The White Horse of Eastbourne's menu shines with its array of delectable offerings, especially the chocolate brownie. This dessert is a symphony of textures and flavours, with a warm, molten centre encased in a delicate crust, accompanied by a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. Each bite is a harmonious blend of the rich chocolate and the cool, sweet ice cream, creating a dessert experience that is both comforting and indulgent. It's clear that The White Horse of Eastbourne takes pride in their desserts, presenting them not just as a final course, but as a highlight of their culinary expertise.

Beautiful on the outside, in a very pretty village, but the inside is more All Bar One than charming pub. Modern and characterless with bright lighting and functional modern furniture. Didn’t eat and maybe the food is very good but the lack of atmosphere wouldn’t inspire us to return. Greene King has a long record of spoiling historic pubs and unfortunately this isn’t an exception.

Have had Sunday lunch twice here in the last couple of months and both times the food was superb. There was a group of us the first time and I think we all had something different. The table went silent as everyone concentrated on eating! The Lamb Shank was so tender it fell off the bone. All the roasts came with well cooked vegetables and crispy roast potatoes. Second time round I tried the Steak and Ale Pie. I was expecting flakey pastry and an oven proof dish that you can never get the pie out of - it was nothing like that!!! Instead the beef was encased in thin pastry on top of a bed of mashed potato. Full of flavour. Absolutely delicious. The pub was busy. Lots of locals. The service efficient and attentive. I believe the pub is under new management and they seem to have got it right by keeping it a proper pub with good food rather than turning it in to yet another gastro pub.

WE had eaten here with friends a couple of months ago, felt it great value, and had enjoyed it. So back with the same friends for a two-day early Christmas Lunch ..... BIG MISTAKE .... menu very much the same but quality of food very poor, large helpings smothered in thick brown gravy, single vegetable with sausage and mash (?mash so creamed it must have come from a packet?) and "cottage pie pie" = pastry casing round minced beef) Enough said about main course, desserts (3x"cheesecake" - no resemblance in taste to modern or trad cheesecakes, thick chocolate toppings etc - 1 x 2 scoops vanilla ice cream, came with lots of ice inside and definitely not smooth). SO BEWARE - Prices have risen dramatically since our previous visit - our food with small drinks cost over £100. One of our company wonders whether this place intends being a pub/boozer or a gastropub.

As soon as we walked in we were welcomed by bar staff. A great choice of beers and 2 of my favourite lagers on sale. Everything was explained, how to order food etc. We sat in the garden, and what a great place to be. Even an outside bar for their busy entertainment evenings. Seating for probably around 100 outside. But the best highlight was the food. Just a simple sandwich, Brie, bacon and caramelised red onion on toasted bread. It was brilliant! With chips and cole slaw. Here I am 3 hours later, still filled up. I would love to visit again, but I'm not local, about an hour or so away. But if ever I'm nearby I will call in again I truly recommend you try it. Perfect drink, perfect food and perfect service from perfect staff. One more thing...I don't do reviews...but this place deserves it.

Lovely summers evening so popped in for a drink and ended up staying longer so ordered a pizza. Pub run out of ice and cold wine (rose). The staff were obviously stressed. Pretty bar girl but she couldn't even manage a smile - think the staff need the ice to help them chill a bit. However still a lovely pub but next time a hot day is forecast, stock your fridges and pop down to Tesco for more ice.

We have been coming here for a few years because the pizzas are quite nice but unfortunately the last experience was not good. We all had tummy upsets that night and I was very sick with stomach cramps. Of course we can not prove that the cause originated at the pub but we just read the negative report from the food hygiene agency and suspect that this is more than coincidence. We have also found the staff can be quite confrontational if we try to complain. We will probably give it one more try in the future but this will be last chance saloon as far as we are concerned.

Terrible pizza and service. The pizza was burned. I had to ask several times to get a jug of water and some ketchup. The bottle of ketchup came almost empty and I asked for some more ketchup and I was told to wipe the table and someone bring it to me. That never happened. I will never go and eat a pizza there again or any other food. That was on a Saturday afternoon lunch time. The pub wasn't even busy at the time. Also, I did not understand the idea of putting on one or two slices of pizza only one ingredient, like olives or like ham.

We revisited the White Horse in Easebourne on Wednesday after a few years, and even though our lunch was very pleasant unfortunately there was a couple of things we were put out about. The first, was the fact that the chicken burger was unavailable owing to no chicken, which I was going to order. And secondly, when our meal was finished I wanted to end it by having a nice cup of coffee. But alas NO COFFEE, only decaffeinated, which I don't like so alas I had to go without. You would have thought that a nice pub like that would make sure that they had a good supply of both the chicken and the coffee.

The factory made lightly flavoured shaving foam type. The coffee was weak and tasteless. Service was OK but slow we think because of the kitchen. The servers were fine. The cheesecake we complained about and the pub did not ask us to pay. That bad then. Great building and position but completely spoiled by the mediocre mains and horrible sweet and poor coffee. Here you can expect to find fantastic food cooked by an Italian family who know more about good food than all of West Sussex combined; their wood fired pizza oven adds even more character to the food. Couldn’t recommend more. The staff are well clued up, accommodating and friendly. We were fortunate enough to be served by Ollie and Izzy and they made our evening very pleasant. Drink selection is vast and tasty. Weather ale, larger or gin drinker there is something for everyone here. Read the reviews about the amazing food and booked a table for dinner - glad we did, the food was awesome. There was a fascinating 50:50 mix of people here. Half were people like us - on a break in the heart of the South Downs and looking for some excellent food in the area. Tables reserved, dressed for a nice dinner, clear expectations of eating at a quality country pub. The other half were local tradies in for a few pints after work. They loudly ‘effed and jeffed’ throwing round all of the sexist and homophobic bants you’d expect from the lads sinking a few after a day’s work. Genuinely amazing food. Staff were lovely. Fascinating mix of clientele.

Two words ‘boar tagliatelle’! The new menu at the White Horse is just a bit different from what you might expect from pub food. It has been meticulously drawn up with a leaning towards Italian style cooking and the freshly made pasta really is absolutely heaven. The choices are broad in terms of variety but not overwhelming. What I really think is going to be unique is that the White Horse is now an ‘everyone welcome’ local boozer with an excellent menu, something missing in this area until now.

This is where is all went downhill...Starters arrived 30 mins after order taken . Husband had soup which was cold, not lukewarm cold ! Sent back and had it reheated. Then we waited 40 minutes for our main course. Bear in mind I said the pub was quiet ..My steak arrived RAW , was meant to be sirloin but never seen one that looked like this even waitress said she could not believe how it had been sent out. I sent it back and told them not to bother didn't feel hungry anymore. Husband had fish and chips which was okay. I do not normally write reviews but was so annoyed at the service and food we received. This pub needs to really think hard about wether it wants to stay in business and be supported by locals. Drinks service was good, seated quickly friendly and amicable host. Was told the kitchen was closed untill 6 (we arrived at 5:15) no problem, will have a drink initially and they would be over to take our order. At half 6 I went to the bar to order. Not busy, but easy to forget - no worries. Ordered two 10oz steaks, one blue, one medium, with peppercorn sauce. The steaks came, smaller than the grilled tomatoes and overcooked. Both at least medium. The peppercorn sauce we had to ask twice about before it was brought out. Chips were deep fried, without blanching and therfore crispy and bland. We discussed complaining/ sending it back yet decided against it - very local pub, almost out of the league of gentlemen, were concerned as to the response we would have got! The main aggravation is the cost, at £19 a steak this was a wetherspoons quality meal at michellin star prices.

Good selection of beer but music far too loud.

This is a good option for dinner with variety and choice. Great salad bar as well! Unfortunately it was my first time back in the UK in over a year, and I forgot that you often need to inquire in advance about adding a tip! Our server Lucy was excellent and I promised I'd leave this review in lieu. Thank you Lucy, and sorry about that!
