This was a wonderful indulgent treat, gifted by a good friend. We had a 3 course lunch, where the plates were small, but there were so many little extra courses we certainly did not leave hungry. For me the many tasters was wonderful as I can get bored of one large plate that loses its individual tastes. The service was immaculate, I even had a footstool for my handbag!

Faultless. Visited for my wife's 40th birthday, and was welcomed with a "Happy Birthday", a card from the team and left with a small box of chocolates, really helping to make it feel special. The food was amazing and as it was a Thursday lunchtime it was quiet, so felt like we had the place to ourselves. Highly recommend, and my thanks to the team.

Me and my husband often do tasting menus and have been to a few Michelin star restaurants and I have to say this is probably the best one we've ever been to. The food was amazing, varied and of course full of flavour (we had the plant based menu which we often find has more effort into the flavourings). We had wine pairing which I'm often unsure of, as I feel rushed. This experience was not like that, the wine amount is just right, sommelier lovely and knowledgeable and it pairs perfectly. What I also have to say is, although it's Michelin star, it doesn't have the pretentiousness that often comes with it. The service was brilliant, friendly and the dishes come out on respectable plates which is all about the food and not the plate if that's makes sense! I never submit reviews but I really had to say this is a must go if you're into Michelin tasting menus and are vegan!

Me and my partner visited with my parents to enjoy Sunday lunch. The restaurant is lovely and service was friendly and unpretentious. Sadly the potatoes brought out as sides with the Sunday Roast Beef were cold and had to be sent back. Nevertheless we enjoyed the service and meal overall and would return.

After two weeks of leftovers and beige dinners this was a great way to round off the Christmas festivities and start the New Year. Great evening @simpsons_restaurant Birmingham and thank you to front of house Freddy (due to be a dad any day now), waiter Lucas (good luck with the accountancy training) and Sommelier Thomas (good luck in the new role) for their friendly yet professional service. From the moment we arrived, the snacks, Prestige Menu with wine Pairings was faultless. A rare treat and great experience. Thank you for a wonderful evening. We will be back. Simpson’s is a true gem and fully deserving of its Michelin star. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable, with Lucas ensuring every detail of our evening was flawless. His attentiveness and warm demeanor made us feel truly cared for. The dishes were stunning, both in presentation and flavor, showcasing the chef’s exceptional creativity and use of seasonal ingredients. Thomas, the wine sommelier, elevated the experience even further with his perfect pairings and insightful recommendations. His passion for wine shone through, making each selection feel personal and memorable. The ambiance was elegant yet inviting, creating the perfect setting for a special night out. Simpson’s is an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves fine dining and extraordinary service!

The best restaurant experience in the world! The food here is absolutely unbelievable – and the staff are wonderful. For the last few years, my girlfriends and I have held our annual Christmas get-together in the private dining room at Simpsons and it is a fabulous treat which we look forward to all year. This year was no exception – the food was beautiful – they were kind enough to change the menu to suit us, including to treat us to their world, famous soufflé in a tiramisu flavour this time – truly amazing! A huge shout out to our wonderful waiter Lukas, who was so kind and looked after us perfectly; and to Papi, who was very tolerant!Hopefully we weren’t too badly behaved, and will be allowed back next year?! Thank you again Simpsons team and we wish you a wonderful Christmas xxx

Celebrating an anniversary. The kitchen is headed up by Luke Tipping. With a very talented young brigade. Options for dining are a 3 course lunch. A classic 5 course or the Prestige tasting menu, which we chose. To begin the meal, three delightful canapes, followed by fresh homemade sourdough and black olive rolls. Served with mushroom butter and a roe dip. First course was a tasty bowl of mushroom set custard. Followed by a very pretty salmon & lobster ravioli. Next, was a little surprise extra dish of scallop with fermented carrots and black pudding. The fish course was Sea Bass with spinach cooked in goats cheese.Although it was nice,we're not sure if this combination works. A very healthy, refreshing beetroot dish was next. The meat course of Highland venison was succulent and tender. Pre-dessert was a burnt cream served in an egg shell. For the finale,an outrageous Tiramisu Souffle. With a chocolate sauce & amaretto cream. It was a very enjoyable lunch with excellent service and a pleasure to meet two young, very talented chefs, Evan & Jordan.

Wonderful setting, staff and food to match. We visited on a Sunday lunchtime to see how a “Michelin star” does Sunday roast and wasn’t disappointed. Something so simple can often be ruined but less is more, quality over quantity prevails! Eureka Cookery Class We came here for the Saturday cookery class. 9am - Tea and coffee together before we started, a quick tour of the restaurant and kitchen then upstairs to watch the chef dispatch the biggest lobster ever seen then watch him cook it. We cut off a chicken legs and wings and removed the wish bone then watched the chef cook it and prepare the jus. We rolled out pasta made by the chef to make lobster ravioli using the prepared lobster mix in a piping bag given from the chef. We watched berries and apple be prepared and then used a piping bag of frangipane to fill out pre-made tarts. The recipe guide will come in useful at home as a reminder of specifics such as the temperature to keep chicken extremely juicy. 1pm and we were enjoying champagne, beef tartare, cheese tart and fish bite together before our meal. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and the three wines were delicious as was our meal of lobster ravioli, chicken and apple puree and frangipani tart with cream. It was lovely to spend 6 hrs with 5 strangers talking about everything and anything. Pros: 1 Michelin star restaurant with delicious food and amazing knowledge. Definitely a unique experience. Cons: you spend a long time watching the chef doing the prep and cooking and not much hands on (understandable with the time constraints).

Located just outside Solihull, this beautiful restaurant is almost a 'blink and you miss it' type place. Parking area can only accommodate about 7 or so cars but there is a pay and display across the street. There is a surprising garden area when you go into the restaurant and some of the flowers are used within the dishes. The service is as you'd expect from a Michelin Star restaurant, being very attentive and meticulous. The food was exceptional, with some truly memorable dishes (especially the Beetroot dish and the Passion fruit Souffle). There was some clever usage of cutlery in the souffle dish, as the texture of the spoon gave texture to the dessert. Well worth a visit if want to treat yourself.

We have known about Simpsons reputation for years, but never managed to find a table. We made a concerted effort to book for my wife’s birthday and it was so good. We had the 7 course taster menu, which was absolutely delicious. We also took the wine pairing, swapping any red for white, none of which was a problem for the sommelier. We had the plant based tasting menu. Overall it was nice. The presentation of the food and service was flawless. However, for a couple of the courses the flavours felt a bit tame and underwhelming. There are so many options available when it comes to plant based ingredients, but if you limit yourself to solely using homegrown U.K. veg, then it can be quite difficult to surface truly inspiring flavours. The pre-dinner snacks and bread were really nice. Plus I really enjoyed the raspberry cheesecake dessert. It’s inspiring to see restaurants like Simpsons spearheading plant based cuisine at the Michelin star level. We will be back to try it again for sure.

I have been visiting this restaurant on occasion for the past twenty years. I have happy memories of some of my visits, One of my best meals ever was when I came with some vegetarian friends and we had the vegetarian tasting menu. However, this last visit was less successful. When I arrived I was really pleased to see the beautiful modern glass chandeliers. I had forgotten how beautiful they were. I was with a friend celebrating a big birthday. The restaurant made an appropriate celebration for her. Thank you. Our cocktails were memorable as were the canapes served with them. It was worth the effort of coming here just for them. Both my friend and I are vegetarian and we had the vegetarian menu but there was limited choice so as a result I ate things I would usually avoid on a menu elsewhere. The dessert was rhubarb. It looked spectacular bur rhubarb is rhubarb and there is not much to like about it. It might look good but school dinners comes to mind The atmosphere was Spartan. The lime green wall reminded me of a kitchen table I had in 1968 and did nothing to enhance the beautiful glass wall lights. There was nothing warm and cosy about the seating arrangement. Come here and try this restaurant for yourself. It has a lot of good things going for it.

We missed having pristine table linen as in covering and the room just felt a little cold and soulless. You don’t go to a Michelin starred restaurant and not expect to pay handsomely however I concur with other contributors who have reviewed in that it’s actually getting way too pricey … lovely Christmas treat for myself and my family though and we enjoyed ourselves - just didn’t get the wow factor with the experience as a whole ….

This remains one of my favourite restaurants in the UK. The core is superb ingredients, expertly cooked, and served with skill. They are not trying too hard. The house and dining rooms are gorgeous. The staff are knowledgeable, professional and attentive. Oh, and friendly. I’ve become disillusioned by much more expensive restaurants which used to have a reputation for excellence (like Le Manoir), but at half the price Simpson’s delivers. Consistently.

We went for a lovely dinner and experience the small bites of food were lovely unfortunately the soup was inedible and my husband and I have very different tastes, but both of us found it awful so sweet we had blade of beef which was so overcooked it was awful we had a waitress literally throw something on table on a saucer, we asked what it was when she returned as we had never seen chicken skin butter, would not recommend. The manager told my husband maybe it was a too sophisticated taste for us. We were at Savoy the week before and eat in the best places all over the world. But thank you for putting us down we did not eat anything apart from one mouthful of each course, we paid our drinks bill and left and had food elsewhere don't bother going there are far better restaurants in birmingham

My girlfriend and I came here for a birthday meal. We were both quite impressed by the building and the decor. The staff were polite and friendly. We both opted for the taster menu, I chose the plant based one along with the wine pairing. The food was ok, colourful, and flavoursome, but there was nothing to get exited about. I really can't see how you can charge £130 pounds for the plant based menu. It really doesn't show. Two of the dishes were a rissoto, and I felt that most of the dishes tasted the same. My favourite part of the menu was the wine tasting. Which at £95, I thought was quite reasonable.

The food was superb, as you'd expect from a chef of this calibre. However that is where the 'wow' dining experience ended. I've not been before to Simpsons, but have eaten at other Michelin starred restaurants. On arrival we were greeted by the wonderful concierge who we couldn't fault for professionalism. We were told our table was ready but we could have drinks in the lounge first if we'd like. The 'lounge' area, if you could really call it that was cold, sterile and reminded my wife an I, of sitting in an NHS dentist waiting room. Worn floors and scuffed skirting, totally lacking in any sort of atmosphere or 'theatre' befitting somewhere that I was about to spend upwards of £100 per head on dinner. Drinks were served and were delicious. We decided to be taken into the restaurant due to the unwelcoming atmosphere in the lounge area. I was expecting great things, but yet again was seriously disappointed. It took us some time to work out what it was about the dining area that jarred, and didn't work. The awful colour scheme, the lacklustre tables and clinical, although comfortable, chairs. And then we worked it out. It had the same feel and ambiance of the foyer area of the Core theatre in Solihull, the sort of place you would spend as little time as possible waiting for the intermission to be over. From the glaring, cold lighting in a 1990's style, the pine beams reminiscent of functional expansive opera house ceilings, the totally lack of heating! I have had the pleasure of dining in a huge variety and style of eateries, and this was by far one of the oddest places. To spend no small amount of money on a meal should be an experience, to delight all the senses, and the food element of this was exquisite, but that is unfortunately where the experience ended, having the feel and atmosphere of a school canteen rather than a Michelin Starred restaurant of some renown. The waiting staff were attentive and professional from beginning to end. However could have been a little more 'polished' in the finer details. Spilling the wine down my wife's glass, splashing sauce on the table cloth. These may seem like minor grumbles, but were I wearing a very expensive suit, these would definitely not have been.

Very expensive for what we had. Although food was good without the bread we wouldn't have been full. We will never go back itcwas like eating in an up market cafe. Very disappointed

Went here last night for our daughters birthday dinner. There was some variation on the tasting menu from the last time my wife and I had eaten here earlier during the year, but once again, eating here was a lovely experience. All the staff were exceptional, and as always, it's the staff who make the evening special. From the front of the house greeting to the sommelier, the waitresses who served us, and Freddy behind the bar all made our evening special. Being introduced to the kitchen staff was also a highlight. All three of us would whole heartedly recommend eating here.

I didn’t expect to be able to have any criticisms about Simpsons and whilst they’re minor, they did mucky the experience a little. Don’t get the wrong, the food was absolutely sublime, but I wouldn’t recommend the incredibly expensive wine pairing and the decor is just a bit shabby and in parts, generally odd! The floor of the conservatory is very dated and scruffy, as are the blinds on the ceiling where they have water stains on them. Not something I think I was ready for. The exposed brick wall was lovely but I don’t there needs to be all the ‘ode to Michelin’ throughout the restaurant. I’d suggest that any award over a year old just needs to be put something out of site. It made it a little tacky. Please don’t let this take away from the food, because that was a taste sensation with every course, but could be a better dining experience.

Anniversary lunch menu was perfect. Great how the place has kept pace with the various changes in dining expectations.. Good to see the customary 3 course set menu ( with choices) back. Annoyingly for the kitchen we only had 100 minutes at table due to a must not miss hospital appointment but they succeeded with time to spare. Simpson’s remains a jewel in Birmingham’s dining crown.

This is a favourite of our parents who live close by, and they finally brought us for a special birthday. And what a treat. The service is faultless, and the food fantastic and absolutely beautiful. One of our group is a celiac and the care and attention they gave in catering for her was amazing. Will definitely visit again.

Taken a while to write as I don’t tend to complain but on reflection I did want to share experience. This was our second visit to Simpsons - the first visit some years ago was amazing hence booking for my husband’s retirement meal at the end of June 2023. We arrived on a Sunday for lunch - taken to our table and from that point I have to say it was disappointing. Staff were moving tables and chairs around after we had been seated, I would have expected this to have been done before the restaurant opened as it wasn’t great listening to the noise around us. Service was rushed - starters finished, main course arrived within minutes, quickly followed by our deserts, really wasn’t what I expected as previously there was lots of time between each course. Food, which of course should be of a Michelin star standard was very disappointing.. The starters were ok, The main course was belly pork - it was a small piece, approx 5cm square, and served tepid and had a spongy texture - I thought the top would be crispy - we could not eat it due to comments. Desert - disappointing too, one of the items they did not have so had been substituted. On our previous visit amuse-bouche were served between courses which really added to the experience - nothing like that this time. For the price we paid and given Simpsons is a Michelin star restaurant we were very disappointed with all aspects and will not be returning unfortunately.

Lovely venue. Party all settled for the 3 course lunch which was excellent with an unusual recommendation of a Brazilian red wine to go with the lamb which was an excellent pairing. Staff were all very professional and approachable. Will have to start saving for my next visits

I have been to Glyn Purnells, Adams, as well as a Michelin star in Switzerland... But so far Simpsons is my favourite. Three courses - off the 30th anniversary menu - and neither myself or my two fellow diners could find a single fault in any of it. I looked, I tried, I tasted, nope, absolutely nothing to fault. But that alone isn't enough because you can have perfect food in anything from a greasyspoon cafe to any other high end restaurant. What makes Simpsons my favourite so far is just the overall vibe. The restaurant indoor area is like someone's lounge. Michelin stuff on the shelf as well as other books. Big windows so you can look in the kitchen. Opened out restaurant area so you can look onto the garden (we went on the hottest day of the year so far) but equally in the winter I can imagine it would feel even more homely. Attentive staff who are at the same time relaxed and chatty if you want. The whole thing just works and it's just totally magic. Loved it.

Took my wife to Simpsons for our anniversary dinner. Turned out to be a special culinary experience. The restaurant has a nice garden, comfortable lounges, a gorgeous private dining room, but the main dining hall was a bit simple and somewhat disappointing. You can see the kitchen through glass panels but its not an open kitchen. We selected the tasting menu (gbp 130) but skipped the wine pairing ( gbp 90) because I wanted a special wine to celebrate our anniversary. The wine list has good breadth, covering wines from all corners of the world, a decent selection of wines by the glass but it lacked depth especially in Burgundy. I selected the Piper Heidseck Rare 2008, which impressively, was offered by the glass (gbp35) to start. It lived up to its reputation, full of vibrancy and complexity. However, I struggled to find a wine to match the occasion and menu, so I called for help from the resident sommelier. He walked me through options, probing my preferences and knowledge of wines and to my surprise revealed he had wines to offer that were not on the list! He rattled off some names but I was not moved, then he mentioned Coche Dury! My eyes lit up - this was imho the best white Burgundy maker. The sommelier offered us three possibilities from Coche Dury, the Meursault, Bourgogne and Aligote. He explained that they were only allocated 3 bottles of the Meursault per year by the winemaker, and since this wine is so difficult to buy, let alone find it in a restaurant, I went for it. The Coche Dury Meursault did not disappoint. It was fireworks on the palate and kept improving in the glass, and it was a wonderful accompaniment to the brilliant food.

The food was of the highest standard. Everything was perfect - flavour, quality, and presentation. The front of house team was spot on. They were attentive, but not overly so, and were massively accommodating to our gluten intolerant diner. A big shout out to the tapenard bread - stunningly good.

Bit of retail therapy followed by lunch at Rouge. We enjoyed a glass of wine while waiting for our meal, had the two course menu. The chicken was fine, if a little tough and apple tart and ice cream delicious. I wish I’d asked the name of the waitress as she was charming, made us smile every time she spoke to us. We didn’t wait long for our food and will certainly come again in our next shopping trip.

After our first visit on Xmas day we booked again last weekend for the seafood platter. We had been meaning to try this for some time & it didn’t disappoint. Along with the amazing food the service was impeccable once again. Thank you all for an amazing evening, we’ll be back again soon.

This is an overdue review however the feedback is needed, Visited here in a group for a birthday back in Jan, firstly asked if we could reserve a table for drinks we were told no, arrived at the place to be sat at the bar and not at a table. So we order our drinks start to enjoy our evening and take pictures, my friend had a selfie light and was told very rudely by a female member of staff that we were not allowed to use a light? Would not have been as bad had she asked politely but her attitude put a complete downer on our evening and we left - will not be returning here, the place is boring, expensive and not worth the coin - especially when there are so many great alternatives in the city centre.
