Brown Hill Chippy in Blackburn with Darwen

I did a telephone order for 4 people and came into the shop to pick it up, and when i arrived i asked to make the 1 portion of large chips into 2 portions of large chips. The man serving me then asked how many people it’s for, i said 4 people he then didn’t listen and asked if thats enough for just me. I said yes, it’s for 4 people. He was then asking personal questions about if i’m in school today or not, how old I am and what school i go to. I feel very offended by this and just wanted to share my experience.

Excellent food at a good price. This is now my go to Chinese Chippy.

Best chicken n sweetcorn soup I have ever had. Food in general was amazing. First time I have been, will defo go again.

Local chippy and it's the best around! Gravy is thick and tasty, peas are the right consistency to be called 'mushy' and the chips are plentiful! Only downside for me is that they are cash only, so I have to make a trip to the cash point first.

10/10 best chippy chips and good quality fish, the Chinese food is the best for miles too, love the BBQ sauce they do and the Peking duck is very good

Eveytime I go in this chippy they are really lovely and pleasant to there customers they cook there food from fresh for you .

Normally the service and food is really good, however when you order something and it’s incorrect, call and get told to take it back and then get the incorrect food again it’s a bit of a joke😵‍💫 rest of my food is cold, busy or not the attitude of staff and the food should be good and correct.

These are some of the best chips I have ever had from a chip shop I get them on a regular basis and enjoy them every time I would 100% recommend them to anyone who wants proper smashing chips.

I always check reviews in a town I don’t know well. The fish and chips were cooked fresh and delicious, recommended I will call again. 👍

As a regular customer, usually once or twice per month I feel able to advise on our experiences, which are always excellent. Salt & Pepper king prawns (prepared in panko not a heavy batter) are to die for. Chicken fried rice is cooked to order as it was tonight, add in some Prawn toast and you’ve got change from £20.00. No gimmicks, just good solid service and awesome food.

So far this is our favourite chippy since moving house to this area. The mushy peas are gorgeous and are the right consistency and taste The fish are lightly battered and always spot on The chips have a very nice taste to them And you get a good portion You can park outside but when it’s busy traffic it can be a task !

This is the best Chinese food I have ever had. It is consistently good. I look forward every week to my Chinese banquet on Friday. The owners, Chris and Mai are the most delightful people you could ever wish to meet. If you just want fish and chips, you won't be disappointed, these are fantastic too!!

Had take-away last night and wanted to change slightly from menu. Very obliging and food was delicious. Polite and friendly.

Two friends arrived unexpectedly and hungry. As I had the Brownhill Chippy menu to hand we telephoned through and ordered 1 Chicken in onions. 1 Chicken in blackbean and pepper sauce, and 1 Chicken balls as mains and 2 main meals of rice with veg., as sides. At first I thought that the bill (£25.10) was a bit steep, however I was mistaken..... as the food was all passed by my guests as excellent....and the portions were huge. So as each meal was around a fiver apiece the value was also amazing for the quality and quantity. The three of us left the dinner table " stuffed to the rafters." And content. Thanks to the staff and chef at Brownhill Chippy.

Always excellent food and service whether chippy tea or chinese. Does not take too long if you call in but usually really if you pre- order Wish you delivered !!

I called in for a single battered fish and was not disappointed ! The portion was a good size but, most impressively the cod was beautiful and sweet and juicy and the batter crisp and dry ! To be fair, my fish was cooked to order and I waited four minutes for it to be done - I recommend this to anyone. Many battered fish are greasy and the fish itself “mushy” - sometimes a problem from chip shops freezing themselves if not sold at a sitting. It is common in these circumstances for the batter on the underside to be soggy and greasy and stick to the grease-proof paper. No my batter ! Crispy and dry and well worth a five star rating.

Amazing food at very good prices. Always fresh and always a friendly greeting on arrival. Have phoned for orders too and the food is always hot when I take it home. I highly recommend anyone who fancies either Chinese food or original chippy food to come try. You won't be disappointed

Great chippy with loads of choice - really friendly owners and good value.

Called on Friday a couple of weeks ago for chips 2 fish and a carton of peas at tea time to take out. It does not have any seating. Service was excellent, the fish was very white and the batter crispy, Normal portions of chips were large. Will be calling again once the adjacent road works have been completed.

Great portions and range of choice

Recently moved near this chippy and the family wanted takeaway after a hard days work of unpacking. We definitely chose the right place! I was served by a lovely lady with long brown hair tied up (wish i caught her name!) Despite the chippy being busy and only one staff member behind the counter, service was as quick as possible and she was really attentive and nice. Food was still hot when I got home because it has been wrapped so well. It was delicious and the kids were asking for more haha. Will definitely go back after the next hard days work.

Had a great takeaway from here last week. Brilliant that it doubles up as a Chinese. Good price compared to other chip shops and Chinese in the area. Remember to bring cash as they don't take card!

Ideal if you live close for a quick easy chippy but would not be the first place to come to mind. The quality of the food can vary from the worst chips I have ever had to the best salt and pepper chicken.

Chinese takeaway serving the usual type of food. Visited 3 times now and hoped it would improve as it is just down the road from me. Chinese dishes are claggy and chips are greasy. Won't be going back.

Very good English menu, can't comment on the Chinese as I've never had it. Find the staff a little off but never have to spend long in there so not a big issue.

Brilliant English fish and chips... Ask for lightly battered fish and will cook to order. Had a Chinese beef curry and a mushroom and onion curry las week. Best tasting curry in the area. Highly recommended.

Probably one of the worst Chinese meals I've ever had to endure. As a treat for myself and my daughter, we decided to go for a mixed starter for two and a portion of egg fried rice and sweet & sour chicken balls. Upon unwrapping our first parcel, we couldn't decide whether to use the gigantic spring rolls as door stoppers or attempt to try them. Unfortunately we took the plunge and tucked in only to be overwhelmed by a strong perfumed aroma ( possibly star anise?) and completely no taste whatsoever. Next, we uncovered the foil dish containing charcoal, dry 'BBQ' ribs and managed to get them down with some water. Again, the ribs were utterly tasteless. Hiding a surprise underneath the ribs was an array of oiled, scrappy chicken wings-can simply say 'foul'. How can you go wrong with a mountain of 'prawn' toast. Well you could replace the prawn with thick tasteless egg? Starters aside, and I mean pushed aside, sweet & sour chicken 'balls'. Strangest looking balls I've ever laid eyes on. I think they may have been chicken dippers, although I say dippers, they had been plunged and not dipped, rather soaked and saturated with soggy, sloppy batter and oil, which oozed onto the plate. On a positive note the prawn crackers were ok. We both feel sick now, literally, and only sampled the meal, the bin enjoyed the rest. We are off for a 3 mile walk now, in the dark and rain, in the hope of ridding our bodies of this poison.

Excellent fish and chips at a great price, also very friendly staff will be returning, I love my fish and chips but the misses loves a deep fried sausage which they were very happy to do
