After hearing good reviews about the place I was very disappointed, arrived for takeaway only couldn’t find the takeaway menu available to view from outside, which I found rather strange, as I entered it was displayed on inside facing in the shop, again I found this strange especially with the covid restrictions, proceeded to place order and asked for a latte, white coffee, 3 bacon and sausage rolls and when the girl read back my order she told me two lattes I said no a latte and a white coffee to which she told me they are the same thing, sorry they are not ! After waiting 25 minutes for my order, when I got back to the car and opened the rolls I was shocked as the rolls looked like they had been sat on they were flat they had been ripped open by hand not cut with a knife and basically falling apart the sausage looked like it had been cooked for 25 mins (burnt) for the money we paid certainly wasn’t worth it and won’t be back

First visit to sit in last Saturday - I was fortunate enough to be 5th in the queue at opening time and get the final available table. I knew exactly what I wanted before I even got there so sat with my menu to the side of the table to make it clear I was ready to have my order taken. 20 minutes passed and the server hadn’t even looked in my direction. By this point, I realised by the time my order was taken and then made, along with the other 4 orders that had been taken in front of mines, I would miss the appointment I had scheduled therefore, I had to get up and leave. The server was quick to notice I was leaving and apologised, if they could have noticed how long my menu had been shut for as quickly as they noticed me leaving, then maybe the tone of my review would be different. Second visit as a take away customer earlier this week - asked for a coffee and was advised that service stopped at 3. I was slightly taken aback as I didn’t think it was this late. Upon checking my watch I realised it was 3:01 and pointed out to the sever that it was only to take away and surely this could be done quickly. I was told again that they shut at 3 - despite there clearly being customers still sitting at a table. Third visit as a takeaway customer today (before 3pm) - I ordered 2 x cappuccinos only to realise once home, I had been given 2 cups of warm milk. Not a single hint of coffee in either of the drinks. Warm milk with chocolate sprinkles on top. For £5.20.I can let 1 bad experience go as everywhere has extremely busy/make mistakes but after a third time, I feel like I need to leave a review and make this known. I will not be returning to be disappointed for a fourth time.

Good points: friendly staff, nice coffee, excellent Covid precautions in placeNot so good points: the toastier was the thinnest ever, it looked and tasted like the cheapest of breads used, could not taste any cheese. My wife’s eggs benedict were overcooked with the muffin pretty hard to cut, she should have said at the time but there you go.Overall, we felt the £16+ for the eggs, a toastie (no salad) and two coffees represented poor value. If the quality had been of a higher standard, no problem, but it wasn’t.

We had to wait for a table which was totally understandable which was understandable given the place is quite small and they have the tables further apart due to covid. The protection in place for covid was excellent with wipeable screens between each table. Couldn't decide between savoury and sweet do had eggs ecosse and French toast and both were class!

So, we came here for sandwiches before getting on the ferry due to the TA reviews. We ordered ham and cheese sandwiches and a tuna crunch melt. All were nicely packaged but the sandwiches themselves were mean to say the least. My tuna crunch was quite burnt and the filling almost non existent and it was £4.50. The ham and cheese were, quite frankly, mean. We were too late to go back as were in the ferry queue. Hopefully this was an off day

Having seen this place and the food on social media we were keen to drive out to check this place out. It did not disappoint! We ordered the pancake platter for 2, after being tempted by a sight of a few plates of eggs benedict going past us. The staff were lovely and attentive, when we ordered the pancakes the waiter there could be a short wait but we weren't in a hurry and happy to sit and chat while our food was prepared.Pancakes arrived and just wow! Such tasty, fluffy, freshly made pancakes and toppings galore - it was amazing. The crispy bacon was done so well and the fruit was super fresh and juicy. I'd say it was reasonably priced I was happy to pay what we did for what we got.We drove out from Glasgow and will definitely return - I'm keen for a milkshake and some eggs benny next time!Would recommend it you're around for sure.

Had to wait 10-15 min for a table but was expected so not a problem. Ordered drinks which arrived quickly. 2 coffees and a milkshake which were lovely. Unfortunately between them arriving and our food coming was a wait of nearly 40 minutes. Had to ask if it would be much longer. Food was really nice when it eventually arrived. Overall was nice but the wait put me off. A bit pricey for what you get as well. Staff were all very friendly it should be said.

We had lunch in Gourock and then decided to try out the Cove for coffee and cake as we read in the local paper that it had recently been revamped. It was our first and LAST visit. We arrived at around 2.30pm and even before going in to the establishment you have to squeeze past many garbage bins which are kept on the pavement, this should have been a warning however we had walked 30mins to get there and wanted to give it a try. The tables are far to close together, the service is absolutely terrible, the staff dont seem to care about the customers, it is so slow. There was very limited supply of cakes, no scones. We ordered tea, coffee and one coconut square (stale). The setting of this place is good, HOWEVER the windows were streaming with condensation and could not see out.Bottom line, I would suggest going somewhere else, there are plenty of good places to eat and drink in Gourock, this is NOT one of them.

Invited mum to lunch as she had never been before and couldn’t be more disappointed, a quick snack turned into being in there for almost 3 hours all in and for a Monday and having 3 members of staff on FOH this was ridiculous. Was seated ‘eventually’ at a dirty table and tables surrounding us were covered in previous customers plates still. People were coming in and being sat at tables which hadn’t been cleared yet, when it was not busy enough to be an issue. When we eventually, after about an hour, received our food both meals bread were rock solid and couldn’t cut with a knife, which we then made the waitress aware. To my surprise she left our plates on the table instead of taking back to the kitchen to replace we were brought 1 piece of toasted dry bread on a plate which the waitress plonked on the table, said nothing and just about ran away which was a bit confusing. I then had to ask another member of staff if this was their ‘fix’ of the issue and had to ask for butter as none of the spread from the original order was on the new piece of bread ‍♀️ Drinks were taken off the bill which was kind but not necessary, our order should have been remade as not much of it was eaten due to this. FOH staff definitely need to be trained on how to deal with customers a bit more i think. Sad One cove rd standard are dropping, used to go all the time.

We visited One Cove Road yesterday afternoon for lunch. Although food and location are fantastic, unfortunately the service was very poor. We ordered coffee and cake theee times and still didn’t get them. We then told the staff not to bother as we didn’t want these items now. However, the price of the (unreceived) coffees/cakes was on the bill and we were asked what was wrong when we asked for said items to be removed. We were told they were very busy and they try their best. There’s actually a counter for folks to come in to buy carry out snacks, rather than sit in the cafe and these customers were always served first, hence our forgotten coffee/cakes, which we had waited half and hour for, had reminded the staff three times for, and had never received. We suggest that there should be a member of staff to serve the walk-in shop customers and other staff members could then serve the sit-in cafe customers. In that way, the cafe customers would also get served as efficiently as the walk-in ones.

The cheese and onion toastie was flavoursome, accompanied by crisps and can be added to with the addition of soup or coleslaw. The flat white coffee was very well presented, delicious and very good value at £2.55 a cup. My partner has lived in Gourock for over 10 years and stated that One Cove Road is one of the best places to eat, sadly our last experience did not match this. The cafe was busy and understaffed on arrival. Having worked in service before I understand that being busy cannot be helped and I had complete patience with this. We were sat at our table after about 10 minutes and then our orders and drinks arrived in good time. Both my partner and I are vegetarian so ordered the vegan chilli. We waited 40 - 50 minutes for our food to arrive and what arrived was really not up to the standards my partner had discussed before. You would not call what arrived chilli - it was more of a bizarre powder. It was dry and tasteless - no sauce at all. I ordered the nachos so I was saved by the salsa and sour cream, however my partner ordered the cheese and chilli sandwich and stated it was dry and totally unappetising. The worst lunch I have had in a while. A real shame.

We ordered lunch my husband having the full breakfast which is available all day. He couldn’t fault it and enjoyed it. I ordered a steak and onion long type sandwich. The bread part was cold and not crispy, the 4 slices of large size tomatoes on it also really cold, onions which would have been nice had they been warmer and strips of steak could also have been warmer. Because the bread part and tomatoes were cold it made the whole thing unappetising. I had to mention to the girl serving that it was very cold could they heat it please. It came back with the bread part and tomatoes only slightly heated. It should have been piping hot and not served with 4 slices of cold tomato on it and no steak knife making it difficult to cut the steak. We then waited a long time (just over 15 minutes) after we were finished for someone to come back and see what else we wanted. .We asked for two different types of scones and coffee. However, they were definitely not round scones as we know them but squares cut from either a loaf or cake. The outside of the squares of loaf/cake quite dry as though they had been cut a while and the air had got at them. The little pot of jam provided wasn’t nearly enough to spread over them.

This place, with a lovely location, was a great favourite for several years; wonderful, personal, welcoming service, superb freshly prepared quality meals,a very interesting, tempting menu. Sadly, since change of ownership and staff, we have seen a real deterioration, from the poor, unimaginative menu choices, a manager with an unfortunate offhand, arrogant manner and staff who have little idea of running an efficient cafe. The cakes still look good and homemade, but the quality of food items, (breads particularly, are poor) is very different from those used in the past. I have been many times for breakfast and lunch. On my last visit I felt things had changed, and not in a good way. However ,I wanted to give it another go. First off , cleaning the tables with bleach is a really bad idea(at least when open). It smelled very strong and was not pleasant. My table was cleaned as I waited , even though there were other tables available? Service was fast and I still enjoy the cucumber water. Apart from that everything else has changed , the quality ,the presentation and how much you actually get. My poached eggs on toast was not that good. The bread used was old crusty bread which had definitely been in the freezer at some point. You can tell a lot just from the wrinkly crust. It was tough as old boots, and I would like it buttered all over the toast . Just not enough care , eggs were ok ,got 2. My husband's crouque was basic with undercooked bacon and cheap cheese. Seems they have cut down on the number of cakes available but I do think they are still homemade ?? It just doesn't seem the same as it used to be . Has this place different owners ?

I felt that when we were handed the menu that the cafe had been taken over, but when we asked was advised that it hadn’t and that it was just the menu changed in June. It had been a while since we'd been anyway not really seeing what we wanted other than a cheese and onion toastie, we were asked what we normally ordered so requested a bacon and Brie toasted baguette, what arrived was very different from our previous visits. White baguette hardly toasted with half melted Brie and bacon, served with 2 large limp lettuce leaves, some sad looking tomatoes and large slices of cucumber. Normally they served the baguettes with dressed mixed salad leaves, coleslaw which always looked homemade and tortilla chips and a properly toasted hot baguette and filling. It was ok but eating warmish bread with this type of filling wasn’t great. The guy was good and did say that the chef was the same for 20 years but I’m sorry this is not what they used to serve. We were going to have a cake but decided to go somewhere else. It’s sad as it used to be fabulous, perhaps we just hit it on a bad day, he did kindly take one of the baguettes off the bill, yes I did eat most of mine but I had to as I’m a type 1 diabetic and had already given myself insulin just prior to eating it, if I had tasted it first I wouldn’t have bothered eating it as at £6.95 it wasn’t worth that cost. Doubt if we’ll be back which is a shame as we always loved the views whilst we ate.

My husband and I visited today for coffee and scones. I ordered a treacle scone and my husband ordered a fruit scone. Both were served with 2 portions of butter and small jar of jam. I haven’t eaten a treacle scone since my early teenage years and these didn’t disappoint, they were fantastic. My husband also loved the fruit scone. The coffee was excellent and we also received a refreshing glass of cucumber flavoured water which was a nice touch. The service was excellent in this lovely cafe/Bistro and I look forward to returning soon.

We went as a family as we love our cheeses and cold meats and found the evening very disappointing. The cheeses that were selected were bland and the small bit of Parma ham does not constitute a selection of charcuterie. Where tuna mayonnaise comes into it I am unsure but it was there. There was no draft beer available only bottled which helped to inflate the bill. Disappointed in the whole evening.

So many wonderful things to share - from the delicious egg ecosse to the beautiful view, cucumber infused water and the great play list. The best part was the earl gray eteaket tea - amazing!

Visited here for some lunch with my dad & son after a trip to Cardwell Park. The service was good & the waiter brought my son out some pages & crayons to occupy him, which was good. However, I felt the food was slightly over priced for what it was. I got a ham & cheese toastie which was literally just the toastie on the plate for over £5! A side of salad or crisps would have been nice perhaps, it just looked like it had been thrown on the plate. The atmosphere was relaxed & the scenery is 2nd to none but the food let it down for me

Have been here twice and this review is overdue. Been in the morning, after the swimming, for coffee and cakes and the cakes are amazing. The chocolate Guinness cake deserves a special mention - it was so light and moist - the best I've tasted. Hubby loves the scones and he also said they are the best scones he has ever had. I will be bringing my friends here for lunch and am so looking forward to it.

I've had breakfast and afternoon tea here - both excellent. When it's sunny it can be quite busy but actually I haven't had difficulties getting a seat. Service good and menu is interesting and varied for a lunch or, of course, breakfast - I had scrambled eggs and they were excellent. Watch the waistline, the cakes are very tempting! Don't rely on the free wi-fi as annoyingly it's a bit intermittent in spite of being adjacent to a BT wiring box :(

Just inside the Gourock boundary, on the edge of the Cove, a pretty little cafe with reasonable food of the Caesar salad/eggs benedict/croque monsieur variety, good eteaket tea. Minor downsides a mildly overworked and manager, and my Caesar salad ( otherwise very good) arrived with no anchovies. They made up with a plate of excellent mild anchovies in olive oil ( not tinned, not salty). Eggs ecossaise ( black pudding and poached eggs) well received by my husband. At lunchtime you may have to queue for a table, generally a good sign. Only other very minor downside, the mirror in the ( unisex) toilet is at giant height - I could just see the top of my head !! Despite this, recommended for lunch or tea/coffee if you are nearby:-))

Excellent menu. Food is delicious. Even if you're watching your weight the staff happy to hear requests for sugar free syrup for coffee etc, skimmed milk,, no dressing on salad etc. The fussiest customer will be happy. The cake selection is to die for too. Top marks

In Greenock, I dropped past One Cove Road last week on a business visit. I wanted a good cup of coffee and something light mid morning......found! Excellent coffee delivered with an iced water and simple brown toast. It was a warm day as I sat there, taking in the ambience of this very smart, clean and well designed café whilst to my left Cardwell Bay a quick step away! This place is a gift from heaven and just wished I could have stayed for lunch!!! Staff are friendly and attentive; I could not wish better.

This is quite a small cafe cum bistro with about 12 tables seating 4, decorated in a black minimalist style, and quite noisy when busy! Well known for it's coffee selection and it's pots of tea with timer and complementary glass of cold cucumber water, which was a nice touch !

Came here after dropping my wee one for her first day at school. Was greeted by a very rude old lady who wasnt staff shouting Q at the top of her voice which was strange, as we had only poked our heads in the door. Thankfully the staff were very helpful and managed to get us a table within a couple of minutes. We had cake / scones and coffee all of which were very nice. I have to say this was slightly spoiled by the smell of the cleaning fluid they used to clean the tables. Im not someone who is usually bothered by smells but i really disliked this one. I defo give it another try as my wife loves the place.

lovely little café by the sea near Greenock/Gourock boundary. The food is delicious with good sized portions. Only down side is the size of the café. very small and always seems to be busy. so much so that on four occasions we have just left as the wait time was too long. But is is worth the effort - if you get in. I don't think you can book a table for lunch. This means there are usually some clients nursing a coffee while hungry diners like me stand about.
