Wildwood Restaurant & Bar in Chelmsford

Had a lovely meal with friends here on Saturday night. Great food, great cocktails! Was surprised it wasn't busier.

Four of us had a very enjoyable lunch. There are a lot of the larger chains in Chelmsford city centre - those found in most towns - and we were trying to find something a bit different. Woodlands had a more imaginative menu, with some interesting options for vegetarians and vegans. We tried the homemade vegan lasagna and the pizza which were both good. They arrived promptly and service was friendly. The restaurant is in a very pleasant spot on the river Chelmer, close to the friendship bridge. There are lots of seats outside under large sunshades. An opportunity to try and hang on to summer.

Wildwood Chelmsford offers a pleasant atmosphere but falls short on food quality and value. The dishes were average, and for £70 for two people, the meal did not feel worth the price. Additionally, a 10% service charge was added but not mentioned on the menu, which felt sneaky and disappointing. Overall, it's an underwhelming experience with better dining options likely available in Chelmsford.

Haven’t been for a while, had 2 meals and starter, prawns very good, pizza very good, and minute steak and salad was ok,steak ok but needed a sauce there probably was one but didn’t ask so that was our problem. service was excellent and staff were very polite and friendly will definitely go again and recommend, toilets need bit of a spruce up bit dated but clean.

We like the food and atmosphere in Wildwood, it’s nothing fancy but yummy and lovely setting for lunch. Yesterday we went in and my young daughter out of the blue was quite unwell. The staff were absolutely incredible. They came straight over and were so helpful and kind about it when I was getting a bit stressed out and trying to clean up. Isabella and Chinju, you are amazing people and so so kind to me and my family, I can’t thank you enough!!!

Staff were friendly and helpful and provided a meal for me that accommodated my food intolerances. Lovely rose blush wine too. And super chocolate dessert.

The driver was very friendly but struggled to find my home. The pizza was totally cold

First time I went here we had a pizza with mould on it. This time stodgy pizza, mixed up order and blunt knives.

The staff here went above and beyond adapting the menu and checking their ingredients to accommodate my new food allergies. Our waitress was very polite and friendly. We have often eaten here and find the whole experience relaxing and friendly with good food.

What a Christmas disappointment I arrived 5 minutes later than my friend but she was sat at 6pm. We thought we booked Xmas dinner but to our Surprise we only revived a normal menu. The waitress was very kind and checked with the kitchen that we could have the three course Xmas menu. Before this We waited Half an hour and not one waitress approached us to offer anything. I then had to get up and ask someone for drinks. The young waitress was very sweet and took our drinks order. We only had our mock tails order and the water we requested we did not receive. After waiting half an hour I again had to get a waitress’s attention for our water Starter came and we were happy with the food Mains…. My friend received her main first which was Luke warm, I received my side of green beans but was left waiting for my main and also left with no replacement of cutlery for either of us, So again I had to get up and find a waitress for cutlery to eat. Also every single table had two peppers and each and no salt to be seen. So we ended up eating separately which is extremely disappointing as this was our Christmas meal. Finally cleared of our mains and had our desert order taken which we then had to wait for an extremely long time to receive Then had to go to the staff to pay as nobody cleared us or asked if we wanted anything else I have worked and managed hospitality for years and although the waitress was very sweet the whole staff service was pure laziness. The older waitress who looked like the Manager was the worst of them all. The restaurant was not busy at all and plenty of staff to cover the tables. The place was dirty, food was average and service just shocking. I understand you may be tired from Xmas but staff should be sharp on a QUIET Friday night before Xmas. When we paid the bill I was extremely hesitant to pay the service charge due to the lack of service but the young girl was very sweet and it’s Christmas Whoever is managing this is failing. I have run bigger restaurants with hundreds of Customers and have never delivered such a poor and lazy service for a small amount of tables. I can’t believe the good reviews you have are real. I will never visit again

Our first visit to Wildwood (Chelmsford), the decor and atmosphere, were just perfect. A new member of staff served us, she was very tentertive and caring. We placed our order, when the food arrived, the smell and the presentation were brilliant. The taste of our meals was so good. The flavours mixed so well. We ended the meal with a coffee and a sweet. The whole experience within Wildwood was so good, and the staff wanted to serve, and they did so well. Thank you.

I attended last night the 7th December as part of a work Christmas meal and found the atmosphere very lovely, the staff all super friendly and helpful and very hard working and the food I had was absolutely beautiful, cooked to perfection and delicious.

We come here in Oct for my son’s birthday and again yesterday for lunch whilst Christmas shopping. Staff are very friendly restaurant nice and clean food really good and we feel good value for money. The lunch deal was particularly good. Please keep up the good work nice to step into a nice environment.

Very nice, didn't have what I ate before when I visited but food and service good. Only one complaint no bulb in toilet so very dark

Excellent customer service here this weekend. There was a small mistake on one of the meals and the manager remade it and took it off the bill. Small things but that level of customer service was much better than any of the restaurants we have been in locally. Food was very good.

Didn't get to eat the food as it arrived after I'd left for work. I'd ordered it 2 hours before I starred work - salads and flat bread. To be fair the restaurant probably did a good job at the time, but the service had no driver available and the estimated time kept changing.

We had a large party 15. Very slow on taking orders arrived at 3pm starters arrived 16.20pm never asked if food okay if more drinks needed. Yes we were very noisy but it was a 13th birthday party. Food very good but service very poor. Printed out bill left us to work it out. Never going back

Group of 15 tonight for a birthday party. Only had 2 servers and only 2 other tables. We were sat at 3 and food arrived about 4:30pm, not asked if food was ok and only asked once if additional drinks required. Overall, quite disappointing.

The food here is excellent! We came for a birthday party of 8 and we had the kids menu that was very substantial. The chicken, chips, beef burger and the pizza was all tasty, hot and we didn't have long to wait. We have returned twice more and the food is just as good the cheesecake and the warm chocolate brownie with ice cream all so tasty. The service is excellent and they get to know you too, very welcoming.

Although I was served the wrong meal to begin with but when the right one was served it was delicious. The service was great. Great place to dine outside on a warm evening.

Great portion for the 11.95 lunch two course menu. Big drink, big pasta, big salad.

Had a bit of lunch here today 26/8/23 I had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with sweet potato fries the fries were a bit to grease the actual Sandwick was quite nice but definitely over priced it was £16.50 + £1.00 extra for the sweet potato fries and £3.50 for a small bottle of elder water I would eat here again but the price for what you get is to much. The staff were very good . The cutlery wasn't clean well it had water stain on it and the salt and pepper mills were dirty shame .

We visited wildwood in chelmsford on the way from shopping. We have visited this restaurants years ago and it wasnt good, food was ok but staff that time was very slow and not very nice. Such a surprise!!! It was great!!! Manager was lovely, she was smiling, nothing was issue for her and it was busy but great!!! We will be back

We had lunch - the food was lovely and fresh. They had a good selection of veggie options. The service was great and Naomi who served us was very chatty and helpful. Would definately go back.

Food was very nice, very good for gluten free and also allergies. Our server Megan was brilliant, very helpful and also welcoming. Highly recommend eating here as great value, great food and also helpful.

Had a nice lunch here with the family. Everyone enjoyed their orders- good size and value. Nice atmosphere probs helped by the good weather. Friendly staff 👍

My food was incredibly late! It took the driver over a hour to collect the food as I spoke to the restaurant (the lady in the restaurant was also confused as to where he was and asked me to mention it to you also) and then he was estimated to arrive at 2.50 lost signal and arrived about 15.15 in the end baring in mind I ordered it at 1.25! The food was completely cold on arrival and completely ruined my lunch with my friend! I expect to be reimbursed as a matter of urgency for this terrible service and cold inedible food please!

I had been here with a very good friend a couple of weeks earlier. So I decided to take my husband for date night. Wasn’t disappointed with a wonderful menu & very attentive staff. Would certainly recommend them. 😍

Steak sandwich and pizza were excellent but sadly ribs were tough and not meaty and risotto very peppery. Staff lovely but did lack awareness of customer needs and drinks very slow.

Went here for some lunch on quite a quiet day and it was lovely. The waitress we had (I can’t remember her name but she had blonde hair, i think) was so helpful and chatty. The service was really good and made us feel very welcome. The food was absolutely amazing, I didn’t know what to expect because my boyfriend recommended it but I was really blown away and we cleared our plates. Very child friendly too, we took our 7 month old daughter and the waitress was very fond of her giving compliments & we also saw other children colouring. Would recommend and will definitely come again when returning to Chelmsford :)

Stopped here for some lunchtime food. Good value lunchtime menu, good service and decent food in a nice atmosphere. Happy to recommend.

Food is fine, but small portions for the pasta and the salads we had. However, very pricey for what they offer. Staff is nice, location is also nice, but would not go back as not really value for money.

Relaxed restaurant with options to sit inside, in the conservatory area at the front or on warmer days outside. Food was delicious, particularly enjoyed the red pepper tapenade with focaccia and the duck main course with new potatoes and mustard jus. Service was prompt, relaxed and friendly.

Mushroom risotto not much mushroom and not very creamy as expected but tasted ok.

The food is average at best. Given that it serves pizza and chicken and is 30 seconds away from both a zizi and a nandos, this place needs to up its game to survive long term.

Wildwood is an upmarket italian inspired restaurant sited next to the river in Chelmsfords shopping area. Very good service. Comfortable restaurant. Wonderfully prepared and presented meals. We enjoyed a mix of salads, pasta and Philly cheese steaks

Great driver, Food was on time, everything was great and hot with steam coming from it but sadly my burger turned up warm and with a soggy bun which was uneaten…

Food was alright for a chain. The guy who served us was really lovely. The heating was not working though so a touch chilly 😂😂

I had family over from Ireland and was keen to take them to Wildwood. We walked in at 7pm and we were told that the restaurant was closing at 8.30pm and we would need to leave before then. We literally hadn't even sat down when the waiter asked what we wanted to drink, they were very obviously rushing us out the door from the minute we got there. I thought it was really rude and I was disappointed.

The pizzas are always great quality and the staff are friendly.

Came here as a table 12 for my grandad’s birthday, the service was outstanding, starters, main & desserts all came out hot & at the same time. Can’t fault a thing about the food or service and even had great menu selection for my sister who couldn’t have gluten! Can’t wait to return

Went for NYE, I had a burger, katie has some pasta. I then had biscoff cheese cake and she had sorbet. Nice and fast service ans wasn't too busy

Oh my goodness where to start. The wildwood Chelmsford branch is an amazing place, the ambience of the restaurant was just right. It's nice to go to a place where you can hear the people around you at the table without being blasted with music. The food was delicious I had mushroom arancini and spag bol both cooked beautifully. Our waitress was Megan and I must say what an asset to your company she is. We were kept topped up with drinks and I didn't have to look around once for her she was there just when I needed. The lady who I think was the manager was also very friendly gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. I totally recommend a visit to this restaurant. Thank you for a lovely evening to the team.

This is not Soho, this it not Mayfair; it’s Chelmsford. The pizzas they serve are what they are, it’s a chain restaurant, I’m not looking for superb cuisine. However, to be charged £6.95 for a own brand larger called “Poretti” and £4.75 for half of the same is absolutely ridiculous. Poretti, more like Poorvalue. Perhaps there was a reason that only 4 other people where dinning there. Sorry guys you have just priced yourselves out of the market!

Asked for no mushrooms or onion in calzone but had mushrooms in which I had to pick out. Other good all very good.

Took well over allocated time as "trying to find a driver but they were busy". When one was found - food was here in 12 minutes but stone cold food. Clearly cooked a long time before the driver got to the restaurant

Staff are very friendly, polite and helpful.

The food was absolutely swimming in oil and I was very unwell when I got home. Not worth the money at all and feel ripped off. I'm only giving this one star because our waitress was very lovely and it's not her fault. Thoroughly regret spending money here. As a side note, the giant glass things with oil and other bits in them look old, and like whatever is in them has become seriously unpleasant. We also noticed the jars of sauce used for decoration had a use-by date of 2016, which was a bit off-putting.

The Burger came out Burnt and was hard the manager the offered me something else and that was not much better this is the 2nd one we have been to and it seems like the chef's aren't qualified in cooking I will never visit one of these poorer Establishments again

I've always been served with good food in the past visits and reviews have always been good so I thought this was a good option with great value for organising my first work Christmas dinner. Well I was so embarrassed and disappointed. The food was served so slowly. Food was cold . Pasta dried out with too much chilli,a simple cookie dough dessert with ice-cream and the cookie dough was burnt and inedible. Simple 4 cheese pizza undercooked so it was so overpowering with blue cheese. Took forever between courses and just overall the worst service ever. I wanted a hole to appear and swallow me up. I've never in my life complained before but I'm just devastated. I probably won't be trusted to arrange another group night out again.

Worse meal I have ever received I wouldn’t even rarer it one star but not a option for half Food cold part of food didn’t come out with meal sent back didn’t even want another one . Service painfully slow . Could honestly say I’d rather of stayed home & had beans on toast , well had to buy food on way home as was starving At least we could laugh about it

Dined as a group of 5 on a very quiet evening (3 tables including ours). Menu looked very promising with a wide selection whilst still not overwhelming. The food arrived within adequate time however had an odd taste to it. Our server wasn’t particularly attentive and whilst collecting payment had a very distinct strong smell of alcohol on his breath.

We have been several times throughout the year and always found the staff very friendly and accommodating especially to any alterations/additions to the menu food ie rocket on the pizza, creating a tapas out of the starters, additional garlic etc. The food is cooked in the fully open view kitchen using fresh ingredients and the cooking fat is never old. Excellent house wines and beer served in ice frosted glasses all add to the pleasure. The surroundings are very pleasant and in the summer the doors are all folded back giving a great view of the river and ideal for “ people watching “ while you eat. Prices are inline with the quality and service, although the service charge is built in your are given the choice to remove it when paying not that you would need to. All in, a great place for casual dining throughout the year.

The food was delicious and still warm, the chorizo and prawns risotto a bit too spicy.

Ordered cobb salad, avacado was missing and there was little chicken, bacon or sweetcorn, loads of lettuce, definately not the 1000 cals it stated, even if the avacado had been present.

This place needs a makeover Some of the big decorative jars of olive oil have mould in them The gents toilet cubicle had no lock and I had to hold it closed with my knee The toilet walls had holes in the and the smell meets you halfway down the stairs Just not good enough for a major chain restraunt

Called in for lunch with work.. lovely menu for lunchtime.. I had garlic bread and a burger. Both very tasty. We had a great time atmosphere was great as were the staff. Highly recommend x

Turned up as a party of 13 at short notice. Seated and served us quickly, efficiently and with friendly staff. The food was really good too.

Returned to this restaurant for first time a about a year.. new staff.. ordered the 10oz steak well done and it was tiny, cremated and fatty.. burger was charcoal as well.. such a shame x

Was shown to our seat, 10 minutes later no drinks order taken. Couple that came in after us served, less than 7 customers no excuse. Now in nandos 👌👍

Used to love the wildwood in Chelmsford but it has really gone down in terms of food and service. They are still charging the same amounts but the quality and taste of the food is not great. It’s changed for the worse. They only have 2 staff members to serve which isn’t their fault and they really try but it seems like it is too much. Not going back
