On the Rocks in Hastings

The creamy espresso was a nice surprise, with a balanced flavor that’s rare to find in the UK. You can tell the owner really cares about picking quality beans.

Unfortunately the coffee tasted stale like the machine hadn’t been cleaned. The bacon sandwich had a minimal amount of bacon along with dry bread. If this was around the £5 mark it would be acceptable but it costs £9. What a rip off 🤦

Superb food friendly and efficient staff!

Firstly, although not a glowing review, I was really touched by the service by one of the chaps there. All problems were dealt with quickly. They were obviously very busy and so the experience was not great. A shame because we were there celebrating and it kinda took the shine off the morning actually. We ordered, our drinks came, we were informed that there's quite a wait for the food because they were busy. I enquired how long, not at all to rush them, but anyone with small-ish kids will know that when you're already pushing your luck for brunch, EVERY SECOND COUNTS. Not to be served more quickly but so we could manage our time and the kids expectations. The lovely chap said he'd try to get the kids meals out first. This resulted in one incorrect meal, and one that was not cooked properly and the sauce wasn't on the side as I'd asked. So sadly that had to be sent back as my son wouldn't touch any of it. My husband ate all of his and my daughter ate a lot of her full English. My chicken hash was a little lack lustre, eggs not really cooked very much, the potatoes were hard, the onion almost raw too. I don't think it was pulled chicken, more like little chunks of chicken. I ate as much as I could because not only were the kids a time bomb having waited so long and we only had a few hours in Hastings before we had to leave. We were compensated for the my son's meal in the bill. I felt awful for being that person of the day sending something back already that I just ate mine. Sadly we won't get that time back or that celebration (hopefully anyways, 10 year wedding anniversary) and I could have done without the glare from the gal serving at the end. I'd go back, probably without the kids, for drinks as the inside is achingly cool (try explaining to an 8 year old why she can't repeat half the stuff written in the loo! IFKYK) and the colour on the outside is totally dreamy. Gorgeous view of the beach and people watching to be had. I wish them heaps of luck, as I think it's a fledgling bar/cafe and hopefully no bad blood as I'd definitely like to come back.

We had a New Year’s Eve 7 course tasting menu here last night, my partner has lots of allergies (gluten/yeast) so the owner/chef created a menu especially for him which was above & beyond! The food was outstanding (best sponge dessert I’ve ever tasted!), the service was excellent, amazing cocktails and super friendly atmosphere. Thank you so much! Will defo be back 😍

I would 110% recommend this place. Went for a meal with friends (large table) and had the Christmas menu. The chef prepared me each dish gluten free and it was amazing. The scotch egg was phenomenal, turkey roast delicious and the chocolate fondant so yummy. It’s not often I have a really good gluten free 3 course meal that is not just the usual steak and sorbet! I will definitely back. Really excellent service too.

Small and cute place, and I wasn’t expecting much from the food but the homemade soup BLEW me away!! And the bread was perfection, buttered and toasted perfectly with rock salt! This was like gourmet bread for soup…I’ve never had someone make such an EFFORT for my bread that went with soup! The soup was tomato basil, and you could taste they blitzed up fresh basil and some sun-dried tomatoes for an extra tomato charge! Some were on top too. It was absolutely amazing. I haven’t had soup like this in forever. I could tell they were preparing it fresh. Very quick and nice service, only the waitress forgot my water at the end. This often happens when something is free, unfortunately. :( Not paying, so not bothered. Besides that, it was a great lunch and unexpected!

Just people watching along Hastings seafront. Stopped for a coffee and a rest in the sun. Really helpful and friendly owner who served the best coffee that we had had in a long time . They also do a traditional Sunday dinner (12-4 pm).

Absolutely love Sturdee on the Rocks second time visiting and the staff have yet again gone above and beyond. They had no 0% alcohol so one of the team left the building to get me one thank you again Wayne and the team for making our experience at your restaurant a nice one.

Took my wife out for lunch to Hastings, we knew we were going to Hastings just never knew where we was going to eat. Strolling along the seafront we came upon Sturdee on the Rocks. The hospitality 10/10 the young Lady in there was attentive to our every need always coming to check to see if all was okay and her product knowledge spot on. As we left we met Wayne the Chef top Cook 10/10 tasty food well plated and lovely sized portions also tasted a non alcoholic beverage for the first time and loved it. Would definitely recommend and would 100% do the drive again to revisit. Thank you guys for a lovely afternoon. From myself and my Wife. Unfortunately we never took photos. And just so you know who left this review we beeped as we drove past.

This bar is mine and my boyfriends favourite, they do the best cocktails I’ve EVER tasted. Millie is always so friendly and always goes that extra mile, highly recommend!

We decided to have fish and chips for lunch after a windy stroll along tge sea front. Every restaurant or cafe looked quite down market or only took cash. Then we found On The Rocks. The welcome as we walked through the door was very friendly. The vibe of the place was upbeat and the service was first rate. The food was every bit as good as it looked. If ever I'm in Hastings again (this was my first visit) then I would happily return to try some of the other things on the menu.

Amazing homemade breakfast, we was visiting twice. Big recommendation. Definitely we will back.

I have been here many times, and not once been disappointed! It’s the perfect spot for a coffee, food, and I even had my 30th birthday party here which was just perfect! The team are so lovely and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. I’ve tried most things on the menu now and all are delicious 👌🏼 very highly recommend.

I have eaten here many times and every time has not been anywhere close to disappointment! The staff are super friendly and helpful. The whole place has such a good feel about it, when the sun is shining it is without a doubt one of the best sun trap spots in hastings! A great edition to the town all should be proud

All the pictures are from their breakfast menu which looked amazing and is why I went. HOWEVER after 11am the menu goes down hill pretty rapidly. Look at the pathetic excuse for a burger, and I’ve never seen scampi overcooked this much.

It was a very good fish and chips meal! The cod was very fresh, like I'd just caught it! Also, the fish and chips were not greasy, which made it possible to taste! Thank you so much!

We came last night as a group of ten, for a cocktail class, it was amazing- Alicia above and beyond. From the actual cocktail making to the little extra details like the hangover kits. It couldn’t have been any better. All 3 girls working last night were so friendly, full of fun & smiles. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We booked Sturdee on the rocks for a leaving meal for one of our best friends moving to Australia. The owner Matt was very accommodating, allowed us to have the table early in order for us to decorate prior to our friend arriving. The restaurant itself is lovely, it has a really nice vibe and it’s clean! The chef was wonderful, a chef of many talents! She took our order and was so accommodating for everyone’s needs and catered too all allergies and veggies. She even customised a dish for me with me simply telling her what my food preferences were and honestly it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a really long time and worth every penny. The cocktails were delicious, they offer 2 for £15. Service was great and overall we had a really good time and I would highly recommend Sturdee on the rocks to anyone looking for good food and good drinks. Thanks to Matt and his team for hosting us.

We came in on the bank holiday Monday and was received with a very warm welcome , you could see the chef hard at work and the whole area is brand new and spotless, the waitress was very accommodating and helpful, the food was excellent and very good quality for the price , 10/10 for everything.

Popped in for a coffee. Wasn't impressed. For a coffee love. Found the coffee they had was bland and left a bitter taste behind. The staff was very friendly and the price for a coffee was very reasonable compared to other coffee shops around.

Sturdee on the Rocks is a charming restaurant located on Hastings Sea Front. Today, I had the pleasure of dining there for Mother's Day, and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. The highlight of the meal was the roast dinner. It was cooked to perfection and came with all the trimmings, including crispy roast potatoes, succulent meat, and a selection of fresh vegetables. The portion size was generous, and the flavours were exceptional. But what really made the meal stand out was the complimentary bunch of flowers that the restaurant gave me. It was a lovely gesture and showed that they truly care about their customers. The atmosphere of Sturdee on the Rocks was also wonderful. The restaurant had a cozy and welcoming ambiance, with friendly staff and a beautiful sea view. It was the perfect setting for a special occasion like Mother's Day. I highly recommend Sturdee on the Rocks to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience in Hastings. The food was excellent, the service was exceptional, and the atmosphere was superb. I will definitely be returning in the near future.

We went here for dinner with a friend a few nights ago and all three of us were very impressed. The service was very friendly and attentive - a staff member with a French accent served us. The food was incredibly good. I had the burger which was very comprehensive. Puddings also very good. There’s no doubt we will return here, as the quality exceeded the price which is also refreshing these days. Well done!

My husband and I came here for dinner on Saturday and the food was amazing. Brilliant service and was asked if we wanted a break between our starters and mains, which I thought was nice to be given that option. The food was really tasty. We have no complaints and will be back soon. Thank you 😃

Nice cafe / wine bar / restaurant right on the seafront in Hastings. The location is amazing looking straight out to see opposite the main car park in Hastings seafront. They sell food drinks including cocktails. Good service nice seating area very modern with good design. Nice place to sit have a, breakfast, brunch, food drink, coffee or even a cocktail with friends!

What an amazing place to have breakfast in hastings, the full English was absolutely amazing, loved it. If you're ever in or around Hastings you must try this place you will not be disappointed. Thank you for a great breakfast will certainly be back.
