Olivo in City of London, Westminster

Desafortunadamente nuestra cena en Olivo fue muy decepcionante, por decir lo menos. Queríamos probar la cocina sarda ya que el menú sonaba muy prometedor, así que estábamos deseando nuestra cena. Después de pedir nuestras bebidas recibimos una selección gratuita de pan y aceite de oliva. El pan era normal, nada especial. Para empezar pedimos el carpaccio de pez espada y paquetes de pasta rellenos de ternera en un caldo claro llamado culurgioneddus. Cuando se sirvió el carpaccio nos dimos cuenta de la cantidad excesiva de aceite de oliva que se echaba encima del pescado. Esto está mal, ya que domina completamente el delicado sabor del pescado crudo. Verdaderamente, deberíamos haberlo devuelto inmediatamente y solicitado un reemplazo con solo unas cuantas gotas de aceite de oliva en la parte superior como se sirve habitualmente. Así que este es nuestro error. Los paquetes de pasta estaban bien, el relleno estaba un poco seco y el caldo tenía un sabor indefinible de hierbas o especias, realmente no puedo decir lo que era, pero nunca había probado nada así antes. Pero en general era un plato comestible. Para la alimentación pedimos pasta con ragù de jabalí y porceddu, cochinillo asado lentamente con patatas asadas. La pasta estaba por debajo de la media, teníamos mejor ragù de jabalí con mucho más sabor en otro lugar, así que nuestras expectativas eran bastante altas. El cochinillo era una porción muy pequeña teniendo en cuenta el hecho de que más de la mitad de la porción eran huesos y gragea. Así que por 35 libras recibí un pequeño puñado de carne. Las patatas asadas estaban muy bien condimentadas, pero un poco demasiado cocidas. El plato se sirvió con dos cucharas de salsa, no muy generosa, ya que la carne necesita desesperadamente más salsa ya que de lo contrario está demasiado seca para comer. Como no estábamos contentos con nuestros entrantes y principales decidimos saltarnos el postre. Respecto al servicio: Nadie vino a vernos para preguntarnos si todo está bien o si necesitamos algo más mientras comemos nuestros entrantes y nuestra red. Esto nunca nos había pasado antes, alguien debería por fin venir y preguntar una vez durante cada curso si todo está bien. Otro ejemplo: Los dos caballeros que se sentaron a la mesa junto a nosotros estaban dispuestos a pagar. La camarera vino, cargó su tarjeta de crédito y ni siquiera se molestó en dar las gracias. El personal debe al menos tener la decencia y el respeto de agradecer a los clientes después de que pagaron. Exactamente lo mismo nos pasó cuando pagamos. Cuando estábamos a punto de irnos finalmente nos preguntaron si todo estaba bien, pero es demasiado tarde. Así que le dijimos al personal sobre todo lo que salió mal en nuestra opinión. La cuenta llegó a la friolera de 143 libras, así que mejor invierte tu dinero en otro lugar. Muy poco recomendable.

Good service and wonderful food!

My parents are Sardinian , so I was brought on Italian food with a heavy balance to the Island. Went to this restaurant at the weekend. The food was really really good with excellent service and great attention to detail. Prices are very high, possibly a bit too high, but you do get to eat proper Italian/Sardinian food The restaurant is quite small and lacks atmosphere, so may not be a good choice if your trying to impress someone. Definitely worth a visit

A very nice, small, stylish Sardinian restaurant with great service and excellent food and good wines. The only deduction for the ambience is that there is no background music playing.

Tomé la sopa de pulpo como entrada y espaguetis con erizos de mar. Ambos estaban buenos, pero el chef añadió demasiado chile, cubriendo el sabor del pescado. Fue una lástima que fueran bastante buenos por lo demás. El servicio fue impecable con una joven camarera de Lecce que era tan solar como la región de la que ella venía. Ella era # 1. Buena carta de vinos con Felluga Gaja y Jermann. Una experiencia agradable en general. Lástima por el chile. Muy caliente. A veces menos es más.

We stumbled across Olivo on a Sunday night and everything was perfect, the food the ambience and the gorgeous staff. It was so good Margie had lunch there with Lauren the next day with similar outcome. And a Sardinian seafood restaurant is a rare treat indeed

This is shocking. When people were hiding from the rain, they actually closed the awning and let passers-by get wet. It's so rude. I don't think the food in such a restaurant will be delicious. Just had a wonderful lunch at Olivo. The tortilli with prawns was superb and service attentive but relaxed. This was the first restaurant in a small group of local sister restaurants that I dined at many years ago and I must say it never disappoints.

There is no restaurant I would rather be in than Olivo, Oliveto or Olivo Mare. The food is consistently delicious and authentically Sardinian. The service is incredibly welcoming and friendly. Also no horrible musak just a really lively atmosphere. I eat in one of the restaurants at least once a week and have done so for 25 years. The wine is great value with plenty of choice under £50. I find it difficult to want to eat elsewhere especially as there are plenty of light choices and I’m always watching my weight.

Always a lovely stop for great food ! I usually recognise the staff as they have worked in the restaurant for years . Always polite and helpful but never intrusive . The food is just wonderful , Crab linguine to die for . Great simple , authentic cooking . Lovely menu always hard to decide and super wine list across price points .

We have been coming to Olivo for 30 years and the consistency of quality and service is incredible. An outstanding restaurant run by true pros. This restaurant has also launched famous chefs and it continues to produce outstanding talent. A core reference in the London restaurants’ scene.

Olivo Restaurant is one of my Top 3 restaurants in London. I believe the service, quality of food, and hospitality overall is fantastic. The menu offers a wide variety of options, and everything I ever tried was delicious. I especially love the creative twists and classic dishes. The service is top-notch! The staff is friendly, attentive, and goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. The ambience of this restaurant is so dreamy and cozy. I have been going to the Olivo restaurants for almost 30 years and have never been disappointed. Food is of excellent quality, wines are delicious and different from what you find in most other restaurants, the service is quick and very friendly. One of the best restaurants full stop! I’ve been fortunate to eat around the world and the wonderful thing about Olivo (and in fact the sister restaurant OlivoMare) is it is authentic with ingredients coming from Sardinia. Best ingredients cooked superbly and served by wonderful staff. It’s one of the only places you can bring your loved one, important client, work colleague or family for lunch or dinner. El mes pasado con colegas / amigos cenamos en Olivo Mare (tagliolini impresionante con pesto y marisco). Esta noche probamos Olivo. La calidad de la comida es de alta calidad, tanto la pizza como los primeros platos son buenos. El ambiente disfruta de un ambiente refinado, ambiente ligero, fresco y limpio. El personal es joven y profesional. ¡Muy recomendable!

Last night we had a great Italian meal in wonderful surroundings: colours are yellows and blues, service was very friendly. The menu is excellent with its typical Sardinian bottarga, or dried mullet roe, grated onto spaghetti. Main courses rely on char-grilling, we loved the salmon with parsley and anchovy sauce and we had a simple chicken escalope with fresh herbs. The all-Italian wine list is excellent. We love Olivo as it is very much a local restaurant with a loyal local clientele which makes for a unique atmosphere. Highly recommend this gem in Belgravia.

***UPDATE***: Olivo seems to think that I didn’t visit the restaurant. 🙃 Well, FYI, I dined in Olivo during a visit in London a few months ago, so this is a delayed review. Personally, I found my visit to Signor Sassi a much more pleasant experience than here. Original post: The majority of the staff is unwelcoming and food is very basic. I have been to Sardinia many times and they do not overcook their pasta there… price to quality ratio is poor

More than £90 for a mediocre risotto, "paccheri melanzane", a little cheese as desert for 1 person, a bottle of plain water and 2 glasses of not especially good or expensive wine. The aubergine I couldn't find, just some pasta in some tomato sauce, not spicy, no garlic, no cheese or whatever, no vegetables, just ...tomato sauce.

A mean and rude restaurant manager cannot lead the staff to prepare food with warmth

I remember a year ago, when I first came to this restaurant, I received excellent service and recommended it to few friends. But unfortunately, when I'm not a customer today, they are completely different. My friend and I were walking nearby when it suddenly started to rain heavily. We took shelter under Olivo's awning, and I was even telling my friend about the restaurant. However, the awning above us was retracted, forcing us to run to another place in the heavy rain. I thought they retracted the awning to protect it, but as soon as we ran away, they reopened it. It was clear they just didn't want us to take shelter under their precious awning, even though it was 17:40, not yet 18:00 (their business hours), there were no other customers under the awning, and we were sheltering at the side door, far from the main entrance, not blocking anyone from entering (after we left, their staff came out and smoked at the same spot, proving this point). You don't have to open an umbrella for people in the rain, but there's no need to retract an already open umbrella. This is what I consider kindness. I believe only with a kind and grateful heart can good food be made.Good Luck.

They offered gluten-free pasta, when ordering there was no good service and the atmosphere was very noisy.

Never again, never again! Overcooked pasta, over cooked pasta...and boiling sauce, boiling sauce. Not nice service, unfriendly service... A disaster, really disastrous 🤬

I've been going for more then 30 yrs since it opened in 1990. The quality and authenticity of the food has never gone down great Sardinian. Even post Brexit knowing how much the catering business has suffered.

Consistently great food over the decades. Small, unassuming but done right by proper food professionals. Fresh made fetucini, fabulous sweet breads, wafer thin beef, truffles. Its not trying to be Santini but neither are the prices. You will not be disappointed.

Fantastic dinner at Olivo. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The Carcioffi Misti was a great appetizer. I had the Galleto al Forno - one of the best chicken dishes I have ever had. We loved the Cannonau wine bottled for this restaurant.

Today, I had the pleasure of dining at Olivo, an Italian restaurant in London's Eccleston Street. Despite its modest size, the place has a cozy charm that immediately catches your attention. I opted for the risotto, and it was a decision I don't regret. Perfectly cooked, the flavors were authentic and rich, exactly what you'd hope for in a traditional Italian dish. My fellow diners chose various pastas, and judging by the clean plates all around, those dishes were just as impressive. What really stood out was the service, in a smaller restaurant like Olivo, the attention to detail and customer care were evident, staff were attentive without being intrusive, adding to the overall excellent dining experience. This spot is definitely a must-visit for anyone in London craving genuine Italian cuisine. It's a small place making a big impression with its delightful food and exceptional service.

Unfortunately an extremely poor experience on any aspect. One of the worst of the last few months. Food: average and definitely not up to the standard requested by the price tag. Especially disappointing the Aubergine and Ricotta starter at 16£: Literally 3 small slices of aubergine on top of some rocket leaves and with couple scoops of ricotta. Service: our food was taking an extremely long time to arrive but the staff was not checking on us nor had they realised that something was clearly wrong. This, despite there were only 6/7 tables occupied and the venue is small. We needed to call the manager’s attention multiple times for them to realise that our order had been some how accidentally cancelled. We then chased several times and despite that the manager never approached us to explain what was going on, give us a timeline, offer an apology, offer a drink or a snack during the wait. This appeared the least that could be done in light of the situation. Even after the error was spotted, the food again took a very long additional time to arrive. As soon as we had our last bite we asked for the bill as we were in a rush at that stage. It had taken approximately 1 hour for 4 pastas…Again no sign of the manager, nor any sign or gesture of apology for a ruined evening. This is very disappointing for a restaurant in this locations and with such a high price point. The only positive for the night was the extremely pleasant and polite Italian waitress. But that unfortunately couldn’t compensate for all the above.

A proper quality Italian restaurant that uses stunning ingredients, a real taste experience Sardinian octopus stew, buffalo mozzarella wrapped in the best Sardinian ham, my favorite: spaghetti with Sardinian grey mullet roe - amazing flavour. Followed by the best lamb dish I have ever had. I could eat the whole menu. Plus an interesting selection of Sardinian wine to complete your journey. The Korem in particular. Been twice, going back.

We had a lovely dinner experience at this elegant Sardinian restaurant. The waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave us excellent recommendations, you could perceive he had Sardinian roots and knew what he was talking about. Service was impeccable. We shared starters and I had a really lovely dish of pasta with artichokes. Coffee was one of the best I ever had in London

We went with friends who knew the owner and the food and service were beyond compare. There's also an Olivio shop, it sells all the ingredients the restaurant uses. Immerse yourself in both.

Super friendly staff and absolutely superb food and wine, we went for a business dinner and thought the place was empty when we arrived (around 7.30) by just after 8 there wasn't a spare table in the place (on a Monday night) which says a lot!

It has been around for a long time and these people know how to run a smooth operation.No fuss,it just hums quietly,looking after a knowledgable Belgravia clientele. Sardinian and more generally available Italian dishes are well executed with standouts being bottarga pasta and the great value house Vermentino. .
