Lovely bar and staff but the food is really really overpriced for what it is and what you get, we'll go there again to drink but not to eat.

Good selection of beers and ciders - we came for food at lunch time, only 1 other table at the time. We arrive about 11.30, the sign outside said 11.30 for food, but when we tried to order the food wasn't being taken until 12, no issue with this. Order taken, it took over an hour for a pie and a couple of sides to come, we had to remind the server and suddenly the food came, when the pie came 5 minutes later, the peas were dehydrated and hard, and the gravy clearly had boiled over in the microwave. Very disappointed in this. The staff were mainly distracted by phones. This was a Monday lunchtime service. Atmosphere is nice with music in the background. This was on the 17th March.

The front of house staff are really nice and friendly, but the chef should be fired immediately what an utter chancer this guy must be, the food was horrendous and it wasn't even busy in there, how someone can turn a chicken burger and a kids fish goujons into the steaming pile of horse crap that arrived at our table is a new level of low I haven't witnessed in a very long time. Whoever the owner is you should really pay some attention to what's coming out of your kitchen at the Bull because it's pathetic, I wouldn't let your so called chef wash my dishes, he or she should not be anywhere near a business cooking food for public consumption, I can only imagine the filthy kitchen they're working in because they take absolutely no pride or responsibility for the meals that come out of it. I've been a Chef for 36 years and it's easier to cook fresh with a bit of planning than it is to try and sell the insanely poor excuse of a meal that myself and my family received today. I had a full refund for the meals and we will probably never return, which is a shame as we only live down the road

Lovely atmosphere, disappointing lunch service. We went in for a light lunch on a Sunday. The bar staff were friendly, the pub looks great and they were dog friendly which was amazing. However, whilst some of our meals were great (all were from the starter menu, the dirty fries were fab) the fish goujons were very small for £8. Furthermore, one of the three goujons on the plate had no fish in it at all and was just batter. When we told the server she said she can ask the chef but he may be on the next tables meal already. She then never returned, and avoided eye contact on the way out. This was hugely disappointing as even a ‘sorry’ or a nominal refund on the meal would have been more than enough, but we ended up waiting around for someone to let us know and just giving up and leaving. I would go back for drinks as the establishment is great, but this will be the first and last time I order food there.

We drove to the pub one evening before Christmas. Torrential rain, ran into a very busy pub. Managed to get a seat for a pint. Alas, we missed a sign to advise we had to record our vehicle registration number....and have since been hit with a hefty fine 😔. Its a shame the bar staff didn't give this a quick mention, or, have a notice on the actual bar.

Lovely old pub and cosy vibes. But the staff were very grumpy last night. No smiles or warmth. But the food made up for it. To start we had the cod goujons which had the most perfect batter. For mains, the lamb curry and the beetroot wellington. If we were to choose the tastiest dish between this veggie dish and meat dish it would be the veggie beetroot Wellington. It was delicious with the gravy, onion mash and a little mustard. Returned back to the Bull for coffee this morning, for a machine made coffee which was ok. The location and setting is really lush. Will be returning for the Wellington I'm sure.

Was one hen night last night with 3 other ladies. Had been to other pubs in the area but our last stop was here as we were looking forward to the DJ. The pub was rammed full of young people. As a mature lady I was very surprised when a member of security told us that hen parties were not allowed so unless we took off our plastic headbands and the bride to be her sash we would have to leave. We were go smacked as we weren't rowdy at all. If we hadn't already ordered our drinks we would have left there and then. We ordered a taxi and left. What a horrible thing to do. Anyway we found a great pub in Cwmbran with DJ and disco and had a brilliant night! Won't be visiting again!

Bar staff great… a little slow taking our order food atmosphere ok… food very nice but… a little expensive for a Sunday rost… only 1 selection of Vegetables… Broccoli, but no carrot 🥕 or peas 🫛 which I think is a staple in a rost. Sweet & mash was served (which I don’t like), cauliflower cheese was purchased separately. The non plated portions (not meat/ rosters/ parsnips) were small for 3 people for the amount we paid for in my opinion, only seamed enough for 1 person. This was the only letdown in my opinion. Would I go again… ? Would like too but would need to check what was on the plate.

After reading the reviews, I was excited to come here for Sunday lunch. A very busy pub, very clean. We arrived and were seated, we were 10mins late as the postcode on website took us to centre of Newport. Slow in taking our order. Now it’s Sunday roast. You know how many covers you can do, it’s not difficult (I’ve been a publican all my life). They had one additional side you could order - cauliflower cheese. We ordered at 1:45, and they were sold out. Of the only side they do to accompany a roast with over 2 hours and further bookings to come. Now 2:20pm. We ordered garlic bread and our mains at 1:45pm. No food had arrived and no one checked on us. They need our table back at 3:30pm. I called the waiter for an update on our order… only to be told due to an internet issue our order did not make the kitchen. They apologised, and promised discount on desert. Dinners arrived… no garlic bread. Now 3:10pm, they clear our table and the bar lady then makes it clear they have another booking at 3:30pm. No deserts were ordered. And they put live music on in the middle of service. Live music on a Sunday is great for a pub. I do it all the time. Wait until service is finished and the singer is not next to a table eating with family. The food that we did have was ok. The roast potatoes were good as was the Yorkshire pudding. The veg on the other hand, very bland. Which makes the selling out of cauliflower cheese and hour and a half into service more baffling. Great potential here. Service needs massive improvement.

This pub has been updated and is looking very good however lunch was poor for the price. We ordered fish finger butty with salt & finger chips which cost £10 each which we thought rather expensive but thought oh well it must be good for that price. When it arrived we were shocked to say the least it consisted of a mini brioche type roll with two tiny over cooked mini fish fillet and 9 chips stacked with some rocket on the side.We were both very hungry & ate, it the chips were quite nice but I don’t think we will bother eating there for these prices not at lunch time we can honestly say we both felt unsatisfied maybe if it had been a more ample portion and tasty we would of happily paid the price. The staff member was friendly and it was nicely renovated but it is in an area were there are many places with deals on lunches, we ate in the Goldcroft up the road the other week which is also a very nice pub and they do a lunch menu two for £12 and 5 of us eat there one child & the rest from this menu and we all found it very enjoyable and cook perfectly.

I was a bit dubious about booking for our lunch club as The Bull has never really been a foodie destination in the past. Our lunch however was excellent and in really cosy surroundings. I had the chicken liver parfait which was lovely and came with parmesan crisp and plum chutney. Most of us had the creamy chicken with lemon and thyme and a selection of wild mushrooms. It was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. I felt it was good value at £15 for 2 courses so will definately be back soon. The pub has been beautifully restored and has lots of cosy nooks and crannies in which to sit. Parking is charged at 70p an hour but you get the first hour refunded. Parking is always a problem in Caerleon so didn't mind paying to be honest.

All in all a memorable first meal at the Bull,we shall return. The price for three courses a bargain.by the way!

Just had a fantastic meal at The Bull! Welsh Rarebit with Tomato chuckney and the most beautiful risotto!!! Will definitely be back. Two courses for 15 pounds.... Local eateries will have something to live up to!! Highly recommend a try!

Recently refurbished, reasonably priced drinks, good selection, sports shown on the TVs. Cute little beer garden. Friendly staff.

We went to have a drink on a Sunday evening. Very impressed with the improvements made to the Pub, it looks lovely inside and also the Patio area looks good. They now have Real Ale. The duet they had singing were really really good. Its never been my favourite but it is much nicer. Would recommend going for a beer.

Absolutely amazing atmosphere and fabulous refurbishment. The pub is in the middle of the ancient Caerleon village with a ye olde feel. The place has recently been refurbished throughout in a thoughtful way to keep the traditional feeling.

Nice food at great prices but service can be quite slow, had to remove a star arrived there today at 6.50pm kitchen closed ? States online open until 8 pm ,seems to be getting worse every week now one staff member to serve two separate bars and food and kitchen closes at will no notice , removed another star today I purchased a chip shop platter £13.70 for me and a chicken platter for my son £11.70 so with a drink each £32 , my fish was paper thin with loads of batter and cost £5 more for a small fish cake 3 scampi and tiny amount of curry and even though states bread and butter I received none , never again both of us ate again after meal if you want value for money stick to the 2 meals for £13.50 Monday to Thursday as more expensive meals are just not worth it and often missing items listed on menu no reason given. Sorry I believe in honesty turned up today Sunday for dinner with son empty tables everywhere but it was only for bookings for mother's Day? , online says kitchen open 12 till 4 no mention of being turned away hungry if you haven't booked? , I had Sunday dinner there last week no mention of have to book for next week? Are we supposed to be mind-readers to eat at the gaer inn I have to admit I'm psd had to go eat at subway , it makes no sense to turn away regular paying customers in this day and age , next year they be saying they can't afford to stay open 🤔 hello your turning regular paying customers away with loads of empty tables, just makes no sense

Ordered via Just Eat, delivery was over an hour late however when the food eventually arrived no complaints at all - cheese and tomato croissant which was lovely and fresh; a large scone with jam and clotted cream and again so fresh! Excellent food and good value.

Best pub in Newport and one of the best pubs I've been to. A frequent stopping point for many raconteurs, writers, artists, musicians and the likes over the years. Proper pub. Joe strummer used to drink in here so it must be decent

Visited on a quiet wednesday a few weeks back, lots of parking, lots of space for seating. Big selection of food and it came quickly as did the dessert. Staff were lovely would pop over again if I wasn't living 250 miles away.
