service was good but the quality of the food has dropped The Haggis and Black pudding tower was cooked inconsitantly , their Fillet of beef Diane was not fillet and the beef was in big chunks and not strips like it should be . their mixed seafood crepe was swimming in cheese the Spiced Chicken & Chorizo Penne Pasta appered to have processed chiken in it and the penne wasnt authentic penne pasta Not worth the money , if you want to pay Glasgow prices then go to Glasgow

I was here as part of the Walker lunch booking on April 17th. Just to say the young members of staff who looked after our table were a credit to your hotel. Always smiling. Excellent service. And the meal was just perfect. Credit to your kitchen team. I’ve worked in a front of house post in hotels since 1981. So I think I’m able to give praise where praise is due. Thank you.

Shocking Service! Waited 25 minutes to have our dinner plates removed, we were asked if we wanted a dessert menu and more drinks, we said yes! Still waiting! We gave the waitress 20 minutes and finally gave up , now home and very disgruntled that I didn’t get my dessert, will be a while before we’re back.

We booked the back from for a private family celebration last night for just over 30 people. This has been booked for around 2 months. The room was booked at 7pm. The 2 waiters that were allocated to our room were slow and unorganised. It was taking 30 minutes for the drinks to be brought in and when they were they didn’t know which of the 3 tables they were for, this lead to us complaining for the first time. Now onto the dinner service, keeping in mind we were given a set menu with a few choices for each course this would lead you to believe the food would be semi organised. The starters came out at 9.15pm 2 hours and 15 minutes after we arrived, everyone was starving. The main and desert weren’t to long after but having to wait the length of time for our starter is shocking. Family members with kids left before they could have desert are the kids were tired. When we complained we were told they were short staffed and the restaurant had to take priority - again I thought this was a disgusting comment. We were trying to have a celebration that had been booked 2 months in advance, surely we would be given the same service as the restaurant. The food was fantastic when it finally came but I doubt you will be seeing any of us again.

Came here as we had a Black Friday voucher to use. We ordered (soft) drinks as soon as we sat down but we waited about 15 minutes before they arrived. Once they arrived, we waited another 10 minutes to order our food. We didn't too long in between our starter and mains, but nobody came to check if our meal was alright, or if we needed another drink. We asked for the dessert menu and again, had to wait about 15 minutes on someone bringing this over. There was also a different person serving us each time rather than having one person assigned to a particular section of the restaurant. The food itself was delicious - although more pieces of toast for two large piece of chicken liver parfois would be ideal. Portion sizes were enough and the restaurant itself has a nice ambience.

Afternoon tea was very disappointing. 6 finger sandwiches for 2 people with 4 miniscule quiche with hardly any filling in them was underwhelming to say the least. And the sandwiches were hard at the edges. Cakes were OK but scones were also a bit hard.

Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon at Opal restaurant with friends celebrating a special birthday. Position of table, staff, service, food were all great. We were also allowed to stay longer at the table as next group had cancelled. I hadn't been for ages and was impressed with service and food.

My first time visiting the Opal restaurant at fhe Radstone near Newmains Firstly the setting and decor is beautifully done and makes for a calm environment when dining alone Unfortunately for me the food and the service when dining at the restaurant didn't live up to its setting..here are the highlights: Chicken pakora special starter was meant to be with chilli jam came with a bland chilli mayonnaise ..asked a young waiter to confirm if it was chilli jam and had no feedback..if its jam I want jam and if its chilli I want chilli Sat for 10mins without a drink nobody asked me of I wanted another...in a restaurant I'd expect table service for drinks and I wasn't told to order my drinks from the bar. Chips came luke warm with fish but they were changed for pipping hot ones and the same fish I'd originally been served After "complaining" staff became more attentive to me and diners in close proximity to me 30th bday party seemed to get a lot of attention..don't all customers deserve the same level of attention? Food flavour 4/5 Waiting staff 2.5/5 Attention to detail 2/5 Overall posh setting but service doesn't match it

Visited here a lot with friends and it used to be good but last few times a real let down. Last night 3 friends and I visited for a meal on a a Monday night. Restaurant not busy but service was so terrible we have decided to never go back. This is such a shame as the food was all delicious. We waited 15 mins to eventually get someone to take a drink order. Another 20 mins went by and my friend went to the bar to ask about the drink order. The drinks arrived, 3 bottles of coke, not exactly a hard order to make! Ordered food as did not let the girl who brought the drinks leave until she had taken the food order. When the food arrived it was all delicious. We had ordered starters and mains. No one came to check if everything was ok or offered another drink order. We would have liked desserts and another drink but just could not get hold of anyone to serve us. I went and asked for the bill as again no one came near us. If I was one of the kitchen staff I would be really angry that the front of house service was giving this place such bad reviews. I said the food was lovely but the service spoilt the night. Last time we were here the service was not good but decided to give it another try to then experience an even worse service experience. We have decided to vote with our feet and not return. I have also advised a friend who was thinking of having her wedding here to give it a miss. I would not recommend anyone book here especially for a Special occasion as the atrociously bad service may ruin your event.

We booked the Opal restaurant for a family celebration. I just don’t know why the Radstone can not get their restaurant right. We were seated at our table on time then after 30 minutes my husband Wendy to ask if someone could at least take a drinks order. It was 50minutes before our food order was taken. The starters arrived and were all nice, however the main courses were not good. My beef Fillet Diane was weird and looked more like a masala (bright orange) and did not taste as it should, the garlic bread that accompanied dishes was either not cooked or burnt to a crisp, the burger was mushy and the seafood crepe was a seafood tortilla wrap - nowhere near a crepe. We did speak to the manger who was really good however this was a special celebration and the chef seems unable to produce good tasting food. This is not a new issue with the Opal restaurant where meals are so hit and Miss. a shame as it should be good…. But it isn’t.

Busy Sunday evening and initial contact was good. Unfortunately atmosphere was spoilt with a table next to us being allowed to let their child watch tv on a phone which did not blend with background music. Starter was ok, have had previously and not as good as before, tempura vegetables, couple of huge pieces of onion and a couple of bits of courgette. Steak pie was disappointing. Pastry was obviously made a few days prior as was dry and fell apart as soon as a knife went through it, mash wasn’t great either. Spent just over £100 and really was disappointed with what we got.

Horrible experience start to finish. On entering the hotel the double glass doors were covered in greasy fingerprints and it looked like they had been there a while. The chairs were tired and grubby and there was a general lack of cleaning all around ie lots of tables laden with dirty dishes. We ordered loaded nachos which consisted of a small portion of basic chips with a tiny sprinkling of sliced cooked ham cut into squares with a handful of melted cheddar on top, nasty. My main was vegetable tempura which was a red onion cut into quarters, a pepper and a courgette cut into large rounds. The vegetables were raw and the tempura batter was definitely not tempura, it was heavy and lumpy. I was given a burger instead but it was pretty poor. My sister's chicken burger was burnt brown and just horrible. The only saving grace was the lovely staff, but I felt so sorry for our male server as he apologised over and over. We were not charged for the "tempua" but it was one of the most disappointing meals I've ever had. I've eaten at other Rad group restaurants and the food has been gorgeous but I'll not be back to this place.

We visited the Opal restaurant in Radstones, Larkhall on 5th July. I had the soup which was tomato & lentil mix at £5.50, followed by the Traditional Steak Pie at £14.50. My wife had the Oven Baked Beef Lasagne at £13.95. The soup was piping hot but I found it had very little taste. Hoping things would get better when my steak pie arrived but was not great, the steak tasted quite bland & I had to scraped the pieces of steak off the top of the mashed potato which for some reason was buried under the steak? There was also a random skinned potato on the plate, which was strange, I did find the baby carrots quite tasty though. My wife had the Lasagne which was really just a bowl of floppy pasta with some mince at the bottom in a "carbonara?" sauce which she said also tasted a bit bland. I do like my steak pie & have had have some great tasting ones in many places, however, this was not one of them. The restaurant was busy for start of midweek but certainly not full by any means. Sorry Opal but I have had better food in local "pubs" at much less cost. (Radstone Opal : Steak Pie Rating: 5 out of 10). ps. I had posted a review on the Radstones Hotel page first by accident as it is not exactly clear at first Radstones had a different "Opal Restaurant" page for some reason.

Food is brilliant, the prawn tempura is stunning, so is the the coconut enfused chicken curry with the fresh peas shoots. My only issue is the drinks. A wine and small diet draft coke is 9.80.... ooch. Staff are friendly and when they see you great but you do need to grab their attention. If you are a smoker there are areas to sit outside but no heaters so it can be cold

Visited here for the 1st time for lunch during the week and was surprised to see how busy it was given it was a weekday. Staff were friendly and service was good. The restaurant looks nice and was very clean, inuding the toilets (although 1 fault was the lock doesn't work on the disabled toilet door) The food was delicious, we both enjoyed our meals and it was reasonably priced too. We would definitely return again

Good ambience. But - Both drinks order and food order were taken incorrectly. - Staff didn't know their dishes so tried to give us the wrong plates - this could have been serious if there had been allergies or vegetarian handed a meat dish. - I wouldn't rate the food as any better than pub quality.

We reserved a table for 8 and made aware this would be a business meeting so needed to be out of way. However being greeted and seated to our table we stood like goose berries for what felt like ages. Perfect and accommodating. However was a diner quote close so some things we could not discuss as he was within ear shot. Would of been nice if they advised if WiFi facility available again as they knew we were having a business meeting. ordering drinks, ordering food was not existent. I ended up standing up and asking the waitress to take our order. Felt like all I did was ask staff to take orders but be prepared for. Very long wait for drinks .The food was hot and very tasty! We ordered 2 cocktails and 2 mock tails again shouting over the waitress to take order. Unfortunately when guests entered the doors had been left open and the smell from local fields filled our lungs no effort from staff to close the door but we asked our kids to shut the door. The food/drinks were very reasonable however services from staff needs improving

Been here serval times and it is always nice. It is a bit out of the way but worth a visit. I met 2 friends for dinner and we all enjoyed it. Menu is great, fab selection. My friend always orders the haggis and black pudding g tower when we go here. He said he had been dreaming about it! I had the scallops with black pudding and chorizo also delicious. A selection of burgers were ordered and a stir fry. We had 2 desserts and 3 coffees. Everything was so tasty. Service was friendly and quick. Perfect evening.

Visited today for lunch . Had the fish and chips which was crispy beautiful white fish with peas and chips plus tartar sauce . It was served without fuss and the service was just the right level of attention . We both had a dessert which was very enjoyable. This place just gets better . Well done

What a great afternoon tea with my family. Food delicious and plentiful , more than enough to take home the extras!! Staff provided just the right level of service and were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The tea cup filled with lentil and bacon soup was a lovely touch. We will definitely be back and also recommend to friends and family. Well done to all the staff , what a beautiful place to relax and enjoy lovely food.

Two of us were in the Opal Restaurant for lunch today. We each had a three course meal and every course was excellent. The service from waiting staff was also very attentive. Social distancing was in place and all staff wore masks. All diners wore...

The restaurant is very much open and popular. The service is fantastic and I have had one of the best meals in a very long time.

The best fillet steak for years. Service is quick and the restaurant is very busy. Travelled up for business all week and already I have found where I want to stay for food.

1st night here for a meal out. Looks beautiful from the outside and it is in a Nice area for views. The meal was really poor quality and didn't taste great. The service was okay but there did appear to be lack of supervsion and...

The menu is looking very dated and food choices are limited, don't know if you've shortened your menu during covid but very few choices. Food wasn't anything special, the Stewed Ribeye was as dry as a camel's hoof, Thai Red curry lacked any flavour at...

Prices were slightly pricey for portion size, also was no lunch menu

My dining friend as very late and got lost due to the local road works. I had to leave the restaurant to go and find her. The hotel held the table for us until I got back. That was greatly appreciated.

A very enjoyable lunch with my wife, celebrating her birthday. The restaurant has been re arranged and it felt very safe, the staff were all very delightful, especially the young man who served us, he was very relaxed and it made our first outing since lockdown an enjoyable event.

Steak pie was very dry no gravy,creamed potatoes were also very dry not creamy and tasteless,crispy edges felt it was reheated,breakfast scrambled egg was a solid tasteless lump that was black through the middle.Staff were very polite and wore face covering

Evening meal wasn’t the best, I ordered steak pie and creamed potato, steak was very dry no gravy, potatoes were dry and tasteless not at all creamy edges were hard like it had been microwaved.We were residents so had breakfast, I ordered scrambled egg, it was more like an omelette, thick solid and tasteless, I could stand my fork up in it, scrambled egg should be light and fluffy also was black through the middle was not pleasant to eat.

Dinner was excellent, can't wait to return.

We received a very warm welcome and the lady who showed us to our table and took our order was lovely. Food was very prompt and felt safe at all times while in the restaurant. Only downpoint was when it came to paying, the staff were very attentive right up to this point in the night, then we couldn't get anyone attention for the bill. When we finally did get the bill it was a good 15 mins before we could get someones attention to get the card machine to pay. I totally understand there is less staff on, and if everyone was busy serving I would totally understand this length of wait but the girls were just standing around talking. So you can understand the frustration. At that time of night I get they were probably tired and ready to go home but while there's tables in they should still be getting the same service as we received at the start of the night. Everything else was great and I would still recommend

When visiting it was eat out to help out but I felt my food reflected that. King Scallops were 3 small dry tasteless scallops sitting on cold dry pea purée and rock hard black pudding crumb which was all hiding under a handful of dry rocket.🤮very poor. My mains was tasty but again the slow braised rib eye was very thin cut and the haggis on top was even thinner so I feel this was entirely due to the 50% off offer. My husband had no complaint as he ordered the 6oz fillet steak so it was 6oz and very tasty.I am a regular visitor for cake & coffee which I always enjoy and some small dish foods for my daughter and have no complaints, always recommend to friends and family but feel the offer eat out to help out definitely had an effect on my meal. I would like to add no one asked if I actually enjoyed my food and the bill did not have the discount on it so I was embarrassed asking to have it amended. I was served with waiters that I am not familiar with as the regular staff are very friendly and accommodating and always make us feel welcomed.

Had a great time, rice arrived hard for the main meal but it was very very quickly replaced. Very happy with the service and the meal. The staff were all very attentive for covid saftey measures and it felt like a nice safe place to have a meal. Will for sure come back again. Thanks for a great first date night after lockdown!

Great first dinner out after lockdown!

Lovely food however surprisingly poor choice of beers and ciders on draught. Nice atmosphere even during covid and felt that the booth we were in was quite private which was lovely. Great service and staff very attentive and polite.

The starters we ordered were lovely and no complaints at all, tasty, reasonable portion size and priced well. The main courses were nice, i had the steak pie, which again was lovely. My partner ordered the beef in Diane sauce, it arrived and was rather underwhelming. 5 very small (2cm) pieces of rather chewy beef, which was nothing like we expected. The Diane sauce was tasty but not without enough beef. The rice portion was just an adequate size, presented quite well on the plate. We were lucky to have had this meal under the government scheme of 50% off otherwise I would have been extremely disappointed by the portions and lack of food. In a final note, we were served the food by a delightful young male waiter, who couldn't have attended to us any better. He abided by all the current PPE guidance and we felt safe. The end of the meal, a blond female waitress attended, wearing her face mask under her chin, which we had noted through out the evening. I sat away from her but she proceeded to lean in closer. This totally spoilt the night, as an NHS member of staff, i know how unacceptable flouting the rules of PPE are, and my partner is a shielding member of the community, starting to adjust to normality. This has totally put us off venturing out again in the near future.

We are regulars at the Opal and hold loyalty cards as is the friends we were with on our Saturday evening booking however I received a telephone call early Sunday morning to advise that we had been overcharged. Having advised our friends paid the bill I gave their number for your staff member to call and resolve the situation, Given that he was overcharged £1000 on his card I am somewhat appalled that no gesture of goodwill was offered not even a small voucher a token gesture possibly a round of drinks or a desert credit just something to apologise, given we all spend a lot of money in your establishment. My personal thoughts are it was rude to just assume overcharging someone that volume of money was okay without any offer of genuine apology.

I ordered the chicken breast and it was so tough and chewy. I had better food from the Opal restaurant before, please do not let the standards go down.

We had an amazing night at the Radstone on Saturday night 8/8 for my partners Birthday. The staff we very attentive and service fantastic. The food was utterly delicious , we even enjoyed their singing .... We would highly recommend and will certainly return

Would have thought with having to still wear masks that the hotel would have advised to wear masks while moving about the hotel and getting up to go to the toilet.(As in other hotels) Other than that we had a great meal and day out, that we have booked again. Would recommend

Poor service, food quality inferior, Covid safety and cleaning almost non existent and staff appear to be poorly trained. All in all very poor and could not recommend to friends.

Service slightly slow between main course and sweet course. Nevertheless waitress did apologise on serving the sweet.

I attended the Opal Resturant for the first time since lockdown ended and enquired as to their social distancing procedures as I’d just spent 5 months shielding. I’m pleased to say, the staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and at ease placing me in a very isolated spot enabling me to have a wonderful relaxed meal with the most fabulous food from their a la carte menu. Thank you Radstone for going above and beyond !

Excellent service and good value

Although menu was smaller than usual, there was still plenty of choice. Service was excellent, even though there wasn't the usual staff . Nice setting.

It was a very nice meal, staff were pleasant & nothing was a bother. All staff wore their Face Masks & the restaurant was spotless. Will dine again soon.

We decided to go on the government deal mon-wed. Portions were smaller than usual and felt the prices had been inflated too. Waited a long time between courses and felt the food wasn't as high a standard as usual. No one asked for our details for track and trace but not sure if it's because I booked online? We were the only 2 customers that wore a mask to and from our table. Only staff had masks on. No signs stating to wear a mask and no hand sanitizer to use upon entering the building. Didn't seem to be much in the way of social distancing.

We had a really good meal here on Tuesday evening and I would recommend this venue to anyone thinking of going here - never had a bad meal in it

Service was great, food looked and tasted lovely but it could have been just a little warmer.

Asked for pudding piping hot but it was luke warm. Everything else was perfect.

Lunch was amazing, definitely value for money.

The service was very slow. It was reasonably busy but there were multiple people who came in after us who’s food arrived long before ours. Took nearly 40 minutes for our food order to be taken and our food arrived 1 hour 30 mins after we arrived. We reluctantly ordered desserts after being told there were no other dessert orders in the kitchen so they would come quickly, which they didn’t. I had ordered the sundae for dessert which was supposed to have tablet and shortbread in it, it didn’t seem to have anything in it apart from a berry coulis and cream/ice cream which was disappointing. Hoping this was just a one of bad day at the radstone as have been many times and my sister even got married here. We felt like our table had just been forgotten about in all honesty as other around us seemed to be getting very good and quick service.

It is s great local venue, though food needed heated up again, (including scallops!)never received coffee ordered. Staff were lovely

I was very apprehensive about eating out for the first time since lockdown. Your staff were amazing. The safety procedures in place made me feel very safe. The food, as always, was excellent. We always loved coming here and will be back soon.

As a regular customer I was disappointed that the service and time taken for food to arrive wasn’t up to the usual standard. Think this was probably due to the offer and the restaurant seemed to have more customers than they could handle. Not sure that much social distancing was being observed.

Only mark down on food was for the Thai Red Curry with Chicken, where the chicken had been fired and added onto the meal, rather than the chicken cooked with the sauce leaving the chicken rather dry and lacking flavour. A little disappointing and wont order in future.

Had a lovely meal in beautiful surroundings. I felt perfectly safe despite the expected restrictions. Restaurant is handling the covid situation perfectly. Looking forward to returning

Great food even although at thus time they have a limited menu, excellent service front the staff who are friendly and attentive. Good measures in place for social distancing and to deal with the current pandemic. A clean and safe environment.

The staff were very professional and restaurant very clean they have done brilliant Job through these hard times and meals were all lovely and you were not rushed to finish great experience from start to finish

We decided to come for dinner as we had to pay money towards our wedding. We were not disappointed by the service we received from the staff in the restaurant. The food was amazing and we were not waiting long to be served I will definitely be having dinner here more often

Really enjoyable meal during these strange times we are living in

Even with the current Covid 19 environment the hotel provided a high quality of service making for an enjoyable stay and giving confidence as a guest in the hotel and staffs approach to the virus.

We enjoyed our ‘should be wedding day’ meal here as we were supposed to get married at the radstone that day, and it was delicious. Meal was hot, very very tasty, and absolutely excellent service. Will definitely be back for more steak pie, it’s to die for
