Orelle in Birmingham

This is an overdue review however the feedback is needed, Visited here in a group for a birthday back in Jan, firstly asked if we could reserve a table for drinks we were told no, arrived at the place to be sat at the bar and not at a table. So we order our drinks start to enjoy our evening and take pictures, my friend had a selfie light and was told very rudely by a female member of staff that we were not allowed to use a light? Would not have been as bad had she asked politely but her attitude put a complete downer on our evening and we left - will not be returning here, the place is boring, expensive and not worth the coin - especially when there are so many great alternatives in the city centre.

I came to Orelle with a friend last night for a couple of drinks. Upon arriving at the bar, we were immediately welcomed and tended to by Leo. His energy, along with his knowledge of cocktails, which he shared with us as we were debating what to order, made the experience exceptional. As well as this, I could clearly see that he has such a passion for his craft, and his attention to detail was unreal. Overall, brilliant experience and a cosy, friendly atmosphere.

Expensive drinks. Nice ambience & good views of Birmingham. Good attention regarding service, waiter kept topping up our water too.

We had an amazing time visiting Orelle on Saturday night after being highly recommended to go. We certainly weren’t let down by the views, and the staff were extremely friendly, with Leo on the bar providing us great service, helping us to pick the perfect cocktails. We’ll definitely be coming back in the future.

Orelle was a place I never knew about. As a restaurant with a beautiful skyline view of Birmingham, this is really the main reason you come here. The staff are polite, and the food is excellent quality although (portion sizes are small). This is a place for those who have luxury in mind and have deep enough pockets to afford it.

Friday night date. Food and service was excellent. The atmosphere was perfect for a Friday with the restaurant almost full and the DJ providing perfect music for the evening. We had a full three courses and choose the steak to share. Prices are not cheap but value for money when all things considered. Will return in the future for a special occasion.

Been in Orelle twice now and both times have been absolutely exceptional. This time around we were served by Leo, he was polite and attentive to every need we had. The bar area was absolutely stunning as well and drinks were definitely worth every penny. I will definitely be back soon

Had an incredible birthday lunch at Orelle today. The atmosphere was extremely relaxed and the views over Birmingham were fantastic. We opted for the fixed price menu which was extremely reasonable for the quality of food over the 3 courses. Would definitely go again!!!

We visited yesterday as we had a voucher for three courses for 2 people from the Prix Fixe menu. Everything was absolutely exquisite from start to finish. We were greeted warmly by reception, seated on a table with lovely views as requested, and dutifully taken care of by our waitstaff. Especially by Mr Prosecco Man (sorry we didnt get your name) who kept our Bottomless Bubbles glasses topped up throughout lunch, who definitely needs a raise. We opted for a delicious french onion soup to start, followed by a wonderfully juicy piece of chicken for me, and a tender, flavoursome salmon for my partner. I would highly reccomend both of these dishes, they were both cooked to perfection and the accompaniments really complimented the dishes well. This was then finished off with a rich and gooey chocolate fondant, and a selection of ice cream and sorbet. Safe to say, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be booking again at our first opportunity. Thank you again for making our visit so special.

Would definitely recommend for special occasions, the view alone is worth it and the food was great! I'm not a huge meat eater but the meat dishes I tried were really good. Service was also amazing. My one gripe would be that the music was a little too loud but that's just me.

Saturday afternoon in Orelle. Lovely dining room, friendly, engaging, attentive staff, great food. The Oysters are amazing, sumptuous, highly recommend (i love the Oyster Bar. However, these Rock Jersey Oysters are sooooo good)

We went to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Beautiful restaurant, nice food and good service. Reason for not giving 5 stars is that the beef wasn’t cooked as we preferred. We will comeback and recommend to friends. Thanks Orelle

Great views from the 24th floor, and I would say the only reason to go visit as food and service is nothing remarkable otherwise.

Went for Sunday lunch in a group of four. From the moment we stepped into the building I felt we were taken care of. The service was excellent especially our waitress Michela. The food was fantastic. The views were amazing. For a special occasion I definitely recommend a visit.

Had a wonderful experience recently at Orelle. I have been several times and it never disappoints. A young bar person called Leo was really friendly and knowledgeable when we were in deciding on cocktails and gins.

Went to Orelle's on Sunday 1st March with friends to celebrate my birthday had a fabulous time the food was fantastic the staff members were all attentive and lovely the view of Birmingham was amazing and the 🍷 well let's just say it went down very well. All in all what a lovely way to spend my 66th birthday.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch. Really good roast meats and a vegetarian option with a good variety of vegetables. The starters and desserts were beautiful too. Great venue and very good service. Would highly recommend

Customer service was poor and cold. A couple of the waiters were really nice however the receptionist and manager came across really cold and rude. Only one of the 3 starters tasted good and I’d reorder and just one of our 2 mains were good. The lobster dish was so bad overall and chewy. I was really looking forward to enjoying this place as the venue was great and fancy for a special event but the food and service (except waiters) was disappointing. Would like to see something change.

Think it’s important to know that the Sunday lunch menu has changed. When we booked it showed a set price online and then when we arrived we were given a different menu significantly more expensive. It is good food and atmosphere but £29 is very steep for some chicken and vegetables.

My First Instagram Post… and It’s a Restaurant Warning! Never thought my debut on Instagram would be about dodging a restaurant disaster, but here we are. We waved, we called out, we even said hello loud enough to turn heads—still, no one noticed us. After sitting down at 6:10 PM, we didn’t get to order until 6:40 PM. In the end, we had to chase down a waiter ourselves. Talk about a workout before dinner! A friend recommended the famous Yaxiong duck breast—only to find out it was no longer on the menu. Fine, that happens. But instead of suggesting alternatives, the staff just hit us with a straight “no” and walked away. Every interaction felt rushed, like they were escaping us. Maybe we should’ve ordered an invisibility cloak instead of dinner? Service issues aside, let’s talk steak. We ordered a medium-well sirloin. What we got was steak with identity issues: pink on top, overcooked at the bottom, and tougher than a gym membership cancellation. Meanwhile, the medium-well filet mignon was perfect—so clearly, something went very wrong with the sirloin. When we mentioned it, the waiter insisted, “This is how we do medium-well.” I even challenged them: “Taste it yourself, and if you still say this is your standard, I’ll accept it.” Guess what? They took it back and replaced it. The second sirloin? Perfectly cooked, easy to chew—almost like the first one never existed. Suspicious, right? Oh, and about table service—we weren’t expecting Michelin-star treatment, but handing our used plates directly to the waiters while they told us to wait? That was new. To top it all off, after expressing our dissatisfaction, the fries finally arrived in a full portion. Was this an apology or just a delayed act of generosity? We may never know. Final Verdict: Fries！10/10. Pork chop！Solid choice. Filet mignon！Respectable. Sirloin (Round 1)！Tragic. Sirloin (Round 2)！Passable, but the chef still seemed angry at life. Would I come back? Only if I want a side of mystery with my meal.

Booked for a large party for my 30th. Had initial issues in booking getting responses from them, and the tone/ quality of communication came across as very abrupt/condescending. Alas, i looked past this and looked forward to the experience. Ultimately the service was very rushed, staff seemed stressed (which my guests commented on) But in good birthday spirits still payed a tip of close to £200. I enjoyed the cocktails and my food was good however many of my guests were very disappointed, with one offering to take me to ‘Ynyshir’ ‘to show me a real Michelin restraunt’ What was most upsetting was a guest had to cancel and rang Orelle, they were told that the dish they had pre-ordered would be removed from the bill. Having (admittedly my fault) not checked the bill on the night given its length and caught up enjoying my 30th, A few days later i noticed i was charged for my friend’s meal and after sending emails with evidence of the bill and the order list i was ignored. I believe i was ignored due to prior bad blood, over a disagreement on the phone. Not the sort of service and attitude you expect from a restraunt like this, especially after i gave them a second chance. Eating at Botafumeiro Barcelona a few days later i was reminded exactly how a restraunt of this caliber should and could be. Ashame

A gorgeous night spent at Orelle entertaining a client. The food and views were spectacular! The restaurant was busy and had a great atmosphere. A big thank you to Christina for sorting us a lovely table.

Took my gf out for a birthday meal, and service was very pleasant. Informed on how long each meal would take, and was regularly checked on by staff. I requested for a birthday dessert and this was also provided. The city view and aesthetics really add to the dining experience and would recommend!

Awful. Won't be booking the blackout dinner . Upon having a telephone conversation with the bookings team requesting halal stated on the bottom of the menu I was told I would have to substitute to vegan/vegetarian i won't be paying 100 per head. Just to eat vegetables. Why state to request and book 48hours in advance for the halal menu. Really wanted to spend my 10th anniversary here i guess not.

Have been to Orelle before but only for cocktails. So we decided an anniversary dinner and we were not disappointed. The service is brilliant, all staff very attentive right from the point of entering the cafe bar on the ground floor. The restaurant ambience is beautiful and the views incredible. The wine list is extensive . The food was delicious....oysters, ham hock terrine, onion soup, sea bream, salmon, rum baba and panacotta...all delicious. Fantastic meal, would recommend . The only downside.....its recommended to dress up....which is lovely...but there are still people turning up in jeans and trainers which I know we can't dictate what point wear, but when somewhere is quite special, this makes it disappointing.

Views are good but food is very bad. We had bread for starter and it was so hard to chew, cocktails were small and full of ice mainly. Main was decent but nothing special. It was my bday and they could not light up a candle for me. Overall, I will not be returning. It’s definitely not worth the price.

Incredible views, delicious food and customer service that goes the extra mile. This is what to expect when you visit Orelle. It's definitely a more exclusive experience, but it's worth every penny.

Beautiful food & beautiful view

the lady at the front desk with curly hair upstairs is very rude. was very rude when we were trying to get our jackets back. the food is okay the oysters were nice but the rest of the food is 5/10 with a bunch of random fancy stuff like sugared nuts underneath chicken balls? very random and the menu doesn’t have variety at all. the waitresses are lovely though. also it’s too dark in there - you can’t see anything at all not even the bill.

Having dined a fat amount around Birmingham I was looking forward to Orelle after hearing so much positivity recently. They did not fail to deliver. Our waitress Michaela was fantastic - bubbly and friendly, she genuinely seemed like nothing was too much trouble. We had the chateaubriand which was executed perfectly and the accompaniment was excellent. It’s evident the management have really invested in maintaining and excellent team - we couldn’t fault it!

Me and my boyfriend booked for my birthday mid December well in advance as with it being so close to christmas most places are fully booked. Received an email a few days before the date booked to say they had cancelled our reservation due to overbooking. What you mean is a bigger party who would spend more money want to book a table on that day last minute or if that’s not the case we should’ve been made aware with at least enough time to find somewhere else. Absolutely disgusting service, no notice at all had to scramble around to find somewhere with availability, we went to the Bank in Brindley Place and it was amazing.

I visited Orelle on 20/11/24 for my mums 45th birthday. From the previous reviews I had high expectations for this place. However upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by a freezing atmosphere- we did ask the waiters if there was a chance they could turn up the thermostat slightly however they advised me they cannot with no additional reason. For a supposed 5 star restaurant we expected better service. We also did not bring additional layers with us as my mum wore an evening dress and I wore an evening suit. As for the food, this was very nicely presented - however this was tasteless to say the least. I had asked for my steak to be served “Medium” however when I was cutting the steak it was bleeding quite a bit. As for the waiters, it seemed like they were catering to other guests more than ourselves - often leaving us to pour our own drinks and coming over in the last second to then do this for us. Also prior to making my booking - I enquired about the halal options to which I was told the steak was and wasn’t halal - this got quite confusing as I was told two different things by two different people. On the day - the waiter told me that the steak was halal hence my order - however I am now not sure if it was. I believe it is pure basics to know your own menu and to advise people correctly so overall this was quite a disappointing experience. *UPDATE 06/01/25 - No solution or reimbursement given to the problems endured, other than acknowledging responsibility on all reviews where critical feedback has been offered - Poor customer resolution

We had an amazing experience at Orelle! The food was outstanding – the beef tartare was perfectly seasoned, and the pork Sunday roast was delicious and cooked to perfection. The service was impeccable: Ricardo, the manager, ensured everything ran smoothly; Maya, our waitress, was friendly and attentive; and Marco, the sommelier, recommended the perfect wine to pair with our meal. This restaurant is a gem, and we can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!

Went for the Sunday lunch. The starters were lovely, the mains were ok. I opted for the pork because I suspect all of their other meats are haallal, based on reading what others have written here. Staff were friendly and helpful. As there were just two of us, we were seated right by the window, and the views were quite nice, seeing the city from high up. The bar downstairs looked nice but we just passed through quickly on the way in and out.

Great atmosphere, service is outstanding. We've been there just for cocktails 🍸 but next visit will be nice dinner as well.We had great time. 10/10.

Third visit, returning today for the Sunday lunch menu. Enjoyed a lovely festive cocktail on arrival. They serve a really great tasting Sunday roast here which I think represents good value considering the location, setting and service. Who knew the Birmingham skyline could offer such an interesting view! Service was welcoming, warm and Michaela was both charming and attentive. Will be back again soon, no doubt.

Great atmosphere, views of the city in a relaxed and sophisticated setting with lovely food and drinks. The food was excellent, but I wouldn't say for the place and style the food was elevated to give it 5 stars. I'm not saying it was nice, as the quality, taster presentation was all excellent. Just struggle to give it 5 stars as was expecting more. The ambience, setting and atmosphere was all excellent. Service was spot on. Can't fault it. Had a wonderful evening. The restaurant is on the 24th floor with panoramic views of the city. We would definitely return to try out seasonal variations on the menu as it's certainly a place to some and soak up the drinks and atmosphere.

Great venue and the views of Birmingham are a fantastic setting for a lovely meal or just drinks. Especially at night. Management and staff are excellent and are always looking to make sure your visit and experience is first class. Cocktails are really good too with an array of selection and made to perfection. Really well run establishment and is a great addition to Birmingham. Would highly recommend Orelle and looking forward to returning.

For my birthday, my husband surprised me with a reservation at this venue. I’d rate the venue’s elegance an 8/10—one point off because the tables were too small, and another because the atmosphere was overly dark. However, being on the 24th floor, the view was breathtaking, with the entire city illuminated beneath our feet. The view deserves a solid 10/10. As for the food, I’d give it a 2/10. The portions were tiny, the taste was disappointing, and it was extremely overpriced. Despite that, the service stood out. A young woman named Maya took care of us all night with exceptional kindness and a bright smile. We were very happy with Maya’s service—thank you, Maya! 👏

Food is average, and not the above and beyond you’d expect for this price point. The lobster is served with very little meat and in a fairly disturbing way. Environment was loud and echoey and the chairs are a bit uncomfortable after a while. The service was excellent. The menu is slightly limited in terms of dietary options.

We went to Orelle for my husband's birthday. It's on the 24 th floor with the views of the city. The service was warm and attentive. Food was well presented and absolutely delicious. The decor is minimalist but beautiful. Overall, recommended.

We had a reservation for 4pm and we were all running about 5 to 10 minutes late. My friend called up to say we’d be late but we are coming (it would have been in the 15 minute grace period anyway) and she was told we’d had to be there on time as the kitchen closed at 4?? And if we were late we’d be charged a £75 late fee. Anyway we arrived at 4:04 by the time we got the desk upstairs in the restaurant and then we were told to wait by the bar. The woman at the desk said there were two stools so two of us can sit down and our other friend can just stand. We were then made to wait 30 MINUTES for our table!! I mean what an absolute joke after being told the kitchen closed at 4 and that we couldn’t be late? Once seated we’re rushed to order food & we all order the 2 course Sunday roast. On the menu it states it comes with sides, gravy etc. When the food arrives we were given two sides of veg to share, one puny shot glass filled with gravy and two sides of cabbage? I just don’t understand how 3 adults are supposed to share 6 slices of a carrot, 1/3 of this ridiculous tiny glass of gravy and 6 pieces of broccoli? Like is this a joke? We ordered separate meals off the menu, it wasn’t a sharing platter. We had to ask 3 times for extra gravy and to give us the additional side we required. Because of this our food inevitably went cold. We did ask to take the service charge off by the end of the night. The dessert was delicious, food was actually lovely but the atmosphere and miserable staff was enough to make us want to walk out before being seated. It’s sad and disappointing because myself and one of the others with us are always going out to eat. It’s rare we stay home and eat and we enjoy becoming regulars at restaurants. We definitely won’t be back. 2/10 experience.

We booked for a birthday Sunday Lunch; as before, the wine list is comprehensive and diverse, the food was absolutely on point, with one minor difficulty with one dish that was very quickly rectified by the staff. Definitely one of the best Sunday roasts around currently. The staff were very attentive, but also friendly and appropriately jovial. Michela was our main server and really ensured the end of our meal was special, thank you. Recommended.

Really wasn't looking forward to visiting but dam was u wrong!!! Amazing food brilliant service and Michela our waitress was fantastic. I'll be visiting again in the night and also the summer for the views of my hometown

We had our Christmas party at Orelle. The service was superb. We had 3 course meal as shown in the pictures. All look and taste good. I love the creme brulee the most. The chicken breast was tender and juicy. Just thought it was small portions for my big appetite. Nevertheless, overall i enjoyed the experience.

This is probably my sixth visit and frankly I couldn’t care less what other people have to moan about, but can only talk about my own experience. We took my baby sister for her 21st birthday who has been wanting to come to the restaurant for nearly a year, But simply couldn’t find the time. Orelle is simply 10 out of 10 knock the socks off many Michelin star restaurants that I’ve been to in B’ham. The staff are very hospitable, food was incredible and the staff incredibly friendly I just like to say a massive thank you to the whole team and very much look forward to my next visit.

Lovely view from the 24th floor. Food is very tasty. Definitely a place to visit at least once. We had the whole experience, starter, mains, desserts and wine.

Went for cocktails downstairs on a Saturday night. Service was awful, drinks weren't very good. Have previously eaten upstairs and it's been completely different.

Fantastic experience at Orelle, first time there and had the best evening. The service was really attentive and the food was great, I would recommend the pork main. We even had a chat with the general manager who was so welcoming which was a nice touch.

Visited Orelle a few times and each time has been amazing!! Services always exceptional, great food and excellent drink selection would highly recommend going.

Excellent service from booking a table, to drinks at the bar and then at the table. A special mention to Mikayla who paid full attention to our dietary requirements and Recommend what to eat. We were not disappointed. We were given a corner table which had fantastic panoramic views of the skyline. A big thank you to all at Orelle who made it a night to remember. We had a lovely "afternoon!" here. Started with wonderful cocktails in the bar at lunch as we savoured the views then followed a wonderful late lunch and wine leaving around 6pm. Staff and service were wonderful. The food was delightful, we managed starters and mains and I would certainly recommend the Côte de Boeuf - cooked to perfection.

I chose this place to celebrate my birthday, expecting a special evening, but it turned into an absolute nightmare. The service was beyond appalling. The staff were not just inattentive but downright hostile, glaring at my guests and snapping at us as if we were inconveniencing them by simply being there. It felt like we had to wave flags or stage a protest just to get a server’s attention, and even then, they responded with icy glares and curt, borderline aggressive tones—shouting at us from across the room instead of approaching like professionals. The meal itself was a disaster. We were left to eat our food completely dry, as no one bothered to provide or even offer basic condiments. No one checked in to see if the food was to our liking or if we needed anything else; we were essentially abandoned at our table. I’ve had more attentive service at a fast-food drive-thru than at this so-called “fine dining” establishment. If it weren’t for the wine connoisseur, who showed a glimmer of professionalism, the evening would’ve been a complete waste. His expertise was the one saving grace in an otherwise dismal experience. Needless to say, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone—not for a romantic dinner, a celebration, or even a quick meal. If you value your time, money, and dignity, steer far, far away.

I chose the restaurant to make a birthday for a friend special but was my worst disappointment . 1. Too cold! I now have a cold and we were uncomfortable all through. I had given notes to write happy birthday with the name. When they brought the cake non chalantly and said "they are told someone's birthday is on this table" it lacked a personal touch and we felt really down the whole time and left without dessert. We couldn't wait to get away. This is definitely my last visit. The food presentation was also very poor.

It’s a pretty place and the waiters are lovely but unfortunately the food was absolutely terrible, the starters were still edible but the mains were terrible., we ordered a steak some rice and the soup of which only the soup was edible, the waiter was nice enough to remove the steak from our bill hence the 4 stars for the service but the actual food is awful. Unfortunately I’d honestly say don’t go and save yourself the disappointment.

This is a good restaurant with justifiable hype about its appearance. We had a table right on the edge of the restaurant and the view of the city is unmatched. The staff were friendly, if occasionally forgetful, and it could be hard to hear them as Saturday night appears to be party night - loud DJ-spun music which is oddly out of keeping with the French fine-dining vibe. Bear in mind if you have hearing issues. The menu and cooking was very good, and the wine list great. We had lobster and steak, both of which were cooked well. Had to remind staff to bring a couple of the sides. After an excellent bottle of Nyetimber, I ordered a coffee to finish - and it's nice to see Orelle continue the fine restaurant tradition of really terrible coffee after a great meal! Literally undrinkable, bitter coffee. (Why can't restaurants serve good coffee??) However, on a very positive note, the waitress spotted I hadn't drunk it, and deducted it from the bill. Definitely worth a visit.

I recently visited Orelle for a Sunday dinner with friends. The location is stunning, and the staff was genuinely polite and welcoming. We all enjoyed the starters, which set our expectations high for the rest of the meal. Unfortunately, the experience took a downturn with the main courses and desserts. The steak was tough to the point of being inedible, and the pork lacked flavor entirely. The desserts were equally disappointing and didn’t meet the standard set by the starters. Additionally, a friend ordered an extra main—a chicken roast dinner—and we were shocked to find it charged at £58, far above the two-course price of £34. Charging that much for an extra plate of chicken seemed unreasonable. Overall, the experience didn’t match the prices. While we appreciated the ambiance and hospitality, the main dishes and unexpected charge left us dissatisfied. I wouldn’t return based on this experience.

This restaurant is very good. Food tastes nice. The beef ,although I ordered for well-done, but it was perfect. The service was great, too. I gave 4 stars due to the music. The music that was played made it seem you were in a nightclub(it wasn't a relaxing music). I'll visit again.

Fantastic views, but awful service, had table booked for 1hr 30 mins for drinks only got 2 drinks due to lack of service, asked for water 3 times without it arriving. Raised issues with manager who offered no apology and just sent a wait with water. Very poor service

Food was nice, lovely atmosphere. Service was appalling! When asked to take service charge of the waiter started giving dirty looks, did not even say thank you to when we left just started talking to her colleague about us and looking at us. Felt very uncomfortable not coming back. Staff are not professional at all.

This is fine dinning at its peak, my friend and I had a brunch off the fix prixe set menu and our expectations were met and beyond. Ordered the corn fed chicken for the mains, which comes with mash and veggies and gravy, everything was well seasoned and tastes so good even till the last drop. We had the deserts as well, I had creme brule which I loved, I had a glass of red wine, loved it. and need I say the ambience itself is breathtaking, the views, and the food all contributed to a wonderful experience. Everything is 💯. Including Staff 👌.
