Not sure what is happening to this pub, think it maybe closing. On 3 consecutive weeks, I have taken my elderly parents for lunch, or tried, each time, a notice on door, "kitchen closed", the reason we have tried is that we have had splendid lunches before.Last Saturday, arranged to meet friends for a social drink, but the pub was completely closed. A wasted journey and very disappointed.Such a shame as this was a lovely local pub.

Looked forward to a nice Sunday roast after some positive reports regarding the food. I must say we were very underwhelmed, although the portion size was generous the food lacked any flavour and felt like it had been reheated poorly. Certainly will not be visiiting here again as actually felt unwell in the evening.

Haven't been here for such a long time because of Covid-19 so today was the first time in over a year. We couldn't have picked a better evening weather wise as it was warm and sunny with a gentle breeze. In the group there was 3 adults, 3 children and a 17 week old Labrador Pondenco X puppy. Not much to say about the Old White Horse except the food this evening was excellent and the staff are extremely welcoming to everyone including our new dog. The beer garden is big enough for any dog to sniff around (on the lead of course) and it also has fields backing onto it which pretty much means an uninterrupted view of the sun setting. The pub currently has a temporary menu but there was a decent choice and the portion sizes were more than ample and the onion rings were massive. Avril is a lovely lady and always friendly, polite and cheerful to talk to. As were are literally down the road, we will be going back especially as we know they are dog friendly.

Seems to be highly regarded locally so thought we would give it a go. You can sit in 3 areas - one next to the busy road, one next to the tatty trampoline with a view over porta=toilets and one filled with a group of cannabis smoking lads who looked like they have been out grabbing the night before. Much of the garden is strewn with old mattresses and rubbish so not very inviting. The food was ok - nothing special - with some of the vegetables cold,, beef was tough and overcooked, albeit a good, huge yorkshire pudding . At £14-15 a main course didnt feel that it represented good value for money. Highlight has to be the pleasant staff

Seeing as I don’t live too far from this pub, I thought i would check it out... Firstly, the beer garden is very big, but could do with some work (particularly at the back) as some of the benches and trampolines were broken. There’s an area in the beer garden where you can order bbq cooked food which was cool. Extra toilets located outside was handy (especially for those who don’t want to be inside the pub for long). Saved us walking back to the pub every time we needed a toilet. I must say, it was very difficult for them to find us a menu. We weren’t given a menu despite asking the first time and it was only after the second time we asked that they manage to find us one which wasn’t ideal. When receiving our food in the beer garden, we were served our food before we got our gravy (so the waiter had to go back to the pub before we could complete our meal). Due to the distance and time we had to wait for this, some of our food got cold. Overall, prices were standard, decent little location, big beer garden, staff were friendly enough and the food portions were good. Overall not a bad little pub.

Great place for families, I normally go with my parents and my son(7). We spend alot of time in their garden in the summer, the little gut serves bbq food which is great, little one plays on the trampolines and loves it. Staff are great, and very friendly. We have also been for a Sunday lunch, the portions were great. The meat was amazing and the tray of vegetables was very tasty. Cauliflower cheese was spot on! Would 100% reccomend. Can't wait for it to be open again(after covid-19) we will be one of the first at the doors

Called in without a reservation early Sunday afternoon. Despite being clearly busy, Avril accommodated us quickly. Menu was literally Sunday roast but as that’s what we came for, we were satisfied. We both ordered the selection of meat roasts and boy, we were not disappointed. Fab roasties, huge Yorkshire, cauliflower cheese, carrots, cabbage, broccoli parsnips, stuffing, crackling.... and all super tasty. Staff were fab too. I don’t want to highly recommend, as next time it might be too busy for a last minute visit but next time we will be sure to book! Good traditional pub. Nothing processed or fake here! Reasonably priced too. ,

I took my daughter for Sunday lunch (20.08.17) we were running late so we didn't get there till nearly 3 pm. I went for the Lamb roast and my daughter the mixed meat roast. The meat was obviously cooked sometime ago and in fact one of the meats we had trouble deciding what it was as it was so overcooked. The potatoes were part boiled but hardly roasted, and a couple were hard inside. The cabbage was cold and the turnip was soft although it had been roasted well at sometime. The carrots were OK but my daughter didn't receive any. I must say I found the gravy OK although a little greasy. The final insult was getting a pint at the bar, £4.60 for a pint of Stella is OK at a pub restaurant, but when you see the barmaid use a half full glass of lager under the pump with foam marks to the top of the glass pour it into my Stella glass and top it up was just wrong. I did challenge her but she said it had recently been poured? We were so hungry by the time the food came we did eat most of what we could, I did try to talk to the manager but having waited 5 minutes I decided to put it down to a bad choice. It's such a shame as family and friends have said how good it was, but unfortunately my experience was awful.....other than my daughters company : )

All the food was brought up together and the size of the meals was enormous!!! All the food was freshly cooked and of a good quality. I booked this as a place to go with my parents and children on a Friday evening, that was pretty close by. We were greeted by friendly and polite staff, who were particularly lovely to the children. The pub itself is small, cosy, warm and very clean. The food was fantastic and the portions were more than generous (we probably didn't need starters with hindsight). The garlic prawns were delicious, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The main meals were a perfect example of home cooked, British winter comfort meals. The 8oz steak was closer to 12oz, cooked to perfection and accompanied by a mountain of home-made chunky chips, mushrooms, tomato and peas. The steak and ale pudding was "just perfect" and the liver and bacon "delicious". I will definitely be returning!

Myself and my family have eaten here, on a variety of occasions. Weather permitting, the garden area is huge - loads of space to sit. Dogs are welcome. Kids can enjoy playing on the superb array of playground equipment, and ample sized trampolines. The ploughman's is lovely - we usually have the mixed, but it is a good size. One is more than enough for 2 people if you perhaps ordered a side of chips or some extra bread. The Sunday dinner is huge. You can order extra food too, gravy, roasts, Yorkshires, if the meal isn't adequate at no extra cost. There is a good selection of the usual roast meats. The only time I have been disappointed when due to fatty lamb - personal choice though as I hate lamb this way. I have never had a started or dessert, so cannot comment on either of these courses. The service is very friendly. My partner tends to ask for random "off menu" meals, and he is always lucky to be offered exactly what he wants. The environment is old fashioned, a time warp. But it suits the place, food and the customers who frequent the place.

Old white horse is by far the best Sunday lunch I have had in a pub/restaurant no the only place I will go.The staff are so friendly and helpful (I'm so fussy) that nothing is to much trouble. The bar area its self is a little dated and could do with a makeover but it's clean .Well let's get to the most important part The Food..... I have never had a bad Sunday lunch at the white horse Hugh portions of well could fresh (not frozen tasteless veg ang potatoes) with a choice of meat or you can splash out a little bit more cash and have all the meats Beef, pork, lamb and chicken .They don't offer staters but with the size of the dinner you won't need one ( I have never seen such a giantic Yorkshire pudding like they cook ...puts mine to shame). There is a pudding menus but not very large anyone with a sweet tooth would be able to find something to fill the sat tiny bit of roomIt gets very busy if the weathers bad so it's best probably best to book in the warmer weather they have a Hugh garden area great for kids if you don't mind outside dining iGive it a go you won't be disappointed.

Went there for lunch, as it's an old mates favourite watering hole. It's a nice old place, that seems to be stuck in a bit of a time-warp. The vast majority of the clientele were "of a certain age," and seemed to gather in this homely place, like it's some sort of social club. It was actually quite charming. The food is good old British pub grub, served with a smile, and very good value. It would actually make a very good seaside pub. The landlady, and all her staff, which seemed to include the odd friend helping out on an ad hoc basis throughout our time there. If it's a pub lunch you want, you won't be disappointed.

Attended a wake at this pub this week. Shameful behaviour by the bar staff who were actively throwing drinks away when anyone left them unattended on the bar to go for food or toilets. Once this was pointed out to the staff when they were observed doing this they said to each other quote" turn it in now we've been rumbled" to do this to people who have just buried a loved on is nothing short of despicable. This was a blatant ploy to make people buy more drinks. Absolutely disgusted by this.
