The Old Brewery Tavern in Canterbury

10/10 experience every time i visit, the food is so beautiful, the drinks are perfection and the service is just flawless. We come so often that the staff know our drinks when we arrive, we just love it here so much! A must-visit in Canterbury!!

My wife and I dropped in here on our first night in Canterbury and were not disappointed. We received a warm welcome on arrival and there was a great selection of beers on offer (I went for the taster tray which turned out to be a great call). Food-wise we both had the Foundry Burger which was delicious. Super service, great food and excellent beers. What’s not to like?

Great food, great beer, great whisky, great service and bloody good prices. Can't wait to visit again.

Service was very good, both had Hunters Chicken, it was dry, and the bacon was burnt, the cheese had done a disappearing act and what little sauce we did have was watery, we didn't like it. However, the chips were piping hot and the side salad was pleasent, garlic bread was good to. We thought the Foundry lacked atmosphere and is a boring place to dine, in our opinion. I had the orange Gin and tonic and it was lovely

When you arrive, you are very well received. The pub has two rooms, the downstairs is larger but a bit noisy if there are people. The menu is varied and a good number of drinks are produced on site (alcohols and beers). We had dishes to share and we ate well. The setting is neat

Good range of drinks. Very very very dog friendly… didn’t particularly enjoy constant loud barking and strangers dogs brushing around my legs. However, this is at no fault of the staff/service. Venue itself has lovely decor. Something to consider if you’re not a pet owner/ don’t like loud constant barking. Edit to reply to the response from the owner: I was sat under the open entrance under the shelter which is shown in the photos uploaded by yourselves. There were multiple dogs there. So I would say you do allow dogs on your premises. Your staff members also commented and interacted with the dogs, you are claiming are not allowed in. It is disingenuous to disregard my review as a ‘mistake’ as it may be helpful with those with pet allergies.

Meet with some friends and had dinner here, fantastic end to a lovely day out in Canterbury. Very nice interior!

What an absolute gem! Great building. Superb beer. Delicious, proper home cooked food; the burger was lovely and the batter on the fish, heavenly. Utterly delightful staff. Amazing local whiskies. What a find. We'll definitely be back to Canterbury just to visit again. Well done and wishing you continued and well deserved success.

Had a really nice Sunday roast, which included a really good gluten free option including Gf Yorkshire pudding. The 1/3 pint sampling tray of 5 drinks was also good, allowed you to sample several different beers!

I was almost put off by the fact that you needed to wait to be seated, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. The staff were helpful and informative and they had a large array of beers, including their own. I had one of the lagers and it was excellent. The prices were fairly reasonable too, all considered.

The atmosphere, service, and food are excellent, and the beef Guinness pie is the best I’ve ever had.

Nice pub with its own distillery and beer brewery. We had a delicious meal here and the service was great. Try a tasting of 5 beers from the menu or a tasting of 3 or 5 spirits.

Hidden place a few meters from St Peter street. Super friendly, authentic, the cuisine is very good, generous, the service great, smiling and friendly. They make their own beer and put their heart into offering selected products. A great discovery that we recommend. Take the tasting board of 5 of their beers!

Because all tables were reserved, it was unfortunately not possible to eat here. But we were still warmly welcomed for a drink. Even got a short tour. Sufficient choice of brewed beer. But....I can recommend the Clock Face Whiskey! I can recommend a visit to every beer/whiskey lover!

The Foundry Brewpub is a good option for a Saturday afternoon. Perfectly acceptable, really. The food? Decent enough and good value for what you get. But here’s the thing—it just felt like it was missing that little spark. You know, the vibe that makes you want to settle in for a few hours and soak it all up. The atmosphere was a bit flat for my taste, but maybe I caught it on an off day. It’s certainly not unpleasant, just not exactly brimming with character. However, there’s one thing that will definitely leave an impression—the toilets. Oh yes, the mysterious “combo trap.” I won’t spoil it for you, but let’s just say navigating the facilities here is an experience in itself.

Had our works Christmas meal, and everything from start to finish was fantastic. They were so accommodating to changes, fussy eaters, nothing was too much trouble. The service on the day was great, didn't feel rushed or left thinking "when is the next course coming?" (which we experienced last year somewhere different). They even moved our table for dessert as another larger table were having noisy fun and we couldn't hear each other! The food was delicious and all importantly hot! Will definitely return to enjoy some of their ales soon! Thank you to The Foundry for their hospitality

Great place to eat. I come there every time I go to Canterbury and I'm never disappointed, the welcome, the service, the location, the cuisine, but also the price everything is very good. You have nothing to envy of certain restaurants on the outskirts of the city, which call themselves gastronomic, your cuisine is much better. Congratulations to the chef. Don't hesitate to stop by, you won't be disappointed

We held our CCCU 25 year reunion here. Taking the orders the day before was the BEST option, meaning the whole evening was a proper chance to reminisce and enjoy being back in Canterbury. The food, the beers and the hospitality were all second to none, and everyone loved the experience. Thank you for looking after us all so well... We'll book now for our 50th anniversary!

Lovely place with a nice array of beers and ciders. You can choose a taster of 5 different beers (5 one third pints) for £11.95 which is a great way to try what's on offer without drinking a large amount. It was a cool day outside and not very warm in the pub, it would have been more comfortable had they had some decent heating on! Aside from that very nice brewpub.

This location is somewhat hidden in a side street. There are not only everyday beers here, but also beers from small breweries in the area. We ourselves also ordered a tasting board with 5 or 6 different varieties. The food is very tasty and the service, like almost everywhere in Canterbury, is very friendly.

I recommend the taster tray to sample five thirds of different beers (assuming you can't cope with five pints!). It's the best way of trying their wide range.

The burgers and braised beef wraps here are exquisite! My fiancée and I love stopping off here for a meal and class A ales. Delicious and well worth the visit. Staff are super friendly. The Foundry Canterbury is superb!

A place to suit all palates for food and drink. We chose to visit based on reviews and it did not disappoint. Went for a drink in the afternoon and before leaving booked a table early evening. Food is superb. I can recommend The Foundry Burger, Texas Brisket with mash and veg and Cajun Chicken burger.

The Foudry Pub is a real gem of a pub. The food is great and almost as good as the beers but it's the staff and their passion that makes it amazing. If I could give 6 stars, this would be the only place I've been to that genuinely deserves it.

Amazing gins! I love the Orange and saffron gin! The mushroom on toast, cod fish cake and cheese board were delicious. I am coming back!

An absolute gem of a place for a cracking pint. Some of the best ales to be had here. Only stopped for a wrap and few beers. The gins are also great. Recommend.

Absolutely fantastic place. Beer is wonderful and the food is delightful and some fantastic staff.

A very nice bar and restaurant setting with tasty beers on tap. We also ate here, the food was very good and ample portions. The brisket was especially delicious! An area for improvement would be that we were somewhat in a walking route for staff, but that did not spoil the fun.

Had the brewery tour with Jon. Beers and spirits production etc discussed at length with samples. BRILLIANT. Fantastic and so informative. Then had beers in the restaurant and food - all amazing. A MUST DO !!!!

Great place to grab a verity of pints and brews.

My wife, kids, and I stayed in UK for an entire week for vacation and spent all of our time in London, Brighton, and Canterbury and this was the best meal by far that we had during our time in the UK. Their spirits and beers are brewed and distilled in-house and are all delicious! I highly recommend getting a flight of the infused gins and try a few half pints of their beers. It's all delicious. I personally had the Cajun chicken burger. 10/10 would definitely eat here again given the chance.

Super friendly staff and incredible food. The pie was delicious and SO big, such nice portions and reasonably priced. Great selection of drinks, highly recommended.

Great place for a pub lunch when in Canterbury. Plenty of space for families. Food was delicious and service was excellent and friendly. There is a large selection of beers brewed on the premises which are worth a try. The Canterbury Pale Ale was particularly good. Recommend a visit

Great Sunday roast, friendly service and a beer tasting of 5 beers is always a good idea

Wanted to like this place. A friendly bar supervisor. The South Island lager was so hoppy as to be an IPA...not for me. The Canterbury premium... No bite...not for me. I had been so looking forward to trying this place. 20% off the 2 drinks above that I didn't drink. A good Hendricks and Fevertree. A real shame.

Pub in Canterbury, not far from the Cathedral. Not to be missed as it is a microbrewery with a wide variety of beers on the menu! Good choice of food.

Enjoy the local beer a lot. The whiskey tastes young but the aroma is beautiful. Japanese Jin is another must try

Very nice brewery/pub. Friendly service! They looked well after us. Food was good, pubfood, not perfect. I bet the brisket hadn’t been smoked for 8 hours. It was tasty though. The beer tasting menu was very nice. Maybe better not served all at once.

A lovely place with lovely staff BUT and that’s a BIG BUT, they have a no dog law!! Our dog was devastated, utterly inconsolable.

Excellent brewpub with a large selection of beers, four on cask the remaining 11 on keg. Great atmosphere and great beer. They also have a large selection of spirits distilled on site. I had the tasting paddle of 5 different beers in one third measures then tried 25ml of their single malt whisky. The Foundry black was my favourite beer and the whisky was delicious. I didn't eat here but the food served at the table next to me looked and smelt good. The staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient at their job. I'm very tempted to book myself on a tour next time I come to Canterbury.

This was a cool place to hang out. Beer was on point. On the must revisit next time in Canterbury.

Had a reunion here today, spent a good amount of time in here, food, drinkies nothing was too much trouble.

Lovely place to have some drinks and food. The staff is really helpful and kind, we spend 2 nights in a row there. They make an awesome craft beer, i Will definetly come back when I can.

Delicious food with many beer options brewed onsite. Off the beaten path and not your usual Canterbury 'pubby" feel. But, a nice respite from the crowds — worth the 2 block walk off the main drag for reliably good food and nice beers. Reasonably priced. Vegan options.

What an incredible place! We loved our brewery and distillery tour and tasting, John was exceptional - so passionate and knowledgeable and tasting the products (gin and beer) you can tell why they've won so many awards. Highly recommend, absolutely brilliant.

Their beers are low gluten content!!! I braved to try them and have no complaints whatsoever. I also had their burger with a gluten-free bun, and it was quite nice. The patty was huge, too! My friend had Fish and Chips, and she loved it!

Was really looking forward to Sunday lunch here, which I booked in advance. Only to discover they had sold out of both lamb & beef by 1pm. The food we did get from took an hour to arrive - and wasn’t great. The staff kept telling us how busy they were… which was strange, given the restaurant was only half full. All in all - really disappointing. It’s a place that seems to struggle with organising themselves to serve their customers.

Very nice beer and good solid egg, ham and chips that filled a post Wye to Canterbury walk. Service was good and the beer was very much welcome. Will be back for the Nitro.

Staying in Canterbury and found this great place, been two consecutive nights, had beer and fries first time, when back second night and had great steak and ale pie. Beer is excellent, covers most tastes, food great, staff absolutely brilliant. Well recommend a visit. They also do local gins and spirits

Wide and excellent choice of beers made on the premises, served up by the best crew in town. Food is delicious and filling. Lovely location in an old foundry and the heritage is reflected in the pictures on the wall. Always a top night out for locals and a Canterbury must do for visitors. 10/10.

Really great place for beer tasting in Canterbury, would definitely recommend. The food, however, is was not that great- we had the chicken wings and they were very average. The sweet potato fries were good. Also would recommend booking a table first as we could not find a place!

Amazing food, service and drinks. This is an incredible brewpub and we can’t wait to go back. Restaurant acoustics were a bit harsh if you’re expecting a quiet dinner but it is a pub to be fair.

Want to go to a great brew pub and distillery? Look no further than the Foundry. We regularly travel from near Maidstone to frequent this great establishment. Great range of beers from fruit beers to green hop when the season is right. Also have their own range of English whisky and gin which are second to none, Japanese gin needs a special mention. Jon and Jodie run an awesome team of happy, knowledgeable and friendly staff. On our most recent visit we had a meal in the restaurant as well as some drinks and the food did not disappoint. Big portions of lovingly cooked food (the brewpub platter was the definition of BIG!), credit to the kitchen team. Great atmosphere on a Saturday and will be back again soon! Keep it up guys!

We had a meal in the 40th as a large party of 12 including children and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious, particularly the pie and the brisket. The service was prompt, friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great. A few of our group enjoyed the beer tasting planks. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and will hopefully be back soon.

All the drinks are brewed on site, and they have a wonderful old english style brown ale drink sometimes available, I definitely would highly recommend it for a small party. I would not recommend for larger parties as the staff will be quite "a little funny" to customers they do not like "the smell of" but other than that this is definitely a place to get a lovely old fashioned locally brewed english drink! I'll drink to that! Cheers!

Really great experience - found this by chance looking at somewhere affordable to eat in Canterbury. Atmosphere was lovely - really nicely decorated - not too loud so could have a conversation Staff were so lovely :) And the food was AMAZING! They had so many options to suit a range of tastes, and it was cooked perfectly! It was so nice actually, that as soon as we got home my dad was making plans to return. The cost of the food wasnt bad but totally reflected the quality of the food. Couldn't fault any part of this experience.

Very good location in the Canterbury’s old city centre - a plus, a bit off the crowded main high street. Spacious, lots of choices in terms of beer and food (kind of a pub style). Beers styles approach is a balance between the traditional way and the more modern way of brewing. Brewery visits are possible on an appointment basis. They also have a distillery, but I haven’t tried their products. Definitely, a place to visit if in Canterbury.

I booked a large table here a few weeks ago for Sunday just gone for a family dinner, pre Panto. We had never been to The Foundry before, being so close to Christmas I didn’t know if they would be able to accommodate us. It’s a family tradition to come to Canterbury each year some of us travelling from Suffolk and we have previously eaten at another local pub. After last year we decided to look for an alternative eatery as they had been less than accommodating. I must say our whole party of 14 were extremely happy with the choice…. Absolutely everything was lovely, the food, the drinks, where we were sat and especially the service and communication from Flo the manager. She had taken the liberty to email me the day before for a preorder so they were prepared for us and didn’t keep us waiting longer than necessary at a busy time. Not only was our order taken but without asking Flo had split the bills into families for us so that made our lives easier at the end of the meal. This was clearly the work of someone who is very well accustomed to large parties and dealing with keeping her customers happy. The Beers and Ciders went down a treat and the food was delicious and well priced. I told Flo at the time, but we will be returning to The Foundry next year and it’s now our new pre panto place 👌🏼😀 Thanks for making our afternoon so enjoyable!

Shown to table, waitress said she’d be back shortly to take our order and then never returned. Waited 15 minutes and then left.

Local family runned business. My boyfriend said they have one of the best sour beer he ever tried. And price is very friendly. There are so many different types of beer they brewed themselves. And they do their home made rum also. We will definately coming back.

A cool place and bound to be popular with students (if they can afford it). Very slightly off the beaten track but plenty of signage to help you find it. The beer I tried (their saison) was very nice but a tad on the cool side. My main gripe though was that you have to be shown to a table. I like to walk into a pub, go to the bar, get a drink and find a table or just stand up. This all seemed a bit "continental" but continental brought on by a pandemic. Didn't have a meal. The service was very good; all very young. Second visit: much the same. I still don't much like having to be shown to a table and given table service in a pub. Friendly, helpful staff, pricey.

I had the Foundry Burger which was delicious and obviously made with a good quality beef mince. This was followed by the Biscoff Cheesecake which was lovely. The Foundry is the ideal place to come for atmosphere and if you are hungry as the portions are large!

We came to Canterbury with a family member that lives nearby and were looking for a place to eat after walking we found the Foundry where we saw the menu and instantly agreed I had a the foundry burger and chips it was fantastic. For dessert I picked the best chocolate brownie with ice cream and it was amazing. Our experience was made better with our waitress who I unfortunately forgot their name she had blonde hair and glasses and was really upbeat. Thank you for a great meal

Seasoned food and decent service

A quiet time of day when we arrived, just after noon, however most tables were occupied (in the main bar) by the time we left. A beer flight of 5xthird pints, is a good option, if you want a variety of tastes. You choose the beers from their own brews, which are brewed on site. Good selection of alcohol free and low alcohol drinks are available. Food was really tasty and relativity in expensive.

The fish and chips and coleslaw were absolutely amazing! Highly recommended
