Olive & Twist in Plymouth

Ate here today with my daughter, husband and her friend for a roast, the lamb came out cold, sent it back, they just warmed it up in the micro wave and put it back on our plate, when we had a sharing platter for two and a lamb roast, not good!! Was a cash and carry lamb shank not fresh cooked lamb!! And then putting 3 peoples lamb back on one plate is not good! No cauliflower cheese, surely if you’re offering a roast, and cauliflower cheese is on the menu, you haven’t ran out being the first table for a roast in there for the day! Well overpriced for what it is! Think you need to concentrate on just one thing instead of trying to offer everything and it not being very good! They gave us 50% off the bill and we we’re happy to pay that but won’t be rushing back - Shame as we like to try different new places making the effort but it’s all wrong here!

First time visiting and honestly thought it was quite overpriced for what is on offer. 5 of us had the bottomless brunch and compared to other ones on offered in the city this was probably my least favourite. Food was nothing exciting and the fact you have to pay supplements for chips I think is appalling especially as it’s already an expensive service at £45. The place looks nice but the service was slow and I especially hate the rule that everyone needs to finish their drink before the next one as we all drink at different speeds.

Ordered the surf & turf board despite being told that there was no salmon left. The food was nice but for £50 I thought that the board was overpriced and expected there to be more meat. Also, disappointed that there was no Hawkstone cider available & would be better if you could choose different cocktails on the 2 for £16 offer rather than having 2 of the same. On the other hand, can't fault the service and the staff which were excellent. Overall, I don't think we'll be going back again.

My girlfriend and I dined here & had the tapas-style meal. Food was delicious and the staff were friendly. There was live entertainment on the night which made the atmosphere lively. 10/10 would definitely dine here again!

I came in with a party. We pre booked our food. My friend and I ordered the cheese sharing platter. This description suggests it would be enough to share with another person, but it was so disappointing and definitely not enough for 2. Hardly any cheese, too much greenery and very little else. I’ve had better cheese boards after a meal. I would like to say it’s a lovely place and the service was good but because I was disappointed I won’t return.

Eaten here a few times. Service is good, although slow. Had the breakfast sharing platter this time, which had items missing and margarine for the toast. Left disappointed (not for the 1st time).

Great experience at Olive and Twist, Bartenders and waiters were friendly, place had a great vibe and amazing service. Recommend to anyone. My bartender was Tyler and I must say he could make a great cosmo.

The most surley, depressing service I have ever had here. The young boy with dark hair and glasses was only interested in talking with the girls behind the bar in which he worked with, and it was all you could hear. Waited 20 minutes for our ciabattas when it wasn't even busy. Finished our lunch and my partner had to pop out, I waited for about another 20 minutes for the dark haired boy to come back to my table, as I wanted another cappuccino but he never did return to our table to ask if we wanted anything else, our dirty empty plates left on the table. I had an old dog so didn't want to move him. When I went to pay the bill I told him I was waiting to order another coffee to which he just ignored and blanked me by just asking me if cash or card. I asked him 'do you not come come back and ask if the customer wants anything else then' to his reply of 'yeah but I was busy out the back' Will NEVER return, shame as we came here all the time. One customer lost! Need to sack the boy with dark hair and glasses, he was really quite rude and clearly came across he really did not give a monkeys...

Lovely place to hold a baby shower. Went above and beyond.

Popped in for lunch, we fancied something different from a fry up. The food was amazing, generous. We shall go again if we are ever in Plympton.

I went here mid week in the evening with 2 friends. We had 3 cocktails each & shared a cheese board & nachos. We all commented on the beautiful presentation & great taste of the food. We all loved our cocktails too. The atmosphere was relaxed & the lady serving us was friendly & very attentive. We will definitely be back! Update: went here again on a Friday, really enjoyed the live music and all 4 of us loved the food and cocktails.

I’ve been to the Olive and Twist 3 times now (1st with work colleges, 2nd with my boyfriend and 3rd in a group of 4). I loved the 1st two times (during the week) - amazing food / cocktails, nice atmosphere, reasonable waiting times. However, the 3rd time (a saturday) 2 of our group had allergies (one was gluten intolerant and one was celiac -similar but more serve) we chose here as we loved it so much the previous time and they had a good gluten free menu. Initially the staff were very accommodating we asked for everything to be gluten free and after the food initially arrived asked for some separate pitas for the non gluten free people which was fine (our group understand we had to spit the food up before so nothing would be contaminated / asked for lots of servers).However, there was over an hours wait for food (was informed only of a slight delay), the Camembert did not arrive with the rest of the food and arrived 20 mins later which we did not expect as it usually arrives with the food meaning it didn’t have anything with it. Therefore we complained and were told that we would get some complimentary gluten free bread and pitas (kept seperate) however we could here the chef kicking off in the kitchen about providing this saying I’m not doing this they can just have the pittas / was going to put them together. This was very concerning to us as if this occurred the celiac would get extremely ill so we had to go to the chef to say it has to be kept seperate else he could get ill etc. We recieved 15% off our bill due to this incident however I would not recommend for anyone with a intolerance etc to have food here as the chef clearly doesn’t understand the seriously of what could happen if food is cross contaminated / could make someone seriously ill. I love it here but this has tinted my view on this restraunt and therefore won’t be back in a hurry.

This was my first time at the restaurant, it was a birthday celebration with my friend and I. The food was nice but service was awful. After our main and 1 drink, a waiter did not return to our table. No offer of further drinks or a dessert. Eventually, I paid at the bar, no apology given. The wait staff were focused on the larger group parties, pushing cocktails. No care was given to smaller tables at all. So disappointed, will not be returning or recommending to family and friends.

We came here today for the wife's birthday with our little grandson. We were served by friendly, attentive staff who brought us our cold bottle of wine & delicious food. My wife had the 3 tapas offer & I had the brunch bowl with chicken & chorizo as an extra. The food was very well presented & certainly very tasty. Booking is probably advisable at peak times due to the quality of the food, as, like us, once visited, people will definitely return.

Booked table, arrived and then seated. That was it....didn't ask us if we would like drinks and didn't come to us at all for 15 minutes so decided to leave. 5 staff behind the little bar, only one other table of guests who were already sat eating. Poor service

Great find! We popped in for lunch, had two of the Buddha Bowls and two panini's, with a bottle of wine for the table and it was all awesome. We all enjoyed our food. The Buddha bowls were a great size, we added halloumi to ours which was perfectly done too. The panini's looked great as well. There is a good menu and I can imagine everyone would be able to find something to like there. Other than single person meals they had sharing plates as well which we'll definitely come back for. The vibe of the place is lovely, a great back garden for when the sun is out. They have clearly put effort into both their outside and inside with some nice art and decoration. You could just as enjoyably pop in for a coffee or enjoy staying there later and have a few drinks. They mentioned live music too, and while we couldn't quite make it today, it would definitely be a good venue for it. Prices are also very fair, you more than get what you pay for. The people, to top it off, were lovely too. Plenty of free parking nearby if required.

Best coffee, owner explained the details and steps they take to make their coffee so good. Decor is very earthy and modern- I really liked spending my time in there to relax.

We wanted to find an independent place that did coffee and food well. Looking up and down the ridgeway there really isn't much that's appealing but we happened to just stumble across this place and it did not disappoint! Usually I buy a coffee and leave feeling like I've just wasted my money but not this place. Milk was silky smooth, coffee wasn't bitter or burnt. It was made really well. The food was also lovely. My daughter had a mixture of meats, cheeses and fruits and it looked so good, she ate the whole thing. I will definitely be back, and maybe even incorporate a cocktail!

Great venue! Clean and facilities were great! We hosted a baby shower here today and found everything super clean and friendly staff! Would highly recommend to others for a venue!

My partner and I booked table for our anniversary and were really touched by the personal touches of a card and balloon put on our table for us. We sampled the new menu and was not at all disappointed. The food was excellent, service was excellent and the Espresso Martinis were simply divine! Overall we had a wonderful evening with great service, food and drinks with a lovely atmosphere. We most certainly will be back. Thank you

Visited Olive and Twist yesterday afternoon in the beautiful sunshine and it was such a shame to see the venue, including the large beer garden, absolutely dead. There were more staff than customers and yet there was still no service to speak of. The staff seemed disinterested and there was no atmosphere. There was no cold wine, and so the team member disclaimed 'oh for f**** sake'. The 'chef' also walking around or sat in the garden in her lemon sports bra and leggings wasn't very professional. Really disappointing visit so we headed to the wetherspoons next door and received much better service at the fraction of the cost. This place will last 5 minutes unless some real hospitality staff are hired quickly!

Not a cocktail bar, I asked what ingredients/ alcohol were in the cocktails as it just gave a name one the menu “bramble” to be told they are pre made and I can look on the carton! @ £8.50 a drink I declined the glasses where like something out of weatherspoons next door! Try and cut ur menu down and focus on a specific thing & do it well…… ended up going back into Plymouth for actual cocktails 🍹

Booked a table and the decor around was lovely. Midweek lunch but was busy and nice atmosphere. We decided to share the Camembert and some nachos. Camembert cooked perfectly, however, just two mini part bake rolls is not enough for a while Camembert. The guacamole, nor the cheese sauce seemed homemade but the salsa was. Cost was a lot when not much seemed made, just assembled. Staff lovely but would not return which is a shame as venue is really lovely.

Rubbish service, 45 mins to be served breakfast then didn't even bring it all or any cutlery. Website states gluten free menu but server had no idea then after 15 mins asked "how gluten free" was I. No confidence in cross contamination and what they were actually serving me. It's trying to be too many things, 'cafe/bar/restaurant/drinking spot/live music'. Also very loud music playing for 11am for people eating.

Lovely venue and nicely decorated. Unfortunately the sharing boards where not worth £38, nothing was made fresh it was all items that could be bought from a packet in a supermarket. Even the bread was just the part baked bread you can buy in any supermarket. The staff where friendly however took an hour for the pre ordered food to come out, items forgotten and we had to ask time and time again for more drinks. Has the potential to be nice, just needs a better, higher standard of food and some staff training!

We couldn't get a table and turned away a few times, but once we did manage to get a table, the food and service was lovely. I recommend you book beforehand.

Very slow service. Waited 45 mins for 2 small breakfasts. Wasted told it'll be that much of a wait when ordering, when we ordered we were the only ones in the restaurant so I didn't think we would have to wait so long! Food is very over priced for what you get! £28.50 for 2 small breakfasts and 2 hot drinks. Only plus was it was dog friendly, wouldn't return.

Lovely feel to the place but needs some work in terms of their organisation and speed. Food was ok but you could probably get equal quality in spoons next door for half the price. Would I go back? yes/maybe Would I go back quickly? Probably not

This is literally my new favourite place! I'm yet to try the cocktails but the breakfast was amazing!! And so are the smoothies. Staff are really friendly and polite.

Not a bad place but nothing special if that makes sense. Food was pretty good. Would be nice to have beer on tap. Was a leak whilst we were in there from upstairs which wasn’t there fault but it was all a bit chaotic. Good cocktails!

It was exactly what we needed and we had so much fun together! Decoration is funky and on trend but with a nice relaxed feel! I thought it was fantastic value for the money and the staff were extremely attentive and friendly! As soon as our cocktails were finished they had the next one there for us. Excellent service, delicious food and great cocktails It was that good that I went back the following Saturday with friends! Service, food & drinks again was exceptional 👌

Insanely overrated, the staff had to ask some people to leave before we could sit down which was awkward. You only get a certain amount of time to finish your food otherwise you have to leave. A new one on me, especially when they take an hour and 5 minutes to bring your food out. No beers to speak of, ended up having two small bottles of corona which were extortionately expensive. Wouldn’t bother again, I honestly wish I went next door to Wetherspoons!

Fab for cocktails with the girls midday...menu of food is fantastic Breakfast until late then nice lunch menu. Coffee and cake today which was unbelievably yummy as made from proper chocolate flakes and milk.

Been here today and had the Camembert sharing bread and nachos and they were delicious! Pinot Grigio wine was lovely as well. The owner took his time to speak to us and made us feel very welcome. Beautiful venue and definitely worth a visit.

The decor is beautiful but the service is slow and the food is low quality for the prices charged. The veggie platter was mostly salad and fruit with some shop bought quiche and cheap bake in the oven rolls and it cost £28! We wouldn’t return.

Nice Decor Staff were friendly Food was ok but disappointing for the price. Dog friendly which is a plus. Better establishments for daytime coffee and cake / food nearby Maybe it's better for an evening or night time rendezvous

Wow, who would have thought a place like this would be in Plympton. Fabulous environment and you can see no expense has been spared on the finishes. Beautiful. Fantastically well stocked bar with all the favourites plus beers and ciders from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson's orchards to James May's Gin, George Clooney's Tequila, Little Wayne's Rum, Ryan Reynolds Gin and supposedly the best gin in the world, No3 London Gin. Good selection of wines and champagne which I'm told is still growing. Lovely olive bar with a great selection of olives, stuffed peppers and sun-dried tomatoes. Ever changing menu, check website for changes, all freshly prepared with fresh ingredients by expert in house chefs. Lovely outside area with festival lighting which creates an intimate cosey atmosphere. A true credit to the local owners. Booking advisable especially at the weekends as although new it seems busy already. Cannot recommend highly enough, 6 stars. I forgot to mention the really knowledgeable and friendly staff, you name a cocktail and they'll make it, 7 stars 🤩
