The woman serving needs a lesson in customer service. Her attitude is a disgrace, unfriendly, smarmy and down right rude…. Which is a theme in Uig. After a limited but unpleasant exchange I cancelled my order and wished her good luck. Who knew the simple act of ordering food in a tea room would be such an inconvenience. Happy to take the money I’m sure! Not this time. Its the eye rolling and huffing and lack of welcome and smile that is the main gripe I have.

I've stayed here every year for 10 years as a stop-off for the outer islands. bedrooms are fine in a fairly basic way but provide all you need. Not cheap but good vfm considering the ideal location. The owners have recently done a big refurb of the kitchen/dining area, superb and brought up to date. More improvements promised.

There are very few places in Uig to get food and drink. We'd initially walked into the cafe adjoining the Mace but looked like they were closing up for the day so came here instead. Wish we'd just gone without. We had a coffee, tea and large scone to share. The tea bags must have been a value brand so unless you like dishwater tea it was horrible, the coffee wasn't much better. The scone was goodness knows how many days old and extremely dry, also pretty sure it was shop bought and not homemade. The coffee machine is in the same room as the seating area so when they are making coffee you can't have a conversation without raised voices. It appears to be part of someone's house turned into an "eatery" in order to cash in on the tourism boom to hit Skye. The gentleman working there was really nice and friendly, the lady looked uninterested didn't know any of the prices and never smiled once. Our table was also uneven causing the majority of the coffee to be spilt. Possibly the worst place I've been to in a very long time.

I am a tour guide in Scotland and I was doing a 3 day tour in the Highlands and Isle of Skye with my clients. I always go for lunch to the Orasay tearoom in Uig and I bring my clients there. However, I received very bad customer service from the tearoom owner's daughter. I ordered a sandwich, then she told me she did not have this type anymore as one of my clients chose the same type of sandwich, then I ordered another type and she brought the new order as well as the old order which she had told me they were out of. Anyway, I told her I did not order 2 sandwiches for myself, I obviously ordered one after I was told they were out of my first choice. She kept telling me in front of my clients that it was my fault, that the sandwich was already prepared in the kitchen and that she has to serve it. While I understand that there was a miscommunication, it was the way she behaved with me as a loyal client who brings in business. I am not going to come anymore to this business as I was really frustrated from the service that was provided to me and my clients.

We also had a Brie and beetroot tart, which was a little disappointing since there was hardly any flavor in the tart. Staff is very helpful in funding alternatives for allergies, service was fast and friendly. The tea arrived swiftly, and the meal soon afterwards, although it looked far from appetizing The panini was as described, but it was served with a minuscule salad comprising lettuce which could have been hidden beneath a credit card and a small wedge of tomato - no salad dressing. I passed on dessert, although as I paid the bill, I noticed that there were several options available in the fridge which did look appealing. This is definitely one of the better lunch options in this part of the Isle of Skye. After a long wait for a table (ferry passengers had flocked the restaurant before us) we enjoyed our food: a cheddar & ham pannini which was made with mature cheddar and was very tasty, a cheese toasty with chips which met expectations as well as chicken nuggets with chips as well as sausages, baked beans and chips which were all as expected. There was no kids menu but this was foregiveable given the overall reasonable prices (e.g. GBP 4.95 for the two last mentioned meals our kids had). Picture the scene. 3.30pm on a chilly Saturday afternoon in (rather lovely and deserted) Uig and 4 motorcyclists pop into the Orosay for a cup of tea. There are 2 other customers, giggling in the far corner, and the remainder of the room was like the Marie Celeste. Empty tables but with plates and cutlery remaining...Then the owner appeared from the kitchen. Flustered and sweating. It was all too much for him - customers!I tried to order but he waved his hand and disappeared back into the kitchen, making 'busy' noises. We now understood why the young couple were giggling.5mins later the owner re-appeared, huffing and puffing. Blood pressure clearly high. Running a tea-shop was clearly looking like a very stressful bad career move. I gently suggested that he calm down - we were in no rush. The tea arrived and was, we all agreed, the best brew we had had on our 4 day trip to Scotland! So go to the tearoom. But treat the owner gently.

The isle of Skye by car seems to be conveniently separated into loops to drive around the island. Our first day driving around took us to Uig, remote but the ferry port for onward travel to the Outer Hebrides. It was busy around Uig with many vehicles lined up ready to board the 2pm ferry, and lots of people milling around. The weather was truly mixed, so a walk around the shops - a pottery, a beer outlet and a few more - was abandoned as rain lashed down and we headed for the Orasay Tearoom looking right on to the ferry terminal, and parking bays for ferry travellers. We were lucky to secure the window table in the tearoom. There is a super range of options on the menu and my husband went for the Broccoli Soup which came with lovely bread roll. I chose Carrot Cake - I never tire of a lovely piece of carrot cake - and we both had tea. The food was great, and the service very friendly. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying what they had too. Our bill came to £10.65 – excellent price for what we had. Definitely a perfect place to have a quick bite when in Uig.

Food was good, but not remarkable3. I had the chicken panini with pesto and chips. The sandwich was hot enough, but a bit dry. The chips were fine and what I would expect.4. The waiter (owner?) was pleasant, helpful, and had a good sense of humor.5. The menu had a nice selection of items6. The desserts looked great, but we were full.7. The waiter was familiar with gluten intolerance and had options for us.Things I might change:1. Have toilets for customer use. The sign in the restaurant directed us to the public toilets down the street. 2. Accept credit cards. It sure makes it convenient for us foreign travelers. I tend to spend more with my credit card rather than risk exhausting the small amount of cash I bring along.

Avoid this place . Poorly cooked frozen fish and staff who see you as sn inconvenience. They add a 10% service charge and offer rubbish service.
