Absolutely appalling experience. We came here for the first time with high hopes after a nice walk along the canal, it’s a local pub and we wanted to support it but we left hungry, frustrated, and completely disappointed. We ordered just two mains and were left waiting outside for over an hour and a half with no updates. We politely tried to ask the staff member who was delivering other food for an update and were blatantly ignored. Eventually had to go inside to chase it up ourselves, only to be told it would be another 25 minutes. Nearly a 2-hour wait for two meals? That’s completely unacceptable. What made it worse was the complete lack of apology or empathy from staff. No explanation, no goodwill gesture, no basic courtesy, just a shrug and a “wait longer.” We were left hungry and rightly annoyed. A real shame, as we were genuinely excited to try the place and support a local business. But after this experience, we’ll be telling friends and neighbours to steer clear. The service was indifferent at best, and utterly rude at worst. Avoid and bring a packed lunch for after the walk instead.

The food looked and smelt delicious, but after a 90+ minute wait with no food and poor service, we left hungry, frustrated and feeling unwelcome. After recently moving to the area, we were looking forward to trying the Onslow Arms. We ordered two mains and waited patiently, even as tables that arrived well after us were served. After over an hours wait and asking multiple times on the status of our order, we were finally told it would be another 25 minutes wait – nearly two hours in total. At no point were we warned about delays, and no explanation was given. Other tables who had ordered the same menu items over 45 minutes after us were already eating, and staff offered little in the way of updates or empathy. It was clear we weren’t the only ones having issues, with a growing group of us around the bar in a similar situation. What stood out most was the sheer indifference. The only explanation offered was that it was busy, with no reference to the inconsistent wait times. Staff seemed surprised when they realised how long we’d been waiting, yet showed no real sympathy and made no effort to make things right. Communication was minimal (repeatedly having to chase for updates and answers) and any sense of responsibility or care was completely lacking. Yes, it was a bank holiday, but poor communication and indifference from staff are harder to forgive than a busy kitchen. We’d hoped to bring some friends and family here, but given this experience we shan’t be back and certainly won’t be recommending…

Lovely setting, ate overlooking the canal. We were a group of 5. Two caesar salads were nice but 3 of us were very disappointed with the food. Not sure that any of it was smoked, the beef chewy and not sure where the jerk seasoning went. The service was very good. Sadly won't be back

As the only pub in Loxwood, with a traditional 'pub' feel, including open fire, family and pet friendly, an enormous 'plus' is the restaurant which specializes in 'smokehouse' meats. This was our second visit to the Onslow since its rebranding and the quality of the fare and experience as a whole was consistent. This has now become our 'go to' pub/restaurant of choice. Long may they continue.

Beautiful setting, staff attentive despite being busy. We were surprised at the food choices on the menu as there was a lack of the regular choices BUT a large variety of burgers. Sadly, we weren't given the lunch menu that can be seen on their website. We ordered starters and mains and although the food was well cooked and tasty, they put their saucy cow burger mayonnaise on the dishes. Whilst I'm not averse to the sauce it has a strong, smokey flavour which I considered overpowered the many lovely flavours. Whilst we felt looked after and all questions answered by the waiting staff, we would return for the scenery but not the food.

Had driven past this pub many times and thought must drop in. Today drove to it for lunch. Great location right next to the canal. Good selection of Badgers Beers. Very friendly bar staff. The beer garden is fantastic right along side the canal. We both ordered a light snack lunch. My wife ordered mackerel pate, dill pickels & toasted Baguette, £8. I had Ciabatta Sandwich , Prawn Morie rose and lettuce £10. My wifes arrived with I think a ciabatta cut in half with a thin layer of pate already spread on it. Whatever the bread was it was not toasted. Mine was the same type of bread with, being generous, a quarter of an inch of the smallest prawns I have ever seen. Such a shame. No staff came to ask how it was which is usually done today. If you just want a drink in a lovely location with great beers and fab. staff, this is a real find, but unless we were unlucky, don't bother with the food.

Customer service at its lowest. Ordered a burger yesterday, took it back to be well done. I’m only assuming he’s manager but his customer service and politeness was shocking, started arguing with me and my partner as to why it was pink in the middle. Came out to show me that burger isn’t not cooked. Proceeded to touch the food with his hands which I asked for a new one. Brought a new one out and made me cut it infront of him to prove it’s the ‘quality of the burger’. He was not listening to us one bit. Very rude and quite condescending. We entered the pub on a Friday night to a quiet atmosphere. Upon our approach to the bar our group of 3 were discussing what drinks we would buy. 2 out of the 3 in our group decided not to buy anything at this time. The member of staff on the bar then interjected in our conversation, claiming if we weren’t (as individuals) buying a drink, we would have to leave. I attempted to reason: but surely if my brother is buying a drink, it’s fine for us to be here as his company? The Bell Inn employee made her point: in no business are you able to sit without making a purchase. I retorted- a cafe? This was in vain, her condescension broke through our reason. Destitute and demoralised we exited the bar. We promptly took our business to the pub up the road. The Bell Inn is my local, and I will not be drinking there again.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Attempted to visit this pub for food after seeing the menu online and a food hygiene review in the window. Greeted by a bunch of farmers inside asking what we want, we said we were just waiting to see if food was being served. He said ‘nah no food at all here’ and the bar maid said ‘nope just crisps and nuts’ with an attitude, the other customers laughed us out the door. Very unfriendly, unprofessional and quite frankly rude behaviour from both staff and customers. Do not recommend at all.
