Oriental Star in St. Helens

Lovely guy but l'm sorry to say he should clean himself up a bit and make sure his hair stays out of the food. Omelette not cooked properly. Probably the worst l've had in years. Had to bin it, after the hair. I tried.

Superb food,reasonable,friendly staff they also have a delivery service. Food is great value for the price

Ordered Chips, Rice and Sausage with curry sauce. £4.70 not bad. Just the food was unbearable and I mean like the rice had bits in it like old pieces of chicken. Almost as if the wok wasn’t cleaned after the previous customers order. Chips were bad too, sauce was oily and sausage was raw in the middle. And then the guy cooking it doesn’t remotely look hygienic. Dirty shoes and dirty clothes. Bits of food on the side in the background. How is this place even open still. It was quite shocking to be honest. I’m just gonna stick to Aldi ready meals and air fried frozen chips for a nice easy dinner. Can’t get over how bad the standards are.

Absolutely disgusting, do not waste your money. Food was so dry and spices not mixed in properly. The chef looked like he being sleeping rough his coat was that dirty. Huge hair in the spring roll. I wish I’d of taken it back and got my money back it was that bad. Stay well clear

Always good food .. especially Malaysian! Menu leaflet has just changed .. more combinations and helpful options based on customer requests. Has just added a page of interesting explanations about the origins of popular dishes. Worth a visit.

Man is the OG legend. We dine in there regularily. The food is plenty and cheap. You can actually see and taste different spices and vegetables added to the meats. Place is family run and the man running it always greets us with a smile. Great takeaway overall. I particularily like their black pepper beef and crispy chicken.

1st time here ordered special fried rice X2 curry X2 chips and prawn crackers absolutely delicious large portions friendly will be back thankyou

We go to Oriental star often, at least twice a month for the last 2 years if not longer & I can honestly say we ave never had a meal what we haven't enjoyed, I'm not 2 keen on the big chunks of veg what is put in the trays but when I asked if they wouldn't put it in they was OK about it, anyway we're ordering from there tonight & I can't wait think I'm gonna have sweet an sour chicken (wiv no veg) & egg fried rice 😊🍜🥢 Also the guy who's at the front desk taking orders is so nice & friendly, makes you feel so welcome. So yea I recommend Oriental star 🌟on thatto heath road every time you won't be disappointed.

I've been getting take away meals from here for many years and keep returning for more. The family are Malaysian and they have some typical dishes on the menu. A really good option is to order Young Chow Fried Rice instead of "ordinary" rice with your main course. Hope they stay open throughout this lock-down!

Regular. Honey glazed chilli ribs, the best anywhere.

Only found this place last week and had a delicious meal. Had the crispy duck and the chicken curry and it was amazing so tonight we had crispy chilli chicken in Cantonese sauce and crispy beef in chilli sauce with salt and pepper ribs and chicken skewers and it was to fantastic. The gentleman taking the orders is very friendly and so is the delivery guy. 5* you can’t go wrong. We usually go to Rainford super bar but this is just as good as there. Great portions too. Thanks. Usually get great food from this place but tonight was very disappointing. Food was late, the driver went to the wrong address. We then got our food delivered that had been warmed up so much that the cartons had melted. Wont be using them again.

I've tried most Chineses around st Helens and this is up the top with with Chan's, I've ordered for here for a while now the salt and pepper Suimai are my favourite, also had special oyster, chicken and beef ginger and spring onion, chow main and special fried rice as well as the family have ordered banquets on numerous occasions every thing I've ever ordered has been very good value for money and quality of the meat is great too, right consistency for sauce for meals and delivery is always at the time they state, the staff are always very happy and friendly,defo my favourite keep up the great food and service x

Must of changed management and chef ordered duck it came burnt couldnt chew through it salt and pepper chicken was burnt n hoisin sauce was really watery phoned to complain and the guy wasnt pleasant at all and couldnt take criticism at all n decided he wouldnt deliver to me again and demand the food back disgusting never mind wont deliver i wont be ordering this used to be best chinese in st helens thats gone out the window

Unfortunately this takeaway has changed hands . Food is now not as it was . Might be that some like the change . It came to us unexpectedly. Shame that things change 😕

I live local to this business. Food is lovely. There is a young lady by the name of Carmen who looks after me every time we order . Barbecue ribs are the best ever . Delivery is quick and the food piping hot and tasty . I have used this takeaway on many occasions over the past few years and have not been disappointed. Well done Carmen, Keep up the good work . I think some people just like to moan just look at other reviews posted and it says it all. Never had a bad meal from this place friendly staff always on time and hot.

Best hot and sour soup I've ever had. Thai green curry is awesome. Staff are very friendly. I would give 5 stars but, recently, the opening hours have reduced, and the prices have gone up!

Ordered several items at 6.30 on sat night for delivery. I was told it would cost £26 and would be delivered within 45 mins.At 8.00pm we had to ring to chase it up. The lady said it was on its way, 15 mins later it arrived.we unloaded all the items and found 1 meal short.We rang again and reported it, they delivered the missing meal within 15 mins,(we were about 5 mins from the takeaway).all the meals we had were dreadful...chips had been obviously stood for a long while, curry was just an oily mess, spring rolls were nearl none existent any due to over cooking.All in all we will never use this takeaway again

Good food and reasonable prices probably the best in Thatto Heath

As a family we've tried all 14 Chinese takeaway's​ in st Helens and this is by far the best.

Malaysian nasi goreng is one of the best.. Must try

Rating this place 4/5 purely on the ribs. It's not my first choice Chinese take away but for BBQ ribs I haven't found better. Try it once in you life.

Really nice food and a good selection. Friendly staff too.
