Absolutely amazing food and service. Cannot fault the team or the food in any way. We had Beef Brisket - it was tender, succulent and full of flavour; the veg were done to perfection. The service team were perfectly attentive, friendly and helpful, even including a fresh trainee and advising him while we were served we were made to feel special and important among all the other guests. Fantastic experience - have recommended to our friends and would definitely go again!

We booked this venue on the understanding that there would be a cosy atmosphere with a log fire and decorations. However, we were the only people in the restaurant, minimal decorations and no log fire. We chose our food from the Christmas menue, we all had starters which were satisfactory, followed by 2 beef and 2 turkey meals, the roast potatoes had been reheated and were hard, along with watery vegetables and barely warm. We ordered the drinks package of 2 red and 2 white bottles of wine. We ended up with 3 bottles only and the 4th one vanished. Very disappointed with the venue and wont be rushing back in a hurry

Really nice roast, but the restaurant was completely empty when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon. We had a beef and veggie roast, both of which were very tasty. The staff were really nice and the grounds were beautiful. It's just a shame that is was completely empty as the ambience was therefore abit lacking.

Makes Christmas Day special for everyone!! Tables are taken in from the reception area (with canapes and drinks) one by one so there isn't a 'free for all' feel to the event. The food is wonderful, although Christmas 2018 was rather odd as they didn't have any port!!

We went here for a family lunch today and we all had different things from the menu. Unfortunately the roast rump of beef was tough and chewy, the ham was over cooked and didn’t taste very good, but the family member who had the chicken pie was quite tasty. The starters and desserts were however quite tasty and well presented. We have booked a special party for my father in 2 weeks so I’m hoping that the main courses are better then..... The service could have been better, though the young girl tried hard, it was unfortunately lacking efficiency and the male waiter lacked comprehension of our requests. We did point out that the meal wasn’t as good as expected but no effort was made to recompense our disappointment I am sure things could be a lot better with some staff training and a different joint of beef.

I didn't choose per se to dine at the Old Well Restaurant.I was staying at Howefield Manor and after a long day was too tired to find someone to eat. This being part of the hotel was the only real choice. It was a set menu of two courses for one price or three for another. For the main course you had about five options and probably four for desert (I didn't look at the starters as I wasn't interested but think there five of them).I ordered steak medium well and to be fair it was cooked just right. The sauce that came with it though was little more than gravy and the square baked potatoes were hard. Not what you'd expect from a relatively high price.Of course I could have complained but that would have been awkward for two reasons.. 1) I was hungry and tired. I wanted to eat and go to bed. 2) There was only one other couple in the restaurant and therefore I would have been making something of a scene. The chocolate desert, however, was wonderful. All in all I can't say it was bad but I equally can't say it was good especially not for the price.

Tried to call the restaurant to make a booking (as I had spotted it on Open Table and it was near to my business hotel) but was constantly put through to an answering machine. Finally I just made my booking on the OT app and hoped for the best.Arrived at the venue and followed the sign to the restaurant. entered the restaurant but there were no staff and diners (hotel guests) on various tables. We took the awkward walk through the restaurant to try to find a member of staff but to no avail. We decided to take a table and wait. On a few occasions a member of staff rushed out of the kitchen with a plate of food and rushed back but was too flustered to see us. Finally I stopped a member of staff (Eva?) and asked if we could be served. She asked us to wait sa few moments and then she would be back. She was and is a delightful and friendly person. We ordered drinks which were reasonably priced and appeared quickly. While we waited for the drinks the other member of staff asked us again if we would like drinks. We explained that an order had already been taken, however we ordered our food.I ordered the terrine. It was tasteless. I had to season it with what was available on the table to get any flavour at all. MY main course was the salmon and crayfish tail pasta. Similarly unseasoned and bland. We refused deserts and coffee and left the restaurant. If the quality of food was anything like the friendliness of Eva, you would have a good restaurant. That said, with phones not being answered (we were told there was a wake in the afternoon and only 2 members of staff available to do everything so there was nobody to answer the phones?!) and bland food - I will not be returning.Additional note: Ols building or not, you need to do something about the huge spiders on the walls in the dining room (I spotted 2!). Not great for arachnophobics!

There was a slight wait for the ford, but the staff were apologetic and gave us some olives and extra bread rolls whilst we waited. Took about a hour before we got our starter, which was fine for us, as we wasn't starving, but if you're hungry then be prepared :) The wait was worth it though.

Visited for mothers day, Sunday carvery special set menu. Reasonable price for two or three courses (14.95 or 17.95 respectfully). Crab cake starter was nice although maybe a little more sweet chilli sauce required (not too convinced on the chopped pepper and cherry tomatoe garnish?) Choice of meats for main carvery, all the trimmings available, really hot gravy (a thing I always look for) and condiments too. Loved the lemon tart, as a lemon fan this was one of the best I've tried. The setting did feel like we were at a wedding as it's obviously normally geared up for this type of event. Polite staff, all in all reasonable food, reasonable price, you can't go to wrong with a Sunday roast can you?!

Very talented chef (a recent arrival) and I can't imagine that the prices will remain so reasonable for long. We were unhurried and served by very pleasant and knowledgeable staff. The waiter told us which was correct, however after ordering one of the tables next to us had ordered off the other, better menu.Food was ok, although not nearly as nicely presented as shown on the pictures. The restaurant is quite small and waiters sparse, they defiantly need some back ground music to avoid listening to other tables conversations as there was little atmosphere. If I stayed at the hotel again I would eat here, I wouldn't however go out my way for dinner here, saying that three courses for £25 is hard to beat!

We went to the restaurant for a carvery, its a nice small clean dinning area. We went straight in to the mains, the meat is carved for you and you help yourself to potatoes, veg, stuffing etc......I had the beef which was nice and moist cooked just right in my opinion, you get 3 thick slices. The potato's, these I was not impressed with. Looks like they were deep fried, no fluffy inside :(I missed the Yorkshire pudding to, it just didn't look right. My daughter loves her Yorkshire puddings but this one she had one bite and left the rest.Veg was fine, nice florets of broccoli and cauliflower.Gravy was too rich and a little salty for me, also the wife and kids didn't complain.Service, although it was a buffet there was no waiter in sight unless a new customer arrived. I ended up going to fine one to place a drinks order. In general it's not a bad place to eat slightly above average, the potatoes and service would of pushed to 4.Still on the hunt for the perfect carvery............

We were not rushed and it was a case of when it is gone it is gone, so no food was kept heated up for a long time. Hence the need to book! The customers were of all age groups. After reading the Sunday lunch menu on the website and the advice that booking was necessary we decided to take friends the following day. On arrival there was only one couple in the restaurant and we had to seek out a member of staff. The waiter was helpful but didn't appear to know a lot.... on being asked if you stocked real ale he said he wasn't sure he thought they had forgotten to order it this week. The main course was well cooked, a few more vegetables would have been nice. There were only three choices for dessert and considering the restaurant was practically empty, we were told there was only enough gooey chocolate cake for one and enough apple pie for two! When they came the custard had a skin already formed on the top. The waiter presented us with the bill that was incorrect, before asking, as he had finished his shift. If you are offering a service you should at least be able to fulfil the choices on offer. Had you been very busy I could understand running out of food. Unfortunately, despite a beautiful setting and a quant building I would not recommend this restaurant.

All served with beautifully roasted potatoes, lots of vegetables and gravy that I will spend the rest of my life trying to emulate! Thank you Radu :-)The dessert menu was very limited, Banoffee, fruit salad, Sticky toffee pudding, rosewater and lychee ice cream or Cheese board.. The puddings we did order were very good however, it would have been nice if the fruit salad was served with a side of cream and maybe a couple of extra crackers with the cheeseboard. It would have been nice to see traditional puddings such as apple pie, or crumble or even a little pavlova...Overall, the roast dinner was very nice, good quality home cooked tasting food and very reasonably priced. The Easter sweet basket was a nice touch.Thank you, will visit again :-)

Truly awful experience the food was appalling. Mushroom and goats cheese starter with NO goats cheese, but brown edged lettuce. Over cooked main courses, the sea bass had to be returned. As the service was so bad the diner had to get up and find someone. All the staff were hiding in the kitchen and not checking if everything was OK. Chicken kiev so over cooked inedible!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME IN THIS PLACE

Went there for dinner on a Saturday - the restaurant was reasonably busy so atmosphere was good and lively. Started off all well with attentive service, little canapes provided before the starters, which we were not expecting. The starters were good, my husband had scallops and I had soup. For mains we has steak which was cooked as requested - very good. I ordered fish and honestly can say, that I would be embarrassed to serve it at home like that. It was dry (not sure how you can make fish so dry!), had some bones (can accept that) and was totally not seasoned - yuk. I had to put salt and pepper to give it some flavour, but it was so dry it did not make nuch difference. Dessert OK but served with cheap icecream. Mixed feelings.

On arriving we were made to feel very welcomed by the predominately French staff, which made the restaurant feel very upmarket and cosmopolitan. The decor was very posh but cosy, and due to the time of year it wasn't very busy so we had a choice of sitting we're we liked. The starters of scallops was amazing, hot and beautifully cooked with a rice & spinach side that was to die for. I ordered the steak and my girlfriend had the salmon both excellent dishes that I wouldn't hesitate to return for. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to friends and family as a true foodies haunt.

I have to say that the staff were fantastic. It's a shame that all of their efforts are thoroughly undermined by the poor food.Once I had scraped the skin from the top of the soup, I was left not with carrot and coriander soup (as promised) but with a terribly bland and tepid bowl of orange purée. I could have coped with the starter if the warm bread accompaniment materialised - sadly not.The pork was dry and tasteless. The rib eye steak, to be fair, was alright - shame that the kitchen left a ring of cling film in the garlic butter. The vegetables were unimaginative, either uncooked or prepared by a blind chef with a machete.Ultimately the only items which were of any note were those ready prepared by outside caterers (smoked duck or the honeycomb ice-cream).A restaurant which promises much, but delivers little.

We are always wary of reviewing restaurants on cold wintery nights, but considering the excellent reviews were a little underwhelmed.Staters were fine but the main courses were rather bland and my pork tenderloin a bit overcooked and consequently chewy. For the style of restaurant the large paris goblets were not up to expectation for a decent bottle of wine and half decent ones are not that expensive from many outlets (I don't mind the paris goblet with a pichet of table wine in our local bistrot!).Another glass issue was the lack of a suitable glass for serving a pastis (Ricard). In fairness to our waiter Edouard he obviously hadn't served it before but was very keen to learn the proper way. Glass large enough to add 3/4 parts of water and a small jug of iced water to dilute to taste. If we come back to stay we will certainly give it another try and hope Edouard is stll around as he is very keen and helpfull.

We went to the restaurant for the second time last night since it changed hands. The service was very good, with attentive waiters who were very helpful. We both had the duck carpaccio to start, which was very good. We also both had the rib eye steak as a main course. Both our steaks were rather tough and chewy, which was rather disappointing. The wine was excellent, but we have had the same wine in another restaurant and paid less for it. Overall, the prices are very reasonable and we would have been prepared to pay a bit more in order to have had a really good steak.

First night of our honeymoon break, mne and my husband dined here. We shared lovely bread and olive appetisers, followed by our mains of steak(which was cooked to perfection) and a chicken dish. The mash potato was best ive tasted! So buttery! The wine list was excellent and we had a beautiful bottle of Rose. Desserts we shared a dessert platter! Yum! The creme brulees were out of this world! By far my favourite! As a price guide it cost us £75 for 2 people.

After finding this venue on a search engine I took the plunge and booked for six of us, after reading some very good reviews. My call was answered by a charming and efficient young lady who took my booking and almost by return e-mailed me the confirmation. We were however a little disappointed on arrival to find our venue on top of a largish industrial estate. How short sighted of the local council to allow such developments in a lovely rural setting. However once we turned into the gardens we could have been in the middle of nowhere so it did not spoil our enjoyment one bit. The food and service were excellent, with some of the best value for money dining that we have experienced. A really varied menu with something for everyone. Well done 1181, we will be back soon. The only negative was the constant taped French music that played in the background. Not everyones cup of tea!

2nd trip and better than the first. We went for a late Motherss' Day lunch today. The four of us ordered different starters and mains and none of us could agree who had chosen best. My son who knows his stuff told us his steak was the best he had ever had. Lots of nice touches too - ameuse gueles, presentation and friendly service among others. My new favourite local!

The menu was different from the average restaurant a mixture of English and French. The food was lovely with a set price of £25 for all 3 courses fantastic. But the best thing was the lovely staff so freiendly and helpful. we actually stayed here for two nights as it was so nice, the grounds are lovely we had a nice walk around them even though there was snow on the ground. We had a great time Thanks

Very cold restaurant, suspiciously fast service, bland food and too much olive oil. The chef may be French, but nationality alone does not guarantee good cuisine.

Found this restuarantt on Tripadvisor and decided to give it a go, I had the transparent ravioli of crayfish, my wife had the smoked duch carpaccio (smoked on the premises) both were great, my main was the venison steak cooked to perfection, my other half the partirdge, again excellent. We were tempted with one of the dishes to share but couldn't decide on which one, so we compromised and had the dessert platter to share, the creme brulee trio was superb.Well worth a visit.

We enjoyed a beautifully prepared meal, the staff were wonderful and the atmosphere was lovely. It was the beginning our our honeymoon and what a truly lovely way to start! I would definitely recommend this hotel and restuarant, good value for money and a very comfortable place to stay, brimming with character. We will definitely be returning for our first anniversary!

Cafe offering reasonable priced food. Friendly staff. Appears to be popular with local Herne Bay residents. We visit Herme Bay on a regular basis and usually pop in here for brunch / lunch.

Since Adrian retired and Andy and Clive left, the cafe (and showroom), have gone seriously downhill, £2 for a cup of Nescafe!!! only one or two customers, there is no atmosphere, or banter in the cafe
