I had booked The One Elm for dinner at 8pm on a Sunday night. When I got there, the very friendly server showed me to a lovely table and gave me the menu. However, she told me that they had run out of one of the starters and four of the mains, including the two vegetarian options. I am not vegetarian but thought this was poor service for anyone who was. I ordered baked camembert for my starter and ox cheek for my main. However, before my food came out the server came back told me that they had run out of the celeriac puree that was supposed to come with the ox cheek and would I be happy with mashed potatoes instead? I was slightly annoyed at this and considered just paying for the drink I had had and leaving, but didn't know where else I could go at such short notice. I did indeed have the ox cheek with mashed potato and in fairness it was delicious. I then asked for the dessert menu and was told that they had run out of the apple and blackberry crumble, which was what I would have picked, but that they had everything else. I ordered the apple tarte tatin which came with vanilla ice cream. Then was told they had run out of vanilla ice cream! I had it with cookie dough ice cream instead. Overall, a bit of a mixed bag of a review - the food I had was lovely but to be told that five dishes including a starter and both vegetarian options wasn't ideal, and then to have replacement ingredients in two courses because they had run out of those as well didn't help. That said, the pub is clean and although quiet at that time of evening, had a pleasant atmosphere. Staff were friendly, and I would certainly recommend the Cinnamon Martini.

We arrived in Stratford upon Avon in the late afternoon and once we'd unpacked we went for a walk around town. By 8pm we were getting a bit peckish and as we walked up to the pub thought it didn't look busy so went in. How wrong could we be, the place is huge and was busy with only a couple of tables available. The place goes further back than the view from the front. We were shown to the table by a young lady who took our drinks order. I ordered an aged beef pie with vegetables and gravy which she said would take around 20 minutes, which was fine , my fiancé is a vegetarian and she had the wild mushroom and leek risotto, which she said was the best she'd ever had. What a fantastic place, lots of charm and character and best of all stunning food. Very reasonable price too. After we finished we saw the chef in the bar and complimented him on his food. Everything is fabulous, the setting, the food and the staff, I would definitely go back and can't recommend it enough. We were only in Stratford upon Avon for 2 days and wished we'd gone back but wanted to visit other places. I will say, if you want to go there then book a table in advance so you won't be disappointed.

We had a mediocre experience here - my husband’s Manhattan was not good, even after explicit instructions. My Kir Royale had too much Kir. The pork belly was OK, and I didn’t like the crab cake at all. Even the green salad was so-so. There must be better places than this at Stratford.

We arrived before the restaurant was open and we were sheltering from the rain, waiting for friends and we were invited inside. The dogs were given biscuits and water and we had coffees. We dropped by this location on the afternoon of 18/05. We hadn’t made a pre-reservation but were promptly allocated a table. We hadn’t intended to eat but the menu was too enticing. As we were only looking for a bite to eat with a drink, we opted for starters only. I chose the carrot & ginger soup and my husband had the terrine served with a bowl of chips. Both dishes were very tasty! Super friendly and ‘chirpy’ staff who could not do enough for us. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.

Welcome and service was excellent. I made a joke about my wife being cold and in retaliation the manager bought her a hot water bottle, brilliant come back. Food was probably the best roast dinner with green vegetables and roasted roots I've had in a long time. Perfectly cooked home made Yorkshire Puddings! My only criticism if you want to call it that is the cauliflower cheese wasn't. We were served cauliflower au gratin, the difference being no béchamel sauce. I would have rated it perfect but for this. Come on guys, it's not hard to do the simple things properly. We'll definitely be back though. Thanks for a great afternoon.

We arrived for a couple of nights in Stratford on Tuesday lunchtime and thought we would pop in here for a drink and a bite to eat. The staff were so nice and welcoming and the food was top notch. We were so impressed that we called in again on Wednesday evening and although we hadn’t booked, a table in a booth was found for us. The member of staff did warn us that they were very busy with a couple of big tables that had just sat down so there might be a bit of a wait for the food. We were in no rush so we ordered and enjoyed a drink. We didn’t have to wait very long indeed, despite it being very busy indeed. Again, the staff made us very welcome and the food was just as good, in fact the steak and ale pie was the best I have ever tasted! Well done to everyone involved, we would definitely recommend a visit to this lovely pub 😊

Booked this place for new years eve. We don't know Stratford but we're glad we chose here. On entry it appears to be a traditional pub, the restaurant is to the rear with an upstairs section as well. We were given a set menu for new year which was quite short but the result was fantastically cooked and presented meals which we didn't have to wait long for. The staff we met were polite and friendly, the welcome was warm making for a lovely atmosphere to eat in. Should we find ourselves in Stratford again we will almost certainly return.

The team at the one elm were unhelpful and any variety on the menu was met with non compliance. All we wanted to do was change garlic King prawns to mushrooms and that could not be done according to the manager and not the chef. Being a mere stone's throw from where we stayed for a week, it was a no-brainer to visit this hostelry. We liked the variety that this surprisingly spacious establishment has to offer. A warren of characterful rooms offers a good choice of the intimate and the more group-orientated options. The central courtyard is sheltered and pleasant to spend time in, even during the winter (assuming it's not raining) because there are heaters. There's also the spacious 'barn' if rain drives you inside. There's a fair selection of ales, lagers and ciders on tap, although I was a little disappointed not to see much in the way of more seasonal dark ales. My wife approved of the white wine on offer and we both enjoyed a cocktail (some interesting twists on the regulars). I cannot comment on the food, although the menu looked interesting (if a little more expensive than I would ideally like) and a couple of plates I did see in passing looked good. We ended up chatting with both the staff and some of the customers, which was nice: friendly and welcoming. It's a dog-friendly establishment and we enjoyed their company too. Are you listening Mr Wetherspoon? Music was kept to a sensible level, which meant we didn't need to shout at each other - always appreciated. Yes, another we would return to in the future when visiting Stratford.

How different can a restaurant be in a couple of months. I’ve previously left good reviews but can’t this time. We arrived early and were sat at our table. The waiter said I’ll bring you the specials menu in a minute and get some drinks to you. 20 minutes later no drinks or specials. We had to ask to order drinks and told most of the specials were sold out at 7pm! Having ordered drinks we had to wait for 25 minutes to order food! Starters came after another 25 minutes. Camembert was so small and over cooked. Then waited another 45 minutes for mains. Venison cottage pie was completely dried out and I had to ask for extra gravy. Vegetarian tart was pathetic. Tiny and dried out. Ordered extra chips that eventually arrived 15 minutes late. 20 minutes later the gravy arrived! Veal pie was tasteless with a tiny amount of kale. Didn’t have pudding as didn’t want to wait another 30 minutes. Obviously very short staffed and chefs must have changed. Server kept apologising for delay but didn’t help as food going cold whilst waiting. Will never go back. Not cheap and spoilt for choice in Stratford so spend our money elsewhere!

I work just 500m away at Blade Motorcycles but never visited. Excellent in every way. When my wife gives a restaurant 10/10 you can trust it's worth a try

Good food and service, lovely outdoor area but unfortunately a bit too much smoking whilst eating, so not so enjoyable for me or my children

We were seated upstairs which was a cosy space with the walls covered in black and white Cecil Beaton photos. The busy serving staff were all very friendly and chatty and a shout out to our server who’s name we didn’t get but we’ll call her the ‘mad girl from Oz’. She was as crazy as us. The food portions are generous and our meals were lovely. We’d happily order them again especially the Spring gnocchi which was basically a bowl of gooey goodness. The halloumi fries were double the size I’ve had anywhere else and very crunchy with a tomato based dipping sauce. My husband had the new English asparagus followed by Chicken Schnitzel and both were given a thumbs up. We’d had a very busy and slightly rubbish day so our One Elm experience was a good way to finish it. My one regret - I didn’t have any room for the treacle tart. We’ll have to go back just for that!

Traveling through and took a chance on The One Elm. It was everything we could have wished for. Sat upstairs. Tasty food, good drinks, great service, nice ambience.

Portions a little small compared to prices, service on main a little slow but they did apologise and let us know they were behind. Pudding lacked flavour. Overall a good meal though. I would probably return.

The wait staff were top notch. That said, it was a long long long wait for dessert (43 minutes). It arrived with apologies from the chef but in the future, early notice about the delay would have defused inquiring minds and concerns. It was quite tasty!!! All told, a perfect spot and attentive staff. Excellent quality. And we learned the English word for arugula.

Food was good. Service was very slow - waited over an hour after arrival to get starters.

We visit Stratford on Avon regularly and always head for the One Elm at the end of shopping or before a theatre trip. The staff are lovely, the food a blend of pub grub and fine dining, and the pub itself very roomy, casual and comfortable. What's not to like?

We had booked a table for a family group of 8people but the servers seemed unprepared for us and initially showed us to a booth suitable for 6people max. Our starters arrived with a delay of 15mins between the first starter being served to the final three. The server apologised and said that there was a “mix up in the kitchen”. While awaiting our main courses the server let us know that there had been another “mix up in the kitchen” so it took another 30mins or so for the main courses to come. The staff were pleasant and apologetic but it was not a great dining experience. Thankfully the food (once it arrived) was delicious. English asparagus with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce was delicious, as was the egg soufflé.

Great service by a lovely Aussie girl, however that’s where the good experience ended, sadly. The food was overpriced for the quality, one steak was undercooked (returned, then over cooked) and there were several items unavailable - madness for a Saturday evening. Also, both the male and female toilets were disgusting- in serious need of cleaning.

We had a fantastic Sunday dinner the roast beef was cooked to perfection, we will most definitely be booking again when we visit Stratford-Upon-Avon again. Thank you

As a sufferer of IBS i needed the toilet urgently after travelling all day to and from st. barts hospital for a pre accessment for heart surgery . Every toilet i went to at stratford train which was quite a walk from one to the other ,were all out of action ! I had to go to the shopping centre to find one ! With several pay rises , you would expect a necessity like a toilet would be working !!

Poor in comparison to what it originally was some years ago when privately owned. We thought the food was very average and somewhat overcooked, prices high both for drinks and food. Very nice inside and a good atmosphere, friendly staff but that I am afraid is where it ends, Certainly would not rush back or recommend

Laura, Felan and the team hosted a group of us recently for a buffet meal. As ever the food was exceptional and the service brilliant. Can't recommend the Golden Cross highly enough. Thanks to everyone!
