menu looks pretty impressive and I was excited to try this place. We booked a table and upon entering the pub it wasn't great first impressions, very unorganised set out and staff didn't look to know what was happening, venue very dated and in good need of a refurb. Staff were really lacking on general manners I.e slamming the drinks down on the table, and lacking general courtesy. I understand this is a challenging time for everybody in the hospitality industry, however more time needs to be invested in the training basic customer care skills. Our food took over an hour to come out and the quality of it was satisfactory. The chefs have created a great menu for this place but the quality of the food, staff and decor is a long way off the price points for the venue.

Great service . Best pizza in a long time. Friendly staff . And the muscles in tomoto were gorgeous !

The meal was lovely, great chunky chips and the pizza out of this world. The staff were brilliant and very attentive. The only downside was the smell of manure from local farm and a family who brought their dogs. I had to move seats as the dog was nudging me and I have a fear of dogs, that made the evening less relaxing than I had hoped for.

Our first time ordering takeaway from restaurant as didn’t think it would be the same quality as eating there... well have to say it was absolutely amazing! We ordered the Belly Pork & Parmo and both were exactly the same as they are when eating in... Fantastic!

Was our first time visiting after a recommendation from friend's. It was only our second time eating out since covid so first of all praise to Tuns for having everything set out to be covid safe. Staff absolutely amazing, so welcoming, had a bit of chit chat, explained all the specials and as soon as our drinks were empty they were over asking if we wanted a top up. Now onto the food...considering its a pub the food was easily restaurant quality. The starters are huge and super tasty, the pork belly dish was to die for so tender you could just put your fork through it. The whole place is just great such a nice atmosphere. Will definitely be returning and would definitely recommend for anyone to visit.

The Tuns was recommended to us as a must try. We spent a Saturday night out with friends at the Tuns and we found it had a welcoming friendly atmosphere. All of the staff couldn’t do enough for you. The food throughout the night was amazing and great value for money and at a very high standard. The Tuns is a little gem in the heart of Sadberge with great food and drinks. We will be returning and recommending the Tuns to all of our friends.
