We always enjoy coming to Ollerton and the food and service today was excellent as usual. Many places boast about home cooking, but Ellen and Kate Mettam give you genuinely freshly made meals and baking. Our salads were generously filled and our desserts were out of this world. The service is very friendly and efficient. It was a treat to pay Ollerton a visit again, and I wish we lived closer! (Lynn and Simon Barber, Uttoxeter)

We booked for an afternoon tea yesterday and it was lovely. The beautifully fresh sandwiches came with a very nice side salad, and all of the little cakes and scones were delicious. Vey nice friendly service too. We had tried to get a table a couple of weeks earlier but it was fully booked, and we can see why! We will definitely try to visit here again when we are in the area. I think the lemon meringue pie will be next....

We were staying with friends and having a day out when we dropped in for tea, we hadn't booked but within 5 minutes we had a table by the window looking out over the mill gardens - lovely. We had a cream tea 3 huge scones of different tastes loads of strawberry jam and thick double cream also pots of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. All absolutely superb. The waitress was excellent (run off her feet) but well in control and very friendly, the behind the scenes ladies did a miraculous job dish washing, making up the orders and even finding time time to bake more scones. My only problem is that I live in Cyprus so can't get there more often but then again I would have to have more self control or I'd be like a rolly poly dumpling if I was there as often as I would like. Thank you lovely ladies for an afternoon I will remember forever.

What a little gem this place is. We have just had an amazing prosecco afternoon tea. Lovely fresh sandwiches of our choice, followed by an abundance of light and delicious cakes, and warm jam and cream scones, all served with our hot drinks of choice. The tea shop is a small and intimate venue, and the service is great. It is immaculately clean. I can't recommend it enough, and we will be back over soon. Thank you to the staff for a lovely afternoon.

Excellent afternoon tea booked by my daughter for a Mothers Day treat. What a treat it was. An array of sandwiches, scones and cakes and as much tea as we could drink. Lovely tea room with excellent food. The cakes were moist and delicious as was everything. They were so busy but that didn’t detract from the service or the food. So inexpensive too, much superior to many afternoon teas that cost much more. Definitely recommended

We popped in here on the off-chance as we came to see the mill and found there was a tea-shop here as well. We arrived around 3pm and asked if they had any availability, the lady who assisted us was super helpful but explained there was around a 20 minute wait, as we hadn't booked. It was raining outside so we decided to wait the 20 minutes, what a good call that was! As we waited, a couple of other guests left and I joked with one of the ladies that I "hoped it was worth waiting for", she said to me that we would love it, the place was a real gem. After waiting for around 15 minutes (that flew by after looking at the old photos and reading all about the history of the place), we were shown upstairs to our seat. It was smaller than expected upstairs but the service (friendly/attentive) and the food (beautifully homemade and super fresh) just blew us away. We went for the afternoon tea, with a choice of tea or coffee, choice of sandwich then a selection of homemade cakes and scones. I know this may sound silly, it's just sandwiches and cakes/scones but I cannot tell you how lovely and fresh they were. My wife and I have had afternoon cream teas at many places over the years, all over the country, Michelin starred etc but we both agreed that the afternoon tea here at Ollerton Watermill Teashop was the best, no question. If you can get here and get a table, do it, you will not regret it.

Waited a while to have our order taken. Had afternoon tea and asked if we wanted tea or fizz first and we opted for tea, and they gave one of our group the wrong type of tea. Staff gave no eye contact as they walked around, didn’t notice when we had finished our tea and were ready for our glass of fizz...very difficult trying to get their attention! One of our group asked for orange juice and were given half a glass as they’d run out but were promised the rest as they were going the shop...this never materialised! We’d finished and we’re asked if we wanted the rest of our cakes to take away, which we did. Bagged up but never presented the bill. Couldn’t get any staffs attention to ask for the bill so had to go up and ask for it. 15 mins later the waitress was getting napkins, drinking a coke in the back etc...but still no bill. We all got up to go and ask to pay the bill feeling pretty neglected. Bill was incorrect but we were so frustrated we paid do we could just get out of there.

But anyway let's get down to the quality off the food in question , if you want starters you could have the soup which is very nice my favourite is the tomato and basil it is s full bodied soup with lots of flavour and you get a nice warm bread roll with it as well to soak up the bits in the bowl ,let's be right about it you can not leave anything it's that good, other things are available as well for starters .

We are staying at a cottage in Ollerton for a wedding later in the week and decided to go to the water mill tea shop for lunch since it was virtually next door to the cottage. It's a tiny quite village so we were so surprised when we went and and found it full with no tables available. So we booked a table for an hour later and must say lunch was delicious. My jacket potato was loaded with tuna, cheese and onion and came with a very sizeable mixed salad including strawberry, pineapple and grape and was reasonably priced. Since it's so close I am hoping to go back and try the trifle I saw or the scones which all looked delicious.

We decided to call in on our way back, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We queued for ages to be served, but one look at the scones on offer told me it would be worth it. The place is very popular for all the food on offer, and it all looked delicious. Luckily it was good weather so we were able to sit outside, but there isn’t a lot of inside space. Luckily they had plain scones which I prefer to fruit and they were lovely and a decent size. Delicious jam and clotted cream. I love my cream tea and I would place this in my top three, but not top. There is a table for two in the entrance hall which is quieter and cooler sometimes but the tables upstairs are comfortable and plentiful. Some overlook the water course which flows under the mill. The service is excellent and polite, and the food home cooked by Ellen and Kate makes your mouth water. The Quiches are fantastic and the Pavlova is not to be missed. If you prefer cake then there is an excellent selection of mouth watering offerings. I once heard someone ask for a small slice of cake to which they were answered " we don't do small here". Once you have tried this wonderful haven you are sure to return to experience the bright and clean surroundings and try out other offerings. Tasty and generous portions all round. Proper tea pots and cups with saucers, as would be expected for such a genteel clientele! Puddings were brilliant and home made with loads of marangue, whipped cream and lemon. We had ordered a birthday cake and this was brought out with candles lit by the actual cook. This all had a lovely homely atmosphere, nothing pretentious or snobbish, but get there soon as they close for Winter On 26th of Nov. Quality was exceptional and service very attentive. It’s a cosy tea room but disabled be aware it is upstairs with no lift. Loos need a trip back down the stairs, but the building is ancient and to modify for current H&S; would spoil it. Ollerton Water Mill Teashop is situated upstairs amid very pleasant surroundings. It is clean and bright. We visited on a Friday mid-afternoon. It was very busy, which we thought was probably a good sign. We ordered two toasted teacakes and two lattes which totalled £6.90 and were immediately disappointed. The teacakes were very, very light in texture with minimal dried fruit, reminiscent of a supermarket budget line and the latte, whilst very hot, was bordering on being undrinkable. To me it tasted of licorice and possessed no aroma at all which suggests that either it was cheap instant coffee, or was cheap ground coffee, or had been kept hot for way, way too long. In the kitchen there is a coffee filter machine so I assume either (or both) of the last two options to be true. From the window, it's possible to see the river which feeds the water mill, but sadly this was roped off. Shame!

A small mill on a river in a pleasant location with freshly baked food and great quality. We had the cheese on toast as a snack, delicious. Lunch starts from noon, quiche freshly baked as with the gammon and a good choice of food and sandwiches. It is up a flight of stairs with no disabled access as it forms part of an old mill, although the stairs are wide and wooden so easy to get up with rails. Gardens outside look out on to small river. Worth the stop.

We lived in the area for a few years and never knew there was a water mill. We visited on a very wet day and the stream leading from the mill was a raging torrent. Free Off Street Parking is a short walk away. The restaurant is upstairs over the mill so be prepared for mounting the steps. The mill wheel and stream is visible behind glass downstairs. The tea shop is small and cramped and we were advised that it is best to book as we were lucky to get a seat and it was only the inclement weather that stopped it being full. Seating and decoration is fairly basic. Credit cards were not accepted at the time of reviewing.

Visited the superb Ollerton Tea Mill today and as always was not disappointed, in fact I have visited regularly over the last 12 years and have never once been disappointed. The food is fresh, homemade, good portions, priced right, the setting is idylic, quaint, picture perfect with a view over the river I never get tired of. As it is so popular, it is often busy but it is always worth any wait ! The only downside, well the standard is so high, it has spoilt me to eat anywhere else, nowhere ever is quite as good, long may it continue.

My husband and i made two bookings on my birthday for this tearoom. We drove all the way down from West Yorkshire to visit there and Sherwood Forest visitor centre. On arriving for our first meal, it became clear that our booked table had been given to someone else, so we were placed on one of the worst tables. Then 2 couples came in without bookings and were given superior tables. We came back at 3.30 for a cream tea and were left standing for around 10 minutes despite there being an empty table, which just needed cleaning. Then we were left for 20 more minutes without making an order, whilst the staff just ignored us. Finally someone realised we were just sitting there. I asked for a cream tea and was told there probably wouldn't be enough for me to have one. After checking 3 times we eventually discovered it would be another 20 minutes before they were ready. We declined to stay, as altogether we would have been waiting for 50 minutes. The place was chaotic and only one overworked girl seemed to be doing anything. I feel completely let down and it spoiled my birthday. What was the point in booking, when people who just walk in off the street seem to be treated better. They really need to do better!

Had heard great reports about this venue and certainly seemed very popular during our visit today. Food nice, venue small but accommodating. Staff ok, could be the friendlier!

I recently went for lunch with my friend and had a wonderful meal, the food was all fresh and home cooked, beautifully served with good portion size, the afternoon teas looked amazing and will be trying those next time. The staff were very friendly and attentive, on the top of all that the prices are very good.

We visited here last weekend and had a very average afternoon tea, it really was nothing special with only 1 choice of sandwich variety. The cream was a little odd maybe whipped and a little too synthetic rather than what tasted like fresh double cream. I definitely wouldn't bother again for afternoon tea. The tea room and surroundings are delightful. maybe just a wrong menu choice.

I had an enjoyable lunch here today, panini with brie, ham and cranberry, served with coleslaw, beetroot and a salad of leaves, tomato, onion, strawberry, melon and grapes which is a combination I've not had before, but works! This cost £5.25 which is very good value. I would say the tearoom accommodates approx. 30 people. They do get busy so you should ring and book. Oh, they don't take payment by cards so make sure you have cash!

We had afternoon tea for three people. Sandwiches were excellent as were the scones served with jam and cream, the cakes just melted in the mouth. Couldn't fault anything but would advise booking so as not to be disappointed. The setting is perfect and the water just makes it a perfect place to rest a while!

The staff here are fantastic and over the years we have NEVER seen them treat customers with anything other then friendly good manners and courtesy. I have just read 2 negative reviews on here that left me a bit suspicious. One reviewer said they called in on the off chance at the end of November and were ignored, well maybe the staff were dealing with people who had bothered to read how popular this venue is and had booked a table. More suspiciously is a really poor review from someone claiming to have visited 3rd January 2017. In all the years we have been visiting we have never known the Mill to be open for trade at this time of year as they traditionally close from late November before re-opening in March for Mothers day.

Was travelling through the village of Ollerton, when we saw these tea rooms, so we thought we would pop in for a light snack. Although I appreciate that this has a lot of very good reviews and I would properly say it's a nice place, but unfortunately we never got to experience it, from the rude staff making us feel un welcome. We walked out as I stand care to be spoke down to the way we were. I have emailed there Facebook page, no response. Very rude people.

Cakes and Scones Served as well. The tea shop is very popular and with the grounds and river flowing by. Has glass viewing platform to view how water still currently runs under the building forming part of the "Mill House" . The food and lunches are of EXCEPTION QUALITY. Nothing more needs to be said, OUTSTANDING. OPEN MARCH TO NOVEMBER - WEDNESDAY TO SUNDAY -
