L'unico Ristorante in Chelmsford

A lovely place behind the unassuming façade. The food was perfect and the atmosphere beautifully Italian (good, Italian music in the background, attentive waiters, quality tableware with textile napkins). We ate a full four-meal dinner and every single course was awe inspiring. I can recommend this place with the warmest heart.

Absolutely amazing restaurant. Really took care of my and my partner whilst we were there, and made us feel so welcome. Every single member of staff was so lovely, the food was absolutely delicious, and the interior is so cozy and romantic!!! The waitress was particularly sweet and friendly, so shoutout to her:) Cannot recommend enough - wish I’d found this sooner, will be going back frequently!

What a night ! We went for my husbands birthday. Great atmosphere, delicious food, staff were so friendly, a real family run restaurant. We will definitely be going back. Thank you for making out so much fun. X

First time we’ve been here since the change of ownership & all of us had a good time. Lovely food, friendly staff who made us feel very welcome and the chef made time to come over after to ask if everything was okay. We will definitely be returning Well done all.

What a disappointment!!! On a Friday night at 7pm to be the only four people in a restaurant does ring alarm bells... but we were still hopeful having followed their Instagram for a while but wow.. Apart from the waitress this place was seriously lacking. The starters were luke warm, one of which was the breaded brie which consisted of THREE tiny pieces dropped randomly on the plate which I just stared at for a few seconds in disbelief while looking at the others around me. For £11 I'd have expected at LEAST twice as much. They were TINY. i'd be embarrassed to serve that to friends. Next came the mains. My partner and a friend had the veal which arrived on stone cold plates and at best was tepid. How can a kitchen serving an EMPTY restaurant send out COLD food??? They re-cooked or re-heated it so she ended up eating alone after we'd all finished! My main was the monkfish. Having been shortchanged with the brie I was extremely disappointed to see that for £28 I received THREE small pieces of fish.... Wow. In fairness one of the group did enjoy their meal. Having had the pork belly starter which was a decent size and tasty, then the skate which again was very tasty and warm. By the time we left, only two other couples had come in so 8 people of a Friday night!!?? Even though most dishes were cold and, in my case, sparce they did all taste very nice and the waitress really was very good but for us four, it's just a shame, as we much prefer to eat in independent restaurants rather than chains but there are better options for Italian food in town.

What a joy to be back in an intimate, authentic Italian restaurant. We were the only ones in there to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but that didn't take away from the restaurant ambiance. They dimmed the lights and lit candles! Attentive staff but not overbearing. The flavours of both dishes were sublime with the freshest ingredients. We felt very spoilt. Lovely chat with one of the owners/head chef at the end. We wish them well and will be back.

We had my friends baby shower here today and had the best afternoon. We were all well looked after and the food was divine! They couldn't of done more! Thank you

This restaurant is an absolute gem in Chelmsford. Eddie is a wonderful owner and cook, and works his socks off to provide a 10/10 service. I’ve been graciously welcomed every time i’ve been in the restaurant and it’s a very warm environment. I can only reccomend L’unuico to anybody reading this review. The food is tip-top, and the service is very friendly. Don’t miss out!

The best Authentic Italian restaurant in Chelmsford! The cheesy garlic bread, squid and giant Prawns were amazing! Followed by a chicken pasta dish! Of course finished off with Limoncello! The customer service was exceptional with the chef checking that everything was okay and a very friendly funny guy! 100% recommend and will be going back.

We came across L’unico’s on a cold rainy night and were greeted with the warmest of welcomes and an exceptional standard of cuisine. A beautiful restaurant with an ambiance and service rarely found today. A hidden gem to discover and cherish 🤍

I can see what they’re trying to accomplish but they have a long way to go.. service was almost laughable watching the struggling staff trying to run up and down the restaurant. Half way through our meal we were asked by the manager to move tables so they could accommodate more customers. A simple pasta dish was made from packet pasta and was undercooked, surely an Italian restaurant should be making fresh pasta themselves it’s really not that difficult to do. The ambiance is basically a small room crammed full of people with crashes and bangs coming from all over the place. I couldn’t wait to leave and I won’t be back.

We popped in with the kids today, early afternoon to grab a bite to eat, and honestly, the food was exceptional! My wife and I have travelled a bit and like eating out. We're real foodies. I wish we'd discovered this place sooner. Maybe the romantic Italian music playing in the background helped or the amazing staff, but it was a wonderful experience and the food was fresh and on point. We'll be back!

Lovely independent restaurant. Outstandingly friendly service, great choice of fresh, delicious good and drink.

It could be argued our first ever visit to L'unico did not get off to the best possible start, the Chef was delayed due to motorised contretemps on the Army & Navy roundabout. In fact the "boss" came in to cook our meals, until he came to the rescue we received multiple apologies for the delay and royally treated too. Our choice of dish may have been delayed in arriving at our table but one thing is absolutely certain, it was worth waiting for! We had called for the Risotto Al Fungi (Mushrooms) and the Vitello Milanese (Veal). We were not disappointed, both dishes were beautifully cooked and tasted wonderful. There is absolutely no doubt we will visit L'unico again, hopefully in the very near future. There is much to be explored on their menu. Like Italian food? Try L'unico's, based upon our visit you won't rue visiting their Ristorante.

Amazing food! Amazing service and all round brilliant evening! Staff were attentive and funny (even helping my dad read the menu by turning the lights up in the whole restaurant as he forgot his glasses) very lovely restaurant and relaxed atmosphere. The food was stunning! We had the mainly fish dishes which all tasted beautifully fresh and a very well cooked steak dish which was cooked to perfection. Could not recommend this restaurant enough and really is a hidden gem! We will definitely be back!

Amazing authentic Italian fare & lovely wine coupled with excellent friendly service! The white bait starter was crispy on the outside, tender & tasty on the inside. My son’s funghi risotto was the best he’s ever had and my fish stew was so fresh & flavourful, served with good sourdough bread. Would highly recommend and will be sure to return to try the myriad of tempting dishes they have on their menu!

Excellent food, brilliantly engaging staff ready to comfort and ease with recommendations. Generally great dining experience, desserts not to be missed. One of, if not the most undersold restaurants in Chelmsford.

I like this restaurant and the food is good, however I think it's a bit pricy compared to other Italian restaurants in the city. The fish menu is extensive. I had skate and it was lovely.

Booked my mums 60th at this restaurant and they were great. We had the room down stairs that was a great function room (we had a party of 11) food & service were great, would highly recommend!

Went there for dinner last night (8th March) with my partner. Food was incredible by far the best Italian Cuisine in Chelmsford city centre. Eddie who served us was fantastic and attentive. Pollo di l’unico was delicious, the wine which we chose was Gavi and that complimented the food perfectly. Finished off the meal with a torte di Nona Highly recommend.

Amazing food, amazing service, amazing drinks. We went for dinner on date night and Eddie and his team created a great memory for us. Authentic Italian cuisine; one of the best spots in Chelmsford!

I went with my daughter for her birthday For dinner yesterday. There were 4 of us including 2 young teenagers . The food was excellent. The service was first class . This is a small cosy restaurant .Would definitely dine here again .👍

Wow actual authentic Italian. Hand made and fresh calamari. Amazing food. Montepulciano wine was so good we asked where it came from - they ship to wine direct from Italy.

Lovely atmosphere. Small and cosy establishment with tasty traditional Italian menu - something for everyone. Recommend the mussels - absolutely divine with a glass chilled Sauvignon blanc.

The high standard has never changed - the taste, the appearance, the friendly staff who have time for you.... the chef has a light touch which makes each plate of food a perfect one! - everything we have tasted always has been so good! There's no other restaurant that compares for us!! And this after dining there the past 10 years plus.

My wife and I visited the newly opened L’unico restaurant with my son and his family on Sunday. L’unico is run by Eddie who we have had the pleasure of knowing for a number of years. He is determined to make a success of this new enterprise and after our experience on Sunday he deserves to succeed. Not only was the food and service outstanding, the entire atmosphere he and his team have created made this a very enjoyable dining experience. We were impressed with their friendly attention to detail without being overpowering and desire to ensure everything was perfect. The kitchen staff also deserve praise for the beautifully cooked and presented dishes, and the flexibility shown to ensure our grandchildren were as well catered for as the adults. We look forward to returning very soon.
