Awful food tastes like cardboard, also the landlord needs to go on a customer service course. Arrogant and does not have a clue about running a pub. Save some money and go to McDonald’s next door even that is 100% better, don’t just take my word for it look at the other reviews

I ordered steak and ale pie. This was by far the worst steak and ale pie I have eaten in my life. The crust was of a consistency that I have never seen before and tasteless. The steak was almost non existent and chopped into minute…and I mean minute pieces. Ale was ….well, I don’t know but if there was any in there I had no idea. The whole thing was a disaster. The chips were not good either and I thought the fat was possibly on the turn. I had a business guest with me so I didn’t want to complain as I didn’t want there to be any embarrassment. As this was a one off visit to the area I won’t be going back, but even if it wasn’t I wouldn’t.

Came with my family for Saturday lunch, wish i hadn’t bothered!! Although we were served quite quickly and looked after quite well, the food was awful. My sons mash was clearly instant mash, why be so lazy. I ordered the lasagne, it was very dry and had hot and cold spots so clearly microwaved. My husband got the fish, which was pale and grey, not very edible. The whole meal was pretty awful, which was such a shame as the pub itself is lovely, the place is really missing a trick here by not serving good food. Come on red lion get your act together!

Never been here before but wanted a family carvery as not had one since coming out of lockdown. Will not be coming back. 2 for £12 roast …. hard veg , flat tiny Yorkshire , mash was more like instant mash , gravy was hardly any and like water , roasts were hard on the inside. Pork was the only thing I ate. £30 for a plate of pork between three of us… You definitely get what you pay for! Will NOT be going again.

The pub itself is quite nice. The building had exposed beams and it looked a bit better than I remembered inside. The lady who served us was nice & polite and a good waitress. She was probably the best thing about our experience here. The food was shocking. I ordered a fish and chips and when I put the fork into the chips loads of fat came out of them. The fish batter was dull/grey & soggy rather than golden and crispy. On the side was mushy peas which appeared to be cheap tinned mushy peas. My wife couldn't eat her tea it was that bad. How can you get sausage & mash wrong? Our kid said he liked his tea but he only picked at it. The overall consensus was that it was the worst meal we'd ever had. Its such a shame because we dined here last year and it was really nice.

Been here today with my dad . First of all, we said we were going to get a chicken burger so we went to order it and they said they did not have burger buns , on a Saturday aswell!! Then so we decided to order a full garlic bread with cheese and chips and when it came it was just squares of bread toasted no garlic on what so ever! So it was basically just cheese and toast! Then underneath the cheese was just massive clumps of butter that knocked me sick!!

My husband and I walked into the place. Went to the bar to order. There wasn't anyone behind the bar and no sign of any staff but we waited. Then a member of staff came out from the kitchen and walked in another direction to where we were standing. I walked to the end of the bar but couldn't see any staff. There were about three tables with people sat at. Then someone was approaching us albeit they had a tray of food in hand but quite rudely walked passed us without acknowledging us. Still we waited, after serving the food she came back past us and went behind the bar so I edged up to were she was standing. (Still no acknowledgment) but I waited because she was putting money into the till. Then to my disbelief she turned her back on us and went to collect a bottle of wine and glasses. At this my husband and I turned and walked out. She didn't have the politeness to say 'sorry I will be with you shortly' in fact she did not say one word. How rude was this!

Went here in June with colleagues at lunch time. Arrived after 12 noon but chef wasn’t even there yet. Ordered several salmon meals and one lasagna. About 10 minutes after ordering we were told they had no new potatoes. When the meals arrived the fish was dry on one meal and the lasagna really dry, tasteless and stuck to the dish. Chips were average at best. The sauces we asked for brought in tiny portions. Only 3 desserts available and the chosen cheesecake was still defrosting and left a watery puddle. Overall we wouldn’t go there in a rush again.

I meet friends here as it is geographically central for us. We have visited many times before but I think this will be our last. The food is very basic although I have to say the chips were good. Two of us ordered a pot of tea. We were brought a tin tea pot with one cheap tea bag and lukewarm water. It barely made one small cup. We ordered another each later using the same cup and milk and were charged £2.25 each time. If I am driving I often order tea but have never had such a poor result. The barman was helpful and did remove one of the charges when we complained. I think we will be finding an alternative for our next meet up.

We walked into an empty pub on a Sunday lunch time, this in itself told a story. Some of our meals were fine. However, the roast beef was dreadful and couldn't even be cut with a steak knife. The gammon was so salty it was inedible. The starters took a VERY long time to come out, however the mains weren't too bad. Though when you are the only people in the pub and you've ordered starters too, the chef has had plenty of time to get mains ready...so it was a shame that our meals didn't come out all together. We'd nearly finished eating by the time my toddlers children meal came out. Some of the portions were HUGE yet other such as the plate pie and the curry were tiny. Some work certainly needs to be done on portion control. The waitress was lovely and was a real credit to the pub.

I took my wife and grandaughter for lunch and to be honest we should have gone next door to mcdonalds. At the bar, I ordered a beer to be told it was off, my second choice was also off so had to settle for a bog standard beer. My wife wanted a fruit cider and had a choice of one. My gran daughter wanted a coke and even the barmaid said it is only trickling out of the pump. Then we ordered the food to be told our first choice of breaded mushrooms was sold out. My gran daughter just wanted fish fingers with smiley faces and beans. 25 min after ordering, the waitress came over and said they are out of smiley faces so she had to have chips. We reluctantly agreed to this. When the food came, the beans were stone cold and had to be returned. The best thing about the experience was the exit door. Never to return.

Called in here with other half during my lunch. We used to visit with our children and always enjoyed it. It was busy and there were only two members of staff on who were friendly enough but very busy and under pressure. I ordered a burger and hubby ordered cheese and onion pie. When we eventually got our food, my burger was okayish...my chips were warm. His cheese and onion pie looked over cooked and had obviously been kept warm, this was obvious by the look of the beans. I would’ve normally complained but just didn’t have time.... don’t think we will try here for lunch again. Could’ve got better food next door at McDonald’s for quarter of the price.

Called in here for first time in many years with my husband for quick drink around 5pm on a weekday and it was a shock. Place was empty and first thing we spotted was the pub's large dog sprawled across the seating in the main bar area. Not against dogs by any means - have always had dogs of our own, but a dog basket on the floor would have been a much better idea. Didn't stay long due to lack of atmosphere. Think the brewery are struggling to find somebody to take this place on as there always seems to be a sign up advertising the pub is available to run. Perhaps once the new, industrial development is finished around the corner, things may improve and the pub will be back to its former glory.

On the 9th March I visited the red lion with my family. Not a good experience at all. I had to wait for 10 minutes to order the food. Then it took an hour for the food to arrive. When it did arrive my burger was pink in the middle. The gentleman who was running the whole restaurant on his own was that busy I could not tell him about my meal. As we where leaving the one and only member of staff asked how our meal was. I explained that I hadn't eaten my meal due to the meat being pink and I do not eat pink meat. He explained to me that is the way they serve it and he could assure me that it was cooked. This did not help my situation when we where leaving. No refund was offered and what should have been an enjoyable lunch definitely wasn't. Such a disappointment and we definitely won't be visiting again.

We used to visit regularly but since the change of licencee we have only been twice, both times had below average service. The most recent visit the food was very nice, although a little over priced. Service was less so. Asked for chips and got wedges that were over cooked and hard with little potato left in the middle. Apparently hand cut chips. They were sent back. I felt like the server was looking to argue about the chips then thought better of it before taking them away. One of the servers had their head on the table at the side of the bar, resting in between customers no doubt, then was very abrupt when my wife asked for a copy of the bill to check the chips had been taken off before we paid. It wasn't much to ask, they seemed to not want to deal with customers and would rather be elsewhere, perhaps asleep on the table.Won't be rushing back, there are better places with better customer manners.Shame as the food was tasty.

After visiting the Red Lion many times under previous ownership, visited for the first time since the takeover. Was disappointed to note that sandwiches are not served on sundays or after lunchtime. As I wasn't overly hungry and this would have been my choice. However, opted for cheese and onion pie. Presentation of chips and peas in separate bowls on the place with the slice of pie a little different, and taste was distinctly average to be honest bordering on bland. Another diner eating with me opted for fish and chips which came with a "unique" chunky tartare sauce-which was more akin to coleslaw. Again a little different to "standard" pub food presentation/expectation. We did opt for desserts, which to be honest were excellent. Highly recommended for desserts-perhaps this is the chefs speciality? A minor bugbear during the meal was some of the party had finished eating, and others hadn't, but plates were cleared away. I found this a little rude.Would revisit and try another dish from the menu, but wont rush back - would be more a convenience visit as its fairly local to me.

I ordered the cheese pie and when it came it was the saddest plate of food I have ever seen, the chips were white and thin not the nice Brown chunky ones that the next table had, when I asked why mine were not like that I was told that they were 50pence extra but nowhere on the menu did it say that and at£9.85 , the pie was solid as though it had been warmed up and the pastry was soggy, the peas were ok. There wasn't any cutlery on the table so we had to ask for them and when they came they were just put into the middle of the table and then we got our own napkins. One person asked for mushy pea instead of garden peas but we're given garden peas even though again she had paid 50pence extra for them, but she was happy with her meal. I could go on but I think You will have got the gist.

Took my sister and son. 3 course special for £15 per person. Didn't disappoint.I had the that fishcakes - gorgeous.Sister had prawn cocktail - as she said 'just cos u don't see this on menus now' and my son had the latest fad superfood - blk pudding (stacked with other bits). All served in a timely fashion and with a smile. We all enjoyed it all. Main courses Gammon for my meat mad son. Fish an chips for my sister and I had steak. All cooked perfectly and without waiting too long. Most of the tables were busy but we still got served quickly.Love this place, they do good pub food very well.

Had not been in for a while so decided to drop in for Sunday lunch , it looked like there had been a refurbishment since last visit . The new décor and furniture were noticeable and an improvement , My father pointed out a new diners deal for customers with small appetites ,two courses for £7.95 so we gave it a go and had the roast beef dinner followed by fruit crumble and custard, it was just up our street and just the right size so The Red Lion is back Sunday lunch list. Worth a visit .

I have been here in the past and was disappointed. After hearing it had new owners we decided to give it another go as its ideally situated for us being close to home. The welcome from the barman was friendly and the pub was warm and inviting with a roaring open fire. There is a great deal of ales and wines to choose from and the menu offers up some good deals. The food was typical pub grub but was hot fresh and well presented. This may not be the cheapest pub fare around but it's certainly worth a visit best fish and chips I've had in a long time thoroughly enjoyed my visit, will definitely be back.

I decided to give my mum a break this year and take her out for Christmas Dinner instead of having to slave away in the kitchen all day. I've been to the red lion many times and the food is always great, hence why I chose to return - however, it wasn't as great as it could have been. The portions were incredibly tiny and at £55 a head I expected a lot more than a "slice" of Christmas pudding. At the end they did not offer us the coffee, schnapps or mince pie, and we heard a lot of complaints several times from the table next to us. It's a lovely place to go, perhaps over priced but I'd still go again, just not for Christmas dinner.

My husband booked a table in the restaurant for our wedding anniversary. All glammed up, we arrived, to find the restaurant in darkness. We explained at the bar we had a table booked, but was told to sit anywhere, among the regulars, no explanation why the restaurant was closed. So we tried to find a quiet corner. We found a seat but there was a dog sat near us that obviously suffered from fleas and flatulence. Completely ruined what was meant to be a special meal. When we written a letter to complain to the pub/restaurant, they replied, implying it was our fault, as we hadn't told them it was for an anniversary. Pathetic! Why should I have to explain the reason why I want to sit in their restaurant for a meal. If I wanted a bog standard pub meal, I wouldn't book a table. Never going there again. I will tell all friends, family and anyone else that may be considering a visit, to go elsewhere.

Chose the venue as a convenient place to meet a colleague after work. Plenty of parking and easy to locate from the motorway. Both bar and waiting staff were incredibly cheerful and helpful in their service. I ordered the cheese pie with chips and peas. I was disappointed to find it had been microwaved resulting in the outer crust being hard and inedible. A well maintained pub with nice furnishings. I chose the pie thinking it would be a non microwaveable option! Portion sizes were generous, the chips n peas were nice but not in a rush to go back. The meal cost £8.95 which was reasonable for pub grub but quality certainly didn't meet expectation

we have just been to this pub/restraunt nice surroundings very good staff we ate in the pub part and really enjoyed our choices, the starter of prawn and salmon was well presented and was large. We chose cheese and onion pie and plate meat pie both had lovely pastry and full of the fillings. This pub was recently refurbished and has lost non of the friendliness that we have always found here. They do theme nights and we have been to a private party here before the refurb and have always left happy. Many thanks to you all.

Went on a Thursday teatime. Ordered from the Diamond menu, two courses for £7.95, which offered smaller portions and they weren't joking. Portions okay for someone watching their diet. Food was average, starters came fairly quickly but there was a good half hour in between finishing them and the mains being served, I found this odd as there was very few people eating.

Nice welcome and nice surroundings and was able to take the dogs in to the pub part.We were seated by a very helpful young man and menus were given and a drinks order taken.I fancied the roast beef and my husband went for the roast ham dinner. The beef was tender although there were only two thin slices one Yorkshire that looked suspiciously like a frozen one. mange tout, peas, and a very small cauliflower floret. There were roast and boiled potatoes awash with a bland tepid gravy.I don't like gravy being put on my food I like to put on the amount that I want.My husband had the ham dinner same accompaniments also with lashing of gravy !!!! not it may be subjective but I don't agree that gravy goes with ham. He said the ham was tasty but spoilt by the gravy. We should have said something from the off about the temp and the gravy. When I went to pay i said you did ask if the meal was okay but we really did not enjoy it for the above reasons. She said I will feed back to the kitchens they like to get feed back mention it next time you are in. I said as we live in Morecambe i don't know if there will be a next time. i am biased as I think that i make an excellent roast dinner with very tasty gravy so perhaps should not opt for this when I go out as i am usually disapointed. you can never have too much veg on this meal and if you are going to smother my food in tepid thin gravy please make sure it tastes of something.

We visited the Red Lion for the first time yesterday. We hadn't seen the pub before its recent refurb, but it is now beautiful!. Warm log burners and a really cosy feel to the place, you can really feel at home! The menu is mainly pub grub (except for the tapas menu) which is reasonably priced. We opted for the set meal which was £7.99 for two courses and £9.99 for three. The meals on this menu are a little smaller than the main menu but for a lunch time, it was definitely enough. I ordered the prawn and salmon cocktail which is small but just enough as it arrived with a slab of brown bread (* note to staff - don't serve butter straight from the fridge!). My other half had the garlic mushrooms (which he felt could have had a few more mushrooms on) but again for the price, its not bad. I had the battered fish and chips which was a very acceptable portion size. The batter on the fish was really crispy and fresh. The other main ordered was sausages with mash and onion gravy which came as a good serving of mash with 2 large sausages, this was also very good (so I'm told). The entire bill with drinks came to £17. I will definitely go back and maybe try something of the main menu in an evening.

Visited on the weekend for lunch. What a lovely experience. The staff were friendly, polite and attentive. The place has a lovely feeling to it.The food was very nice. Plenty of choice on the menu and specials board, and nice to see Spanish style dishes. We had the Paprika Chicken and the Black Pudding starters and then Butterfly Chicken and Steak & Mushroom pie. The Paprika Chicken was lovely, just a little more paprika needed - this is personal taste though. My husband enjoyed the pie, but stated that strangely it had too much meat and not enough mushroom. Again, personal taste and not any disrespect to the establishment. We couldn't manage a dessert. A two course meal was approx £11.25 each, and well worth every penny. Crockery and cutlery were clean - which makes a change from other places we have visited. The toilets are certainly family friendly with the child seat adapter. Just little things and efforts made make such a difference!
