Fantastic birthday lunch with my husband on a Sunday afternoon. Excellent food and service as usual. I ordered the calamari then the goats cheese risotto. Both fabulous. We were very well looked after. One of our favourite restaurants. ❤️

Treated to a wonderful lunch by some customers. Really great service, lovely food and very stylish restaurant. Definitely recommended and will return.

Went to this restaurant because of good reviews but didn’t have a good experience my wife had a piece of plastic in her prawn cocktail and was told it came from the lettuce container but did not get a good apology from the staff and nothing from the manager and I shall be informing environmental health

Visited on Sunday for lunch. Staff very friendly no complaints there. Food was really nothing special. Bottle of tap water £2.50. Never asked for second bottle but plonked on the table. Small glass of coke £3. Our bill for three without desserts and a tip £190. When we arrived not the restaurants fault but it was extremely noisy My opinion is subjective but Smith's at Ongar, The Magic Mushroom at Barleyland or Alex at Brentwood gave us a much better experience and value for money.

A fantastic well run restaurant with brilliant staff and some lovely dishes to choose from the menu . We have been here several times and Gianni the owner makes this place .

We had wanted to try this restaurant and went on a Saturday evening for a special meal. We were warmly welcomed by the maitre d’ and shown to our table, even though we arrived quite early. We found the service to be extremely efficient despite the restaurant being very busy. For starters we had mussels and a delicious warm goats cheese with fig and honey. For mains, a risotto vongole, it was loaded with clams which was unusual and much appreciated. also a pasta with a fiery nduja sauce, both excellent. Not much room for pudding so we ordered one portion of ice cream. A thoughtful touch by our friendly waitress was to provide two spoons for us without us having to ask. For the food, wine and coffee we felt that the bill was very reasonable. For people like us from the hospitality industry, we were very satisfied even to the extent of personally thanking the kitchen brigade. We would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

I was asked if I wanted a drink 3 times, by 3 separate members of staff within 1 minute of sitting down - I thought someone was joking with me. Staff don’t seem to have designated areas so there’s lots of repeat questions. Food was average at best, not presented very well and resembled a good ready meal. Wasn’t for me.

Staff gave us an incorrect bill. Then, when payment was made, they forgot to take the complete amount. Unfortunate to have a table next to us where one of them did not talk but shouted all evening. Nothing wrong with the food.

Came here for my sons 30th, all the staff played along with the surprise. Every single member of staff was excellent. Great food and atmosphere. Can't believe it's so long since we visited will defo be back ASAP. Could not fault anything

This place is amazing, the service is first class, the staff are always welcoming and super helpful and the food is so good, I cannot recommend Olio highly enough.

The food and service were outstanding. The wine was excellent, and the mushroom risotto was the best I've ever tasted.

It’s not Italian, it’s trattoria. No music background at all. For the evening dinner you have just 1:45. You don’t have time to drink a bottle of wine and dessert.

We visited Olio last night for our wedding anniversary, and if I could give them more than 5 stars, I would! The venue is gorgeous, cosy, and comfortable. The curved walls give you the feeling of being more intimate and private, although it was busy. The staff here are special. They welcome you as if they've known you for years. They treat you as if you are the only people in there and are attentive. They are very professional but fun at the same time. Service was very fast! Our food was divine. It's the best gluten-free Italian I have ever tasted. The pasta was so soft and perfectly cooked, which is no easy feat with gluten-free pasta. I could not find one fault with this restaurant and left feeling extremely satisfied and cared for. Olio, thank you for a wonderful time. We look forward to many more!

All i need to say is give it a go, you wont be disappointed thats fir sure 1st class food and real friendly staff...10/10

Hoping for a quiet evening with husband but really busy. Good atmosphere, food was out of the world (three course 😋) and just a very pleasant evening. Reasonably priced and service was spot on! Places to eat and having a good meal and service is really hard to find. But spot on and just what we both needed. Thank you 😊

Exceptional service, as always. Friendly staff, and incredibly accommodating. Steak (pictured first) was wonderful, cooked medium rare and accompanied by peppercorn sauce. Chocolate soufflé was equally as wonderful, and my dad even got a surpise birthday treat for his 70th!

Really lovely food. Staff are great, smartly dressed. Good also to see customers adhere to the requested dress code. Makes it special particularly for special occasions.

Lunch for four: we phoned ahead for 1:30 meal, were asked to be there by 13:00 due to kitchen closing early at lunchtimes. Typical reduced lunchtime menu. Why do so many restaurants do this to us lunchtime diners? Disappointingly, soup as a starter was not an option. The starters and main courses that we ordered were well cooked and good portions. Well done supplying chilled tap water without having to ask (that gave you the full 5* rating for service!). We didn't partake of a dessert but did have black coffee which was, like the food, excellent. We had a bottle of over-priced wine between 3 of the diners, which made the cost per head a little on the high side.

This is just one of those restaurants where everything just hits the spot. The food was amazing. Real Italian food, good ingredients, fresh and cooked to perfection 👌 The service was great and staff were very attentive to your needs. In a lovely setting off the green near Writtle, with views of the lake. You would struggle to find fault. I rarely give a 5* rating for everything, but in this case, I had to. Myself and my husband both said we couldn't wait to return. We had 3 courses and 3 drinks each, so for the price and quality, it was really good value too!

Went for Sunday lunch. Was lovely sitting outside in the sun. Service was impeccable, very attentive and we never went without a drink. Food also came out fairly quick, but we were in no rush anyway. And the food!! Omg!!! Absolutely beautiful!! Some of the best Italian food I've ever eaten!! Cocktails were also really on point!!! Had an actual long island iced tea!! Nor fake one with abit of vodka in it. Staff were lovely and very friendly!! Will 100% be returning!!

Highly recommend; you won't be disappointed. Gianni true professional. Been here many times and always great reception, helpful staff and lovely Italian food. Went here for my son's 16th birthday. Tender carpaccio, tasty and red mullet starters with tangy sauce. Lot of us had veal for mains and my daughter a medium fillet steak in a well run restaurant with busy ambience.

We visited to celebrate our 10th Anniversary after a colleague recommended we try Olio. The staff were friendly and attentive, there was a lot to choose from on the menu, including many gluten-free options which made my wife happy. Portions were generous, the Fillet Steak was fantastic as was the GF Penne Fruiti Di Mare👌. We will definitely be visiting again.

Lots of fish options here but as someone who doesn’t eat fish, I went for the goats cheese starter and the chicken Milanese. Both were excellent, as was the service and ambience.

Had a fabulous Mother’s Day treat at Olio on the Green! Absolutely love this restaurant! It was a set menu but still had great options. The sea bass was amazing as always, as were the sardines. The best bit though are the wonderful staff who go out of their way to give you the warmest welcome which they have done each time we’ve eaten there. Service was excellent, we had drinks when we needed them and the food just right, not rushed but not left waiting. We look forward to visiting in the better weather to sit outside and watch the ducks on The Green 😁. Highly recommend this beautiful restaurant ☺️

I can honestly say this is THE best restaurant… we dine there regularly and the food is amazing! Complimented by friendly attentive staff who are great with children or if you are just out for a romantic meal or with friends. If you haven’t been then I strongly recommend. Thanks to Olio’s and the staff for being fantastic in every way.

We visited Olios on Friday night for my daughter’s birthday! Amazing service, very accommodating. They even sang happy birthday when they bought out the cake. Food was to superb. Will definitely be a regular in the future! Thank you for a lovely evening 💕

Visited the restaurant for lunch with family on Saturday 24th Feb. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was superb. All guests were well catered for (two in our party are vegetarian and one GF) and we were spoilt for choice with the menu and the service was excellent. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I had the lasagne and I am not exaggerating, it was THE BEST lasagne I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back to explore more of the menu…and the cocktails!

Popped in for meal with family, fabulous food . I had skate wing cooked to perfection, and goats cheese with figs starters. Staf wonderful and helpful for dietary requirements, well done we will be back 5 starts meal and service

Last minute lunch time booking for my brother's 60th birthday and we were not disappointed. Food and service was excellent. They all truly went out of their way to ensure we had a fabulous experience. Also have to say how brilliantly they looked after my 2 and a half year old granddaughter. Just asked me what she would like to eat and made it first. They didn't even charge me for her food. Total admiration. Sincere thanks for a lovely experience.

Always a warm welcome and fantastic cuisine too. Genuine Italian ingredients in authentic recipes are a win every time. It is clear why this is our favourite restaurant in Essex. Gio and the team are exceptional hosts who are experts at making each guest feel like an old friend.

Honestly one of the best restaurant experiences ever! Took my grandmother out for lunch and she was treated like the queen! Such attentive and friendly staff with great recommendations. And the food was perfectly cooked, can't fault at all. 10/10

Do away with the plastic flowers guys. Otherwise everything perfect. The Margaritas were up there with the best. We normally go to London to eat out so really pleasantly surprised with the offering at Olio on the Green. Keep up the good work everybody.

Fantastic! The food was delicious and the service from the staff was exceptional. We were celebrating my MIL’s birthday and the staff overheard so when we ordered desserts, they brought hers out on a platter with “Happy Birthday” written on it. A small detail but it really was a lovely surprise and made our visit! We went Saturday lunchtime and they catered space for our buggy. I will most definitely be returning!

Friendly service, large servings. Starter’s amazing (pork belly and scallops) main course risotto under seasoned but nice, lasagne disappointing- small piece of hard plastic found in dish. Unsure how something prepared on the premises could contain this. No explanation from our waiter. Was busy when we were there.

An absolute gem of Essex food industry! Cheesy Lobster & Pasta was fantastic.

I came to Olio today for a wedding lunch. I thought it was a great choice. Food was excellent and well presented. Staff were friendly helpful. One had a great sense of humour 😀 Thank you.

Waitress a bit abrupt. Kept waiting for veg when main course was served. Profiteroles rather solid . Too many dishes had chilli so choice lumited

I wish you could see the full 6 minutes of the video where Mimmo flambees the Grana Padano before adding the linguine and stirring in the exquisite finely grated truffle... Just divine!! If you find yourself anywhere near Writtle just be sure to pay a visit to this wonderful restaurant - you just know that you owe it to yourself to do so 😉 😋
