Fantastic food and excellent service at this friendly pub at the top of the high street. Simple menu, nothing fussy, and good hearty food. Only mains and desserts available and I'd definitely recommend pre-booking; walk ins were being turned away as they were already full with bookings. We go here every time we're in Wells-next-the-Sea, it's fantastic! Child's menu also available. **Update: returned again this week (19th Aug 2024) and still fantastic as ever!

As I've said before a great traditional pub that also does food. Nothing fancy but a good meal in a lovely pub setting.

The food & Service in the restaurant was excellent but the bar staff need to go to training school or at least get some manners ! Went twice last week, had 3 or 4 pints the first time, the only time I wasn't ignored was when I was the only person at the bar . You get no acknowledgement from any of the bar staff. I asked for a sample of Wherry first time in on this holiday , not a word spoken by the older guy who served me , customer next to me joking said he wanted a sample of his larger,not a word from bar staff. The young lad with curly hair I just found generally cocky , if there were locals at the bar he would serve them fist , don't know what the Norfolk word for Grockle is but that's the way I was treated, absolutely no acknowledgement, and when serving lime and Soda water, ask If people want ice first and there's a correct order to put in the glass, absolutely no communication other than to tell me the price. Last week my wife and I visited again, and despite four people being behind the bar one being a waitress who are brilliant and we tipped previously , I was totally ignored despite standing In front of the young man with curly hair for a good five minutes or more. The one lady was sorting glasses despite me waiting no problem I thought, until she finishes and despite looking at me at least 3 times she proceeded to serve someone else , the young man then heads to the opposite end of the bar to serve a local. Having worked in the service sector for many years I tend to be very patient, but on this occasion I left in a huffing as I'm not prepared to be treated like the Cornish once called a Grockle. The waitress staff apologised !! Said they would have a word with manager. We didn't eat there and I haven't been back over the two weeks I've been here. PS: I been to the pub before when I've visited passing through, bar staff were just the same then ! You have lost a lot of money this fortnight ( bar staff) !

Great pub with lovely food, staff pleasant and friendly, make sure you book.

My wife and I had a breakfast in there one egg one sausage few beans a few mushrooms two slices of bacon it cost us £27 what a joke disgusting I will never go in that place ever again

Ollie’s is a great place to have a fabulous lunch away from the crowds in Wells. My son and I had the beer battered fish with cheesy chips and, we were both in absolute heaven! We would come back for those fish and cheesy chips! The tartar sauce was delicious, and the mushy peas were wonderfully seasoned! My daughter had the sausage, gammon and egg. Absolutely cleared her plate. My husband had a sausage and relish (?) toastie that he really enjoyed as well. The restaurant is clean, friendly and all the staff are just nothing short of lovely.

Would not recommend. Typical pub grub menu. Cannot order drinks from the table, you have to go to the bar first. Not prepared to fight our way to the crowded bar, so we left. Plentyof other good eating places in Wells

Just had Sunday lunch at Ollie’s, joined to the Edinburgh at Wells Next the Sea. 2 Roast Pork and a sharing seafood platter. Pork was well flavoured and tender and was accompanied by well cooked but not mushy vegetables. The sharing seafood platter was exceptional, so much seafood that we had to ask the waitress to pack the leftovers for supper. The chips were the best I’ve had for some time. Service was good, friendly quick and polite. Will we go back, you bet we will!!

Had two meals here this week whilst on holiday, both were excellent value for money. Will definitely return. Tuesdays waitress was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Thank you 😊

This was the first time we'd been to Ollie's. I had lunch with my family; husband, daughter and granddaughter. My husband had fish and chips which he said was delicious. My granddaughter chose sausage and mash in a yorkshire pudding which she couldn't finish. My daughter and I shared a seafood platter which was lovely. The smoked mackerel was the best I've ever had. Service was a bit slow but Ollie's was busy.

Often overlooked but if you are looking for great food for all the family then this is for you. Loads of space and generous portions.

Popped in new years eve for a few pints and a bite to eat, both the beer and food were excellent! (Especially the white chocolate cheesecake!)

Ordered cheese and onion toasted Sandwiches . Only wholemeal or white bread But the sandwich looked as if my oldest Granny had made it. Thin cheap sliced bread inside a very thin filling of cheese and onion and the garnish one round slice of cucumber few strips of lettuce Quarter of a small tomato. £6 . Very Bland . The coffee and the chips were fine.

Can’t recommend enough. They were busy but managed to fit us in. The lamb shank was absolutely perfect. As was the stew in a yorkie. Really friendly and accommodating. We’ve already decided what we will have tomorrow! probs won’t even look anywhere else.

Called book at table left message nobody got back, carried on to restaurant any how ordered Lasagna and Yorkshire with stew Lasagna sent straight back straight out of the microwave swimming in fat. So tried another Yorkshire Stew which was hot meat was tender, but the gravey made the Yorkshire wet and unedable so all in all a complete waste. Not a great night

Staff were lovely which is why I didn't complain why my lasagne was overcooked and looked like it had been dropped onto the floor. Although my partners lasagne looked beautiful and tasted great. Great beers too such as the local Woodfords wherry. Would've rated it 5 stars if it was more consistent

Went here for lunch today, haven't been here before as just visiting. Had the fish and chips, wasn't great, the batter on the fish was greasy, the chips a bit under cooked and not alot of flavour, so gad to put alot of salt on, so didn't eat it all, but pleasant enough surroundings.

Staff polite and welcoming. Good portion sizes compared to other places to eat in the area. Burgers were good quality and tasty. Seabass and the ham, egg and chips were large portions. Lasagne was also good. Chips on on the meals were a little basic. Only downside is no table service for drinks - you have to go to the bar at the other end of the pub. Pricing is £3-£4 per meal higher than what you would expect, but, comparable to other pubs and resterants in the area.

Got my Rump Steak meal.Cooked just as requested nothing to wash up. £10.00 less than others advertised prices!!

It didn't live up to the reviews, for us. Couldn't find our booking to start with, luckily they weren't busy and we got seated in the Lifeboat Room fairly quickly. Photos on the wall were lovely, the rest if the decor was more akin to a child's play room or a school cafeteria...not a quaint English pub. Food menu was as per the reviews, and the order was taken quickly but without any pleasantries! Drinks are only available at the bar, no waiter/waitress service. Food arrived fairly quickly and was fine, but nothing more. I wouldn't describe it as typical pub food...most pubs can far exceed this standard, for much less. Overall a very disappointing visit and I doubt we would return nor recommend to friends.

The bar is clean and comfortable with good selection of beers. The restaurant is basic in furnishing but the food is excellent.

It was ok. Average food. Looks fab but disappointing on flavour. The sort of thing easy done at home for a lot less cash. Staff friendly. Quick service. The sea food plater .well the salad was fresh looked fab but felt the sea food was a disappointment. Could get from Tesco in a packet. The fish and chips. The fish was ok a good size. The batter on the fish was crispy with some flavour. Chips were ok. Mushy peas for mushy peas not much flavour but they are ok.

I think the rating depends what you are after. For a couple after food I would rate lower and there are nicer places within seconds, for a family, a 3 is fine. We go as it’s a good spot for the entire family with all the nieces and nephews. The staff are fantastic, the beer isn’t bad (better elsewhere) although the food is pretty average/below average. Saying that, I’m sure we will go again as it’s quick and we feel OK there as a kid heavy group!

Food was lovely, as were the restaurant staff. The barman was rude, clearly doesn't like holiday makers.

Excellent family meal in Ollie's, we had the biggest sea bass fillets I've ever seen, plus lasagne, fish pie, sausages & scampi, all perfectly cooked with great service as always.

Really tasty and generously portioned meals. Managed to squeeze us in even though they were busy which we really appreciated and the meals were served promptly which is why I gave five stars.

Stayed at the Edinburgh Inn for two nights in September and it couldn't have been nicer. Great location, lovely food and cheerful, helpful staff and great rooms for the price. Already booked to stay again.

Had a lovely meal here with family. Good choice on menu. Menu written on blackboard to cater for Covid rules. Value for money dishes, quick service by friendly and efficient staff. Reccomend a visit!

Very basic menu, staff very unwelcoming we may have left a tip if they'd maybe cracked a smile. No dining experience what so ever certainly won't visit again.

Friendly staff and great food which is good value for money

Can't go wrong with this place. Staff were lovely and attentive, and the food was brilliant. Vegetables were fresh and the fish (the sea bass and battered cod) was perfect. Great value for money and would definitely come here again.

Just eaten a very nice seafood platter and lemon meringue iced slice here. Portion size is generous. Staff are friendly, restaurant us bright and airy. The prices reflect good value.

Pie would of been lovely , had it not been microwaved . Really not very nice . Staff ( young girl) not very friendly , seemed staff were not happy at their job 🙄

Not a fancy place, but it was clean and the staff were friendly. Between us we had crab salad, sea bass, scampi and fish and chips, all were very good and decent sized portions, and my veg (peas carrots and broccoli) was done just right. And the drinks were reasonably priced too, the bill came to less than I expected!

Really nice great service excellent prices and lovely food. Also very covid safe staff ensuring tables always wiped down and good spacing between them.

Terrible service by very rude woman, made us feel incredibly unwelcome. Food was expensive and of poor quality fish was clearly frozen, defrosted and well past it's best. Tiny ramekin of peas, just over a fork full. It was the only place we could get a table and now we know why. A shame really as it's a nice building and could make a lovely restaurant.

Decent food at a reasonable price. Beef burger was delicious but fell apart. Welcoming staff and good choice of beers, cider and other drinks.

The menu is really great and what comes out of the kitchen is just as impressive but most of all, the staffs and the service they offer here is just so heartwarming. The staffs are so warm and amazing. Always full of slimes and making sure you are having a lovely time. And that you are happy with the service you are receiving. An that all is okay. Really really love it here and cannot recommend it enough

Good pub food. A little chaotic booking a table with a dog as certain tables designated for them but perhaps not all know this and just before 'freedom day' so no bad comments. 👍

Dropped in for a bite to eat while in the area. Had a massive Yorkshire pudding filled with stew with huge chunks of beef. Enjoyed it very much!

Excellent food and service once again, we had sea bass, scampi, lasagne, and burgers, all were perfect, with the last two made 'in house' - we wouldn't eat anywhere else in Wells next the Sea!

Staff very attentive,wife liked her lasagne,I had the fish, chips and mushy peas which were very nice. No complaints.

Food is edible at best, 'chef' should consider ditching the microwave. My partner said I could cook better and that's saying something 😂 Bit surprised at the other reviews not sure how genuine they are.

There was a guy putting butter on his toast with a folk and the waitress kept dropping the drinks I ordered and she got sent to hospital from all the broken glass

Good wholesome food , friendly staff. Been using this restaurant for many years and will continue.

On arrival we had a lot of staff walk past us with out saying a word to us. We stod around for some time with out knowing where to go. When we finally got seated our drink order was taken when it was brought to the table the member of staff had no mask or face shield. I was horrified this didn't happen to just our table but to others who were older than us. In a time like this when so many businesses are closing down because of Covid 19 this is very sloppy. Im sure this is just a over site but it wasn't good. The food got the 3 stars but i wouldn't eat there again.

Brilliant Food, hard working staff, warm welcome, highly recommended.

The lasagne was the best, you could see the chopped onions in the thick beef tomato sauce. Also the bread and butter pudding was made with proper thick slices of bread, with custardy filling. Superbly made and cooked food.
