A quirky little place but the staff were friendly and service was efficient. The menu isn't huge but all the favourites are there, the portions are sufficient and nicely packed. With a little luck parking is easy. When we went the Happy Garden was very busy so maybe a phone order in future The only down side is that it's cash only

A superb Chineses takeaway. Staff are always friendly, orders are taken promptly over the phone, and made wellbaware how long before your food is ready. The food is always freshly cooked, and always piping hot on collection. Tasty, and plenty of it, so great value for money. I love the chefs specials, especially The Four Seasons.. Saves us now going into Exeter for a good Chinese.

We always have crispy aromatic duck. But Happy Garden don’t know the meaning of word ‘crispy’. Sorry, but it should not be wet & fatty with no flavour. It’s not a cheap appetiser either, yet they get it so wrong all the time lately. Thought maybe it was a one off, but three times was not a charm.

Happy Garden don’t have many happy customers. We arrive d and ordered the food to take away. We went back to collect it and drive home 15 minutes away. When we got home it wasn’t all there by a long way. When I rang they said we could come and collect it or get our money back. Unbelievable! £50 worth of food for a birthday celebration with my son and we get some rice and two dishes with the bag filled out with prawn crackers! This is now the second time in 4 weeks the same thing has happened. Getting ones money back is hardly satisfactory for a ruined evening meal…a complete shambles…

I was eating my Chinese when something crunched in my mouth, it was like grit, found what looked like glass!!!! Called and they said I could have a free meal but I wanted a refund, drove back up and the person who I think was in charge tried to say it was the plastic from the container, sorry but plastic does not crunch like grit in your mouth, he wasn't even gonna refund me for everything until I demanded, and tried to get out of it and never apologised, I will never eat here again 🤬😡

Visiting from Cornwall for 8weeks and this place as given me back confidence in Chinese food. Freshly cooked to order and great tasting large dishes. Keep up the great work guys .... by far the best takeaway on the high street and trust me I have tried them all In two weeks. Most are well below average but this place has my order every time.

We decided to give this Chinese takeaway a second chance after a disappointing meal some time ago , we only had chicken balls with sauce and a chowmein with soft noodles unfortunately I had a very long black hair amongst the noodles which I had put in my mouth ugh!! Made me feel quite sick pulling it out of my mouth it was about a foot long, disgusting.

Not sure if its new owners, new cooks or both but what a difference. Was really cautious about going here as a year or so ago had a very bad experience Um Bong as it use to be known. However have to say we ordered meals for five and we were all impressed. Well packaged, hot, and grease free food with taste! Recommend the lemon chicken, chicken and black bean and sweet and sour. Keep up the standards

Moved out of area near Okehampton and still travel to Happy Garden in Crediton. As in my opinion the best Chinese for miles

Far superior to the other two Chinese restaurants in town, which are over sweet and under spiced, and actually prepares your food at the time you ask for it! Happy Garden does really good Chinese, I wouldn't go back to the others.

Ordered from here for a take out as my local Chinese was closed for their annual holiday. It has since changed ownership so was keen to try it out anyway. I must say it was delicious. Quick and easy to order as well as good customer service - will deffo be going here again for my take out

So very sorry that the On Bong Crediton is no more, since mid May. I am also sad to see the poor reviews over the last year. No doubt all true and yes, the Lady at the till is volatile, but would any of you try to stem the tide of sometimes difficult public and getting everything right all the time? As far as I know, it has been only her and her husband doing the cooking for maybe 25 years. Relentless and Stressful. I am so sorry not to have had the opportunity to say goodbye to them, as we never had a bad meal and had become friendly acquaintances. They were both always charming to us. They worried that the many new takeaways would make it difficult and the price of their quality ingredients was going up. The replacement establishment is dumbed down tasteless English Chinese, everything covered in bland gravy. We loved the On Bong as it had authentic dishes if you chose to order them along with all the mock Chinese offerings. I will hold onto the memories of delicious meals and pray they are having a fine and well deserved retirement, no doubt away from Crediton. Should they ever read this, farewell, thank you and we will miss you very much.

Absolutely shocked and disgusted after buying takeaway from On Bong as our regular Chinese was closed. Ordered from the ‘vegetarian’ menu the vegetables with cashew nut, only to find a piece of beef in it. Called to complain and I was shouted at by the lady on the till who we’d ordered with, who told me I was lying and that she didn’t care. As she didn’t believe me and was being so unbelievably rude, we drove back to the takeaway with the dish and the piece of beef, only to be shouted at again. We asked to speak to the chef instead and she told us that if we went to the pub after complaining he would “chop our fingers off”. Eventually, after being berated for initially reporting it as pork instead of beef (irrelevant, as neither meat is vegetarian!) and for being difficult customers, she reluctantly refunded the £4.90. (No chance of a full refund for the £20 we spent!). Absolutely appalled - this take away has no understanding of ‘vegetarianism’ or ‘cross contamination’ and by their own admission do not care. Easily the worst customer service me and my partner have ever encountered. Please do not eat here.

We were regular customers to this Chinese, the food is usually good but unfortunately the ourder is nearly always wrong, they Always seem to add extra rice dishes to an ourder it always ends up being more expensive than you have calculated. The final straw was when After getting home with our order we realized we had dishes missing that we had paid for. I rang the lady up and was told I was wrong they had not made a mistake and she would not refund the £5 for the missing dishes ! I tried to explain that I was a regular customer and that her attitude to my problem was not acceptable and that seemed to make her even more angry ranting back at me over the phone, I told her that if she did not agree to refund me the £5 I would never use her business again she went berserk!,, so I just hung up on her. Big mistake as she kept trying to ring me back to have a go at me for the next 10 minutes absolutely unbelievable !!! Never been back there since even though she bumped into my wife and offered her a Voucher after we had not been there for 6 months. Beware of the mad Chinese lady

the food is reasonable, but be aware when buying your meal as the lady quite often gets the cost wrong and check your change and be prepared for her to throw a wobbly when you question her error.

Fuming. Walked in with friends to order some food- bearing in mind I was starving- ordered what I wanted off of the menu, went to go and pay with a £20 note, only to be told it was fake. Would not except the money and was told to go and use it in co-op to see if they would except and of course they did. Went back inside with the change and eventually :))))) got my order. Despite the turn of unfortunate events occurring, pleased with the food.

Just picked up a takeaway with excitement as we haven’t had Chinese in a while. I can honestly say it’s the worst Chinese I have ever had. Tasteless, rubbish food. I wouldn’t go back.

Good food but the worst customer service you'll ever find, to the point where a trip to the On Bong is worth it just for the entertainment. Managed to avoid being on the wrong side of the lady for a long time until recently when I dared suggest that the phrase 'includes boiled rice' meant that I should get rice with my curry. She blew her stack, yelled at me for five minutes and kicked me out (with no rice). I'll probably go back.

I dont normally give poor reviews but i feel i have to comment on this one. The chicken curry was very runny and chicken chewy. The flavour was more like malaysian than traditional chinese. The sweet and sour chicken was small but tasted fine. The most disappointing and surprising of all was the rice.. it was uncooked and slightly hard. We live 9 miles away but wouldnt go back.

Hemos estado comprando excelente comida para llevar china de en Bong por al menos 20 años. El trabajo familiar es muy difícil y siempre alegre y cada vez que llame a interesados. Estoy seguro de que es muy difícil mantener la calidad de la comida así tiempo. No cabe duda de que conseguir las dificultades habituales con muchos pubs y clientela que no pueden apreciar lo que están comprando. Mientras que muchos restaurantes han venido e ido en Crediton, que han soportado, en Bong es nuestra opción preferida cada vez. Ser aventureros con usted opción y no te decepcionará.

Called into this take away for sweet and sour chicken which was cooked to order or so I believed .meal was nice enough and was hot ...will visit again.

Very nice food always, weekends tend to be busy but the foods worth waiting for. Recommend the Lemon chicken delight with pineapple fried rice.

Excellent food always on offer from On Bong. Can be busy on Friday and Saturday nights so be ready for a wait between 6 and 8 p.m. in particular.

Crispy shredded beef is exactly how I like it, spicy enough without taking the roof off your mouth!! Courteous service and food has always been served hot.

Went here after recommendation from friend. Chef special fried rice was fine, sweet and sour chicken balls were hard with crunchy, oily batter. Wouldn't go back I'm afraid. My friends were happy with their dishes, avoid the batter balls.

Had a chicken curry, chicken was really chewy and opinions as good as raw. Food came out within minutes clearly not cooked properly.......Only positive was the Christmas calendar!!!

I'm a regular here. Food is without doubt the best Chinese in town. Admittedly the woman behind the counter can get somewhat flustered but she means well. On the whole if you like good Chinese food then I highly recommend On Bong.

Not sure why there are some poor reviews on this take away. It is miles better than the one across the road from it which frankly put us off having Chinese again. On bong however was very good. Not particularly greasy for a Chinese takeaway. Friendly lady. Looks like Chinese is back on the menu. Hoorah!

Very rude lady who can't cope under pressure especially on a busy night. She short changes and over charges you the food is average but personally I don't recommend. The Crown is much better especially service wise.

I am very surprised to read some of the negative reviews here. This may go to show that most people only write a review when they have had a bad experience, I don't know. What I do know is that on the two or three occasions that we have ordered food from On Bong, our meals have been to a very high standard indeed. I don't normally go for the gloopy mess that passes for curry in a lot of places, but the curry we have ordered from here has been a lot lighter and, frankly, delicious. The other dishes we ordered were very good too, and although I don't know a lot about Chinese cooking, seemed quite authentic. We have enjoyed it so much that we are quite prepared to pass other Chinese restaurants on the 30 mile round trip to get there. I have noticed that many of the negative reviewers travel from Exeter as well, and I can only guess that a good experience must have prompted these trips in the first place? Perhaps we will be disappointed one day, but to date we are very impressed with this takeaway and would recommend it to others.

Angry, aggressive lady who never gets the money right, and the kitchen have failed to ever get my orders right. When I last went in order was wrong when I unpacked it at home 15 miles away, I rang immediately and made the lady aware that I was down on 2 dishes and that I would be in for a refund the next day and got abuse hurled at me down the phone. I vowed never to eat anything from there again, and I shall be keeping my word. ON BONG you do not deserve my hard earned money.

Bought takeaway after an evening out. Food was excellent very hot and cooked fresh whilst we waited.

Went in & ordered my food. Had a 50minute wait & when I got home (30sec walk from there) my order was incorrect. I returned & stated my order was wrong & she said it was what I ordered. & as I had eaten some (which I hadn't) wasn't allowed a refund. Finally after 10mins of her being rude & argumentative towards me she gave me my money back (tried to short change me) & informed me I was barred!! Service was rude & appalled by treatment I received especially as I was new to the area. Defiantly not recommended

went in to order with £45 - placed order went to pay after owner said in very poor English that It came to £23.99 - I gave her £25 - she waited a few minutes and then said I only gave her £20 - so as far as I am concerned she stole £5 off me. I grabbed my £20 note back and told her to forget it - I guess this means I will not be going back to that take away again.I know I gave her £25 because I had just taken it out of my bank.I hate to be taken for a ride and I work with money all day long in my job.The place looked dirty and I like to see what is being cooked.

The service from the staff was great. However despite slightly over inflated prices the quality of the food was dismal. what should have been crunchy was soggy and what should have been succulent was dry.

Had a great takeaway from here whilst stay in Devon,we all had different dishes and everyone enjoyed the food. Saved me from cooking too which is always a treat,Would always go back here whilst staying in Devon.

It needs to come up to standard if I am honest. I like good food and here it's pretty average. Certainly not the best Chinese takeaway I have ever had but its not the worse either. I don't like to leave bad reviews but I am honest and if you have a choice of another place, I would go for that instead.

Food is pretty good, and was freshly prepared, and as others have said, the wait to place a telephone order was unacceptable (4 minutes in our case), but unlike some others I found the service, from the obviously hard working and harrassed lady, friendly and courteous. My only real issue is that the price is high for what is good, but not outstanding, food. Someone who can combine good food with a fast, efficient and friendly service will make a good business in Crediton - take away food shouldn't take 50 minutes from order to collection.

Having recently moved to Crediton we tried the local Takeaways. Our first experience of On Bong was not a good one, the food was extremely bland and soggy, it seemed like everything had come out of a packet and into a fryer, as 6 of us were eating at the time we had a very wide variety of things off the menu, every item was the same, and in some cases actually tasted the same, I dont expect to order S&S Pork only to find a tiny nugget of meat surrounded by 3 inches of undercooked oily soggy batter. Everyone with us that night was left very dissapointed.The second time we went, the food was late and the the lady went through the order only to discover that they had cooked a chicken dish instead of a beef dish...we explained that we ordered beef because we dont like chicken but the lady said "but we cook chicken now, you have chicken", feeling quite astonished we explained again that we did NOT order chicken and we wanted beef, to which she replied "we too busy, you have chicken". Ludicrous.We have never returned. Those rating On Bong as excellent must have very low standards for their Chinese food. That said, the other Chinese takeaways in Crediton arent much better

The Ong Bong family have got it right. Great Cantonese and Chinese food at good prices. Best to ring your order in as they are normally very busy (this of course is due to the hight quality of the food and the good value for money) We get a 'take out' at least twice a month.

I have to say On Bong was very polite and efficient upon placing the order, and the food was ready for collection at the time given. That is all the good I have to say unfortunately; we ordered chicken in garlic sauce which stated it was a spicey dish, beef with ginger and spring onions with egg fried rice and plain noodles.The rice and noodles were fine after all you can't go wrong with that, but the chicken and garlic sauce looked a clear congealed mucus mess which had absolutely no flavour let alone spice. The beef ginger and spring onions arrived in exactly the same clear congealed mucus mess as previously described, again absolutely bland and tasteless.Even the prawn crackers were stale - what's that all about?Very disapointing :(

Food that has original flavour is served here. If you like food soaked in MSG flavour enhancers avoid this fine takeaway. They serve the real deal.
