A group of us have met here twice a year for say 15years always had really good service and food. Today the restaurant was close so had to eat in the bar. Initially the bar service was good! Food menu looked quite interesting although I think £32 for a steak is a rip off. We ordered our staters and mains from the bar - it was ages 45m8n before the staters came and not together. The mains took again a fare time to arrive- poor. Overall very disappointing and we shall not return.

Were staying at the Moat House and had a wonderful Saturday night meal. The restaurant is bright and airy within a conservatory. The staff are amazingly good and make you feel welcome and go the extra mile in service. The food we had was excellent, from the amuse bouche to the dessert. My lamb was cooked to perfection. A good wine list with a wide selection by the glass. Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Moat House for 2 nights and booked the bar restaurant both nights as had stayed last year and food was good. However this time was really disappointing and not like our last visit. Food was just not great, simple fish and chips barely cooked not chips and crunchy. Meat from the grill overdone. Pasta overcooked and just a mass on the plate. Service good and took on board our comments but night 2 was just the same. Could do with some chef specials to stand out from generic pub food.

Huge thanks to the Moat House team for another wonderful evening of culinary exquisiteness. The attention to detail and phenomenal customer service with all my fussy requests was outstanding. We visited the restaurant for Saturday lunch. I read so many good reviews about it, we were really looking forward to a meal in the Moat. Unfortunately it was a massive disappointment, for the start to finish. The food was just awful, my husband ordered fish and chips. The fish was extremely oily and just tasteless, he felt sick after eating a portion of it and the chips were undone. I ordered duck breast and truffle and parmesan chips. Shame - no one asked me how I wanted it done as it arrived quite bloody and I didn't enjoy it. It was blant, there was not enough sauce to add any taste to it, just two small dots. Didn't eat even half of it. Truffle and parmesan chips - well I couldn't find any truffle and it was so little parmesan on them you could barely see it. Again undercooked. Staff didn't ask us even ones how we liked our food. We tried to get their attention to get the bill so we could leave and get some food elsewhere (no luck here). At the end we had to leave the table and pay at the till and even then no one asked us how we enjoyed the meal. It is such a shame. Beautiful place, but the food was just awful and the service needs improvement. There was a baby show and wedding happening the same day so maybe that's the reason why it was so bad for us but still I was a paying customer and the standard should be the same for everyone. I will never be back.

We had a fantastic evening at the Moat House. The food was just divine and the customer service impeccable. The chef made a bespoke dish for me due to my allergies and preferences. We were blown away by the cuisine as always and enjoyed another really special evening. There was a lovely atmosphere in the Orangery with several birthdays and lots of happy diners. Still our favourite restaurant :-) Thank you to all the team xx

Surprised not to see better reviews here. We booked the Moat House hotel for a stop off when travelling down from Scotland back to Somerset. The hotel is a few minutes off the M6 and makes a bit of a change from a travel lodge etc if you want a break. Anyway, the Orangery Restaurant is part of the hotel and is really, really good. Like, properly good. We just had a three course meal preceded by beautiful home made bread, whipped butter and amuse bouche. Definitely not what I expected to find 5 minutes from the motorway. Seriously, if you are travelling up/down the M6 you really should try this place. The surroundings are maybe a little old fashioned, but not in a bad way, and the food, wine and service was excellent.

My husband and I had afternoon tea voucher for our 40th wedding anniversary. We were really looking forward to it but we're very disappointed with the level of service. When we arrived I found a hair in my teacup, not impressed. Had fresh cup which was chipped, so was my husbands. Had to wait for several times for service, finally got waitress attention. We asked for more tea and for remaining cakes to be boxed up. Waited and waited for tea, waitress had forgotten! Time to leave still no cakes, when asked for them took ages for waitress to come back and say there had been a mix up. Our cakes had been thrown away! She gave us a parcel which she said had fresh cakes in to replace ones discarded. We got home to find 2 stale scones and only half the amount of cake we asked to be boxed up. All in all a very disappointing experience. Not great value for the amount paid for the vouchers.

We were cruising the adjacent canal and decided to stop for a dinner. This was a Tuesday "grill night" so we opted for Rib-eyes and a bottle of Italian red which were all nicely presented and tasty. well cooked to our liking. Service could have been a little more pro-active (we had to ask for drinks a couple of times) but the restaurant ambiance was lovely with the Inglenook fireplace and panelling; whilst outdoors there were tables for eating outside around the lakes. Perhaps this is more of a wedding/corporate venue?

Food really good but service was lacking. We were a party of 10 mixed ages for a family lunch. Food was excellent but the service was lacking. We had to chase up drinks several times. There was a wedding and a baby shower so bar service must have been slow. Orangery restaurant itself was really nice just lacking a bit of atmosphere.

A beautiful spot but the restaurant was not up to scratch. A 10-15 minute wait at the bar every time we wanted to order food or drink (no table service), brown lettuce, overcooked steak, missing steak sauce and both main courses looked sparse and unglamorous. We got a free dessert when we complained, but the cheese plate came with rotting celery. Disappointing.

Wanted to go somewhere nice for breakfast where could be better than the Moat House. First checked what time the breakfast service was 9.00am - 11.00am so booked for 5 adults 2 children 10.00am. Arrived a little early, as soon as we got there we were asked by the server to order I explained that there was 4 more to come and we would wait until they arrived we were then approached by a male member of staff who said we needed to order as breakfast finished at 10.00am. The rest of the party arrived at 10.07am as soon as they arrived they asked to order (everything so rushed) no flexibility with ordering for the children asked for egg on toast told no it had to be off the menu. As soon as we had finished the table was cleared no time for another tea or coffee. There was no others having breakfast there on this day. On a good note food good bad note service poor.

We visited the restaurant on the night and I usually have problems as I am gluten free but our waitress Caitlin made me feel like nothing was a problem and had the chef changed all my meal to suit, I can not thank her enough she deserves a medal for how many times she went out of her way to make it perfect & the food was absolutely outstanding, so I would like to say a huge Thankyou to our waitress Caitlin and a 10 out of 10 for chef and his fabulous food, we will definitely be staying there again

Booked a table for afternoon tea to celebrate mum's 80th birthday. The setting is stunning, for those who have not been before it's a converted and extended farm house set around a lake in the lovely village of Acton Trussell. They have added a hotel- it was the first in the Lewis Group. Lovely oldy worldly bar with a fire place, the restaurant is set in the conservatory. The staff are genuinely helpful and friendly, especially the lead waitress. You have a choice of 8 teas that you get to see and smell before you say which one you want. The scones were delicious and still warm, and there was a good selection of cakes, but the sandwiches were very average...Shame as we all said it meant we would try some where else next time.

The Childrens Melon and Strawberry starter was very good, a big portion size and very fresh fruit. Onto main courses and Fillet Steak. Mine was cooked to perfection. We ate in the front Bar area of this restaurant. Definitely suggest you book a table.I believe the chef of the restaurant part is the same chef that prepares the meals in the front bar area and that he is an award winning chef. My only complaint is that the staff serving you are the same ones serving drinks in the bar so the service can be very slow. We were asked if we wanted some desert after our meal and they brought us a menu but never returned to get our order so we left after waiting a long time. Suggest you have people waiting on the table and different staff serving at the bar. Service was poor when bar busy which is most time.

Only small complaint was the time taken after a drinks order was taken for the drinks to arrive at the table and again the time waiting at the bar after the meal for a small drinks order as whilst the bar was busy it did not warrant the time it took.

The afternoon tea for 2 was £40 however we were also unexpectedly charged about £3 for bottled water which we were not aware we were going to have to pay for as we were under the impression it was tap water. Both me and my wife like afternoon tea. The Moat House is something special. .The food is very well presented. Cakes sandwiches and scones. All look like a work of art. The service friendly and professional. One is greeted by the restaurant manager and shown to ones table. First class. Having had afternoon tea at the Ritz, I always take the Ritz as the one to beat. Moat House is equally as good in both the standard of food and service. Only the name dropping of the Ritz gives it boasting rights. The atmosphere at the Moat House makes one feel special. I can't fault it. My message to all of the staff Keep up your high standard

We came for Dinner last night to celebrate a birthday, and had a voucher for the Steak night from my husbands birthday. On arrival we were greeted and taken to our table and given a menu. We then waited for someone to come and take a drinks order, and sadly 20 minutes later no one had come back to us, even though some staff appeared to have nothing to do? Eventually I had to call a waitress over who sent one of the waiters over to take our order who seemed a bit inexperienced, but he took our drinks and meal order. The wine arrived and our drinks, but we had asked for a jug of water too which we had to ask for twice. The restaurant was busy, and there was also a wedding party in the other room. We had the breads, and then our steaks arrived after about 30 mins, and the prawn skewer I had ordered as one of our sides was inedible as it was tasted of pepper.. I queried this with the waiter and he went to the kitchen then came back to say its the marinade they are in. I asked if I could have any prawns without the pepper, but he said I couldn't, which was understandable and walked away with the prawns! What really annoyed my was that he did not apologise or try to offer an alternative and he obviously is in the wrong job, as had no people skills. My own experience of customer service skills, is sadly what is lacking at the moat house in the Orangery Restaurant, and from listening from other customers and the general overall lack of good customer service I feel that to have such a lovely place, it really needs to get some experienced staff to complete overall experience of coming for a special meal.

We have avoided this restaurant for a good many years due to poor food and service in the past but we thought it was time to give it another try as the reviews were mainly very favourable.

It was a real treat to visit The Orangery at The Moat House for our anniversary. We thoroughly enjoy the Saturday gourmet night for a special occasion and last night certainly didn’t disappoint. The food was sublime as always and the atmosphere wonderfully relaxed and welcoming. My husband had the haddock starter which looked divine, followed by the ever popular steak main. I had the radichio dish as a main. All of the dishes were immaculately presented and bursting with gorgeous flavours. My husband had the chocolate sphere for dessert-it was wonderful to watch as our waiter poured over the warm smoked sea salt caramel sauce to make the sphere collapse. I was too full to have a dessert myself but had a couple of spoonfuls of my husband’s dessert which was heavenly! We ended with tea, coffee and petit fours which again were extremely tasty. Earlier on in the meal we’d had some wonderful nibbles to start which included olives and lime & chilli popcorn followed by bread, and after the starter a fantastic little lemon & raspberry sorbet as our pallet cleanser. All in all it was a truly fantastic evening. We have tried Michelin restaurants in the past but this restaurant is our favourite by far. It never ceases to provide the perfect balance between sumptuous food and a perfect relaxing atmosphere. Thank you to everyone at the Orangery for yet another superb evening.

We stayed at the hotel for the weekend and ate here Friday night. Lovely food at great value (about 30 quid for 3 courses) but let down by lack of ambience (and it was cold!) and service that did not li e up to the chefs high standards. The head waiter never cracked a smile and the rest seem to take a lead from him. Such a wasted opportunity given the livy location right by the canal.

This really is the best restaurant in the local area, especially for fine dining. There are a number of different menu’s to suit everyone’s palate/ budget. The fine dining menu’s are superb and brilliantly executed, with top ingredients used and excellent textures. For me this restaurant should have more recognition than it does because it really is an fantastic dining experience!

Although we have dined at the Moat House in the restaurant many times over the years, we had not visited on Steak Night. We have really missed out. The staff are well trained and very polite, the food is superb as ever and we could not have eaten more! Amazing value for money with the two of us dining and a bottle of nice wine for well under £35! We will not be leaving it too long before we return. Thanks for a lovely evening!

The highlight of our stay at the Moat House was our evening meal at the extremely high quality restaurant. We were dining on a Saturday night, so had the gourmet fixed price menu. The food was exceptional - delicious, interesting flavours, beautifully presented. The service was first class. We had a wonderful evening. The hotel itself was comfortable and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location, just off the M6, with lots of free parking, made this stay convenient as well as lovely!

The food we ate at this restaurant was absolutely beautiful. We ate from the set menu, which represented good value. The chicken main course was excellent, and all dishes were beautifully presented.

This was a lovely afternoon tea party for my mother's 87th birthday. Lots of scrumptious sandwiches and cakes, with an endless supply of tea and coffee. There was so much that we brought some home. Even the leftovers were well presented in a plastic box, encased in foil which was then shaped to look like a swan. Good value and very friendly staff ensured that we will be back again.

I was treated to Afternoon Tea at The Moat House as part of my birthday celebrations ... there were 4 of us and we all agree it was the best we’ve had in the area !! The presentation and explanation of all the teas on offer (explained at the table by individual waiters) was wonderful and the quality, quantity and service of our food was exceptional. The location is excellent too, it was a cloudy but warm day so we were able to sit outside by the lake after our tea with a bottle of bubbly to round-off a fabulous afternoon.

We had Afternoon tea. Good selection of cakes and sandwiches, displayed lovely. The staff were friendly and professional. There is a wonderful atmosphere in the restaurant were the afternoon tea is served. The views from the restaurant windows is peaceful and charming, overlooking the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal at the time of our visit many boats passed by. The wildlife on the canal was entertaining. The grounds of the hotel are lovely. .It's location is only about two miles from the M6 It is a great location for a wedding or special event. I think one of the best.

A variety of taster menus plus al la carte: spoilt for choice. Service is top notch and friendly but discreet. We shared the Gin cured salmon, lamb cutlets, kofta with aubergine so tender and tasty. Sea trout with fennel and capers and horseradish dressing made for delicious mains. The cheese platter was also yummy with large serves of cheese. The only small thing was the wine we wanted was not available and a few pesky flies buzzed us. All in all highly recommend

We moored up outside to celebrate our anniversary having never eaten there before. Fantastic. The restaurant is excellent and then they went the extra mile with service and treats. Thank you so much for making it so special. Interestingly the pub side is equally good with sensible prices and well executed pub food. Truly something for everyone.

Enjoyed the taster menu. Staff were very accommodating and willing to swap one course out as my girlfriend didn't like it. I also had the wine pairing, which was good, but not sure they were paired perfectly. All the same a very tasty meal.

Our first visit & what a lovely, warm & friendly welcome 😬 A cosy local with heated & covered courtyard area. We all had delicious crusty-filled rolls, chips & pork pie 😋😋 Rest of the menu & theme nights look great too, just wish we lived closer & it was our local !! Betsy, Bert & Toby ( the dogs) loved the treats too. Thanks for your hospitality, nothing was too much trouble & see you again soon.
